Something that's been in my head a while concerning the brothers and their "roles", so to speak. This is meant to be about the original Mirage comics, but applies to 2003 and IDW as well. Potentially 2012, maybe more. I don't remember the exact issues, but this WILL contain spoilers for IDW and the original comics.

Raph is the one that takes on the responsibilities no one else does/wants to. He very often has to play the part of the bad guy because his convictions are more rebellious in comparison to what Splinter teaches them, core beliefs and rules that Leo in particular takes to heart. Raph keeps his family in line through his anger, for better and worse, being the one of tough love. In volume 1 of Mirage when they retreated from New York after Leo was almost killed, he calls his brother a coward for not "finishing the job" and goes off to face the Shredder alone. He almost got killed because of his impulsiveness, yes, but Leo's always been about saving his family. So really, he had the courage to face Shredder again because it was for someone else's sake. Their whole fight was kind of gruesome and full of harsh words, but at the end of it all, Leo thanks Raph for it. It's very interesting to me. It shows that Leo, even if he was originally mad, understands that his brother was only doing it because he was scared of his family being hurt again. He sees that it was for his own good, so he expresses gratitude.

Alongside that, I've said before that it's not that Raph wants to be the leader because of the title itself, but rather that he wants freedom, and for others to listen to him. He resents Leo for holding him back, not fully understanding his brother's reasoning. He focuses more on action and less on the consequences of said actions and choices.

In essence, Raph is often the one that has to do the dirty work. His parentification in Rise is even similar to this, having to parent his brothers and be the one to tell them "no", even when it isn't his responsibility. But if no one else is going to do it, then he has to be the bad guy, even if his brothers resent him for it. At his core, he always has his family in mind, even if the execution is flawed.

Raph being thought of as the shield has always felt right to me, as shields can still be used to hurt.

On to Leo - Leo is a very existential person, and that also makes him the most spiritual. Kind of a yin and yang ordeal, with him seeing how there's a balance to things. (I would also say that he needs to assign a purpose to everything, if only to rationalize bad things. It's sort of why he has a bit of a crisis in several iterations when Splinter isn't there to guide him). He's the most "warrior-like" because of the way he values life and honors things like bushido. He'll kill to protect, but that doesn't make him callous, just "strong" (putting this in quotes for multiple reasons). I think IDW tackled this quite lovely, especially when he goes on to have a greenhouse just full of life.

However, I can't say all of this without mentioning the fact that Splinter's teachings are often flawed. I've said before that a lot of Leo's major "arcs" and "growing up" is about becoming his own person and leader, and that's still very much true. Blind Sight is my favorite story to have come from the original comics, and I think it really puts into perspective how Leo struggles to see himself as anything but a weapon. It's that bad habit of his where he must assign purpose to everything, struggling when proven wrong or having to recontextualize things. There's so much more I want to say about him and his role, but a lot of it would be reiterating my points from this post. I struggle to call Leo the sword of the team considering his words to Mikey about how, if he were to throw his katana off the roof, would that be the same as throwing himself. But in Blind Sight, he does learn that he's more than just some sword for his father to wield, and that a sword not only hurts, but protects.

People infantilize Mikey wayyyy too much in this fandom for just being the youngest, which makes me have to pick and choose my words very carefully for fear of the wrong impression. He's definitely the goofball that tends to not take things as seriously, but I think something that The Last Ronin meant to emphasize is that his "raw talent" is from a place of love. It's not that he's not the best of them all just because he lacks focus, it's that he's never seen a reason for him to have to be a warrior like that. Surrounded by his brothers, he doesn't have to try so hard. He'll watch their backs and they'll watch his. He's got the same warrior's spirit as the others, it's just that he rejects some of those teachings in his own way? Raph is often seen as the contrast to Leo, and that's typically true, but I think Mikey can be as well... In a way, Mikey has the most ties to humanity, and that's why I think he's similar to Leo in some ways. Not to say the brothers don't have humanity, but... It's so hard to word what I mean, bear with me.

Being a better warrior kind of means losing his fun-loving and go with the flow nature. He would be less like Mikey. Not to say that being good at fighting exactly equates to being deadly, but that's always a possibility, you know? IDW Mikey is such a good balance and blend of his little shit characterization and his more empathetic side. When he's the first to leave and reject Splinter's ways in IDW, this shows what I mean with him being more strong than Leo's way of being considered strong. He might not be "the best", and he might not tap into his raw talent that several characters mention, but I don't think that's what he necessarily wants. Splinter's idea of strong isn't necessarily the best.... Hopefully this section makes sense and my point gets across that Mikey is both the heart and armor of the team.

And as for Donnie... Oh boy! He has to use a gun in the original comics and actually be the one to kill (since only Raph and Leo really did that from what I can remember), and it shakes him up SO BADLY... And volume 1 just ends with him not choosing to go back to the sewers with his brothers, but to stay on the farm with Splinter for a bit. This is quite a finishing scene after ending a whole war within the city...

Donnie doesn't love his brothers any less, it just goes to show that he's never wanted to be the one to have to kill, and maybe wasn't prepared for it. While Mikey is definitely a pacifist, you can argue that Donnie is more of one. Him wielding the bo even supports this idea, as it can still be deadly, but not as lethal as his brothers' weapons. He's a very soft-hearted person that prefers to invent and give life to machines.

I hate when people think he's any less skilled in fighting than his brothers, because that's wrong! He just doesn't like violence and, dare I say it, I don't think he ever wanted to be a warrior in the same way. His intellect is a mightier and more useful weapon to him, because he can use it to keep others safe and make machines that can do all sorts of things. He'll fight to protect, same as the others, but disarming is more of his goal in the end. This makes Donnie, at least to me, both the brains and armor for the group. He's more than that, but... something something, things falling apart when Donnie is missing in SAINW.

At the end of it all, something you have to remember about all of them is that, even when they grow older, they started out as nothing more than child soldiers cultivated for the sake of revenge. Killing was always in the books, but they all have a different role on the team, and killing wasn't meant to be Donnie's. He helps with plan-making and would probably rather be support than a tank, if that makes sense.

So how do you think they would deal with a s/o who one day unprompted, the boys are just doing normal things, is like “It’s frustrating how everything you do is so attractive to me” and s/o hides face in pillow and makes a groaning noise, like they can’t contain themselves, but are trying too. S/o ends up giving their boys a massive smooch once they get themselves out of their pillow confinement?

Leonardo: He may be the self proclaimed "face-man," but we all know that he deals with quite a bit of insecurity. Growing up watching movies with attractive people who look nothing like you can be discouraging, as can having to live in the sewers your whole life because the humans in the above-ground-world would see you as a hideous monster. While dating you, he never once took you for granted, because he knew how fortunate he was to have you. I don't think he would ever intentionally tell you about his insecurities, but it wouldn't be hard to figure out. So when you tell him that, and get so frustrated at your own lack of control over yourself and your emotions, it flusters him. He'd be so grateful that you shoved your face into the pillow because that meant that you wouldn't be able to tell just how flustered he was. He would try to cooly play it off as if it meant nothing to him, but the breathy tone to his voice, and the slight shake of it as he spoke gave it away.

"Well what did you expect? You didn't seriously think that you could be immune to my charm, did you?"

Raphael: I think that Raphael would be a bit more open about his emotions and insecurities with you, not completely, or all the time, but he would most certainly be better at communicating with you when he struggles than Leo would. He most likely told you when the two of you began dating that he was surprised that someone as attractive as you would ever want to go out with a big, scary mutant like him. It would probably take quite some time for your affirmations to sink in and become believable for him, he would appreciate your compliments, but it wouldn't be until much later in the relationship that he would be able to genuinely believe that you thought he was handsome. He might become more accustomed to your compliments, and I doubt that he would ever outright deny them, but I think it would be a while for him to stop doubting, if ever. But whenever you complimented him, especially out of the blue or unprompted, he would become so, so, so soft. His eyes would get all big, a smile as bright as the sun would be exposed by his lips stretching back against his beak, and a slow, steady thump, thump, thump would be heard from his heavy tail banging against the nearest surface.

Donatello:

Probably the most insecure out of all the brothers. Though it was all out of love, his brothers (especially Leo) teased him a lot growing up, and he had spent a good amount of time feeling inferior to theme in any way that didn't involve brains. He had been keenly aware of the fact that they would most likely all never find love, but he had convinced himself that even if by some miracle his brothers were able to, that he would never have the privilege. He wasn't big and strong like Raph, or confident and outgoing like Leo, or as friendly and cute as Mikey. He was a cold, introverted man who only knew how to navigate his tech. So when he got into a relationship, as happy as he was, he was always waiting for the other shoe to drop. He was convinced that it was all just a moment's lapse of judgement on their part, and that soon they would realize their mistake, and leave him behind. Because of that mindset, he had endeavored to savor every single moment he spent with his partner, he lavished them with every gift he could think of, and made sure that, even though he wasn't overly affectionate by nature, that they never forgot, even for a second, how much they meant to him, even if he was convinced that he cared for them much more than they could ever care for a monster such as himself. He would never admit these insecurities to them, he did not want them to feel obligated to reassure him, he didn't want to bring them down, but it was clear to them with the look of pure shock and disbelief that he let slip whenever they complimented him, and so they continued to, in hopes that they could crack through his walls, and convince him that they loved him just as much as he loved them. And every time they looked his way, no matter how long they were together, or would be together, it would feel like a gift from the highest of deities, a blessing for their most loving devotee. He may never fully stop viewing himself as a "monster," but it was okay, so long as he was theirs.

I have delved deep into learning astrology in the last two years, and after looking at a variety of charts and comparing them to my real life experiences, here is a brief list of my favorite vs unfavorite placements in general. Note: This relates to my chart specifically but if you have similar placements as me you'll probably feel the same way. *I have a lot of Cancer/Leo energy*

Least Favorites:

Libra Moons 🔮 A controversial pick but I have to say my piece. Having your moon sign in Libra is considered a pleasant placement and indictive of a peace seeking person. However, the insatiable need to be such a people pleaser makes me really ticked with this placement. Initially it's pretty hard to dislike any Libra placements, as their gifted chameleons that are known for being harmonious, attractive, and diplomatic. All good things. But in the moon sign I have found these people to be especially needy of everyone's approval that it's to their detriment. Their lack of individuality and independence is a sore point that doesn't get talked about enough. If you have heavy Aquarius placements l think this is a tough placement to relate to even if they are trine air signs. Beware of Libra moons in relationships, they tend to change themselves to fit the perfect person they think their partner wants. While in some cases that sounds great, in a toxic person this placement can play out extremely manipulative. They will go to great lengths to bend and twist who they are in an effort to get the approval of the ones they seek. I once heard it referred to as the gold digger moon sign. Even in men they may charm you but watch out for those lingering eyes, they can be a flirt and more easily transform around all the women they pursue. It's a gift for them but a warning for everyone else. If you have this placement you know it's true lol don't lie. Fire placements in birth chart will help confidence and hopefully subdue some of this toxicity.

Gemini Sun 🔎- Not too much to say here. This probably has to do with my Cancer Sun. Gemini's dual nature is so wild to me in general but especially in the sun placement, they can be fickle and petty. If you bruise the ego of a Gemini sun, I have seen things get nasty. Talk about they sure can dish it but they sure can't take it. On one hand, I hate admitting how much I dislike this placement since it's one of the most popular placements among some of the most talented entertainers! But in real life, some of that allusion and spark wears off that you see on screen. Gemini sun's dual nature is tough for a lot of the other zodiac signs especially if you have heavy Taurus placements. If you have a Gemini sun, hopefully you have some more earth placements to ground this fidgety energy a bit better. Just remember to check that ego and you'll be more loved for that entertaining curious soul rather than despised.

Aries Venus 💥- Out of all the Venus signs, this is definitely one that I tend to have some beef with in general, even when it's someone I have a non romantic relationship with. Here Venus is in its detriment. An Aries Venus can manifest as someone who falls in love fast, and falls out of love just as fast. All the fire sign Venus can be difficult since they tend to "burn" through a relationship quickly and suffer from this need for lots of stimulus. However, Aries in Venus I have noticed can be particularly challenging because they have a tendency to ghost, run, or even engage in some secretive behavior, but above all that I find people with this Venus sign to have a childlike quality that can quickly turn from endearing to just out right annoying. Unconventional relationships and lifestyles might best suit an Aries Venus. Relationship stuff aside, please explain to me how people with this Venus can be so passive aggressive??? Fire energy is generally more direct but I have noticed that to be the opposite with this sign, which is odd.

🎀Pisces Venus - Where do I even start with how beautiful this placement is. I am jealous I don't have it. I've heard this placement be criticized for it's boundless nature, the love of this placement can lack conventional boundaries in relationships. In my opinion though everyone will probably feel a bit better if they have at least one Pisces Venus in their lives. They just give such an abundance of love, empathy, kindness, and joy to the one's they care about. True empath and healer placement. This placement is so romantic and dreamy. They're just so pure of heart. Hopefully this placement doesn't have anything weighing it down in an overall birth chart. I think this is a lovely placement and if you hurt a Pisces Venus your probably the problem not them.

🌙Cancer Rising - This is my favorite rising sign especially for girls. I just love the witchy, mermaid like aesthetic of this placement. The big eyes!!! Oh it's just so pretty. Is it any wonder that this is the placement Margot Robbie has? I also love Taurus Risings, but first place for me has to be cancer. I mean I am a Tumblr girly and Tumble aesthetic in it's prime was definitely giving Cancer Rising vibes. I know it's not for everyone but idk for me it's that cuteness this placement has too. Cancer risings look like fairytale princesses to me with their glowy skin, and round baby doll faces. It breaks my heart that so many Cancer risings may not see how beautiful they are right now since it's so trendy to have buccal fat removal from your cheeks. Their youthful ingenue appearance is precious to me even if it's not on a trend. More love to round faces.

💚Aquarius Mercury - Few people are in my opinion as naturally witty and entertaining as an Aquarius Mercury. Intelligent, bold, and unique. People with this Mercury sign seem to have so many natural talents. This Mercury sign is usually the best conversationalist in any social setting as well as a savvy spokesperson in any work setting. Not everyone can keep up with the deep mind of this Mercury sign. So they can be unfairly labeled as being too kooky, or far fetched in their ideas. Aquarius is a tough sign in general since it is ruled by Saturn and can be associated with progressiveness, independence, and even rebelliousness. However, in Mercury Aquarius seems to be a great placement for anyone that wants to be a jack of all trades or wants to think outside the box and try new things. Most likely an Aquarius Mercury is sure to be an interesting individual with a signature flare that stands out. I personally find these individuals fascinating.

River: How are things going with your crush?

He turns quite red, and calms himself a bit.

Leo: Things are going fine! We run into each other every now and then at the Restuarant. We went on a couple dates. We don't want to put out to much about our relationship for privacy reasons. Okay next question!

River: Are going to go anywhere else after you finish school?

Leo: No, I really like the clinic, and want to stay there. Plus we have some big plans for the place, like we set up a little cafe type area in the waiting room for clients who might have to wait for their appointments!

Leo: Kinda for both. We didn't get many channels that had Anime on them when we were little, and it was a while before we got the internet installed, so we may have watched Pokémon, maybe some random DBZ, but didn't watch alot of it because of fighting over what to watch.

Leo pauses to take a drink before continuing.

Leo: But I have been watching some interesting ones recently, like Cells at Work, My Hero Academia, and Black Clover. Though all of us have our own tastes, and I won't tell you what the others like, ask them yourself. Next!

River: Do you have any odd house rules? Not game rules BTW.

Leo: Well this needs some explaining. Okay, a few years again we moved to our current home after an accident destroyed our old one. When we got here we started some renovations, like putting a huge tub in one of the bathrooms that fits all of us in it with room to spare! It looks like an Onsen. Well that left us with one actual Shower, since the huge tub is more for soaking than cleaning.

Another pause to take a drink and catch his breath.

Leo: So we are kinda extra, and tend to have Shower Concerts that last a long time. So if someone else wanted to shower after they would have to wait. So since no one wanted to try making a shower schedule, we now have a waterproof speaker in that bathroom that we can all control. So we play a set number of songs, or a really long song, and have to end our showers when they finish, or else we add an annoying song to the list.

River: Chat would like to say that's very weird.

Leo: Yeah, but it's that or scream at each other to get out of the Shower. Next question!

River: Do you know any other languages?

Leo: Yup! I know quite a bit of Spanish, but I'm a bit out of practice, so I might mess up my words. And we're all working on our Japanese. Dad didn't really teach us, because he didn't think he'd want to go back after leaving his family.

River: On that note, Do you have any family in Japan?

Leo: Maybe? We haven't really tried reaching or searching, because the last time Dad talked to anyone from his family was like, (he's trying to figure the right number) in like the 80's, 90's, and he doesn't really remember if he had any cousins, aunts, uncles, and the like. We might make some attempts in the future, but it's got to be an agreed upon decision. Next question please!

What are some of your favorite character relationships/dynamics in TMNT, and why? Is there anything that you particularly like seeing explored with them in fan works (art, writing, comics, etc)?

Dyanmics! Right!

Right off the bat, first thing I think of is 2003 Raph and Donnie. They have this middle siblings vibe I like a lot. With Donnie often acting as Raph's calming force when he's riled up. Of course, everyone has taken a turn calming Raph down but its different with Don. Leo has some level of authority as team leader, so even when he's approaching Raph as his brother, Raph is on the defensive automatically. And Mikey will often rile Raph up on propose because he's bored. Don will lightly rib Raph, and tease him like any brother would, but Don and Raph are on a more even playing field in a way. It's one of those character relationships that we don't see in the forefront much but its there and I love it.

Another one off the top of my head is Rise Donnie and Mikey! Donnie is shown to be a bit touch-avoidant. He doesn't mind hugs but he likes them to be on his terms. Unless it's Mikey. Mikey gets a hall pass to hang off Donnie whenever he wants. Plus, the show is in the best place to have fun with the idea of Mikey having crazy ideas he wants Donnie to build. And I have 300251 more things we can add to make this even BETTER!'. They're both a little unhinged but the way that they each approach things complements each other nicely

One that had potential but was explored well in the canon is 2012 Leo and Raph, specifically, post-coma. 2012 had a chronic issue of resetting character development to suit their episode plots. Which is a shame because I would've liked to see more of Leo and Raph being collaborative leaders. Raph spent three months acting as the family leader, looking after things while Leo was out. And when Leo wakes up, we still see moments of Raph being a bit less angry and more aggressively supportive of his brothers. I think it would've been a neat idea if Leo started to confide in Raph more so than Splinter after the farmhouse and Raph being calmer when trying to point out any issues he had with Leos plans. Maybe even Raph being more protective of Leo and insisting that no one is allowed to leave the Lair without a buddy

In fanfic tho, I do love some overall brother feels. If I had to pick, I'd like to see more fics (any version...maybe not rise tho, this prob doesn't work in rise) of Raph managing to push Leo to the point he starts crying and begging Raph to please not go put himself in danger again (the other way around works too tbh) Or maybe more 2012 exploring how much the turtles changed during Leo's coma and being away from Splinter making them realize that they have some unhealthy dynamics in the family (not splinter bashing, more....2012 messed up but the writers keep trying to tell us he's never wrong so it kinda nukes the character of the overprotective dad they set up)

"Leo," the handler says from the corner. His voice is a mixture of equal parts annoyance and bewilderment at the late-stage act of defiance, and he reaches for the remote. "Just answer the question."

Leo smiles in earnest. "The first time Luke played the piano for me is, to this day, one of my favorite early memories. I guess it wasn't exactly a moment of 'freedom,' because I was still very much under contract, but it feels like the beginning of my 'freedom', looking back. The first time he played it, I didn't even realize he knew how. I kind of thought the piano was there for show, and mourned its neglect constantly. One night he beat me home, and when I walked in I could hear it, and I think it was one of the first times I felt excited for something, in as long as I could remember. Hey! I don't think I've been asked this on tumblr so, time to go on a Rant™️

('03 is my favorite turtle show. It's just so goooood but okay specifically about the turtles--)

oh right i got really long I should add in a readmore--

Gonna start with Mikey. Ah Mikey. I think I called him a gremlin troll of a turtle in some tags earlier and I stand by that. This turtle wakes up every day going 'how can I make someone else (mostly Raph) chose violence'. He is good at reading people and he makes that everyone else's problem. Weaponized Incompetence King. I love him so much. He was my favorite on my first watch through but I don't think I have a favorite any more.

But also he's a good boy!! He wants to help people out. I was rewatching the series but I didn't really get past season 1 so I'm just thinking about the first Turtle Titan episode. He got an idea on how they could be COOL but nobody else was down for it, so fine he'll do it on his own--

10/10 turtle. Menace to society. Probably the smartest Mikey in the turtle multiverse.

Raph. Oh sweetie. Boy has so many feelings and struggles with dealing with them. 😭Relatable. He learns and grows over the course of the series and I'm happy for him. Big softie on the inside, prickly cactus on the outside. Feel like a lot of his anger is just other feelings turning into anger because y'know. Emotions Hard.

He has his struggles and his problems but he loves his brothers. I love his dynamics with everyone. Fighting with Mikey, the way he manages to actually be Soft with Donnie. The way he manages to even out into someone that helps Leo keep his balance over just. Challenging him in a way that sets Leo off. (Remembering the fight over the sword Shredder gave Leo early on now--)

10/10 turtle too. Goober. Not as funny as he thinks he is (and that only makes him more endearing.)

Leo. Oh no honey. Sweetheart. Baby boy. This boy goes THROUGH IT. I've seen a meta about his Trauma and how he's a lot more laughing and joking around pre-Window and then we don't see him lightening up again till Fast Forwards/BTTS. And yeah I can see it. This boy thinks DEEP. Maybe a bit too much so. Internalization King. Give him a nice cup of tea, a warm blanket and a hug please.

He's just so weighted down with the task of keeping his brothers alive. Mikey's the one who wanted to be a superhero but Leo's probably the one who actually has the most 'heroic' temperament. Very keen sense of 'bad things are happening and we can do something about it'. But also 'bad things may happen to us if we meddle too much'. (Which, they do. And then they all almost die because of calls Leo made so of course he handles that extremely well.)

10/10 turtle. Daddy's boy got his Autistic Swag. Ninjitsu is his special interest.

Don. Ah, Donny. (Which is apparently how it's spelled in 03.) Kind soul. Sweetheart. Precious. Absolute menace. Do not let his mild manners fool you. This boy is insane. LEAST common sense out of the four of them. Thinks that playing a flight simulator makes him qualified to fly an actual helicopter. (If Raph had hair Don would absolutely be making it go grey.) Mikey is a menace on purpose. Don? Don thinks he's the sensible, rational one. Which just makes him even more terrifying.

He's such a kind, sweet soul. Loves building his vehicles lol. He's got the combo of being fairly even-tempered and also more mild mannered so he's good at not making any Bickers worse among his family. I love how they all dropped everything and went to check on him in that one episode where he was stressed out and yelled at everyone. 😭

10/10 turtle. Let's not forget this boy had his own PTSD arc in the Back to the Sewers season. Of all places.

WHAT THE HELL

HIGH CARD IS GOOD?!

tl;dr very flashy and aesthetic, consistently good in that regard, but the story was not always gripping to me. however, with the ultimate payoff in the last three eps, totally worth it imo

full review:

wow wow wow i'm kind of glad i fell way behind on anime and had the last three eps of s2 to binge all at once because hoooly shit i enjoyed that immensely

at no point did i think high card was bad, but it definitely had moments where it didn't fully grab me. there were times when it felt like all flash, no substance

and it's definitely not perfect, i have some serious and fairly significant gripes with it. mainly i'm really bummed that leo, wendy, and vijay never really got fully fleshed out. i mean i get it, finn's the main character and chris is the thinly veiled love interest also important so obviously they're going to take up most of the time, but i really feel like the other members of the crew had so much unexplored potential (especially wendy and vijay, because leo did sort of get his moment as a factor in the old man yaoi situation)

speaking of which THE OLD MAN YAOI!! man there were a lot of moving pieces in this show, and sometimes they came together in messy ways (or didn't really come together at all... some bits do still feel pretty disjointed and jumpy to me, tbh)

but overall the payoff of the s2 finale was absolutely worth it to me, particularly since it dealt with my favorites of those moving pieces: the old man yaoi and the sudden YANDERE ONIISAN ARC

i find myself really wishing the show had gone harder on both of those threads sooner, but like... honestly i'm not disappointed with how they played out. the whole theodore and ban thing could not have been more tropey (YEARS of loathing only for a "the one i wanted to protect all along was... you" and then dying for each other like HELLO yes an absolute tropefest BUT TROPES THAT I LOVE. GOOD FOR THOSE TOXIC DOOMED YAOI MFERS)

tilt has always been fascinating to me right from the character design and i am more or less satisfied with how things played out for him too, though i kind of wish we'd had more of this development spread throughout the series. i guess it was there, but... i dunno. in some ways feels like there could have been More (but i may be biased)

like you gotta feel bad for him, it's a sad story, but also that extreeemely creepy unhinged yandere oniisan "i have been stalking you i literally have a wall with giant blown up photos of you i hate the other guy who is calling himself your brother" sequence was SO FUCKING DELICIOUS LIKE WTF??? stunned and absolutely blown away by how hard they went on that, what a delight

(ironically it makes me think about how unhinged matakara in bucchigiri?! just doesn't work while unhinged tilt in high card works super well, but this is not about bucchigiri?! so i won't get too into that)

i am still admittedly just. kind of like. idk. i go back and forth on finn and chris, as characters and as partners. i don't dislike them but they aren't always all that compelling to me. sometimes they definitely are, but sometimes they just fall a bit flat to me. this probably isn't an issue with them as characters, though, just a matter of taste. i occasionally found the chemistry between them lacking as well, but sometimes it was really on point

same feeling about the crew dynamics in general. i looove a good like heist crew or spy agency crew, whatever it is, when the dynamics just click. and sometimes they didn't, here. i am too sleepy to articulate it properly right now but it just felt like there was something missing, some pieces not really fitting together. i didn't dislike any of the characters, but just... i guess wanted more team shenanigans? maybe there was no time for that but it would have been nice (like this is one show that could have done with a few filler and/or fluff episodes, imo!)

anyway. christ. my eye emoji-ing at tilt based solely on his character design finally paid off after two gay ass seasons lmao. good night

Further detail below because I need to yap. Also Maia is an ex-Ultio and might (or might not be) involved with certain Darkwick incidents in the past. Same as Ria but she's always been in Sinostra. Some of these things are subject to change.

I am not in any way disregarding their characterization to the canon, I am merely interpreting them in a way that would fit to my original characters' interactions with them. If you don't like my interpretation, or if you're a non-sharing yume, you might want to step away.

Also these are hella long.

1. Maia's

Maia prefer to keep her nose out of Frostheim students. Mainly because the ones in power (Jin and Tohma) never poke into her business first. Sure the general students have reported her and Ria to them a few times due to some silly drama that those students started, but it's not worth having bad blood with someone who has influence in the police department.

Maia -> Jin: Tyrant Jin -> Maia: Lowly cop Maia -> Tohma: Three-eyed Creep Tohma -> Maia: Inspector Hasegawa

She feels indebted to Alan for accepting her in Vagastrom. She hoped to share his burden by being vice-captain but Maia was missing from Darkwick's radar because of her work (she was even presumed dead at one point). If you add that to her already-strained relationship with the institute, appointing someone else to take the job was the perfect way to spit on her face. At least that's what she feels about it. Regardless, she take it upon herself to be useful in Vagastrom by bailing those thugs students from jail. Of course they'll still be punished but it's in terms of Alan and Maia. She respects his way of handling them but still thinks he's being too soft sometimes.

Maia -> Alan: Mido Alan -> Maia: Officer

She dislike Leo for carrying the title of Vagastrom's Vice-Captain, but she still acknowledge his effort in fulfilling his duties– the results at least. She doesn't like that he tend to mess around and abuse that power, but as long as he's not putting the house in danger she could let him do whatever. And that doesn't mean Leo is free from having a target on his back either. The second he messed up Maia won't hesitate to take over his title. One day she would expose his police record (which she already has on her hand) to the public but she would rather use that for later.

Maia -> Leo: Mutt/Kurosagi Leo -> Maia: Bitch (behind Maia)/Miss cop

Sho sees her as somewhat a mentor. Like Alan, she order ask for some rounds in the Pit. Still, she's not as brutal as to go multiple rounds like Alan because she has other things to do. Maia would never say it out loud but she wouldn't be as resentful if Sho was the vice captain instead of Leo. But then again she's also aware he would abuse it for Leo's sake. He still thinks she's scary until now but there are times when she actually acts like a human being too. "Sometimes you're a bitch, senpai. But I've spent years with a meanie (Leo)." He feel a sense of pride whenever she compliments his cooking– making her one of his favorite HTH customer.

Maia -> Sho: Sho Sho -> Maia: Mai-senpai

Maia has some dirt on Haru and that makes her scary in his eyes (it's not that big of a deal, to be honest. It's just that Maia acts like she just discovered kilograms of cr4ck in Jabberwock hence why Haru is always on his toes). They used to be drinking buddies though even if only a few times. She sometime visits the safari for a jog and it's free of charge as long as she visits during closing hours.

Maia -> Haru: Sagara (Sagara-san) Haru -> Maia: Sir Maia

When Maia visits the safari and run into Towa, he would help her with physical training a little. Towa sees it as... more of a play-time but Maia doesn't care. He loves playing hunt-the-anomaly (no anomalous creature harmed) with her and hearing her talk about her case. The bloodier the better. Towa is like her personal therapist and trainer (please seek actual help, Maia)

Maia -> Towa: Towa/Towa-sensei Towa -> Maia: Sakura 🌸

Taiga creeps her out in a way that he's too unpredictable to figure out. One of Maia's specialty is solving ghoul crime and capturing them, so she hopes to never see his name on any of her case. Taiga remember her as the friend of his relative (Ria) and Maia wants it to stay that way. She does not want him to remember her name nor call her out. Maia doesn't want anything to do with him ever.

Maia -> Taiga: Hoshibami Taiga -> Maia: Lily's (Ria's) friend

Maia dislikes Romeo for two reasons: he is Leo's close friend, and that he had a history with Ria. Not a good one. Back then Romeo thought he could really use a high-ranking cop in his network but changed his mind after Maia made it clear she loathes him for what he did to Ria. Even though Ria herself choose to turn a blind eye on what happened, Maia continues to dislike him still.

Maia -> Romeo: Bastard Romeo -> Maia: Dog

Maia learned that Ritsu is a part of Shinjo family who had some history of making it difficult for criminals to meet their punishment. It's infuriating especially when their clients are criminals that Maia had caught with her own blood and tears. She might be a rule breaker despite her job as the upholder of justice, but there's a line to how far you can play with the law. Even though she bends the law here and there to her advantage, a punishment is always necessary when things go too far no matter who you are. But when a Shinjo is involved, any criminal can walk free if they have enough money to afford it. She hates that Ria is so doting to that Sinostra freshman, and now she's the only thing standing between Maia and her plan to balance the score with that family. As for Ritsu himself, he thought about one day partnering with Maia as he could use someone with her expertise. Had Maia wasn't so hostile to him, he could've looked up to her.

Maia -> Ritsu: Little Shinjo/that junior Ritsu -> Maia: Inspector Hasegawa

Maia has a good relationship with the current Hotarubi ghouls and she exchange friendly greetings when they pass by. She often see Subaru lining up in HTH, so they'd indulge in a little chit-chat as they wait for their turn to order. Maia knows about Subaru's mission (Lyca) but decide to keep her mouth shut about it since the order was from the Institute.

Maia -> Subaru: Subaru (Subaru-san) Subaru -> Maia: Maia (Maia-san)

Haku and Maia are also on good terms. Although they both seem to always half-ass their way when it comes to duties but at the end they still get the job done. She was disappointed when Haku decide to quit smoking since they're both partners in that area. Now she wouldn't stop bullying him for it with "Have you found that light(er) you're looking for?"

Maia -> Haku: Haku/Priest Haku -> Maia: Officer

Maia doesn't know Zenji still roams around as a ghost. Nothing much going on between them other than Maia finding his eccentric act amusing. If he was alive, she would love to chat about her crime cases with him. He would get new materials to work with and she got to feel that the things she'd done were not as bad as she thought they were. (Zenji was her #2 therapist after Towa lol)

Maia -> Zenji: Zenji (Zenji-san) Zenji -> Maia: Supreme Detective

She's always on guard when it comes to Edward because Maia was involved in kidnapping catching him, he could be holding some resentment and Maia would understand. But this is Ed we're talking about. The strongest ghoul she ever hunted. She couldn't care less if she's the one being targeted but she couldn't shake the feeling that Ed knows Ria's stigma— and now he is the reason Maia won't ever let her near Obscuary. Even interacting with any of students from that house will result in big argument between the two. Ed finds the irony very amusing and she does not take that in a positive light. Does she trapping him in this place or does she the one being trapped with him?

Maia -> Ed: Bloodsucker/Hart Ed -> Maia: "Hunter"

Maia knows Rui and Ria are friends, and knowing that she's being all buddy-buddy with a flirt irritates her. The big reason is despite his complaints about taking care of the vampire he's still an Obscuary no matter what, and Maia will do anything in her power to keep Ria away from anything or anyone relating to that. Rui once took a signal wrongly (and flirted with her) and it did not end well for him.

Maia -> Rui: Mizuki Rui -> Maia: Inspector

Maia only goes to Mortkranken for a small check-up or when she need sleeping pills. OR when she's badly injured that she needs to take off her left hand glove. She only let Yuri to treat her since he's the only one that knows about her stigma effect (besides a small number of people). As long as he keep it a secret, she will not sniff around on his experiments. With or without with a warrant. She dislike hospitals in general so she prefer to stay away from that place as much as she can.

Maia -> Yuri: Doc/Isami Yuri -> Maia: Hasegawa

2. Jyuria's

Ria and Frostheim general students tend to have problems a lot, even though Ria is always too busy to care these rich snobs would still want to poke her with mommy and daddy's money just for the sake of revenge. Well, everything that Ria did was all in the name of defense (supported by Maia). Fortunately, Jin and the Captain's bitch – Tohma – never put much thought into any of their silly conflict (thanks to Maia). Although she wished they could be her client one day so she can plant one of her spy even for one night but Tohma would most likely not let it happen. Having a patron like Jin would benefit her a lot but at the same time why would he ever need in the first place? Especially in that sort of thing. But hey, a girl can hope and that monocle is always standing in the way. People would think Tohma and Maia flirt with each other when it's all sarcastic remarks in the air.

Ria -> Jin: Your Majesty/Momma's boy (behind his back) Jin -> Ria: - Ria -> Tohma: Mr. Tohma Tohma -> Ria: Madam Ria

Despite not directly interfering with the casino, she still knows what's happening there from time to time. Meaning she's aware that Kaito has been playing cat and mouse with Romeo for some time. She love the place as much as they do because it stands as a symbol of their bond, but after what happened she couldn't bring herself to handle things like she used to. Her feeling of dislike mostly comes from fear because Taiga doesn't act like someone she once knew. He's now a stranger in her eyes, and up until now she's still trying to familiarize herself with whatever is possessing her boss.

To her, his existence in Sinostra is like "a breath of fresh air in this bleak and murky house." Whatever the hell that means. Her dream is to one day being able to squish his cheeks with both hands, after that she would die peacefully. (Ria are you a pervert wtf...)

Ria -> Ritsu: My Little Ritsu/Ritsu-chan Ritsu -> Ria: Ria-senpai (She forgot to include her term of greeting in their contract. Initially she wanted him to call her "big sister" or "nee-chan" but the best she could get is being called senpai by him and even THAT negotiation took a long time to consider on Ritsu's part. Which is pretty understandable if he wants to keep things professional after receiving her signature.)

Unlike with Maia, Subaru finds interacting with Ria is rather eerie. Her boldness scares him a lot and you don't find people who can tell you're nervous from the sound of your heartbeat every day. She tends to make him feel invisible when she's around, and it's not in a good way. Sad to say he's the only one feeling that because she likes teasing him. But she's also not looking forward to another one of Maia's scolding when she gets too far for teasing the poor guy.

Swanky guy who loved to praise her beauty and Ria ate that shit up every time because she knew all of them were sincere. Zenji did not try to get anything from her in return like other guys. She met Edward only once during her visit to Obscuary and that was also when she found out her stigma couldn't detect his presence— which was scary. As for him, Ed is simply curious on why his captor – Maia – is so hell-bent on never letting Ria step foot in his lair. After that encounter Ria is more cautious on her business visit.

Rui loves Ria like he would to his own sister and so does she. He's the one who taught her all about mixing drinks up until she runs her own bar in Sinostra. Sometimes he feel bad for keeping secrets from him. He wish that one day the four of them can be sitting together in the same place so he doesn't have to watch out for them like keeping eye on two broken ex-lovers who hate each other but couldn't let go of one another.

He's amusing to tease but she would rather keep things professional with him. Leonardo has definitely dabbled in otome games, although I don't see him as having played a whole lot of them. I could see him being a huge fan of Ikemen Sengoku, though. His favorite IkeSen suitor would probably either be Hideyoshi or Sasuke, no you cannot convince me otherwise. I think he would have a loose-liking of Nobunaga but mostly just because he kinda gives Karai vibes (i do not ship Leo/Karai). I can kinda see him kinning Hideyoshi and admiring Sasuke, being more attracted to Nobu. Leo may be taken sightly aback if he realizes just how many otome games you've played. As much as I hc Raph to be such a (secret) sucker for romance media, I feel like he wouldn't really understand or be interested in otome games. He wouldn't seriously judge, but he would tease you for playing so many. He'd joke, saying that you probably like your anime boyfriends more than him, but I think deep down that he would really want the reassurance. If he was gonna like any otome game, it would have to be one here the MC falls in love with a "monster," be that a literal one, in the sense of them just not being human (Like IkeVamp) or in the sense of the LI just having irredeemable qualities/being aggressive/being evil, I think that's the only kind he could really get behind. Any kind of Beauty and the Beast type of story he looovesssss. No matter how many otome games you've played, I guarantee that this man has played more. And not just otome games, but really any dating sim. The FNaF Dating Sim will always (ironically, mostly because of nostalgia) have a place in his heart, but honestly, I kind of see him being a big fan of MLQC (Lucien is his favorite 100% sweetheart, but also evil scientist? How did you find/get them? not at the moment, but i used to. grandparents had an oldman bastard cat i adored as a kidlet. had guppies there for a while no clue where we first got them, they were cool but not really my interest (and was sad to watch them eat their own babies). had a dog i didn't want that bit me there for a short while (gave them to a good home). had a snake that died and we suspected foul play so stopped with the pets until we were somewhere safer. now im too sickly and prone to allergies to afford a pet.

39) What's the most unusual thing you've ever eaten? a cursed mixture of peanut butter, chocolate milk mix, cheeseitz and something else i forgot (garlic powder maybe?). i think i had some kind of nutritional imbalance because it actually tasted good to me for the first several bites and then it tasted like garbage. thank fuck that particular craving never happened again.

40) How did you 'find' fandom? looked up ferngully (it was new at the time) on the early internet and found my first fic (lol, oh boy!) got a little traumatized by not understanding what i stumbled upon and not knowing how to even begin to process it and backed off. a couple of years later went looking for gundam wing official art because that was my fave anime at the time and found a webring by accident. they had official art, fanart, and FANFICTION! they also very helpfully TAGGED THEIR SHIT so i learned what stuff meant and had in it and could make choices on what i could handle. and i've been in "fandom" ever since. although the current hyperfixation has changed several times since then. part of why finding a gundam wing fic from that era on ao3 (that DID NOT EXIST AT THE TIME) kind of jumpscared me, but in a good way

Hobbies/interests- I'm a huge sports girl! I played tennis competitively in high school and for a year in college. Goals/ambitions/plans for the future- My goal is to become a physical therapist! :) I'll be going to grad school soon enough! I've always liked the idea of being a teacher but my heart belongs with being a physical therapist. However, I do plan to look into being a lecturer one day! Likes/dislikes- I like bread. A lot. My favorite food is sandwiches because of the versatility :3 I LOVE chips, fave snack hehehe I'm also someone who always likes to try something new! Even if I go to the same place, I'll almost always try something new (unless I'm craving some comfort food hehe). I dabble in cooking :3 I'm trying to get better tho >.< But I thoroughly enjoy it regardless! I love watching movies!!! I even had an AMC movie subscription last summer and watched 32 movies in 3 months!!! My favorite genres are comedies, rom-coms, and horror/thriller! I also really like stickers 🥹 my current obsessions are deco stickers for my photocard holders and super cute anime stickers! I usually go to in-person events so I can support independent artists >.< They're literally the best! As for dislikes, I don't like rude people with a bad attitude. Working in healthcare, it occurs more often than I'd like, but even in the real world it seems like it really kills people to be kind 🥲

Type when it comes to dating/what you look for in a person- I'm looking for someone who WANTS to take care of me. After watching JJK and falling in love with Nanami, I definitely need a man who can take care of a strong woman (this includes Daichi too 😩). I'm completely capable of taking care of myself, I have my whole life, but I'd definitely appreciate someone who WANTS to support me, love me, cook for me, and take care of responsibilities when I'm overwhelmed. This goes both ways. I know I'm able to provide that to anyone I end up loving. Communication is huge for me as well. They need to be good at setting, voicing, and respecting boundaries. Respectful is a must 😌. Gentleman is much appreciated 😌. And someone who can also make me laugh! Bc at the end of the day, we all gotta laugh at something 😂😭 I would also love someone who creates a safe space for me to be myself and vulnerable. I want someone who's not afraid of emotions. I like to voice my concerns and I would hate it if I were with someone dismissive and unable to empathize with me. Someone who takes action- not just saying they will make adjustments but actually shows they're making those changes. Someone who seeks to understand. Anything else to include!- I'm the youngest of 3 girls! I graduated college early, not because I'm super smart but because I work really hard 🫡 A Disney princess I'm most similar to is Tiana! I also go to Disneyland a lot! I even went to Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea this year!!! My favorite movie has GOT TO BE: White Chicks!!! I know too many lines from there hehehehe. Some fun facts: I can say the alphabet backwards in under 4 seconds :3, I was able to solve a rubrik's cube in a minute flat (I average around 1:25), and I can flip a cup with my butt 🍑👀
