Testing The Waters - Riyola Keevan/Lenka Mok
A/N: Day 23 aka 3 for @domaystic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The chance to take a poll on if they helped the resistance or not was one Riyola took carefully. Sammie had been on his way out the room before she made the choice, even as she knew the man would want to help. Gaya and Ouannii had been willing to help her and then came Lenka.     Lenka who looked at her in silence for a long time, her voice soft when she finally spoke. The room falls quiet as she does, everyone aware hers is the choice that will make or break the option to help.    “Chewie is your dearest friend, an old friend.... of course we have to help.”    Riyola’s smile is reward enough and Lenka waits for the others to leave before she moves to squeeze Riyola’s shoulder gently.    “You can count on me... Captain.”

@youcantrewind reminded me that I had not yet posted my fic line for the week, so here it is:
The force with which Riyola slammed her hands on the table propelled her to her feet, “Do you think endangering passengers is something I enjoy doing? I was doing what I had to, and so was Lenka.”
anyway I haven’t written anything new on this fic since starting this challenge so I may have screwed myself with this one—

Man, that last night was bittersweet. They’re really good at connecting, you’re sad to know you’re done talking to them. Especially Lenka- my adoration for SK (two miniatures of different sizes and trailing them whenever they were out) really got us talking early on and it just continued throughout, it was really nice.

Oh and the mortifying moment my mother told Gaya I was a huge fan and to find me and she found me while I was drawing her. But I mean it was a good enough drawing that Croy wanted it so-

Elizameera's relationships with the Halcyon crew and the First Order crew (inspired by @wingerondeck, the photo below is not mine!)
Tumblr media
Riyola Keevan: Elizameera did not get along with the captain at first. They butt heads because they were both headstrong and Elizameera did not want to be on the ship. However, once Riyola got through to Elizameera and Elizameera accepted help, they developed a mentor-student bond. They always defend each other no matter what. Elizameera's children call Riyola their "Auntie Riyola."
Lenka Mok: Lenka absolutely adores Elizameera and sees her as a daughter. They had a very positive connection when Elizameera first arrived on the Halcyon and are always looking out for each other. Lenka is like a second mother to Elizameera and helps her feel relieved of the burden of taking care of her brother Temrys alone. To Elizameera's children, Lenka is "Grandma Mok."
Samuel (Sammie): Samuel "Sammie" is Elizameera's husband, so clearly they have an incredibly loving and close relationship. They are very much in love and everyone on the Halcyon knows it. They are in competition with the rest of the couples on the Halcyon and beat them out easily. Everyone is jealous, but they are not witness to Elizameera and Sammie's petty arguments behind closed doors, how they sometimes struggle to communicate, and how their differences in parenting styles lead to conflict. No couple is perfect. When they first met, they did not quite get along and it took awhile for her to warm up to him, but they are very much in sync now.
SK-62O: SK-62O is one of Elizameera's closest companions. The droid was one of the first passengers on the Halcyon to befriend Elizameera and was always on her side. In turn, she was always there for them. Elizameera is also very passionate about droid rights and was part of the plan to get SK unbolted when they were caught by the First Order.
D3-09: D3-09 is another close companion of Elizameera's. She was very helpful to Elizameera and Temrys when they first arrived and continued to be a wonderful friend to them throughout their journey. She would keep them informed, read them bedtime stories, and sing them lullabies when they could not sleep. She still does the same for them now, as well as for Elizameera's children.
Raithe Cole: Elizameera is fond of Raithe. At first, she did not trust him at all, nor did he trust her, but over time he grew to feel protective of her and developed a fatherly affection for her. Because Lenka cares about Elizameera so much, Raithe cares about her, too. He can also relate to her because he had to grow up at a young age and admires how she turned to something honorable rather than being a scoundrel like him. She brings out the best in him and in turn, he gives her whatever guidance he can offer. Now, her children call him Papa Raithe.
Gaya: Elizameera always admired Gaya and how she became not only an inspiration to her race, but also many others. Elizameera loved Gaya's music, and has always been grateful for her because she server as the inspiration for her brother (who has a huge crush on Gaya) to pursue music. When Elizameera and Temrys actually met Gaya, Gaya made it a point to include them in things and acknowledged their talents. She is very fond of both siblings and they both adore her. Elizameera's children are big fans of Gaya as well, and the whole family always gets VIP tickets to her concerts.
Sandro Alamander Sandro: Elizameera was immediately captivated by Sandro when she met him. Not only did he look cool, but he was so friendly, full of positive energy, he could sing, AND he could play guitar! She was in awe!!! She was so starstruck that she activately avoided him out of anxiety. Ultimately, he approached her when he heard her singing and they did a duet together for the passengers on the Halcyon. They are still best friends to this day. Her children call him Uncle Sandro.
Ouanii: Ouanii was one of Elizameera's first friends aboard the Halcyon. She encouraged Elizameera when she was feeling insecure about becoming a Jedi and would always treat Elizameera like her best friend. Elizameera also encouraged Ouanii when she was lacking motivation for her music. Elizameera also tried to set Ouanii up with Sandro, and Ouanii tried to set Elizameera up with Sammie. Both were successful. They are always supportive of each other. Elizameera's children call Ouanii "Auntie Ouanii".
Harman Croy: Harman is Elizameera's secondary rival. Harman is more of a rival to Elizameera's mother Juliesme, but Elizameera is going to have beef with anyone who did her mother wrong. Though Elizameera intensely dislikes Harman, he has no problem with her and is actually quite fond of her, though no one knows why. Her children adore him for and always want to see him for some reason, but Elizameera and Sammie will not let them near him.
The Stormtroopers: No one really knows where Elizameera and the Stormtroopers stand with each other. She seems to like messing with them and they very clearly amuse her. The Stormtroopers give no indication of their exact feelings towards Elizameera, but they clearly dislike it when she or anyone related to her comes around. Her husband has a very bad reputation among the Stormtroopers, (they still haven't gotten that suit back!!!), and no one knows where the Stormtroopers went after the First Order disembarked. One thing is for sure: Elizameera and the Stormtroopers are not fond of each other at all.

Trouble On The Horizon - Riyola Keevan/Lenka Mok, Captain Phasma/Nastia Unamo
A/N: A new fic for @flashfictionfridayofficial
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At first Captain Keevan thinks they’ve escaped. Croy is gone, they are free of his company... but then she sees it. Captain Phasma’s ship, the woman striding towards them having appeared on the horizon line.     She wants, deep down, to flee, but she knows running isn’t going to work, so she stays, sitting quietly as she watches Lenka duck away, hiding herself from view, content to let the Captain handle what is coming.    Phasma comes aboard whilst the crew stays in their cabins, Riyola moving closer slowly, only when beckoned for. She knows, deep down, that this could end badly, surprised by the woman’s quiet request. She needs to protect someone dear to her and she wants, almost demands, to hide her on board with Keevan.    Nastia Unamo, when Keevan meets her, is small, slim and looks more than a little traumatised. Lenka emerges once she’s sure it’s safe, finding herself smiling at the way Keevan takes care of the smaller, tender woman.     Phasma follows them for a while, then leaves. It’s only later when they see Phasma on the horizon again that Keevan admits she thinks the woman may be redeemable. Phasma collapses once she’s inside, the doors lock tight and Keevan does all she can to ensure that Phasma is safe and well.     It’s a strange new life for all of them but the ship is empty and Phasma will heal better with Unamo by her side. Lenka befriending the slightly more shy woman easily. It’s accidental, but Keevan has to admit it’s nice to have new friends.

The tale of “New Beginnings” 2.0 (And my grand plan for reviving this blog)
Back in 2022/2023, I put out the first two chapters of a starcruiser fic called New Beginnings. It was my first time ever attempting a multi-chapter fic. (Okay second but I was 12 the first time so that doesn’t count)
Anyway. It scared the hell out of me. And because I was scared, I didn’t do it properly. Here’s what I mean:
Those who know me know that I’ve always been more comfortable writing scripts than writing prose. But the reality is those are two very, very different animals and need to be treated as such. When I first published New Beginnings, I wrote it like a script - and I even say so in the fic description. I think my exact words were “don’t take it too seriously” which was my way of saying “I’m intentionally not trying.” There was a little bit of spite in there - I was writing so much for my classes that I wanted something low pressure, and something where I was allowed to not care too much if it was bad. But in freeing myself, I actually constrained myself.
There was a story below the surface of New Beginnings, the one that I actually wanted to tell, but doing that meant approaching the piece in a completely different way, a way that I honestly did not think I could do. So I stopped. I never made it past chapter 2.
Earlier this year, I decided to give it another try. And this time I was going to put in actual effort to make this the story I wanted to tell.
I know it sounds like I’m being very hard on myself, and I don’t mean any of what I’m saying to be directed towards anyone but me. What I’m trying to get at here is that I sometimes need to remind myself to recognize when I’m standing in my own way. That yes, trying is scary, but half-assing it is even worse. And I know I’m talking about voluntary, fun work here, but it’s still good practice regardless.
So. All that being said, here’s the plan for keeping myself accountable and not letting this fic fall away again:
Every week, just once a week, I’m challenging myself to post something from the fic in progress. A line. Two lines. A paragraph if I’m feeling that spicy. But I have to post something. If I don’t, I give you, yes, you, permission to poke me, gently remind me, lightheartedly make fun of me, meme me, get my attention in any way you see fit. If I’m gonna get excited about this fic again, I think it’ll help if I bring you along with me.
So to start us off, here’s my first excerpt from “New Beginnings” 2.0 (now retitled “Our Lady H”)
“Oh, yes. As far as Chandrila Star Lines is concerned, we are on strike two.”
Lenka mulled over her Captain’s words, “and what happens if we reach strike three?”
Riyola took both of Lenka’s hands, raising them up to chest level and squeezing them tight, “We consider piracy.”

I absolutely love the “little person in the big world” story thread in the Star Wars universe. Even though I grew up with a mother who adored Star Wars and watched the movies often enough, I only recently found my own way into the fandom. What also appeals to me is not the big flashy stories centered on politics and lightsaber battles, but rather the smaller, quiet stories of characters who are making ripples in the galaxy. Maybe those ripples will turn into mighty waves. Maybe not. But regardless, they matter.
Safe to say that this is one of the big reasons I had such a reaction to the Galactic Starcruiser, even though I have yet to go on my first cruise. Fundamentally, the story on the cruise is built around the idea of the passengers themselves making ripples. And, delightfully, we have a set of new characters who are not larger-than-life, but rather small in their roles, and mighty in their own personal goals and motivations. The Halcyon characters can only accomplish so much on their own. They need to work together—with each other, and by recruiting helpers among the passengers. Even though it’s certainly a draw to see characters like Chewbacca and Rey, for me, I’m glad that much of the plot is driven by characters we’re only just getting to know.
To touch on the Rogue One point—in my ignorance, I was so excited about that movie because it wouldn’t feature any Jedi. Regular people fighting the good fight. Excellent. Wonderful. Sign me up. I had no idea that the motley crew of rebels who delivered the Death Star plans to the rebellion all died. OOP. That was my bad. I left the theater feeling in awe of the story-telling, but also feeling depressed and definitely not in the mood to ever pick up that movie again. It’s not the movie, it’s me. I just can’t do tragedies lol. With that said, I learned more about the kind of SW stories I do enjoy—and maybe Galactic Starcruiser is my favorite because there’s so much hope for all the characters involved in this bubble of time. As a fan, I have the ability, and perhaps, the luxury, to imagine they’re all going to be okay after the events of the cruise.
Riyola will continue to be an incredible captain—taking care of her passengers but also continuing to fight the First Order. Lenka and SK-620 will reunite someday, SK brimming with Resistance stories to share (maybe they even met the heroic R2!). Raithe and Gaya make strides in their fight for Ryloth, with Gaya climbing the galactic charts after each new single releases. Sammie lives his dream of joining the Resistance, whether he continues to serve on the Halcyon or finds another path in. Ouannii and Sandro take the galaxy by storm with their music. And OF COURSE, Harman Croy defects, and either finds his own little corner of the galaxy to start a new, meaningful life, or becomes a rather zealous member of the Resistance. The Saja continue to awaken latent Force-sensitivity in the people they meet, who may in turn go on to tip the scales of the battle between the Resistance and the First Order.
Now, of course, this is just one take. Anything can happen. But I’m so glad that the cruise is set up the way it is, so we can imagine what will happen next (with that said, I would love to see the Halcyon characters pop up in other SW media. What a dream).
Anyway, the story of a collective effort—of many becoming one to restore hope and push forward—is simply one of the best types of stories around. I’m glad we’ve been getting more and more of that within Star Wars.
Thursday Thoughts: Why I Like Star Wars
Star Wars is a lot of different things. Most stories are. There are always many different reasons to like something, and many different ways to describe the thing, especially when that thing has had forty-five years to grow and change across every storytelling medium known to humankind.
So I’m reluctant to use the first opening I came up with for this blog post. I wanted to say, “Star Wars is, at its best…” and then complete that sentence with the thing that I believe makes Star Wars, Star Wars. The thing that makes me enjoy this franchise most, the thing that I believe a great Star Wars story needs. While it’s true that this thing is what makes Star Wars its best for ME, for someone else, it might be something else. It might be the legendary conflict between good and evil. It might be the space battles, or the lightsabers, or the aliens. All of these things are valid answers for what is essential to a Star Wars story.
But for ME, a Star Wars story is, at its best, a story about small people playing a part in big events.
