Because Someone  asked I present: 5 things that make me happy

1) Drawing and writing. Haha big shocker to my friends that know me. I’ve recently begun taking drawing more seriously and, now that everything I create isn’t literal garbage, have really begun to enjoy the process. It’s hard to say I love things and commit to them, but these two have constantly been in my life. I find it impossible to resist bringing my ideas to life. Not to mention I really feel like I have a purpose when I create.

2) My friends! My super awesome and talented, hardworking friends always inspire me to be like them in some way, but they also offer me a lot of reprieve from talking to people I hate find to be tiresome and my terribly loud brain that screeches in self loathing often. They always encourage me to dod my best and I really hope they know how happy they make me when we share ideas, opinions, and time together. Love you bitches guys!

3) Aha... at the risk of sounding really irritating: my obsessions. Currently that would be DRV3 and to a minor extent kpop. DR was alway on my radar but the characters from v3 have always stuck with me. Now I'm even friends with people in the fandom and its been the best time! Kpop is just generally great for vibing to me tbh. On the whole though, my obsessions really offer me solace from all the shitty and stressful things in the world, so I think they deserve a place here.

4) Music. Technically kpop fits here too Ig but generally music is the best because it 1) offers and escape/reprieve from the world and 2) is way too fun to dance and jam out to. I’m an embarrassment when it comes to dance, but dammit if it doesn’t feel good to have such an outlet in life.

5) Stories! Again, had to go with an umbrella term because honestly any good story that's well told can captivate me. I love comics, movies, writing and reading, honestly any kind of way to convey a story and you've got me hooked. I can listen to my friends tell me all about dumb shit they’ve seen and heard, read fanfic and books until my eyes are dry (haha don’t stare at screens in the dark and don’t read late at night without a flashlight), and write or draw about whatever dumb idea pops into my head! Stories aren’t always an escape, for me they can also be a way to reflect reality, so I’ve always had a love for them.

honorable mentions: my favorite 4 drinks: water, flavored sparkling water, strawberry frappe boba tea, and a Starbucks strawberry refresher. Yes I had to be specific, because they’re like the only liquids I consume. Another: all my lamps in my room. I love each one of you weird lil bitches. Last one: my pillows all... 5 of them. Haha ever see that post about lonely people needing more pillows? Nah me neither.

Unpopular opinions part two🤪

1. Old Kpop fans deserve their respect.

They were here before it was ‘cool’ or ‘normal’ for them to like Korean pop. Before it was accepted. Before the ‘Korean wave’ was a thing. They were here before Vlive, world tours and merch. They were here and have watched many idols go to the millitray, multiple scandals and disbandments. Pls be aware of how young you are as a fan to the entire industry as a whole. Esp since it was prob an elder Kpop fan that put you on and made the fan culture was it is today: more accessible to fans all over the world.

2. A lot of the hype in America for Kpop isn’t genuine....

The shows that include BTS and stuff only did it to get a boost in ratings. If you honestly think Ellen and John Cena are armys....I got some bad news for you. It’s literally just white men at board meetings looking at what teenagers think is hot at the moment. Also, if you honestly think BTS was gonna get that Grammy.....sis no. Maybe in the future but like Kpop isn’t recognized as ‘real’ music yet.

3. Big Bangs’ Top needs to come back.

His scandal wasn’t even that bad tbh. He smoked some weed with a one of his bitches🤷🏻‍♀️ his name literally stands for ‘The Orginal Pimp’. Like we know he had hoes, just like any other famous guy idol. And she was a total social climber who tried to defame him, this was proven by the outrageous things she did after the TOP scandal calmed down. So all the bad things she said about him should be taken with a grain of salt. Personally, weed isn’t a big deal esp since we apparently got rapists out here now👀 but in Korea it is a big deal. Still he reflected and has been quiet for like 2 years now. How long should he punish himself for? He was one of the best rappers out here🤧😩

4. The big three are the big three for a reason.

SM, JYP and YG are some of the oldest companies that have been around with the most distinct style and influence. The amount of revolutionary groups to come from those companies alone is i n s a n e. Being the big three isn’t about money, so ppl saying BigHit outsold so them so they are bigger than the three, is just wrong. The big three have been doing this consistently before some of you hoes were even born and produced amazing groups over and over again. BigHit’s success is new, and they only have one big and successful group at the moment. Give it some time🤷🏻‍♀️

5. Fan service is a thing.....just thought you should know

In Korea, idols are taught to please their fans by any means necessary......this includes acting very cutesy and clingy with certain members. Yes.....some of your opts are for show.....they know what they’re doing.....😬

6. BlackPink’s Jennie was being lazy

Sis......you’re a whole barrel of laughs if you honestly think that we’re all just haters who decided to attack her out of the blue. When she was being dragged for her rude faces, I defended her bc some resting faces are just naturally aloof looking. But c’mon. Y’all really trying to play the mental health excuse or the tired excuse when all her solo activities actually had energy??? It’s rude bc all her members actually pulled through🤷🏻‍♀️ no hate to her but sis was lacking🤷🏻‍♀️

7. Some Ideal Types are kinda.....weird? Idk lemme explain

I know that having an ideal type is kind of a given in Korea but can we talk?? I think the whole descriptions of the the types given by some of these idols is kinda.....VERY FUCKING DETAILED? Like the weight and stuff. And no hate, it’s okay to have a preference but I wanna talk to some of these fans. I literally watched some fans change their entire persona for their bias. My sister even tried starving herself for a bit bc someone said Taehyung perfered girls who were like 90-100 pounds. Please guys, don’t take that stuff to heart......

8. Facemasks literally don’t do anything

Not necessarily Kpop but Kbeauty. Ummm....dermatologists even admit that it doesn’t do anything to your skin. It can make ur skin feel nice for a short period, but in the long run you are actually doing more harm than good to your skin......just think about that next time you wanna buy a facemask.

9. Be careful with Kbeauty.....there’s a fine line to walk

If your eyeliner is meant to make your eyes look Asian.....it’s cultural appropriation. If you’re using bb cream or foundation that’s way lighter than your actual skin.......that’s colorism. Also trying to give yourself aeygo bags is kinda fetishizing a feature that many Asians have. Just don’t. Work with what you have instead of tryna became a whole other race. 🤦🏻‍♀️

10. AOMG should become the new YG

YG is so fucking problematic these days, it’s sad really bc they were that one company that was all about hip hop and ‘dark’ concepts. I think they were even called the black label out of the big three 🤔 so they are def taking a hit with all these scandals they got rn. I got to thinking....what other company is all about hip hop and more rap driven whilst having a good management/ceo? AOMG! Jay Park is literally so nice and all the artists under them have so much creative freedom and make good music. If Jay Park made a boy group or a girl group?? It’d be fucking over for YG! Y’all should blow up Jay Parks dm’s and ask for a group debut 🤪

Dreamcatcher: Comparing Breaking Out with Diamond

i already posted a lot about this song yesterday, but i realized i wasnt done, i have more i want to say, and i have new things i want to talk about, as you can see from the title of this post lol

People have been saying that Breaking Out is a lot like their bside Diamond, and I agree, and like I’m not wild about that song either, but I do like that song more cause it feels more Dreamcatcher to me. I wanna examine that. 

They both have that kind of latin beat in the verses, with guitar that comes out in the chorus, but like... the way it comes into that song, the rhythm, is the same sort of one that’s been in many DC songs. Once the chorus hits though the guitar is a little underwhelming for me I guess, but the prechorus is really DC.

The vocal melodies are the biggest difference. They’re the things that don’t work for me about Breaking Out, and they’re why I feel Diamond is a more Dreamcatcher-style track. I don’t know enough about actual like musical terminology to say why they feel a certain way or what they’re doing... but I’ll try my best to explain what I mean haha. Once the beat kicks in, Yoohyeon starts with that “wake up......”, in a kind of dissonant way, like, it’s kind of eerie right? a little bit evil? There’s something really theatrical about the way Dreamcatcher songs write their melodies that highlights that kind of delivery too. Listen to the way their voices kinda roll with the beat in the first verse, which gives the beat an air of darkness, like something’s about to happen. It feels like neither the vocals nor the beat could exist without the other, they work together well, even if it’s not really my personal cup of tea haha. Then, like in Breaking Out, Dami has a section right after the chorus, with affects applied to her unique voice, but I prefer the way it sounds here in Diamond. It’s a bit deeper. But the most striking difference is that... that sounds like Dami. Not just in voice, but in delivery. That sounds like the way Dami raps.

After the second chorus of Diamond, there’s a bridge that ends on the “DIAMOND!” again, but instead of going into the chorus a third time, it enters this really very weird and awesome dissonant.... synth? In my opinion this is the highlight of the song, it makes you feel like you’re in a frozen wasteland, it sounds like harsh, frostbiting wind... especially in the way it pulses in and out... what a nice touch lol... and the flute too... damn... that’s a really magical moment that sells the song, especially cause they then do that chorus again on top of that synth. 

Now lemme look at Breaking Out and compare them. Right away, it has a similar dance beat, as I mentioned, but I don’t think Yoohyeon’s beginning in this song has much atmosphere at all. The “run away~ run away~” is a little... idk... beneath their capabilities? And Dami’s little bit in the first verse here is kinda confusing to me, I can’t tell if she’s supposed to sound intense or sexy or bold or even just like... tired lol... like the way it ends on that vocal fry? And then the chorus, it’s alright, but it’s not like remarkable you know? Siyeon sings it powerfully but that’s not what I mean. I can’t stress this enough, none of this has anything to do with the members themselves, it has to do with the lines that they were given, and I believe they did the best with the direction that they could have, elevating an otherwise mediocre song a bit higher just by being them. 

Here’s what i’m talking about though. Pretend it’s not them, pretend there’s no lyrics, just take the raw melodies. Which is a more hummable song? Which song is easier to hum? It’s Diamond. Not all songs have to be hummable, but that’s something that I think connects Dreamcatcher’s melodic style, and that’s something that was missing here. You can hum either one obviously, but which one just flows better? It’s much more noticeable in the verses than in the chorus, and Diamond’s chorus is hard to compare anyway since a lot of it is something of an instrumental drop, but with guitar haha. Not all of it, but if youre listening to the song, you know what I mean. 

Breaking Out just feels really simple... I can’t sing much lol, but like tapping my fingers to the melody or humming it just kinda exposes that it’s a bit... idk... it’s not complicated. Try the same thing with Diamond and you should notice a big difference. It’s... hard to put into words cause I dont have the music theory vocabulary but.... you know? It’s okay when pop songs are relatively simple, that’s not necessarily a bad thing, I just expect a bit more from Dreamcatcher, you know?

I hope literally anything I said in this post makes sense....... I also hope people don’t hate me for saying all this............... I love Dreamcatcher so much as a fan, like, I love the members and I love the aesthetics and I love the imagery and story and all of that. I really, really, really do, and that’s really evident if you look at my Dreamcatcher tag hahaha. But I’m first and foremost interested in the music of kpop (technically this is jpop but its a kpop group so you know what I mean). I like thinking critically about music and having a lot to say about something, but that doesn’t always mean I love something, and i’m not gonna listen much to a song I don’t really like just because I like the group. Especially when I love pretty much every other song by them lol, like... I know this is their most recent, but it’s only one song among many, you know? It won’t always be their most recent... should I maybe have waited to say all this until it was like 3 or 4 comebacks ago? maybe.... hmmm....

Let me just sum up everything and restate my point. This has nothing to do with the members or their performances, it has to do with the songwriting, and how I don’t think it feels like a Dreamcatcher song. If you like the song anyway, that’s great! I’m just saying that that’s one of the reasons I can’t get into it. If you don’t mind that it doesn’t sound Dreamcatchery, or like, if you disagree with me and you think that it does, I’m not trying to change your mind! I just wanna put my feelings into words lol

For the twitter fight:

There was a person who called out a girl named Krysta who is an Eric stan and goes to a lot of fansigns. The person on twitter said the following:

“a twenty one year old asking a seventeen year old questions about what they would do if they were dating them REPEATEDLY and other things like that is creepy? its creepy and weird and that twenty one year old needs to check themself and also realize fanservice is a thing”

And obviously it circled around and got brought to Krysta’s attention. There was a lot of talk and a lot of threads about how she knows it’s fan service, etc. It kinda split apart stan twitter into people who thought she was right and though she was wrong. The entire thread Krysta posted will be posted below for you to read and make you own opinions on.

As for now, this should’ve calmed down but it was pretty messy for a while. There are people claiming she is wrong in doing so and people who don’t think so but as for now, I believe it’s okay and the whole issue has kinda passed. Here’s the response for you to read:

1) “First, s*** talker [name redacted] likes to spread false things about me but has me blocked. If you want to talk about me, say it to my face. Secondly, she has absolutely no idea what she’s talking about lmao”

- attached there are three pictures, one of which has the call-out tweet, another has a response saying that the op meant krysta was saying borderline pedophilic to Eric” and the last was a definition of the word pedophilia which means “sexual feelings towards children”

2) “I purposely took the definition from a dictionary instead of some random website so you could see how heada** you are. I have not, EVER, IN ANY WAY, sexualized Eric. EVER. Yeah I call him my “boyfriend” and I “flirt” with him but is it really that serious lol”

I know you said to disregard your biases, but Yongguk is the best member to ship you with in my opinion! Lemme talk about some visuals for 2.5. You know you can envision some idols with a type of girl? Well, I can envision Yongguk with a tall girlfriend, and girl you fit the description perfectly. Along with natural aesthetics, I love imaging you two together in a shop somewhere or sitting at home on the couch with your legs over his while you’re watching TV. Moving right along, you and Yongguk make each other smile and giggle all the time like nobodies business. Whether you’re being weird or he is being weird, you two can hit that soft teddy bear spot on each other and you’re always happy and smiley! Along with making each other giggle and smile, you two balance each other and bring out the light hearted feelings in each other. You help Yongguk smile a little more, and you smile a lot more as well. One thing you really love about each other is how you two boost each others self-love and feeling of self-worth. I know how much you love Yongguk, and I know for a damn fact you’d tell him how much you love him when we talk about him. And you are also very insecure about yourself when you are !!BEAUTIFUL!! and Yongguk would let you know how beautiful you are everyday, and he would always tell you how important you are to the world, and why you matter. His praises and compliments always puts a smile on your face, and neither I or Yongguk is able to tell you how much it means to him kill me I’m soft. Then I can TOTALLY see you two in his studio and you help him write lyrics and come up with different concepts for his solo work, and as if it wasn’t an option, there are some songs dedicated to you. There is mild PDA between you two since you prefer to keep the affection in a more private setting. Date nights are very fluffy and simple, but on occasion you two will go out and he’ll splurge on a fancy dinner. He likes to surprise you with small presents every now and then with small things you like to remind you that he pays attention to what you like. 

BTS: Jungkook 

I was conflicted over who I should ship you with, which it was in between Tae and Jungkook. I still really do ship you with Tae, but as you’ve matured I do ship you more with Jungkook! My first reason being is video and picture edit dates! You two sitting on the couch, in sweats with your laptops and you work on editing pictures for school and he edits his little videos. It’s the perfect way to spend some time together and be productive at the same time. Then every once in a while when you get inspiration to draw, you use him as your muse. You’re also an extremely cute gaming couple *cough* overwatch. Jungkook is very soft for you whether he wants to admit it or not. Jungkook can talk to you about anything no matter how weird or serious the topic may be. He also loves for you to play with his hair and baby him slightly. You two are also one of those couples that will be awkward with each other, but it’s a comfortable awkward, I don’t know how to explain it, but it’s there. Then you’re at the mall one day and you two see a shirt that is made for men and women, and you say “why not?” and get the shirt. And even though Jungkook is soft for you, he is very protective and possessive over you. We’ve all seen how he gets when the hyungs mess with him, and I can see him wrapping his arm around your waist securely to keep you close to him in a crowd, and attempting to be dominant. And then you’re like “boy who the f are you?” when you get to the dorm and he’s being a hyper little shit on V-Live. And when he isn't being dominant in public, he loves to shower you in PDA because he loves to see you blush. And he’ll pick you up from class like “hey babe” and you’re a happy mess and he loves to see you be all fluffy and mushy. A lot of language and Netflix dates with pizza, and you also sleep a LOT. Sleep is key to your relationship because if you two don’t have enough sleep, you’ll be grumpy and tease each other. 

Topp Dogg: Hojoon 

I took ot12 TP into consideration for this, but the more I thought about it, I do ship you with Hojoon more than I thought I would! Starting with a visual, similar to Yongguk that I think he would have a tall girlfriend, I can see Hojoon having a mixed girlfriend, and you're perfect for it! Moving right along, you two are good counter parts to each other. From many many experiences, you’re a weirdo with your friends. Hojoon will bring out the weird in you, and you’ll bring the tame to him. When you’re in public you’re either smiling like cuties or putting on your poker face for the camera’s. I can see Hojoon being very cute and sweet with his PDA, which he’ll be goofy too and you’ll be giggly and soft in public. He’ll also be protective over you since you do get a little nervous and anxious, and he wants to be able to guide you through a crowd and make sure you’re okay. And after being a big crowd or if you’re in any sort of distress, he’ll take a day off and plan a healing day that’s catered just for you. He spoils you and keeps the air free of any toxic energy and you both end up falling asleep on the couch while cuddling. It would become a lowkey precedent where you two would pick out outfits for each other since Hojoon likes to play around with fashion, and it’d only be fair if you got to join in. And you two will try to help keep each other organized by like trying to keep lists of errands and tasks you need to finish. This process would work for like a week, but the week would get so hectic to the point where he’d find the paper under a bunch of stuff on the kitchen table and he’d be like “we forgot to keep track of this.” And one thing that you love about Hojoon is that he ALWAYS has something new to get into. Whether it’d be going to another city, a new restaurant, or trying out a new activity that’s going on in town, there is always something new and adventurous, there is never a dull moment between you and Hojoon.

VIXX: Leo

Again, I tried to stray away from choosing your bias, but I just can’t help myselffffff. I could ship you with Hakyeon, but the feels aren’t as there as they are for Leo *smirk smirk*. Disclaimer, you and Leo are the most reserved and mature of the four ships, but y’all are still gonna have fun, I gotchu. Although Leo is normally quiet and he keeps to himself, you do get to see him being weird and quirky that we get to see every now and then. He’ll also get memey when you’re sitting on the couch being quiet. He’s the one that will start acting weird in complete silence and you’re startled because he’s so chill and calm, but the secret to the wild being of Leo is him being comfortable with you. He is a big observer, and he loves to observe you when you're getting ready in the morning. He'll ask questions about what you're doing when you put on your eyeliner, and you're genuinely surprised how clueless he is at all the make up since he has to wear it all the time. But he sits beside you, staring at you in awe with his mouth hanging in awe a little, as you’re putting on mascara it’s really cute. Adding on to Leo being comfortable with you, as your relationship continued, the more affectionate he becomes. He’s affectionate in his own way, but he loves to hold your hand and rub the pad of his thumb on the top of your hand. He’s very smiley in public with you, but he prefers to keep the PDA on the downlow, and you respect that and are okay with it. And let’s take a moment to talk about date night. He L O V E S  to shower you in fancy dinner dates. He loves to see you get dressed up and pamper yourself because you feel good about yourself, and of course, he reminds you on how amazing you look every time. Then taking late night road trips in the middle of nowhere is always a good idea, and it’s always fun for you two to be alone against the world. And during those late night trips, you two talk about life. The good, the bad, the happy, the anger, the kind, you talk about everything. Then you talk about your loves, your hates, and most of all your weaknesses. You both proceed with caution when you enter weakness territory and you take your time, but when you mutually become comfortable with each other, you talk about your weaknesses and you agree that you both will take time to take care of each other when you need each other the most. Then healing time is vital for both of you, which you two ditch every form of communication with the outside world, and you’ll escape to someplace that has no phone service with little people for the whole weekend. i tried some other boygroups last night because i was really glad that i checked out bts to see for myself what they were really like, but idk, i feel like bts breaks the mold, ESPECIALLY with songs like idol, it doesnt even sound like kpop. i mean, of course it doesnt, it sounds like a south african dance track with elements of hiphop and shouts in the chorus from traditional korean storytelling. wild. nobody else did that. so yeah idk i only tried the first youtube result for 5 or 6 boygroups, just to get a feel for them, and like there werent any i felt were god-awful, but there werent any that really grabbed my attention either. idk, that’s true of a lot of girl groups i tried too, but at this point im so far down the girlgroup rabbithole that of course im gonna be encountering ones that didnt quite catch on. like, i took the first couple boygroups that i could think of and listened to those and wasn’t too impressed, whereas if i took the first couple girlgroups that came to mind i would be. i know because i was when i first heard them lol. like, comparing sf9, nct, exo, etc with red velvet, izone, even blackpink (for as much as i give it shit, kill this love took some real risks. in my personal opinion i dont think the risks paid off, but still)... and thats not even mentioning loona lol... idk, im not gonna like try to say boygroups are bad, it’s just that i find that girlgroup songs often are in a style that appeals to me a lot more. its not just that i like the members more or whatever lol, i’m bi lol it has nothing to do with attraction or whatever. even just based on absolute first impressions alone, girlgroups seem to vary more, even within their title tracks, which are usually the most formulaic (cause they have to appeal to the most people). as i said, bts in 2018-19 is something of an exception, they’ve kind of transcended kpop anyway, but if i compared one of their early songs, they’d fit the type of thing i’m talking about. 

boygroups seem like western boybands a lot of the time, theyre about seeming tough and/or sensitive, usually both at the same time. girlgroups are often about being cute and bubbly or being powerful and “bad-bitch” and stuff, but the way they achieve those aesthetics musically is more interesting to me than the boyband tough-and-sensitive musical aesthetic. a song like DKDK by Fromis 9 isnt as hard hitting as a song like Enough by SF9 (i only chose these two for the 9 lol), but its............. better............. catchier......... weirder.......... makes me happier.............. idk maybe im just not a fan of brooding lol, i like goofiness. even within music that goes hard as fuck, i dont like if its just brooding, i want you to be going WILD like CLC’s Hobgoblin does lol. I want the sound of the song to beat me up, even if I wasnt watching the video. and like in hiphop (which i think boygroups might trend more towards) i like when people are fuckin leaping around the stage or set, rapping their heads off. like BTS’s Idol, but also like the american rappers I listen to, like Jpegmafia and Danny Brown and shit. I know that’s a tall order to expect that kind of performance from kpop, but not because kpop cant do it, its just that they might avoid being too abrasive in their title tracks (maybe bsides would be like that?). but idk, some girlgroup title tracks are wild and kind of abrasive... so... 

and like, sure some girlgroups focus on looking cool or sexy or cute or whatever, but i often feel like there’s more to the aesthetic than that, though maybe that’s just the stuff i listen to. I haven’t found a major boygroup who makes videos like red velvet does lol... (except bts)

anyway this is a ramble

if you disagree and have examples please let me know! i want to be wrong about this! the six songs i checked out and wasnt impressed by were “enough” by sf9, “wakey wakey” by nct, “crown” by txt, “love shot” by exo, “spring breeze” by wanna one, and “say my name” by ateez. not to repeat myself too much but lemme pick six of the biggest girlgroups and list their first youtube result just to demonstrate the difference in style. “kill this love” by blackpink, “really bad boy” by red velvet, “butterfly” by loona, “violeta” by izone, “dalla dalla” by itzy, “bon bon chocolat” by everglow. i mean... like... idk all those songs are weird. rbb is actually one of red velvet’s less weird songs lol, but still. shrug. and those are just six recent 2019 ones. 

uh yeah but anyway if you know of some weird stuff or wanna lmk about another song from one of those boygroups that i’d like more, or you have something to say about those songs that i might not have picked up on, let me know! i like liking music more than i like disliking music, so i’d love to change my mind haha, i wanna like as much stuff as possible. 

edit: rbb wasnt 2019, my bad, but it was november 30th so still, all these songs have been within the last five months and theyre all more interesting to me than the bg songs i listed.
