Simon wanted to start working out. He was tired of being the tall, skinny kid, so he decided to be the tall and buff kid. Which is why he asked to start going to the gym with Nik. Nik of course agreed for two reasons: He wanted to spend some one-on-one time with Simon and he wanted to make sure he didn’t hurt himself while trying to work out.

But Simon ended up telling Alejandro about going to the gym, and the teen immediately wanted to join. So now Nik has to go talk to Alejandro’s dad and make sure the man was okay with Nik chaperoning his kid to the local gym.

“Do you know what you’re doing?” The man had asked, glaring into Nik’s soul when he did. Nik had to admit the man was intimidating, he could see the scars hidden amongst his tattooed forearms, there was a story there.

“I know how to train at the gym.”

“But do you know how to show novices how to? They’re young, they could hurt themselves.”

Protective, that’s one word that screams Leonardo Vargas. Nik could tell the man cared about his son, he cared about his health. That care naturally extended to Simon who he has had stay at his home on multiple occasions. Nik appreciated his care.

“I know how to-“

“No, I’m coming with you.”

“What?”

Leo said nothing else and went inside his home. Alejandro looked embarrassed and Simon was snickering. Nik just stood there in confused silence, looking at the two teens for some kind of insight on what just happened. Not even five minutes would pass before Leo would return. So now their trip to the gym went from a party of two to four.

And Nik, while trying to guide Simon and Alejandro how to stretch, Leo would nag at his form. It felt like he was the one being shown how to train safely.

Il totale è 37 come nel 2023, le pagine sono aumentate, e per il secondo anno consecutivo supero il mio obiettivo personale delle 10 mila, sono arrivato a 11 750. Ho letto anche più di un classico per trimestre, tra cui anche dei saggi, e l'anno prossimo l'obiettivo è leggere un libro di un autore dell'età classica a trimestre.

Sulla qualità dei titoli, ammetto che dopo anni di ricerca e di perfezionamento delle fonti ne sbaglio pochissimi: alcuni rimarranno nel tempo, come L'Insaziabile, l'ultimo di Erpeneck (vincitrice dell'International Booker Price del 2024, un libro drammaticamente potentissimo), Lennon, Marty, Thirlwell. Libri del tutto particolari, tra l'autobiografia, il racconto e il saggio sono quello di Montero e Giartosio. Se devo notare una differenza, ho letto meno autori e autrici italiane, e una cosa che dovrei iniziare a fare è rileggere dei volumi di qualche anno fa, tipo una decina, e scoprire l'effetto che fa.

PERSONALITY

Noemi is a relaxed yet dutiful woman. She is a skilled marksman, spy, and tactician during her years in the military. Outside from work, Noemi can be seen as a laid-back person who is likely to spend time with her family and friends. Unlike her aunt Estrellita, she doesn't get easily irritated unless if she is in a bad situation that needs to have a solution ASAP. She tends to get a bit stressed when the problem escalates worse than before but she is not the type of person to give up that easily. Despite her relaxed persona, she was considered as brutal when it comes to taking down her enemies in cold blood with a single and precise kill with her chosen weapon but she won't let her emotions get the best of her judgment.

BIOGRAPHY

Born and raised in a military family, Noemi dreams to be a soldier just like her father, but it's not just about getting into the ranks and being recognized by everyone for being part of the military. At a young age, Noemi was one of the smartest students on her school despite being called to the guidance office from getting into trouble with her bullies. Her father, Ramon, was her inspiration to be a soldier. But her father didn't want her to pursue that dream, instead he wants her to be a nurse. Both her parents disagreed with Noemi becoming a soldier, even her own aunt Estrellita didn't liked the idea of her being sent to the battlefield as they feared that she will end up dead or get PTSD just like her two uncles from her father's side who tends to experience PTSD and are undergoing therapy sessions. Noemi disregarded these and continued her studies until she finished high school and proceeds to enter a military academy. At first she struggles the harsh treatment from her seniors as secretly gets beaten up away from prying eyes and yet, she persevered until she reaches the finish line. Graduation.

After graduating from the military academy, she joins the Armed Forces of the Philippines for a year before joining the Philippine Scout Rangers. During the 6-month rigorous training, Noemi struggled from the first 3 months of her training but she continues to strive hard until she finishes the training, receiving the Philippine Scout Ranger Qualification Badge. In 2013, she was sent to Zamboanga to deal with the Moro rebels with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant together with her fellow soldiers during the crisis. Through out the twenty days of combat, Noemi was finally enlightened and realized why her family didn't want her to be a soldier like her father. The gruesome scenes of seeing her allies KIA or wounded was etched onto her memory. Around 2015, she met Captain Arnulfo Gadaza from the Philippine Light Reaction Regiment as he suggested her to join the LRR. Curious, she joins the LRR and was trained by American soldiers as their trainers. Both Arnul and Noemi formed a bond together inside the camp as they mostly spend time with each other by walking around the area, talking with one another. Everything changed when she and Arnul got in a situation with the terrorists during the Battle of Marawi in 2016 to 2017. Arnul was shot on the neck by a sniper, causing Noemi to panick and drag his body somewhere safe.

Devastated and angered from the loss of her friend and mentor, Noemi took matters into her own hands. She killed any terrorists she could lay eyes on with he use of her sniper and used stealth to take down her enemies that are closed by. This made her earn the nickname "Soro" which means fox in Filipino. She was portrayed as a fox who sneaks her way to hunt down her target. After the battle, she was now promoted to Captain until in 2018, she retires from the regiment to take her mind off from the horrors that she have dealt with for all these years. In 2019, she receives a call from Estrellita about becoming an associate to Task Force 141 under Kate Laswell's request since Estrellita is a former CIA Agent. Noemi was reluctant from the offer as she is worried for her mental health and also for her family. With no other choice, she accepts the offer and went ahead to meet Laswell. As of now, she is an associate member of TF141 as she continues to serve on the task force together with the other members.

Comeback King Lula Gets Delayed Honeymoon In Brazil

Economic growth is up, Amazon deforestation is down and he's scored some key wins in Congress: Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva finally appears to be getting a delayed honeymoon in his third-term comeback.

Once called "the most popular politician on Earth" by no less than Barack Obama, veteran leftist Lula got off to a bit of a rough start when he returned to office on January 1, following a brutal, divisive election against far-right incumbent Jair Bolsonaro.

It appears the 77-year-old president is hitting his stride in "Lula Three," after a first 100 days marred by gaffes, battles with Congress and mistrust from the business sector -- not to mention riots by Bolsonaro supporters who trashed the presidential palace, parliament and Supreme Court in Brasilia a week after his inauguration.

"Four or five months ago, no one would have thought Lula would be in such a favorable position today," international relations specialist Leonardo Paz Neves of the Getulio Vargas Foundation told AFP.

Dentro del marco conmemorativo del día mundial contra la lucha del cáncer de mama, el ayuntamiento de Cuautla brinda apoyo para que las mujeres puedan realizarse la mastografía de manera gratuita. Lo anterior lo comentó el subdirector de salud en esta ciudad Leonardo Vargas Valle, quien comentó que este año no estará el mastógrafo en la ciudad, no obstante apoyarán en el traslado de las mujeres…

Gimena Castellón Arrieta trabaja las narrativas en el material a través de la construcción en cartón. Sobre un gran volúmen proyecta su video performance de carga y traslado en un humedal. Esta imagen poética es el eje de su producción, donde migración, trabajo, invisibilidad, mujer y esfuerzo son palabras clave. La fotografía de zapatos silenciados con cartón, suelas apilas tipo altar  y pancartas de letras, amplifica temas en zona de fragilidad.

Artista visual, docente y gestora. Realizó estudios en Diseño multimedial con Posgrado en Medios y Tecnologías para la producción pictórica. Desde 2015 vive en Chile, donde trabaja continuamente para generar puentes entre Argentina y Chile. El año 2016 pone en marcha el proyecto Cordillera Galería y el año 2020, inaugura la residencia virtual bajo el nombre de Residencia Cordillera Galería. 

La obra de Gimena se inscribe fuertemente en las biografías y autobiografías visuales e indaga en las narrativas íntimas e individuales, así como en los recuerdos plurales de época que construyen nuestra identidad. En 2018-2019 recibe la beca de creación de los Fondos de Cultura de Chile, Fondart Nacional, para la realización de su proyecto Nada me une a mi mismo, donde trabaja en torno al cartón como material vinculado a lo migrante y lo marginal desde la economía. En 2021 recibe nuevamente el apoyo de Fondart Nacional para Cordillera Galería (https://cordilleragaleria.tumblr.com/) donde ha trabajado con artistas como Leonardo Mayer (ARG), José M. Pérez (CL), Jocelyne Rodríguez Droguett (CL), Jason Mena (MX), Jimena Brescia (ARG), Maia Gattás Vargas (ARG) y Wikellys Pirela (VZ).
