Grant Haffner Breaks Into His Brightest Tints To Paint Incredible Neon Sunsets And Landscape
Artist Grant Haffner spent a childhood on Long Beach in Sag Harbor, N.Y., travelling free on the roads, scouring the beaches and countryside. His memory has preserved the bright images of growing up, and he recalls them on his canvas using neon and technicolor hues.
The artist uses a technique of drawing on wood panelling by blending acrylic, marker, pencil and paint pen to create movement and texture with lines of fluorescent color. The quiet and tranquil scenery, without being punctuated by moving bodies, creates motion as the artist uses his smooth, glowing brushstrokes to create the illusion of speed just as his experience of coasting on the pick-up truck.
Haffner’s art is his personal reflection on how his vision, matured and experienced with age, is seeing the landscape change that used to delight him as a child. The never ending highways, bright horizons that go on forever and skies with several intense layers featured in his art and reimposed with these radiant colors are not only his perspective of his childhood, but a way to assure himself that the beauty will never fade from Long Island.
