In a Precure perspective, is the 13-sign Zodiac even useful? (Part I: Washio Era)

Looking at this “recent” version of the zodiac, I had to wonder if the changes made any sense to any of the cures.

Let’s focus on the official birthdays, starting with FwPC.

Nagisa’s birthday falls on October 10, which is Libra in the western zodiac. However, with the sudden shift, she’s technically a Virgo.

Honoka celebrates her birthday on April 4, making her an Aries by old standards. In reality, she is a Pisces. 

In the case of Hikari, with a birthday of September 9, instead of Virgo like it is expected to be, this new zodiac wheel considers her a Leo.

Does it matter?

Since Libra is an air sign, it can be compatible to Aries, a fire sign.

Same can be said for the complimenting pair of a water and earth sign, like Pisces and Virgo, respectively.  So, there’s no change to the compatibility.

Hikari, on the other hand, just opens a new headcanon (involving Pokemon): Leo is a fire sign, guarded by the Sun. There is such a thing as an alchemist Leo, which Solgaleo is based on.

[Keep in mind Hikari’s name means “light”. ]

Can anyone imagine someone like Hikari having a legendary in her team?

Bottom Line: not really

It may not be a big deal with Futari wa, but Splash Star, this is where the 13-sign zodiac can be SUPER useful and make much more sense than the original 12.

Saki’s birthday, August 7, falls under Leo in the western zodiac. According to the newer version, she is actually a Cancer. Personally, this fits perfectly with her cure forms.

As you can see, Cure Bloom represents the Earth, while Cure Bright symbolizes the moon. Since the moon is Cancer’s ruler planet, it makes more sense for Saki to be the latter than the former. Also, water and earth signs are compatible. 

Now, let’s look at Mai, whose birthday falls on November 20. She would be a Scorpio, but really, she’s a Libra. Once again, this makes more sense, since Egret and Windy are basically air-related.

Bottom Line: THIS IS A HUGE DEAL.

Onto Y!PC5, where there is one official and one unofficial birthday. The rest, unfortunately, are left in mystery, but I’m willing to change my predictions.

First, I’ll talk about Nozomi. With her birthday on November 8, she really could be a Scorpio. On the other hand, the new zodiac says otherwise; more like a Libra. Now, I actually like this better, for two reasons.

#1: Nozomi is ditzy. Air signs are usually considered “airheads”, which has not been proven, but some people think this way.

#2: Libra represents the scale: two sides of a person. Thus, Dark Dream could also be part of this sign, since she represented her past (not so much opposite though). 

Now, to address the unofficial birthday for Komachi. Fans speculate her birthday falls on March 10, which is Pisces on the old zodiac wheel. However, you shift that cycle, and this is where I’m debunking this theory. 

In the new cycle, March 10 is barely under Aquarius, but knowing Komachi has earth based powers, there is NO EFFING WAY she can be an Aquarius. If anything, she should be an Earth-based sign, most likely Virgo, because of her surname “Akimoto”. On the other hand, to correspond to the Wu Xing, she should be a Taurus to coincide with the Azure Dragon.

As for the other four Yes!Pre5 cures:

Urara (Cure Lemonade): being she has metal in her powers, has to fall as a Virgo, since it is an Earth sign and metal is represented in the Wu Xing by Byakko (White Tiger of Autumn). However, she could be a Gemini, to coincide with the Azure Dragon. 

Rin would have to be Leo, only because her surname, Natsuki, translates to “summer tree”.

This leaves Karen in a rough spot, because her surname, “Minazuki”, translates to “June’s purity”. Technically, she should be a Cancer, since “zuki” translates to moon and Aqua is water-based. HOWEVER, THIS FUCKING NEW ZODIAC is causing massive confusion. For her to coincide to the Black Tortoise of the North, she would have to be in the Aquarius/Pisces cusp.

Then, there’s Milky Rose.

What in God’s name am I to do with this one?!  I mean, she should be filed under “Ophiuchus” since its element is a mystery. Although, Ophiuchus is a snake bearer. Thus, does that make a snake bearer an earth type???

Bottom Line: this is a clusterfuck
