Lemon Plant Dance 🍋🌱

I made this design a while ago; the idea of drawing a lemon plant with a face seemed funny to me so I sketched one up and finalised the design in Illustrator. I originally drew the plant on a random desk but I wasn’t satisfied with the composition. Instead I thought it might be more fun to make a little animation loop focusing on getting the plant to do a little dance 💃

With the animation itself I converted the main body of the plant into a shape layer in After Effects. This would allow me to manipulate the anchor points along the path of the body to move in different directions. That took a bit of adjusting since I didn’t have full control over how the anchor points moved; sometimes I would have to add in an extra keyframe or two. The leaves and head were pretty simple to animate as their own shapes. For the final touches I added a wave warp effect with some random light flickers to give it a glitchy, retro screen aesthetic 📺

Those awful fungus gnats were still bothering my Lemon gang.. So I decided to refresh the soil as a last resort. The two plants needed to be re-potted to pots with better drainage anyway, but I preferred waiting till spring. I cleaned as much of the old soil off the big root balls as possible and continued to put them in plastic nursery pots with drainage holes and fresh well-draining soil. Those inner pots fit perfectly in the glazed white planters in the windowsill and I put some pebbles at the bottom to make sure excess water can flow away. To hide the edges of the nursery pots, I placed some beautiful black pebbles on top of the soil. Finally placed a pebble tray with water as well, to raise the air-humidity around the plants. I love pebbles.

We made some lemonade and the baby wanted to plant the seeds and try to grow some lemon trees. The result of his efforts was two lemon tree sproutlings added to our indoor garden. More than a week ago I watered Lemon I & III with a brew from cigarette buds as a possible treatment for my fugus gnats problem. With result: they had disappeared. Unfortunately, last week, I spotted a couple of them flying around again. So now I’m trying the cinnamon treatment. Smells a lot better than cooked cigarette buds as well.

I covered the top layer of the soil with grinded cinnamon and I’m letting the soil dry out until next weekend. By that time, I’ll water it with a brew from grinded cinnamon to top it off. Hopefully the gnats will stay away after that.

Scratching the back of his head, Vista looked at the paper on his desk, unsure what to do with it. Was this a serious thing? He'd heard that a few others had recieved an application for Valentines and he did find it a rather cute way of asking someone out.

Was this one really for him or was it misplaced? Well, he better find out. Anyway, he wouldn't mind spending a day with Sho, but if she would want someone else that was fine too. He just wanted her to be happy. Deciding to confront her, he took the application and went on a search for her.

"I will definitely take her out for ice cream, either today or another time. It'll be fun." He mused, as he walked around in search for her.

I want up- so I can marry mama down on.. on misotoe!’ Kissing someone means getting married to them, right? If so, the little chick would be delighted to have his mama all to himself. >:3

Marco looked down at his son, a soft smile crossing his face. He crouched down in front of him, patting his head.

“Oh? You know what the mistletoe means -yoi?” He asked in mock surprise.

With a chuckle he scooped his boy up and called Sho over. Standing under the mistletoe he gave her a wide smile.

“Someone wants a Christmas kiss -yoi! Wouldn’t be the holiday without one!”

When Sho came over, under the mistletoe with the two boys, Marco lent forward and got his kiss in first. He smiled at the expression on Kyunos face before leaning him forward to his mama.

“Looks like I’m losing my wife -yoi. The horror.” He said.

He gave a little laugh and smiled at his smaller family. A memory to cherish as Kyuno grew for sure.
