Lysistrata is an ancient Greek comedy by Aristophanes, originally performed in classical Athens in 411 BC. It is a comic account of a woman's extraordinary mission to end the Peloponnesian War between Greek city states by denying all the men of the land any sex.
In 1989, the famous actor and poet Leonid Alekseyevich Filatov wrote his poetic version of "Lysistrata". Unfortunately, it is less known than the satirical tale "About Fedot the Archer", written and performed by Filatov from the stage, but nevertheless, the problems raised in the plot of "Lysistrata" are no less (or even more!) topical. Alas, I did not find the English version of the poem "Lysistrata", but if you have the opportunity to read the original source through an electronic translator, then I highly recommend that you do this.

At the age of fifteen, with newspaper opinions
And friends' opinions having blown their windy way through me, I thought, "If it turns out I'm not a genius -- I will die that same instant, of horror!..."
Sitting down at the writing desk, I felt in myself A hallowed reckless bravery, And I smeared ink upon the paper, As if I were subduing the paper in a fight!
When the clock of my fate struck thirty seven, And the thirty eight glimmered in the distance, without fame, It seemed to me -- that the tragic autumn Was casting a shadow upon my brow.
But, as if it were a summons to appear in court, or in a Social Security office, A yellow autumn leaf pressed itself to my window, And I read in that blank form: "You're not a genius!" A short message from the heavens.
I glanced out the window -- because surely it couldn't be, That in this hour, in this moment of my departure, The weather wouldn't get any worse, And the view would not restructure itself in any way!
All has been as before. A puddle at the entrance. The accustomed shape of the dumpster. And at the fence, a dog was peeing With a timid smile on her face.
The pigeon I've known, self-important and prissy, Stupidly stared into my window from the outside, as it usually did, And life did not cease to be desirable Because of my frightening epiphany...

Leonid Filatov and Alexandra Yakovleva at the shooting stage of the Air Crew movie (1979). The photographer is unknown to me, but I can guess it could be Valery Shuvalov, Director of Photography of the film. They say, this is the first nude scene in the Soviet cinema. Another one is in Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears also shot in 1979.

“Why Swan Lake? It may seem like a random artistic choice, but to anyone who lived in the former USSR, it made perfect sense. For many Russians, the opening strains of Tchaikovsky’s score are as likely to remind them of political upheaval as they are the beauty of classical ballet. When Leonid Brezhnev died in 1982, after nearly two decades in power, state-controlled television stations cut into programming not with news of his death or an announcement of who would next lead the country, but with broadcasts of Swan Lake “in its full-length, four-act, three hour expanse,” writes Stanford dance historian Janice Ross in her new book , Like a Bomb Going Off: Leonid Yakobson and Ballet as Resistance in Soviet Russia. The broadcasts were a stalling tactic, meant to block access to the news while the Soviet leadership settled on a succession plan. The same happened following the deaths of Yuri Andropov and Konstantin Chernenko. Swan Lake was so often the backdrop for Soviet political upheaval that seeing it on television became a tip-off that all was not well in Moscow. In August 1991, Ross writes, when a group of communist hard-liners attempted to overthrow Mikhail Gorbachev’s government, television programs again were interrupted; for days, the only thing on state TV was a continuous loop of Swan Lake. Sergei Filatov, a member of the Russian legislature, was on vacation at the time. “I turned on the TV and saw the swans dancing,” Filatov told the Moscow Times. “For five minutes, ten, for an hour. Then I realized that something had happened.” He immediately got on a flight to Moscow, where he played an important role defending the city against the attempted takeover. (One of the leaders of the coup, Vasily Starodubtsev, later admitted that the broadcast was a strategic error.)”

The best books by Leonid Filatov
Actor, writer, scriptwriter, director - Leonid Filatov was talented in everything. Every picture in his filmography evokes a range of feelings and emotions. His characters - scoundrels, heroes, philosophers, even sex symbols - turned out to be atypical, mesmerizing just these negative or positive features, or more precisely - a combination of both the first and the second.
"About the Sagittarius Theodota, good for you"
The good thing about this humorous fairy tale is that it will be interesting for readers of any age. At first you only see it as a humorous mood, laughing at jokes that gradually take on a different form. The more mature you become, the deeper the content of the fairy tale is revealed. You begin to pay attention to the fact that in these jokes there is a clear parallel with reality, allusions to certain events academized and facts. And at some point it becomes not just a joke, but comes the realization that the fairy tale has notes of sarcasm and ridicule.
This is a vivid parody of modern reality, which is not immediately revealed. Each time Leonid Filatov's work opens in a new way, never ceasing to please the readers. Each time you see something different, never ceasing to smile and think about the mysterious and ambiguous Russian soul.
"Dilizhanse"
A sentimental farce based on Guy de Maupassant's famous novel "The Dust". In one stagecoach are "decent" gentlemen and fallen woman, and then the full expression of hypocrisy, pettiness and cowardice of people who inherited the right to be elected. Under Leonid Filatov's masterpiece, the work flirted in a new, lively, sharp and modern way, and in the performance of Vladimir Kachan sounds stunning!
"A troublemaker of calm."
To thin, ironic feather of Leonid Filatov any literary genres are subject: rigid prose and a farce, sparkling parodies and bright bubonic fairy tales. This book presents to the reader Filatov playwright.
"Outrage of Calm" is an adventurous comedy in two parts based on the novel of the same name by Leonid Soloviev about the adventures of honourable Khodja Nasreddin during his stay in the noble Bukhara.
"Freedom or Death"
To thin, ironic feather of Leonid Filatov any literary genres are subject: rigid prose and a farce, sparkling parodies and bright bubonic fairy tales.
His story "Freedom or Death" tells the story of the fate of the Soviet intellectual Tolik Paramonov, who went to the West, which is almost a symbol of the generation of "Semestocents". The author sensitively caught the paradoxical behavior characteristic of our emigrants: desperate fighters against the Brezhnev regime in their homeland, abroad they suddenly became zealous defenders of communist ideals ...
