Hey, it’s been a minute.

I’ve been gone because my father had spine surgery. It’s been rough and difficult, it hasn’t even been a week yet, I’ve been struggling a lot. So if it seems like I’m vacant or not responding to messages.

I try to keep my personal life outside of social media stuff. But I felt the need to explain.

I also have a new fic I’ve been working on. That will be published hopefully by Monday night. I’ve been trying to write to keep myself sane.

Week 6 - Critical Self - Reflectivity

In week 6, we were taught about critical self-reflectivity. To me, it has a similar idea to critical thinking. Critical self reflection involves personal growth, reflecting oneself’s experience, what you have learnt and how you will change in the future. (What is a Critical Reflection? Introducing the “What, So What, Now What” Model)

As a group of four, we have to head out to a nearby mall from school and document any design problem that we see and think of a solution, then share it with the class. 

The problem that we decided to focus on is unreadable signage. We believe that unreadable signage causes great disadvantages to both the shop owners and the customers. Not only does it affect the shop’s business, it also confuses customers when the signages are hard to read (Boudreaux).

We noticed that some of the shop signs were quite old and dirty. Here are some of the design problems that I have documented. From these images, some of the shop signs that I saw were hard to read from afar due to the colour, choice of font, and font size as well. Besides that, some of the texts are not communicated well and we can't tell if the shop is a food store or what the store is selling. My solution to these problems is ensuring that the shop name is big and visible from afar as it is the main sign, and has good contrast. Moreover, the choice of fonts plays a big part in readability. For example, using San serif fonts instead of serif. Improving signage not only helps for readability but also helps to improve brand visibility and recognition.(Jullings)
