The last cry of faith
Tumblr media
One shot- Optimus Prime Part. 2
The reader is human
Human x Cybertronian
Enjoy! I'm sorry if any translation is wrong. My first language is not english. This fic was originally written in spanish. Please understand (o´・_・)っ
Part 1 is now available:
I was afraid, afraid that I would make a mistake and not find the right words to save my own species, so I took one more deep breath and wiped away my tears before we boarded Bumblebee.
"I only have one chance, don't I?" My heart was beating hard and fast. I didn't know what I was going to face.
It was a huge burden trying to start a conversation with a normal person for me, now here I am trying to take on a responsibility as big as talking to the leader of the Autobots to try to mediate and save both species.
"Let's do this, Bee." I bravely took the wheel and let him drive.
__________________________
What if I make a mistake in my words? What will I say? What abandoned me and made me feel terrible in her absence? That I got depressed believing that he wouldn't remember me anymore?
I thought about my arguments over and over again, rephrasing my words so as not to fall into impulsiveness or anger.
Quintessa would take full control over Cybetron if Unicron perished, they explained to me that if Optimus did not give the direct order, it would be too late to avoid changing the fate of both planets. Lennox tried to mediate with Optimus before but he refused to do so.
When he heard my name he avoided doing any action that he denied to know that he needed me there, that's why they came to look for me.
I was breathing hard because my anxiety was bigger than my own height, Brains moved to the copilot's seat to try to calm me down and Bumblebee played relaxing music to dissipate my nerves as we arrived at the base. The trip didn't last long.
I could see the figure of Lennox and his team around the base and they spread out when Bee parked.
This was the moment where I asked for a little faith and luck for myself.
If there's someone looking out for me on the other side, it's time for you to do your job and back me up a little this time.
I looked at the two little autobots before they got out and I unbuckled my seatbelt and my hands were shaking. Lennox noticed my presence and opened the door for me from the outside.
I looked at him with teary eyes and hugged him. My soul needed human warmth and Lennox was able to give it to me; Even when he followed orders our affection was mutual.
"I thank you for coming." He caressed my back with his hands. —But there is someone who needs to talk to you in there.
—I know.
Our hug ended and he accompanied me to the entrance of the base, I could feel his men's gaze on us as if we were the only solution to this and I entered alone.
This was the moment I had been waiting for all this time and my nerves were on edge. Still I was determined to do it and I walked.
As the soles of my shoes hit the ground with my steps, I heard metallic movements on the other side of the base. Optimus knew he was here.
I didn't have time to fix my image, I was a mess and so was my face after crying so much, I only faced my fate when I saw the silhouette of Optimus between the shadows and the subtlety of the moonlight that was reflected in the windows. and in its metal armor.
He turned to see me.
I tried to smile when his optics met my tired eyes.
He could see the sadness in Optimus's features.
—Is this how all this will end? Is this the end of us, Optimus?
Optimus looked away, I think I was too hasty starting that way. I just wanted to follow my soul and say what I wanted because I wanted to hear what he had to say too.
—You had no reason to come, and you decided to do so. "I didn't ask you to do it," Optimus said.
—I came because I thought you needed us to talk about us, about ours. I didn't come to talk about the decisions you make, you are free to do what you want, but this is necessary for both of us.
—It was I who abandoned you, I could have made things turn out differently and they didn't. I will never forgive myself for it.
I wanted to cry, I wanted to yell at him, I wanted to vent about everything he put me through, but I knew I had to refrain from falling into despair.
—I thought I was protecting you by leaving Earth. My absence only brought you more problems, however the choices that your leaders have made by continuing to go against me...—He leaned forward to try to be at my level—are the ones that caused our alliance to immediately end.
—And what about us? —I'm sure when I saw his optics they were much brighter since the last time I saw him. —Wasn't I good enough for you?
Optimus wasn't used to talking about his feelings. Not in front of others and much less when the end of the world is approaching, but we both knew that this was our only opportunity to confess everything we had pending.
—You were more than I would have wanted. You waited for me and I failed you.” Optimus lowered his head. “I thought you would be better off without my presence.”
—Will you only say that? Are you going to lower your head regretting something you didn't even have the audacity to face? —I sought to provoke him to face the feelings he tried so hard to deny. — I was waiting for you for a long time, suffering from seeing you fight, I suffered your death when Fallen appeared and your sudden disappearance when Cemetery Wind and Lockdown were hunting us.
—I tried to get away from you so that you could have a simple human life outside of the risks that came with being by my side. —He tried to explain himself. —I promised that I would protect you at the expense of my spark.
"And I promised you that I would stay by your side no matter what happened!" I shouted furiously.
—I was afraid of losing you! —She screamed with the same intensity. — I tried to get you to safety when Lockdown shot in your direction that time and I failed in my task, I couldn't stand it because I had thought the worst. — Her voice sounded broken. — I couldn't.
—Were you afraid of losing me? Well, you're going to lose me for the second time if Quintessa manages to fry us after you make the worst decision you've ever made in your long life, Optimus!
The tension in the air worsened when Optimus stood up and turned his back to me.
—If you came with the sole reason of persuading me to change my mind, you are failing in your objective.
—I didn't come to change your opinion, I came to talk to you because you didn't care about me.
She looked at me quickly as if she had offended him and I backed away when she started heading towards me, but I knew she wouldn't hurt me.
—I care more about you than you think, what should I do so you can understand it!?
— Love me with all your strength! Without shame, without denials or objections! Without abandoning me!—I felt my cold tears running down my cheeks when I said that. Inside me I was imploring him to stop being corny but my soul had to say it without stammering.
He was stunned by my request. I think it was too much, but I decided to continue.
—You are the great Optimus Prime! The leader of the free galaxy! Not even so free because he doesn't even have the freedom to be loved!
I felt his gaze on my little existence, a breath of air came out of his mouth and he shook his head.
—I would give anything to love you the way you ask me, but I'm not a human. I am-
—You are Optimus Prime! "The only one I've had the chance to call my own hero in this life because he saved my life!" I interrupted him.
—I am your guardian and I always will be, and no one else will be.
—Then if you want to protect me so much, then do it. Protect me, save me. Save us but don't do it for them...—I was referring to the humans who had hurt us in the past.—Do it for all of us who decided to fight and be by your side. — I paused. —Do it for me, because my faith in you is still intact.
A silence reigned for a few moments.
—We all have something in common in this universe, which unites us. —He continued- But what keeps me alive in this life is you.
Optimus leaned up again and took my chin with his finger as he brought his face closer to mine.
—Do you still have faith in me?
—I never lost her, Optimus! —Something in me made me rush to his face to hug him. My tears fell on the panels of his face. "Never even if my heart stopped beating..." I said sobbing.
He covered me with his hand and pressed my body against his face, as if it were a shield.
It was the first time in a long time that I could feel his embracing and protective warmth.
—I will not let you down or abandon you this time. —He whispered —I promise you...
I felt like the minutes were eternal with his hug.
These had been the best minutes I had spent with him in my entire life, I just prayed that fate would give me the opportunity to have more moments like this.
Only then could I be in front of the Optimus I fell in love with, without fear that he or I would feel judged or regret our union.
"With all my spark," he finished.
_________________________________
I left through the door of that base.
When Lennox saw me I nodded, it was done. Optimus had given the order from his communicator to the autobots to begin the attack plan and save Earth again.
The hatch to the base opened and Optimus emerged in his alt mode waiting for me at the open driver's door.
I closed the door.
—Thank you.— I smiled and he advanced.
Lennox also gave the direct order to follow Optimus' plan and boarded Bumblebee.
After all... There was a small glimpse of light in the darkness and a last cry of faith that changed the destiny of humanity.

Even now, while she walked sadly through that damp and drear garden in the dusk, with everything falling and fading, and turning to decay around her, he might be gladly putting away his law-books after a day of satisfactory toil, and freshening himself up, as he had told her he often did, by a run in the Temple Gardens, taking in the while the grand inarticulate mighty roar of tens of thousands of busy men, nigh at hand, but not seen, and catching ever, at his quick turns, glimpses of the lights of the city coming up out of the depths of the river. He had often spoken to Margaret of these hasty walks, snatched in the intervals between study and dinner. At his best times and in his best moods had he spoken of them; and the thought of them had struck upon her fancy. Here there was no sound. The robin had gone away into the vast stillness of night. Now and then, a cottage door in the distance was opened and shut, as if to admit the tired labourer to his home; but that sounded very far away. A stealthy, creeping, cranching sound among the crisp fallen leaves of the forest, beyond the garden, seemed almost close at hand. Margaret knew it was some poacher. Sitting up in her bedroom this past autumn, with the light of her candle extinguished, and purely revelling in the solemn beauty of the heavens and the earth, she had many a time seen the light noiseless leap of the poachers over the garden-fence, their quick tramp across the dewy moonlit lawn, their disappearance in the black still shadow beyond. The wild adventurous freedom of their life had taken her fancy; she felt inclined to wish them success; she had no fear of them. But to-night she was afraid, she knew not why.
Henry Lennox and the poachers are very different types of people, but Margaret thinks wistfully of both of them here. Or at least, she has in the past. Both times, it seems she was drawn to the freedom of their lifestyles. Henry's studying may be a lot of work, but it's "satisfactory toil" and he can just take these walks on a whim. He seems at his best when he speaks of them, and I think they represent a lot of freedoms she doesn't have. He can make his own schedule, he can take charge of his own life, he can go places and in ways that wouldn't be seen as acceptable or safe for her. His walks are brief urban adventures, marked by people and sound.
The poachers are quiet, and their walks through the night are surely in reality much more driven by need. But Margaret clearly viewed them as having freedom and excitement in their life. A different type than Henry's walks in the city, but the same elements that appeal to her. They make their own success, they go out and explore, they interact with nature in a way that she can't do. We heard her jealousy over the idea of travel and adventure in the beginning, and it's clear that it isn't only far-off adventure and freedom that she is excited by. It's here in multiple local ways too.
Her sudden fear in this chapter is kind of interesting then in the context of her life being changed/dictated to her. She wants to choose to go on an adventure, not to be forced into one by losing her safe and comfortable home. She doesn't want to get locked out of the house at night with things moving in the dark. She doesn't want to move to a busy city full of the noise of so many strangers. As much as she admires these sorts of experiences in theory when other do them by choice, the reality of having them forced upon herself is frightening. At least for now...?

Cooking
Tumblr media
I like food and I like cooking, despite the fact that I am not good at it and I do not do it often.
Often there is no good reason why we enjoy things that we like. But to me, cooking her recipes may be the only way that I can feel connected with my late mom. Maybe it’s because cooking resonates with the ideas that mom used to talk about. Maybe because cooking is the only time when I am not afraid to experiment and do not need to think about failing. I stopped drawing because I was too afraid I would not be able to draw well anymore. I keep writing but it does not make me feel as complete as when I cook. Cooking is the only time when you feel fully alive because you use all of your five senses. ‘It differentiates us from other animal species’, says Michael Pollan.
I am now half way doing my PhD and I was constantly faced with doubts and anxieties. That kind of fear is something that never crosses my mind every time I cook. I make endhog brambang lombok a hundred times and have failed many times, but I feel okay about it. I make sambal from scratch with different combinations of ingredients and composition and many times it doesn’t work, but I do not feel sorry for myself. Maybe because there is no consequence, and in what other ways in your grown-up life can you do something else without having to think about the consequence?
When I learn paper conservation, it feels like when I learn about coffee. Everything connects to each other and you cannot just rely on one thing. Everything is (almost) equal. Sometimes it is about technique, sometimes it is about intuition, but most of the time it is about being open.
When I teach paper conservation, it feels like I teach cooking. You do not only convey information and your students do not need to visualize abstract ideas. The class is real, tactile, and three-dimensional. It is hands-on and is about patience and repetition. It should be clean. It should be natural. Different tools, spices, time, moods, temperatures, humidity, knowledge, and experiences will produce different results. You have to know the objects you are dealing with and acknowledge and respect the culture.
Cooking represents the ideas that I agree with and feel related to: that it is genderless and inclusive. When I want to cook, I do not need to be somebody to do it. Cooking gives you freedom. For Rene Redzepi and Lennox Hastie, grilled veggies are BBQ. For Japanese people, thin slices of beef are BBQ. It is democratic. In Japan I eat sourdough for breakfast because it’s available to me. In the 1970’s my late grandpa created endhog brambang kobis because those are the ingredients he could afford and access.
Cooking makes you aware of your surrounding communities. Cooking makes you aware that capitalism fucks the environment and the animals (including humans). Cooking makes you aware that hunger is more about distribution instead of quantity.
Cooking feels personal, it connects us to our heritage and to our ancestors. There is something about fire and heat, there is something about the smell of soil, it feels that they are part of us, part of our past.
Let’s talk about it later. It is now summer in Susenji, Fukuoka. What can be a better seasonal dinner than a plate of nasi uduk with a side of fried tempe and tofu, kemangi leaves, and sambal made from scratch, and accompanied by a bottle of Corona beer, served in a pre-cooled Duralex glass with ice and a lemon slice?

Basically, courtship was supposed to involve the suitor making himself pleasant to the woman so that she would agree to marry him. Well-off women were supposed to keep financial issues in mind when deciding to give their consent (that is, not agreeing to marry randos who came along that they felt attracted to, but evaluating the incomes, potential inheritances, and social positions of the men who courted them) - but at the same time, it was important to get consent, for a woman to not be totally forced to the altar by her parents.
Nobody except royalty was typically meeting their spouse on the wedding day. (Exceptions existed. Around the same time as the show is set, the 18yo Charles Lennox was pushed into a hasty marriage with the 13yo Sarah Cadogan to cancel her father's gambling debt.) They'd meet each other in society, introduced by mutual acquaintances, and most of the early stages of courtship would just involve conversations at parties or on social calls with other people around, and of course dancing at balls. Once things got more serious, they might aim for privacy and exchange gifts and/or letters. If parents or guardians disapproved of the suitor or the girl being courted, they were expected to stop, and if they felt a particular suitor or girl was a better choice, the girl/suitor was supposed to at least pay some heed to the advice.
Realistically, Stede and Mary would have met before anyone decided they should get married, and their parents would have then pushed them to show a preference for each other and I guess basically puppeted them into a proposal. How many motions Stede would have to go through would probably depend on whether he had competition Mary might seriously accept, but if both of their sets of parents had already agreed that neither of them should look at anyone else, it would still have been pretty much a done deal without a literal "you're getting married to this person I've chosen for you".
@chocolatepot @thelittlelionofvalleyforge
Hello I know you guys like your 18th century history and I am terrible at research and usually don't want to learn things like this but I have a very pressing need to know what a historically accurate courting process would look like for a couple like Stede and Mary. Would they just meet for the first time at their wedding or would Stede have to go through a bunch of absurd motions. I know we mostly saw what the show wanted us to know about them so it literally doesn't matter but I have a pressing desire to know thank you ignore this if you don't have time/don't want to tell me

GOSSIP&DRAMA: ANOTHER ROYAL BABY!
Tumblr media
And another baby! Following the royal scandal almost three years ago, when HRH Katherine Lennox broached the wedding of HRH Viscountess Celia and Sir Benedict Trevelyan, and a hasty union on their part, the couple has taken the plunge in seeking to expand their family.
Through artificial insemination, these women are excited and expecting nothing more and nothing less than a new little prince or princess. After the arrival of HRH Prince Axel, now over 2 1/2 years old and a favorite of the Kildenrian public, the good news reaches the royal family once again.
Added to this wave of good news is the return of our beloved heir, Crown Prince Elliot, who is ending his stay in Tartosa ready to finish his secondary education in his country. However, it will be for a short time that he will remain at home, as he will attend the prestigious Saint Michel boarding school, in the county of Brefbury, along with his cousin HRH Prince Maddox.
To this we must add that, finally, the trial against Sir Phillip of Lennox for the murder of his brother, the late and beloved King Kingsley I, is approaching. This murder is part of a framework of criminal operations that could have seriously endanger the integrity of the entire country. Stay tuned, dear readers, because we will continue to inform you about everything.

╰     ┈     [  saoirse ronan , 23 , cis!female , she/her ]  in the time of dragons , lelia lannister is entering the game of thrones . said to be ebullient + meddlesome we can only hope that is the case as regrettably they are also well known to be hasty + impracticable. when asked about them , people are always reminded of a scrunched-up piece of parchment showcasing the maps of westeros and many of its noble houses, a stack of books with torn out pages and ink spills from underlining significant meanings thrown across a messy room, and the soft hymn of the “rains of castamere” falling from her lips. though they are the lady of casterly rock , their true loyalties lie with house lannister and rumour has it that if given the choice they would support the prince of dragonstone above all else . those of us in the shadows wish them luck and can only hope they will survive what is to come .

partner: n/a.
background
the fickle only love those who are worthy. in the case of lelia lannister, her love came from learning. being the youngest lioness from casterly rock, it is known that the lannisters excel in beauty, strength,  or money. the only aspect that lelia shares with her heritage is the money part. she’d considered herself to be ordinary compared to her nieces and sisters. she’d not excelled in strength either due to the fact that her personality was very naive compared to the courageous men and women of her family lineage.
a babe was brought into this world on a crisp autumn evening after endless hours of labor. she’d been a frail and weak one compared to the likes of her house lannister name. growing up, lelia preferred the company of books over people. instead of dreading her history lessons with her septa, she embraced everything that she had to learn. she’d grew to love for the company of books instead of learning
“a fool” was a common occurrence when describing the fickle thing. her infancy grew up being confined to a bed due to falling health. from her birth, lelia’s lungs were considered _incredibly _weak compared to that of her siblings. she’d have fevers that almost _took _her into the great beyond majority of her infancy. however, like her heritage something strong was built into her veins and she successfully broke the fever each time overcoming it.
over the years, lelia developed the title “the roarless lioness” due to her timid and fickle personality. she hated conflict and was hard to find during tense conversation at casterly rock. a lion’s share of time she could be found in the company of her historic tales stuck in the casterly rock’s immense library. she found comfort in the tales of the targaryen family, she was captivated about the idea of owning a dragon and the thought drove her to endless dreams of wanting to become part of history.
the thought plagued her as the notion of becoming a history maker. her family legacy thrived in the concept of **victory **and **triumph. **yet, the only longing leila had was that for academics. she’d believed that her family name could _get _her there, but the concept of being a women was retched to think..she was only **meant **to be wedded & bedded. she _wish _for a live to where she could instead travel, write the histories of westeros, and could have the **freedom she yearned for. **instead she aged, her dreams were the only think that made her seem reasonable as unrealistic as it seemed for a women--even a lannister one--she was just as roarless as they expected her to be.
in the secrets of her thoughts, she held an oath to for a different life and a different allegiance she wouldn’t dare speak aloud to a soul. her thoughts only plagued herself--and those she kept close to her heart--but the lion could only be tamed so much..until they would fight back, right?

translated plot drop (character names instead of skeleton names) below the cut :)
Tumblr media
♛ Silent compass, anger at dawn  ♛
The evening is in full swing, with no hint of disaster (bar the cheese puffs running out). Although the festivities are inevitably dampened to some, the usual tensions apparent, the atmosphere is light. Who wouldn’t take the chance to forget for just one night, when money is paid in exchange.  The Charon sails the lake, skirting past the lights of the city. A spectacular sight as the passengers head toward a rejuvenated Navy Pier.
(MAIN DECK, INTERIOR) Guests are gathered to witness MICHAEL, DJ booth as their unorthodox stage, as they thank those in attendance. During the speech ANIKA is subtly pulled away by one of their own to investigate a disturbance below deck. Shortly after, a murmur rises from those to the back of the crowd, nearest the deck. Dying to comfortable silence once MICHAEL mentions preparations for a Hallowe’en display.
(BELOW DECK, HALLWAY) A series of masked patrons have traversed the hallways all evening, but none in such uniform procession as this, nor so heavily armed. One group of five to the left and the other to the right. In turn the ten bar nearly every door below deck. Beyond the thresholds of those left, they find;
THEO, and CAT, with SERA in the ballroom. VINNY, AZRA, and NIC, with JASPER in the crew bathrooms. ALP, ISMAEL, and ISAAC, with LUNA in the billiards room.
Without fail, the operation manages to extricate SERA, JASPER, and LUNA, from their respective rooms. Before those doors are then locked with the remaining still inside.
Soon after, ANIKA finds themselves thrown into a cage with wolves. As they gain their bearings, they discover they’re with EMIR and VAL in the locked galley. Knives available for all the back-stabbings they desire.
(MAIN DECK, EXTERIOR) Scheduled to match MICHAEL’s speech, LEX is waiting on deck for INES. Concealed by a bulkhead themselves, they don’t see the hasty retreat caused by the approach of ZEPHYR, who also misses as INES heads into a stairwell.  The remaining pair are at a stalemate until they hear applause to mark the end of sycophantic lullaby.
(MAIN DECK) MICHAEL invites the guests to the outside deck, so they might all witness a Hallowe’en treat.  LEX, and ZEPHYR, head to join REMINGTON at the front of the crowd. Expectantly viewing the body dangling from the gallows. It’s only when they are directed to look toward Navy Pier, that they realise. As ZEPHYR notes the costume, the mask, and the build of the asphyxiated corpse is that of SERA, a scream is heard from inside.  SIERRA heads toward the sound to find LIENA is there first, ushering away the scared bartender. In one of the stalls, awkwardly hunched, an overdosed corpse that could be identified as JASPER.
(BELOW DECK, HALLWAY) The group of ghouls have descended into the bowels of the ship or replaced masks to join with the crowd above, leaving the hallway clear for LENNOX to note the suspicious chains on several doors. They can’t hear anything from the other side, but set about breaking into a bedroom. When ROE finds them inside, they’re standing over a hacked corpse in a bed, easily believed to be LUNA. Estimating a time of death set days before, ROE is leaving with LENNOX when they’re set upon. Hoods over their heads before much damage can be done, they’re dragged down to the engine room.
(ENGINE ROOM) As soon as LENNOX is freed, unhindered by the hood, they attack one of the four ghouls in the room. Distraction enough for SERA to join. ROE, JASPER, and LUNA (unencumbered by their earlier costumes) attempt to assist. They are stilled by a gunshot and a spray of blood.
(MAIN DECK/BELOW DECK) Attempting to cut the body down from the gallows, LEX slips as the yacht shudders to a halt. All on deck now aware this is not the light in the dark the messiah had planned. The fireworks display is lit on Navy Pier, igniting the sky as the Charon is plunged into darkness, chaos.  ISEK, finally free of RAFAL’s gaze, follows along with EMMETT as the two navigate the main deck with only moonlight. They are followed downstairs by one of the ghouls.  Hearing their approach, INES works faster to pick the lock of the galley, slipping into the dark kitchen.
♞ An unholy jargon in the judgement seat ♞
(ENGINE ROOM) Three of the ghouls escape the engine room. The fourth is left with their captives. The water sealed door locked and barred to prevent escape. The blood accounted for by the wound from SERA’s brunt with a pistol. The bullet had grazed JASPER, rather unfortunately lodging in a piece of the engine. The fault had caused a safety shut-off, but not without fumes leaking from the tanks into the vacuum sealed engine room. Not long until those inside lose the remaining oxygen and their ability to attempt escape.

Kitchen Experiments
Along with the streaming mystery series and similar programs we’ve been indulging in we have watched a few food shows, and it has led us to shaking things up in our own kitchen.
We started with the latest edition of Netflix’s “Street Food,” which this time is all based in U.S. cities: Los Angeles, Portland, New York City, New Orleans, Oahu, and Miami. From carnitas to vegan pork belly to pizza and beyond.
After that we caught up on the latest “Chef’s Table,” which focused on pizza and serious cooks from around the world, starting with Chris Bianco, a name we recognized from Arizona, and including Gabriele Bonci, Ann Kim, Franco Pepe, Yoshihiro Imai, and Sarah Minnick.
Once we finished those episodes, we dipped back into the “Chef’s Table” series on barbecue, delving into the smoky, juicy world of cooked pork and featuring chefs and pitmasters Tootsie Tomantez, Lennox Hastie, Rodney Scott, and Rosalia Chay Chuc.
Rodney Scott does his thing in Charleston, South Carolina, which gives us another reason to visit that city when we next go east to see family. Sure, we have relatives in the Charleston area, but James Beard award-winning barbecue might be more enticing than a few relatives.
As mentioned in an earlier post, Nancy has hauled out the 2015 edition of the best recipes from “Bon Appétit” magazine, and we first enjoyed some Indian-spiced chicken. Last week we feasted for four days on a black bean and chorizo stew that warmed our palates.
This afternoon we took an altogether different approach to chicken, mixing ground meat with spices and cashews and garam masala to create meatballs that we will stir into a nest of angel hair pasta for dinner. Our initial tasting of a meatball was promising.
There will be more to come, and if we meet with more success, I’ll relay a few more details in this space, perhaps even providing the actual recipe we have enjoyed.

Ishara; Season three, Chapter seven
Ishara suited you up for battle, pressing a gentle kiss to your lips before she pulled away to look at you. “Alright.” Ishara sighed out, giving you a small smile. You stood, and took her hands in yours. “This time, let’s not fall into a portal, alright?” You said jokingly, and Ishara let out a laugh. “I shall try, but I cannot promise you anything.” Ishara leaned forward, pressing another kiss to your lips. She stayed like that for a moment, but pulled away, meeting your eyes once more. “My love,” She began, and you felt your heart thump in your chest at that. “No matter what happens today, I want you to stay strong.” Ishara gave a reassuring smile. “I’ll try.” You said, then you and Ishara walked hand in hand to the meeting room.
Reiner and the other council members were discussing battle plans. Ishara got their attention the moment she walked in. “Mother!” Iseul ran to Ishara, hugging his mother tightly. All the retainers were there. After a short, heartfelt reunion, it was time to resume to battle planning. “I shall hold her at bay and attempt to distract her, then someone can make the finishing blow.” Ishara said. “I believe I can distract her long enough to leave an opening, as we are more evenly matched.” Everyone nodded. “My retainers will take care of the generals individually, and I shall battle Magnus.” Reiner said. “Me and the dwarven council member will be trying to locate the King whilst the battle goes on.” The Faerie said. It seemed like a solid plan. “Uhm, what do I do?” You asked. Reiner looked at you. “Do you think you could try to defend Ishara from other attackers?” He asked. You nodded. “Good. That sounds like the plan then.” Reiner concluded. Iseul smirked. “Now, let us be good hosts and not keep the Witch waiting too long.” Iseul said, and you smiled at him, giving him a quick pat on the shoulder. “Let’s go give her hell.” You said, and you all made an affirmation noise.
On the battlefield, things were already chaos. The Witch Queen’s forces had the upper hand, but mostly due to the generals. Now that the retainers and Reiner were here, it was a more even match. You and Ishara made your way through the fray, and Ishara easily deflected every soldier attempting to attack her, swatting them away like flies. You followed behind her, staying close, having to take the occasional swing at anyone who got too close. Finally, you made it close enough to the Witch Queen, and she noticed you. “Queen Ishara! I thought you were still on vacation! How was your stay?” She asked in a mocking tone. Ishara didn’t answer, and just began summoning vines from the ground. The Witch sighed. “You have no desire to make small talk? Pity. Oh well, this will have to go faster than I hoped then.”
You stood back to back with Ishara for a while, fighting off anyone who came close. You were able to see the retainers, all of which were giving the generals hell. Altea was getting the upper hand of Helena, Reiner already had Magnus on the ground, August and Iseul had cornered Alain and Jinhai, while Saerys was fighting other soldiers… You silently cheered them on, knowing they were all incredibly capable. You looked over your shoulder, seeing the Witch Queen struggle against Ishara’s power, while Ishara herself was hardly breaking a sweat. When you turned back, you noticed Lennox making his way closer to you and Ishara from your left. That little weasel… You didn’t want to give him the chance to get close to Ishara, so you ran off to attack him directly. He noticed you, and scowled. “Do you never leave her side?” Lennox asked, and you swung your sword. He deflected with his knives, trying to get in closer combat. You didn’t let that happen, and always kept him farther than arms length, so you had the advantage. Lennox was getting frustrated, making more hasty moves. You needed to get back to Ishara, Lennox wasn’t the only one who’d try to attack Ishara. You waited for an opening. As Lennox’s frustration grew, he made a wrong move. Check mate.
You slashed your sword down into his shoulder, and kneed him in the ribs as hard as you could, knocking him to the ground. You quickly disarmed him, and turned to go back to Ishara. “No!” The Witch Queen shouted. You looked up, and she was looking directly at you. “I’m getting real tired of your interference, girl.” She raised her arm, ice collecting in her hand. Shit. You raised your shield and prepared to dodge as she threw it. Right as you noticed her muscles tense to throw, you felt something shove you, and you toppled over.
You hit the ground hard, and it knocked the wind out of you. You struggled back up to your feet, your shield still on your arm, yough the impact made you drop your sword. You heard a grunt of pain from next to you, and you turned.
