when i say the perfect movie length is 90min im an enlightened scholar criticizing the recent trend of not being able to correctly pace films resulting in 120min of what couldve been an email with no aesthetic value either to justify it. when people say "i cant watch 2h of the same thing" they are barbarous tiktokphiles incapable of being interested in smth for more than 5min unable to reason and that should be put to death on the stake

I see a lot of us scared that 90 min would not be enough to tell the end. But it's the length of a movie, remember that.
We already have the characters introduced, the whys and hows.
It's not what we want, yes, but it can be what we need.
We need Aziraphale and Crowley to reconcile, we need to watch the stop of the second coming (with the demise of the Metatron) and we need the cottage.
It's POSSIBLE in 90 min.
Of course we would have eat anything that would have been given to us. But we just need a end, even if it's not how we want it.
Need vs want is hard, I know, and I'm sorry for those who feel betray again, I understand, truly.
If it can help you, look what kind of movie can be done in 90min, the range of emotion and storytelling can be done in 90min and think that saison 1 and 2 is already more.
We'll survive this, we survived worse.
Be brave and you're all loved!

okay so how did no one tell me that episodes 6x02 and 6x03 are straight up a full length movie?????? How the fuck did we go from a typical 9-1-1 episode of Buck trying to find the secret of happiness and Hen studying for finals to an 90min mystery movie thats also a beautiful exploration of character and the best thing I've ever seen??????

Why does it happen once a year? I'm guessing it's a tv series(??). Does it get a new season regularly every year or..?
lmao
So Tatort is a very old german tradition crime tv show, usually each episode is a full story and can be watched separately/individually. But there's a Tatort for different states/cities in germany and they each have their own characters and storylines that run throughout all the specific cities episodes. I'm not an expert cause I only watch Tatort Saarbrücken (i never watch tv otherwise to be exact) but some cities get more than one episode a year, Saarbrücken being in Saarland, one of the smallest and most neglected states, they only get enough money and screentime for one episode a year. Notice when I say episode it's still 90min, so a full length film.
Maybe check back to the comments on this so some nice germans can elaborate a little more on that!

I think it's less that people don't go for walks elsewhere and more that it's a huge part of German culture. cause Germans are like 'it's raining? sunny? snowing? all walking weather. on a date? let's go for a walk. a family trip? let's go for a walk. on the beach? let's walk!' and also the length of a walk. like when I go on a 'short' walk that can mean anything between 15min and a little over 1hour. I live in the UK now and I have chronic illnesses, so I can't walk very long anymore (90min tops) and I've met up with friends in the UK for a walk as like a proper activity, and was really worried I wouldn't be able to do it but it was just like 1hour?? and I was so confused?? like if my mom says 'let's go for a walk today' as like a proper activity for the day, back home in Bavaria, that means we're walking for like 2h minimum and there's multiple woods, fields and steep hills involved.
(referring to this post)
yeah that sounds like it matches my experiences from having lived abroad! Walks yes, but usually not that long. Or you go for walks with a specific goal in mind (like a cafe or something like that) rather than just walking for the sake of walking

Found this post again, and we need to make a correction.
It was >90mins. We rambled for 90 minutes (aka the entire length of the album cover-to-cover)

Now that streaming is the norm and "most" live action shows are like 8-10 eps it seems like public opinion has flipped and everyone is clamoring for the return to 22 episode seasons. And my hot take is that I disagree. For one thing, a lot of shows that went for 25-26 episode seasons suffered from serious bloat. (seriously, so many shows would have benefitted from tighter stories w fewer eps. even monster of the week shows)
The plots became convoluted, character development was retconned. There really aren't that many shows that can be said to have a perfect multi-season run.
And the actors (AND CREW!!) were overworked and underpaid for the amount of labor they performed. 10-12 hour work days are the norm, and 14 hour work days are not uncommon, and that's fucking dangerous for people who then have to drive home at 4 am when the shooting location was an hour from their home. For nine months straight.
I get that sometimes 10 episodes isn't enough. But I would still rather have 10 really good episodes than 22 mediocre ones. Shows being canceled after one or two seasons is annoying, but changing the length of seasons wouldn't remedy that either. That's a network/streaming company problem.
(Now maybe writers have the opposite problem than they used to, where instead of having to rush to fulfill an order for a 25 episode season, they don't get picked up for a second season before they can complete the story and they're limited to 10 eps).
People are saying that shorter seasons means less work for cast & crew, but honestly often times it's the same amount of work. TV shoots still can go for 6-9 months even for a limited series run. (Evidence: My SO of 7 yrs is a loader currently working on a limited series for Netflix), so those problems I mentioned about crew safety aren't even entirely gone. The only way to really fix that is better union contracts imo.
So initially I thought to propose something like 15 episode seasons as a compromise. Enough time to develop characters, get a solid storyline or two in, and deliver that sweet sweet content we all crave. Except the more I think about it, the issue is never really the length of the show, is it? If good storytellers are given the freedom and resources they need, it doesn't matter if its twenty two 45min eps or ten 60-90min eps.
So instead of people deluding themselves that they actually miss the halcyon days of network TV, we should all keep complaining about the AMPTP and supporting the WGA, SAG, and IATSE.

More films should be around an hour and a half. I am so sorry but Beaux is afraid did not need to be 3 hours long. Like what’s wrong with a little 90min horror movie. You can still say profound things in 90mins and under in the world of film. Btw I loved Beaux is afraid but it was just a really uncomfortable length of time in the theater. But I had to take pee breaks and refill breaks and I hate doing that in the middle of a movie but with beaux I felt like I had to.

I was wondering, some people call SP specials "movies", bc they're longer than regular episode. But is it even correct? Bigger, Longer & Uncut was over an hour long, the specials are only over 40 minutes 🤔
Though you can say the covid specials count as one movie together, bc of the overarching plot I guess. But the rest of the special episodes are, well, episodic, just like normal episodes. They're just longer.
Yeah the episodic specials are not movies. They don’t even reach tv movie length which I’m pretty sure is 90mins long. Don’t exactly know why some people call them movies.

So my digging in filmography continues...
Again I watched a movie I never thought I would touch, Ford v Ferrari. Car races bore me to tears like most of sports (minus volleyball). And yet, guess what kept me glued to screen till 1.30 on Friday night. I've since then listened to some reviews with Christian Bale and Matt Damon (they are nice to listen to together) and even 90min material of "the making of", because YT decided to play it next.
I have one general thought after diving into movies recently (GOOD movies). I watch them, I enjoy them, I get invested in stories of the characters - and not once I catch myself wondering "oh, is this character plot driven, or is it just the makers ticking off whatever diversity list they have to tick." I don't wonder if there is a woman added because whatever. I remember a nice officer and a good friend of a main character and I don't think mentioning he's black is something I need to underline. He's a character and I felt sorry when they had to part ways with the main one.
Maybe I was starved for good stuff after enduring shit like Rings of Power or Netflix's Witcher. Maybe I was tired of rainbow puking CGI that doesn't make me "believe" in stuff I watch for one single moment. Maybe it's because of that recent policy of shoving bad quality products (in terms of logic, storytelling character arcs) and then saying fans don't like them because of skin color of this or that character. Maybe it is because I watch "the making of", see the lengths they went on to make things as real as possible and I realise "yeah, so that's why it wasn't off putting by CGI puke. Because it was actually shot on real location". Maybe because there are tiny details in those movies that the makers remembered about and the final result is consistent, instead of giant plot holes.
I feel like I'm more inclined to believe actors recalling the project afterwards and saying that it was awesome to make, when the final result shows both the effort and the chemistry between their characters, than I am inclined to believe someone saying they are "so excited" (I'm allergic to this word now) for the upcoming season/sequel, when the stuff they already produced was crap.

I’m truly intrigued and obsessed with Harry Potter. I know I’m so late to the party but, oh well, here we are now. By nature I’m a sleepy person lol. Sitting in a movie; watching a move longer than 90mins needs a nap in between! 😂
Something has to really capture my attention to sit through anything! Shows, movies, everything. But that’s another story for a different day. I say all that to say this. I allowed the length of those movies to shy me away from watching the Harry Potter series.
Fortunately, I have a highly intelligent and loving girlfriend who deals with my chronic sleepiness lol. Her level of knowledge on movies and music is beyond comprehension sometimes, in my opinion. She suggested we watch Harry Potter and I fell asleep on a few of the movies.. a couple o f times but she was patient. So much patience. She replayed them over again and something clicked!
Now, I’m invested. I want a Harry Potter wand for Christmas and the entire book series. That is all :*

Re: The six episode thing — I’m not 100% sure, but I’m almost positive this was something brought over from England. I think a lot of series over there were short on episodes — like Sherlock’s 3 episode seasons — but the episodes themselves vary in length. Sherlock’s eps were around 90min. When I was over there for an extended period of time, I noticed episodes aren’t locked on time lengths like they are here.
Idk. Maybe American writers just haven’t adjusted yet and struggle to fit the right amount of content into the time allotted.
Well damn like if British shows are six episodes and American shows are 22 episodes can we meet somewhere in the middle!! Especially when it’s a limited series Like at least give it enough time to build a plot!
