Hello
What is a character that you did not expect you would like but ended up being obsessed with?
Hi thank you for the question! You have no idea what can of worms you just opened haha! My answer is Obi-Wan but wait- let me explain!
I first watched the Star Wars movies with my family when I was 5 or 6 in the order that they were released. So originals then prequels. Over the years, we watched 2003 Clone Wars, the TCW movie, and then we would catch some episodes of TCW from time to time when we were somewhere that had cable TV and was playing the show on Cartoon Network.
My little child brain did not see any nuance whatsoever because I was a child and therefore all my favorite characters were characters I thought were cool or the epitome of #girlpower (I'm a lesbian. I was obsessing over them in a lesbian way. I did not know this. Go women.) To me, Obi-Wan was just a white man. He was nice but he was also bland and boring. I didn't really touch his action figure when I would play with the Star Wars ones my brothers and I shared.
Last year I decided to watch Star Wars in chronological order of events rather than release date. And I really wanted to sit down and actually watch TCW because I'd only seen odd episodes here and there as a kid. In my rewatch, I was struck by Obi-Wan's kind heart, undying belief in the Jedi Order and the light side of the Force, sass and wit mingling with posh Brit attitude, the way he just slays nonstop (even in flavors of drowned wet cat and pathetic meow meow), and his overwhelming vibes of bisexuality. I was quite taken by him. He went from being just some white guy to being My Special White Guy.
[If you are curious and would like to see my list of childhood faves, it's under the cut.]
Vader - He's intimidating and I had his lightsaber. (Came in a three pack of Vader, Luke, and Obi-Wan. My mom went ham for things that came in three's or multiples of three because I'm a triplet and it's convenient)
C-3P0 - He literally went to the school of cuntology. (Special honor goes to his husband R2. Inseparable comedy and fuck-shit-up duo.)
Leia - She's a badass and I'm a lesbian. Slave Leia outfit did something to my developing brain.
Padmé - She's competent and I'm a lesbian. Also I would regularly check out the Star Wars visual dictionaries from the library or just look at them while I was there (I would go every Wednesday) and stare her costumes for way too long. Genuinely, I was (and still am) obsessed with every single costume they gave her.
Ahsoka - Jedi who's a girl and also a kid like me???!? Instant fave.
Ventress - Oaughhhgg drop dead gorgeous woman with two beautiful red lightsabers and the way she fights????? Guards, take me away
Aurra Sing - Genuinely think this one was because I'm a lesbian. I recall checking out a novel where she was the mc along with a comic that featured her from the library and the only thing from them I remember is looking at the pictures of her and thinking she's so pretty.
Mace Windu - Special honors go to him because his lightsaber color is the best. When I dove into Star Wars fandom spaces for the first time last year, I could not fathom why I kept seeing people say stuff about "Windu hate". I was under the impression the only thing to critique was they didn't let Samuel L Jackson say motherfucker even once. I stand by this.
#again thank you for the ask!! <3333#lasagna rambles#im a certified Obi-Wan lover now#also whenever i show my mom my art she calls him “Obi” which i think is the cutest thing#no one get me started on how i fell in love with Cody because im a bit unhinged#obi wan kenobi#ask box

I FINALLY WATCHED KENOBI LAST NIGHT :
First i love leia being slightly annoying and strong headed i mean look at her bio parents 😭 and I LOVE THE FACT THAT SHE IS SUPER CLOSE WITH BAIL and they really took great care of her, alderaan is truly a beautiful planet such a shame that we lost it 😭.
I joke about owen lars too but tbh let’s be real most people would have acted the same, and he ain’t a snitch !
obi-wan lives pretty much like i imagined him. THE NIGHTMARES GOT ME LIKE 😭. Ofc he haunts him but like bail said there is nothing he could have done more, he may did mistakes too but he lacked proper guidance too. If qui-gon wasn’t dead none of this would have happened
I wonder why the 3rd sister/reva is up to she must have another reason to want to capture obi-wan that badly unless they have been told to not come back until all the jedi are confirmed dead idk in that case i can understand that you want to be done with it
so according to obi-wan there is jedi traitors who joined the empire … LET’S SEE THEM IN THE NEXT EPISODES PLEASE
i hope that vader is only doing bacta baths like boba does and it happened to be more close to obi-wan geographically or spiritually ? and obi-wan finally using the force in years was the reason he got and hold of his signature ?Bc you are not telling me that vader spend 10 years in the bacta plz
And yea the young jedi who came up on tattooine boy you can’t really make a revolution on your own he should have laid down low for a while that’s the best he could have done
i liked the morally grey scammer we definitely need more of those and FINALLY PADME being talked about like YES SHE EXISTED TOO AND WAS IMPORTANT i love her so much. I hope leia and luke got to know at some point in their life how wonderful their mother was! ALSO THE OUTFIT THAT LEIA WORN there was atleast two inspired from padmé’s outfit and the green cape was a wink to ROTJ, the one she wore on endor !!
did you noticed that in the inquisitors team ? we have a male rattataki and a female zabrak which is pretty rare !
anyways they came really hard with this first scene !!! i was so afraid to have to watch through it but thanks god we see some escape is there hope ?
What did you think of this first episode ? let me know in the comments let’s scream together

Rose Tico — from concept art to screen
From The Art of Star Wars: The Last Jedi by Phil Szostak:
ROSE CORRIDOR VERSION 01 by Kevin Jenkins The escape pod corridor of Leia’s Resistance cruiser, where we meet Rose, was designed to represent the more industrial guts of the ship: less high-tech, but still reflective of its overall Resistance and Mon Calamari aesthetic. The temporary or engineering bridge set, as it was called by the art department, is similarly located in the underbelly of the cruiser and similarly designed: lower decks where skilled crewpeople like Rose toil to keep the starship running.
ROSE GROUND CREW A72B by Jock (Mark Simpson) “When we were figuring out Rose’s outfit, we didn’t even know who the actress was. But we knew it was going to be a basic coverall. Rian wanted it to be pretty shapeless, something that a man or woman could wear. But it’s in her character: She’s not someone that has to look good for work. Rose is a no-nonsense character. She just plugs along and she’s spunky. So it does work. They decided to keep her in that outfit throughout the whole Canto Bight situation.” — Michael Kaplan, costume designer
ROSE PENDANT by Matthew Savage “The initial brief, as per the script, was to design a two-part pendant that would be split between Rose and her sister. Story-wise, that developed into two identical pendants—one for each sister—but the ‘yin and yang’ aspect led the design. Set decorator Richard Roberts suggested some Celtic reference that influenced one design, which quickly became Rian’s favorite, and that design stuck.” — Matthew Savage, prop concept designer
CABARET REVAMP ENTRANCE VERSION 01 by Adam Brockbank, Rick Heinrichs Costume designer Michael Kaplan recalls, “There was supposed to be a scene where Rose and Finn broke into a shop window when they got to Canto Bight. She put on a gown and he put on a futuristic tuxedo. So that was going to be a reveal for Rose, going from this frumpy-dumpy coverall to a beautiful gown, which never happened.”
STABLES AND SUPPLY VERSION 10 by Rodolfo Damaggio “Immediately after escaping the jail, we see the fathiers in their environment, riffing off of that because the fathiers are the ones who are truly in the dungeon, maligned, mistreated, and abused.” — Rick Heinrichs, production designer
“The instant you see the fathiers, you need to feel sympathy for them—to feel like you want to help them. It’s a tough thing to communicate, design-wise.” — Rian Johnson, writer and director
HANDS UP VERSION 02 by Fernández Castro “We built quite a bit of the crashed shuttle. And Chris Corbould’s special effects team has it running in and dragging through, coming a halt at the end. It was another one of those mandates from the director: Do as much in-camera as possible. And we actually ended up doing it. That scene played out beautifully.” — Rick Heinrichs, production designer

I stole this from someone on Facebook who stole this from people on Twitter

bête noire
summary: It’s time to get your own lightsaber. Rey thinks you’re ready but you’re not so sure. You’re still thinking about letting Kylo Ren secretly visit you on the new base but you don’t know if you should trust him. While searching for your kyber crystal, you run into some trouble...
pairing: kylo ren x female reader
warnings: LIES, ACTION, DRAMA!!!!
wc: 4k
note: hi i hope u like this. i pulled some of the lightsaber stuff out of my ass so if it isn't accurate don’t come for me thx. ps: doesn't he look FIIIIINE as hell in this gif? damn, i’d climb him like a tree.
CHAPTER THIRTY-NINE
Sweat drips down your forehead as your hands fumble over the metal pieces in front of you. One hand is holding a tool to connect them, the other is steadying the pieces so they don’t roll away.
“Rey, am I doing this right?” You sigh, the sun is beating down on your back. Rey peeks at your work then looks at the book with the instructions written on the pages.
“It looks right to me.” She shrugs and continues working on the droid sitting in front of her.
Constructing a Lightsaber seems much easier than it actually is.
Rey doesn’t want to make her own lightsaber yet since she doesn’t feel ready. Although she thinks you’re ready, which is a bit confusing since you’re not as skilled as her.
You connect all the pieces until you get to where the crystal goes. You leave some pieces unassembled so you can gently slip the kyber crystal inside the power cell. It will either successfully turn on or explode if you did the hardwiring incorrectly.
“So we’re going tonight to get a crystal right?” You ask as you gently put the piece away in your bag.
“Yeah, there used to be a Jedi on a planet called Ilum. There was a cave full of them before it was turned into the Death Star. We’ll have to search for one. Remember, the Force will guide you to your crystal. You’ll feel it.” She smiles and notices you packing up, “You done for the day?” She asks and lays her tools down.
The droid in front of her beeps manically, “Calm down. I’m almost done fixing you up anyways.”
You laugh at their conversation, “Yeah. I’m gonna get cleaned up and ready for tonight. Spend time with my munchkins and read.” You tap the cover of the large Jedi book.
“Sounds great. See ya.” She smiles and leans into a hug which you gladly return quickly. You grab ahold of the book and hold it close to your chest, the bag hangs off your shoulder. With every step back towards the base, metal clangs together.
Everything goes silent, you sigh when you realize who it is. “Are you still thinking about it?” His deep voices ask behind you.
You continue down the path, not turning your head. “Yes. I’m still thinking about it, Kylo. You know, it’s a big decision. I could give you my coordinates and you might just send troops here instead.” You grumble.
“Or you could trust that I wouldn’t and allow me to come to see you and meet our children.” His voice drops.
Those words made your heart drop and you felt a rush of sadness overcome you. “I know, I know. Just... give me till tomorrow. I’ll have an answer for you.” You stop in your tracks to turn around and he’s gone.
You sigh loudly, your head falls back to look into the sky but you can barely see it through the trees. “Why does he have to be so complicated.” You groan, taking a moment to breathe and calm yourself before continuing back towards the base.
When you emerge from the trees, some people passing by a glance at you then continue whatever they’re doing. You walk towards the cave then someone taps you on your back. You expect it to be Kylo, your shoulders drop and you turn around ready to scold him but it’s Poe.
“Don’t look so excited to see me.” He laughs and pulls you into a hug. You laugh and close your eyes as you let out a relieved sigh. “I’m actually really glad it was you. I thought it was gonna be someone else.” You mumble into his shirt.
You haven’t seen him in a few days because Leia sent him on a mission for supplies. “Someone else? Rey gettin’ on your nerves today?” He says jokingly and pulls away to look down at you.
“Nah, it’s not Rey today.” You giggle, keeping an arm around his waist as you start to walk towards the base again. “How long have you been back?” You ask, glancing up at him for a moment. “Just a few hours. I haven’t seen Rey either. Was she with you in your spot?” He asks.
“Yeah, she is there. She’s working on a droid.” You sigh as you get close to the command center. “Come to my room tonight. I missed you.” He lands a soft kiss on your forehead then walks over to Leia. He doesn’t know that you’re not going to be here tonight.
You walk away from them, going into the ship to your room. You drop the bag onto the bed, smiling at them in their little baskets. Soon, they’re gonna outgrow them, they can almost sit up by themselves too!
“Let’s take you guys outside today.” You glance at the droid for help. You pick up Ellie, balancing her small body on your hip as you put the book in your other arm so you can read. The droid grabs a blanket so they don’t lay directly on the itchy grass.
You waddle past the command center and out of the cave and towards the little trail that leads to the landing pad. There’s a small patch of grass shaded by the canopy of trees. The droid lays out the large blanket so you could sit on it with the kiddos.
You lay Ellie down on the fabric and the book too. The droid lays Anakin next to his sister and they coo at each other which makes you smile. Ellie rolls over onto her belly, holding her head up as she looks around.
You open the book to the marked page, looking over the words that talk about the crystals and how to handle lightsabers correctly. You keep your eyes on both the book and the kids. The droid keeps Ani entertained by dangling a homemade rattle above his head. He smiles and reaches out for it.
Sometimes you can’t believe that you had twins. It feels like it happened just yesterday but they’ve grown up so much already.
The wind blows your hair and you take a deep breath of fresh air through your nose. You take in the sounds around you; — the rumbling of ships engines and the sounds of leaves rustling above you. It’s so refreshing.
Ellie’s head plops face down against the blanket which makes you chuckle but, of course, you turn her back over so she wasn’t face down. “There ya go, girly.” You soothingly scratch her belly over her clothing.
You get fully immersed in your reading, still taking care of the twins at the same time. You pick your head up and notice the sky turning beautiful bright shades as it grows darker outside, how much time has gone by already?
You mark the page you made it to and close the book. You scoop up Ellie and the book, the droid does the same with Ani and the blanket.
You make your way back to your room, smiling at Poe then disappearing in the ship. You change both of the baby's diapers and put them into pajamas, making sure to feed them as well.
You’ve gotten a hang of feeding them at the same time. You cradle one of them in your arm while the other lays on your legs. They both slowly start to fall asleep on you so you put them both into their little cradles.
“You got them tonight right?” You whisper to the droid who’s folding clean baby clothes. “Yes, I’ll make sure to care for them.” She says in her robotic voice.
“Thank you.” You smile as you slip the book into the bag with your saber supplies. You begin to change into an outfit Rey gave you. It consists of tight black pants, a form-fitted dark gray tunic undershirt, a hooded cloak, and arm warmers. You slip yourself into the new outfit and your worn boots, securing the front pieces of your hair back so they’ll stop dangling in your face.
You have a pack full of things to take on the mission, like extra clothes and materials.
You sling the pack onto your back and your saber bag your shoulder while your staff hangs off your other shoulder. You look back at your sleeping babies, watching their little bellies rise and fall as they breathe. “Thanks again.” You say to the droid before leaving the room.
In the cave, you can see Rey’s little area is lit up and so is the command center. You walk towards Rey’s area but someone grabs your arm and pulls you into a dark spot in the cave. Your eyes go wide, ready to fight but you realize it’s Poe. You push yourself away from him, “What are you doing?!” You whisper-yell at him.
“I was just about to come to see you. I thought you were gonna come to me tonight.” He sounds a little disappointed. Your head drops, “I’m sorry. I forgot. Rey and I... we need to uh... practice... like a train... tonight.” You stutter over your words as you try to come up with a lie.
Leia told you to keep it between Rey and her that you were getting a lightsaber. She knows that Poe would be upset that you and she are going on a mission by yourselves. He would argue that Chewy at least has to go if he couldn’t tag along.
“Wow... You’re a terrible liar.” He laughs, shaking his head. “You’re in this fancy outfit and you’re carrying a lot of stuff. Where are you guys going?” He questions which makes you sweat.
You can see Rey making her way over to you two. Thank the stars.
“Ask her.” You blurt out when she gets closer, “Ask me what?” One of her eyebrows raises slightly.
“What are you guys doing? Why is she carrying all this... stuff?” Poe looks over the bags you’re holding.
“Well, honestly, we’re leaving.” Rey says nonchalantly, “But we’ll be back. It’s important we do this together and alone.” She enunciates the last word to make it clear to him.
“Leaving?! Alone?! Why didn’t Leia say anything to me about this?” He throws his hands up, “I’m coming with you guys. What if you get found by the First Order?”
“I’m pretty sure we can handle ourselves, Poe. Plus, it’s classified. That’s why Leia didn’t say anything.” Rey puts her hands on her hips. You can tell she’s already getting annoyed by him. He looks at you and back at her.
“What about Chewy? Can’t he go with you? He’s just a Wookiee.” His face is furrowed in frustration. You knew he’d ask that.
“Poe, we’ll be fine. I promise. It’s just a quick jump and then we’ll be back. We won’t run into any trouble.” You look at him reassuringly. You can feel the anxiety radiating off of his body, he’s nervous.
His shoulders drop when he realizes you nor Rey won’t budge. “Fine. Transmit to me whenever you get there and leave. I need to make sure you guys are okay.” He grabs your hand to pull you into an awkward hug since there’s too much stuff on your body. He gives Rey a quick hug too then she walks away to collect her things.
“Whenever you get back, we can just do what we had planned then.” He smiles at you and you return one back. “Sounds like a plan.” You mumble. He looks down at his blaster then pulls it out of his holster, “Take it. I want to make sure you’re safe. I know you both have your powers or whatever but just an extra layer of protection. And... It’ll keep me sane.” He leans forward, catching your lips with his.
Your hands instantly go to his face, running your fingers over his scruff as you kiss him gently. “I’ll be back. Don’t worry.” You breathe out into the kiss. It’s obvious you’ve gotten much closer to Poe in the last week or so. Your hand slips his blaster into the holster on your belt as you pull away.
“Let’s go.” Rey almost laughs at you and Poe. You smile at Poe once more before turning around to follow Rey to the landing pad.
She opens the entrance of the Falcon, you both climb into the ship. She closes the ramp then puts all her supplies in a cabinet so it wouldn’t roll around while she flies. “You can put yours in here with mine.” She opens it back up for you so you can slip your staff and your two bags into the cabinet.
Excitement floods your veins when you realize you’ll have your own saber soon. It’s a big responsibility but you trained and worked so hard for this moment.
You lock up the cabinet then join Rey in the cockpit. You buckle in, flipping on some buttons she orders you to touch. “That one.” Your hands hover over the button you think she’s pointing at, “No, that one. The blue one. Yes. That’s the one.” You laugh and press the button.
Rey begins to lift the ship up into the air, moving above the large expanse of trees. It’s just forest for miles and miles. Her hand moves on the power lever, making the ship move forward quickly towards space.
“Ready?” She looks at you and smiles. You nod as you look out the window, she hits some buttons then the ship jolts and goes into hyperspace.
You can never get used to the view of the blue colors swirling together. It’s so fascinating.
“We’ll be on Tatooine soon. It’s not too far. Hopefully, we can find a crystal there.” The mention of Tatooine makes you feel hot and itchy. Ugh, the sand and the heat. So gross.
You take your cloak off your shoulders to hang on the back of the co-pilots seat you’re sitting in. “I hope so too. I don’t want to be there too long.”
-
Rey gathers her things after she lands the ship successfully, “So, we’re gonna go through the town which will hopefully keep us away from the Tusken Raiders.” She moves her hands quickly to swing her backpack over her shoulders.
You grab your staff, stuffing the bag with your saber materials inside into your own backpack. Only so you didn’t have to carry so much.
“Tusken Raiders?” Your eyes go wide at the sound of them. Hopefully, you don’t run into them before you get your saber.
“Yep. They’re indigenous to Tatooine and quite hostile to everyone else.” She clips Luke’s saber onto her belt. “Ready?” She asks with a confident smile.
“Ready than ever.”
Rey and you trek along the sandy hills, making your way to the town in the distance. Your eyes dart around, seeing a dome-like run-down hut that’s quite far from the town. There’s energy pulling you towards it. “That was Luke’s home when he was a child. The Lars family cared for him when he was separated from his mother at birth.” Rey cures your curiosity thankfully.
When you get closer, you start to grow nervous. The town seems like it’s abandoned. You notice that there are still some species and people are living here but they’re elderly or scavengers.
Rey motions with her hand to keep following her through the maze of the town. When you turn a corner, you instantly notice the small cut-de-sac of residential huts. It feels like you’ve been here before but you don’t understand how.
“Oh my god.” You gasp out loud, you stop in your tracks. Rey turns around, her face furrows in confusion. “What?” She looks around.
“My vision. When I saw Anakin, I was here.” Your brain begins to retrace your steps, your feet bring you to each memory. Where you appeared on the ground, he helped you up and brought you into his hut. You duck as you go inside, your face falls when you see the shape it’s in.
It seems like someone or something has gone through the place like a tornado. The furniture is broken, glass crunches under your boots as you move about the small space.
Rey follows your steps as you look around and pick things up from the ground. The Force is telling you to keep searching but you don’t know what for. Rey doesn’t say a word, she just follows you quietly like a mouse.
“Rey. There’s something here. I can feel it. It’s making me itch. I need to find it.” You groan loudly as you start to frantically go through everything. You walk back into the kitchen area, looking at the table you sat at with him. Your hands grip the wood as you lift the broken table up from the ground. There’s nothing. Just more rubble.
You grumble under your breath as you continue to search until the ground under your foot creaks. You pick your head up to look back at Rey. You drop to your knees to brush the mess off of the ground, seeing that there’s a wooden slab in the ground.
You lift it up slowly to see a hole and sitting inside is a small chest. Your fingers tingle as you make contact with it to pull it out. You set it to the side then you cover the hole up again with the wood.
The small chest has Sith and Jedi language inscribed into the wood.
“Open it. What are you waiting for?” Rey bends down next to you, her head peeking forward to look at the wooden box as you lift up the latch to open it.
There’s a tiny drawstring bag inside, some sand made its way into the box too. You gently pick it up, opening it to dump the contents into your hand. A crystal falls out into your hand, it makes you lose your breath.
Gentle whispers of Anakin's voice replay in your head, he came to you with good intent. To show you that you can begin to go down your own path. You had to start where he started.
You bring it closer to your face to admire the beauty of it. It’s opaque, not colored like you thought it would be. This is your stone. “Rey, this is it.”
Your eyes take in the look on her face, it’s not good. She seems angry but also scared. “I don’t know if it is. I know I said you’ll feel it but a stone from Darth Vader? There’s Sith writing on the outside of the box.” She stands to her feet quickly, “Why would the Force lead us to here?” She sighs out of frustration.
“There’s also Jedi writing too. I think it’s telling me to accept the dark side but also stay bonded with the light too. I need to be balanced, Rey...” You keep the crystal tight in your fist so you wouldn’t drop it when you stand up. The crystal warms up against your skin as it bonds with you through the Force.
She still doesn’t buy it, she’s worried. “You always knew that I couldn’t stay with one side. I need to be balanced between both. I mean, for crying out loud, I had children with Kylo Ren. And they’re going to be balanced too because they have me to guide them and him too.” Her face softens slightly at the mention of Ani and Ellie.
“It does make sense. I just don’t want you to go down the wrong path again.” She breathes out and before you can answer she continues, “Let’s put it in your saber to see if it works.”
You nod and begin clearing off a crate so you could lay your things on a flat surface. You open the book so you could follow the instructions. You take your tool to open up a few places.
It’s important not to accidentally invert the emitter matrix if you did the power grid would backfire and blow up. You connect the crystal to the activator that sits inside of the hilt. You gently screw on the last plate needed to finish the saber.
Your fingers run over the button that activates the hilt, thankfully only Force-sensitives are able to activate it. It will help out when the twins are old enough to grab things.
“You ready?” You ask Rey. She’s just as nervous as you but she nods and moves back a little bit.
Your arm extends far away from your body, just in case if it would blow up your arm would be the only thing missing.
Your eyes squeeze shut and you tense up as you click the saber on. The loud vibration sounds and buzzes in your ears. You can see a bright light from behind your eyelids.
Rey says your name, “Open your eyes...” Her voice is quiet and timid. You slowly peek, opening one eye first then both when you see the bright glow coming from the saber.
“What does that even mean?!” You exclaim loudly when you see the odd color shining in front of you.
It’s orange but it’s dark orange. It’s not like anything you’ve ever seen.
Kylo’s is red because of his dark personality but why would yours become orange?
A loud explosion echoes from outside the hut. “I’ll go see what's going on.” She stands up from being next to you and walks outside.
Your eyes follow her movements, seeing her peek her head through the doorway then run back to you frantically. “We need to go now.” Her voice is stern as she grabs her belongings.
With a click of a button your lightsaber extinguishes, you scramble to your feet and put your things back into your bag. You hook your saber onto your belt on the opposite side of Poe’s blaster.
Rey and you walk out into the circle of huts, there’s a thick black smoke cloud coming from the center of the town. Then that’s when you hear the screech of a tie fighter fly above you. “Run!” You yelp and grab Rey’s hand to lunge forward as it shoots a blast. The hut behind you explodes, sand flies everywhere like a blanket that washes over your bodies.
All you can feel is sand. Your mouth is full of sand, your skin and clothes are covered in it too. Your ears are ringing from the blast being so close. You swear you’re going to lose hearing from this happening so much.
How are you and Rey going to get out of this mess? You refuse to be captured by the First Order again. It’ll be worse this time around. You know Kylo wouldn’t go easy on Rey either.
You feel Rey reach out blindly in the cloud of sand to grab your hand, you hold onto her tightly. You can still hear the fighters circling around in the air. Rey’s voice is muffled by the ringing in your ears, “We need to get out of here!” She screams.
Yes, she’s right. You really do.

semi-plotted fixit starter for @cracked-kyber-crystal | let me know if you’d like me to change anything.
The galaxy rejoiced around the young jedi. Darkness had receaded and people were happy. Life had won, at least this time. Balance was restored. Across the galaxy people took to the streets, voices raised in happiness and joy. With the death of Palpatine, the darkness had really fallen, and even those who weren’t sensative to the force could feel it.
But there were two people who felt the loss of life that it had taken to get to this point. Upon the young Jedi’s return to the Resistance Base, she’d been greeted by her friends, who had pulled her into a hug and she hadn’t been able to deny the relief that they had survived, but it wasn’t enough. But it hadn’t taken long for a familiar and comforting figure to pull Rey into a hug, and pull her away from the celebrations. Leia had lost everyone at this point. Everyone but Rey, Chewie and the droids, that was. Rey felt her greif, and instinctively tried to hide her own.
Just because she was ripped in half didn’t mean she wasn’t needed. So her loss was shoved aside to help Leia, who was tired, so tired. She could feel it. They had brought peace and balance to the galaxy after fighting for Leia’s entire life, but at a cost. One that Leia seemed to wish she had never had to pay. Rey assured her that Ben had found the light at the end, that he’d found his way home. Whether Leia noticed her voice catch at that was debatable.
But it only took a few days for Leia to seemingly recover. Rey could still feel her sadness, but it was tempered. Rey wondered how she did it, not aware they both were excelent at hiding what they truely felt, if only to protect themselves from the pain of loss. And Leia had dealt with even more than herself.
Still she felt herself growing more isolated. As the Resistance shifted towards rebuilding the Republic (oddly not so much with Leia’s help but distant guidence) Rey felt... too alone to care. This was worse than Jakku, it wasn’t a lonliness that she could pretend would go away when her family returned. He wasn’t coming back. That was the point of dying. And it hurt. She had to focus not to touch the edge of where he’d been. The pain of it was often too much to bare. All she had of him was a sweater with holes in it and memories of things. Not nearly enough.
She found herself needing to leave. The Resistance was moving to a core world, already renaming themselves, The Galactic Republic. Anyone and everyone could join, but there were laws, treaties and the likes. Things that made no sense to a girl from Jakku. She needed to leave, the feeling only growing stronger. She wasn’t... wasn’t what they wanted. Too violent and broken, she would not make a good negotiator for anything.
So she slipped into the Falcon, fingers brushing over well worn walls as she moved to the cockpit, where she found an unexpected ally. Chewbacca sat and eyed her, blue eyes somewhere between amused and annoyed. His growl wasn’t accusatory. <Where?> She didn’t know if Chewie had recognized her restlessness over the last few hours or just... knew, but she felt relief as she slipped into the pilot’s chair.
“Tatooine. His greatgrandmother’s there, I think.” The wookie nodded and flicked at the switches. A very annoyed beeping drew her attention and she looked back at the blue and white droid. “I can’t stay here, Artoo. We won’t stay there, I promise.” The droid said something else and she eyed him. “You are sure?” The droid could have sounded less pissed.
She sighed and turned back to the ship controls. She snagged the old headset and settled it on her head only to hear the squacking of a panicked controller. “Millenium Falcon you don’t have authorization to leave!” Connix was a sweet woman, but she followed rules too often.
“I’ll be back, Kaydel. I promise.” She just needed space. With that the ship spun around, it’s bulk elegant, even in the morning jungle air, and they shot up into the sky. She might not be happy, but there was some delight in piloting. The ship went into hyperspeed as soon as they got out of atmosphere and she leaned back into the chair, arms carefully wrapping around herself. She closed her eyes, trying not to think of anything. Of what ifs and what might have beens. That would only make her cry. Chewie asked her if she wanted food, and she shook her head, but he sighed and got up, going to the kitchen to make something.
At some point before Chewie finished she fished out the sweater she’d been carrying in her back. It was too big for her, but she pulled it on anyway, getting lost in the smell of the last person who’d worn it, the tears finally finding her eyes as she curled up into the chair, falling asleep with her arm wraped around her face, nose burried in the sweater.
---
Chewie found her and carried her to bed, settling her carefully in the captain’s quarters before slipping out of the room. He missed the Cub too. He just didn’t know how to tell her as much. He’d stayed with her even after his life debt was technically discharged with Han’s death. Not that he’d ever stuck around because of the life debt. He liked Han to much to leave. And now he’d found himself another orphan who needed someone to watch over them.
He let her sleep as they entered Tatooine space. He was perfectly capable of landing the ship, and dealing with docking fees. He knew that she’d hardly slept since she’d returned from Exogol. Losing a mate was troublesom for non-force sensatives, but as far as he could tell, it effected those who could use it so much more. Maybe they felt the loss in a way everyone else couldn’t.
---
Rey woke up suddenly as the warmth of the planet seeped into the walls of the freighter. It was too warm, but she didn’t think of taking off the too large sweater, too focused on trying to figure out why she was on a bed and not in the cockpit. Artoo beeped at her from his self-proclaimed guarding spot. “... Wait we are?” She panicked, standing up, and hurrying out of the room, the sleeves of her largest garment rolled up as she hurried out of the room, snagging her bag as she went. As she moved towards the ramp she could smell the dust and sun. Not so different from Jakku then. Chewie was at the bottom of the ramp, talking to someone, and she moved down it. He growled at the man who scurried off. “You should have woken me.”
<Not sleeping is worse.> He told her. <He will supply a speeder. The droid has the location of the Lars farm.> He roared at her easily and she nodded. He noticed the black sweater. <That’s got a hole in it.> He pointed out and she glanced down eyes going wide and a deep blush finding her.
“Oh... right..” She hurried back inside. It wasn’t long before the speeder was provided and Rey climbed in with the droid. “Aren’t you coming?” She asked Chewie who shook his head, roaring about sand and how it didn’t get along wtih his fur. She sighed, and nodded. Alone then. Well mostly. She glanced at Artoo who was already plugged into the speeder.
The wind felt delightful, and it was fmiliar. Warm, hott, the sand spraying on her face. She suddenly wished she had her goggles and some cloths to wrap around her head. She had forgotten she might need those. Dressed in dark clothing, she knew she might stand out on Tatooine, but it helped a little.
The Lars Farm was... decrepit. She stepped off the speeder with... trepedation. This was a dead place. Long dead. Lost to the sand, almost. She moved around it, looking for something. What she found was a headstone peaking out from the sand and instantly her hand reached out. Wind seemed to leap up from around her, whirling and twisting. Suddenly it swept forward, clearing the sand from the headstones. Four of them. She didn’t know their ages, but the names were there. Owen, Beau, Clieg and Shmi. Though the last one had a longer name than the other three. Skywalker-Lars. She crouched down to look at the small, but beautiful stone, fingers reaching out to touch the sandstone curiously.
“I’m sorry.” She whispered. All that was left of this woman’s line was Leia. It would end there, and it wasn’t fair. “I couldn’t save him, and I’m sorry.” The tears came quickly and she knelt before the grave of a long dead woman who probably didn’t even care what Rey thought. It all hurt too much.
She didn’t know how long she cried, but she jerked to stand when a voice called out to her. “Hello? Who’s there?” The panic in the old feminine voice drew Rey’s attention. Rey turned to see a woman with a Bantha. She was old, weather worn. Rey was reminded of the old woman from Jakku.
“Rey.” Her voice was still full of tears but the name was at least clear.
“Rey who? This place has been desolate for so long, are you going to claim it?” The old woman asked, taking a step towards Rey who instinctively stepped back, almost falling over Shmi’s gravestone. She didn’t know how to answer the woman. There was no last name. Palpatine had lied, she’d known that as soon as he’d tried to taunt her with being her grandfather. She’d always been good at knowing when someone was lying. “Well?”
“Rey...” She paused, thinking. There was a name she’d have liked to have taken... if ther ehad been time to figure out what anything had meant, what being a Dyad had meant. “Solo.” She said after a pause, the woman snorted.
“Dumb name.” The woman glanced at the mostly burried house. “So are you taking it?” Rey glanced at the building, before shaking her head.
“No... just... paying respects.” She said finally and the woman snorted before walking off, obviously annoyed at... whatever Rey had said. She hugged herself, eyes closing as the sun beat down at her neck. The three buns she wore were an attempt at control, but they were loose and one of them a bit to the side. She just felt alone.

RISE OF SKYWALKER
IT HAS BEEN SEEN MY FRIENDS... LET’S GO
IT WAS A LOVE STORY ALL ALONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU. GUYS. I AM SO... ALIVE RIGHT NOW I
okay that opening scrawl i laughed so hard... THE DEAD SPEAK!!
‘supreme leader kylo ren’ will never not be funny
OKAY OPENING WITH KYLO I SCREAMED.... HIS BEAUTIFUL FACE
I LOVE HIM SO MUCH I CANNOT EVEN BEGIN TO EXPLAIN TO YOU.... HOW MUCH
okay and his ruthless hell bent search for this silly macguffin.... we love a demonic legend
and ALSO his determination to kill the past!!!!!! HE HAS LITERALLY BEEN CIRCLING THIS THE WHOLE SERIES
look, i am biased because kylo is my favourite and he has been the one thing that’s been consistently written and done across this trilogy and i’m very spoiled because i got everything i wanted here
but KYLO REN. KYLO REN!!!!!!!!!!!
laughed my ASS off at the snoke in the tube and palpatine being like ‘surprise bitch.... bet you thought you’d seen the last of me’
laughed decidedly LESS at ‘i’ve been every voice you’ve ever heard in your head’
look this isn’t going to be a review.... just my thoughts really and this decidedly isn’t a comparison with the last jedi which it seems like everyone wants to do in a weird victorious kind of way
but kylo killing snoke/his abuser in tlj was a terrifying powerful moment to watch and i loved it fiercely and still do, and for kylo to see that he hadn’t done that at all.... and that evil still abides.... fucking nightmare, honestly
and that’s when i started getting a feeling in the back of my head because look he is so determined to kill the past
(let the past die)
that he will kill himself as well to do it. that has always been kylo’s character since the very beginning. SO!!!!!
also the structural integrity of palp’s hideaway.... not great
palps: kill rey heh heh
kylo: i am absolutely not gonna do that but okay
omfg when kylo was like ME AND MY KNIGHTS OF REN ARE GOING HUNTING
i cannot explain to you how HILARIOUS the knights of ren are to me
they do nothing! they say nothing! they just stand around and look stupid in their stupid helmets..... i laughed every single time they were on screen
it’s like kylo’s uselessness manifests into what 6? 7 more useless things. the Knights of Ren
‘we’re going hunting’ are you TWELVE YEARS OLD
this film felt like it was going a million miles an hour, all the time, and that started for me in that first scene in the falcon which was going all over the place? for some reason?
anyway THERE’S A MOLE IN THE FIRST ORDER and i know it is hux but i kind of wanted it to be kylo on the side.... though i know he is not capable of any such subterfuge. about as subtle as a wrecking ball... and my SON
loved the comraderie with poe and finn. i liked the lived-in feeling of the relationships between the rebellion characters this time around
felt like they had that new alien dude in the falcon for no reason and for two seconds like... why
(to sell toys, of course. the same reason why they have a new tiny droid)
but that of course is just the first in a long line of new and underdeveloped characters in this movie. but you know what? i can accept this because the core emotional story was strong and also, it’s star wars? a big sprawling mess is what it has always, always been. ANYWHOMST
REY IN THE FOREST LEVITATING!!!!
the white outfit!!! how at one she is with nature??? SORRY IT WAS BEAUTIFUL
and okay the specific framing of rey and rey’s power in this movie as not only a part of the force but so specifically as a woman using the force... like the power of empathy! the power of healing!!! IT WAS BEAUTIFUL WHATEVER
when she called leia her MASTER? MY HEART
THE POWER OF WOMEN!!!
on the flip side, doesn’t it kind of feel like poe has a problem with women?
like as soon as he started riffing with rey i was like GET A JOB STAY AWAY FROM HER
but in hindsight i feel kind of better about them and their interactions... more on that later
FINN! finn in this movie was WONDERFUL
(except it annoyed me how they had the whole ‘there’s something i want to say to you’ and never had him say it... like even if he was going to say he loved rey okay just don’t leave it hanging like that?)
FORCE FUCKING SENSITIVE!!!!!!
look i really think they did they best they could with a really difficult job in incorporating leia and previous footage into this movie. it wouldn’t have felt right without her and the scenes were a bit clunky but again, a very very difficult thing to do
LEIA AND REY’S RELATIONSHIP..... MY HEART HURTS
i love that rey’s storyline has depth and motivation and kylo’s storyline is literally revolving around rey like she’s the sun
like i literally love this. MORE OF THIS!!!
FORCE BOND STILL EXISTSSSSSSSS
KNEW IT CALLED IT CLAIMED IT LOVE IT
the soft gasp rey does whenever kylo is about to show up for forceskype i love this song
the knights of ren standing around while kylo’s helmet got fixed omfg they are the stupidesttttt
kylo: maybe i don’t want to wear the helmet
the knights of ren: maybe shut the fuck up
Let’s Go To Burning Man
i actually kind of liked seeing these people doing their own cool cultural thing. like again this movie went at lightspeed but i did enjoy that. what’s better than this? just aliens being dudes
when rey talked to that little girl and she asked her last name i was like LOLLLL HERE WE GOOOOOOOO
as soon as lando showed up it was like ‘oh it’s lando’
‘i offered you my hand’
‘I’LL OFFER YOU MY HAND AGAIN’
WHY DID HE SAY THIS... LIKE IT WAS A PROPOSAL
I WAS SCREECHING SORRY... WOW.
i have never really found C3PO funny but um he was going off in this movie... when they all looked at him and then he looked away I CACKLED
and the mind wipe like whew man... one day we’re gonna have a conversation about Droids And The Uncomfortable Conclusions About Droids in these movies
but also, i wish they’d had the guts to stick with it and not restore his memory because, what a symbol for the past dying and the end of a saga? like 3PO has been there since the start!! the star wars live in his memory banks ???? and R2 as well i suppose
don’t think too long about this cause then you realise that for some reason they’re still using like 80 year old iphones and R2 and 3PO should be decommissioned for scraps
WHEN HE TOOK THE NECKLACE OFF HER I FOUND IT HOT I FOUND IT SEXY I FOUND IT UMMMM
the sand was a cool visual thing but then THE SNAKE
it felt so GREEK HERO MYTH but then rey stops the script!!
AND DOESN’T FIGHT IT
AND SHE HEALS IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
as soon as rey healed that snake i was like
‘kylo ren is that snake’
blah blah dagger blah
the sith language and being forbidden actually interests me. i want more proper sith lore
basically i want a revan and bastila movie. make it so
keri russell was WASTED in this movie
but that one scene with her and rey where they had Mutual Respect was so much better and more important than anything she did with poe
poe is like... sure i guess. i mean i liked him better in this movie than tlj and i liked him more as the movie when on but hmmst
but hey if i get to have a kylo then the poe people can have i poe. i begrudge no one
except, uh.... hux people. y’all really got done this movie huh. ouch
double as bad cause there was literally no point to the new general character. should have just been hux and then had him die in the final battle?
but i laughed when he was like ‘i don’t want you to WIN. i want kylo to LOSE’
THAT’S KING PETTY
omfg when kylo was like ‘where are you’ and then saw the vader mask and was like ‘oh you’re in my room’
SCREECHED
KYLO’S EVIL BOARD MEETING
LAUGHED MY ASS OFF
WHEN HE SMACKED THAT DUDE TO THE ROOF
sorry the first order is a startup. not even an ‘evil’ one especially because they’re all just a bit evil
when kylo reacted to that guy saying ‘we should take more children’ and the small thread winding through this movie about children being indoctrinated and rey and ben stopping THAT cycle.. important to me and i wish it had been bigger but i was glad it was there
all kylo did in the first half of this movie was chase after his girlfriend and tell her how they were meant to be together and that he wasn’t going to kill her even though he should. i love one stupid man
kylo flying his ship at rey deliberately wanting to ‘push her’ and her jumping over it and crashing the whole damn thing
and then him just getting up and walking out of the wreck not a scratch on him
like some kind of hero in a romance novel in his stupid cape lmfaoaoooo... you love to see it
THE PUSH/PULL WITH THE TRANSPORT?
THEIR POWERRRRRR
and then rey with her fuckin LIGHTNING
as soon as that happened i was like, oh lol rey palps then....
but also, THE LOOK OF WONDER BUT ALSO VICTORY ON KYLO’S FACE
ADAM DRIVER SIR
okay to be honest the whole soujourn to the like space swiss village is kind of a blur to me
keri russell was wasted, did i say that already?
although okay that bit when poe was like ‘were you a stormtrooper? were you a scavenger?’ maybe give him his rights
when kylo said WE’RE TWO PARTS OF THE SAME BEING
A DYAD
TWO WHO ARE AS ONE
two? WHO ARE? AS ONEEEEEE
NEITHER WHOLE WITHOUT THE MOTHERFUCKING OTHER I
‘i never lied to you’ AND HE NEVER HAS AND NEVER FUCKING DIDDD!!!!!
all the stormtroopers getting knocked back and kylo steadying himself with the force lol... it’s these little things ok
JODIE COMER?
rEy PaLpAtInE
I LAUGHED MY ASSSS OFFFFFFF
like... sure jj. sure
look, i have always understood and respected the choice to make rey ‘nobody’ (like anakin was! the force just makes who it needs to create the balance!) but if rey was going to be anyone i guess.... this is the best choice?
and i think there IS merit in the story going from ‘person burdened with legacy vs person with no legacy’ to ‘person with a legacy of good turning evil and person with a legacy of evil turning good’
i gotta think longer and more about this but. besides its inherent silliness i do not hate this ‘twist’
this movie jumped from planet to planet like a ping pong ball! it felt a bit jarring but my mum pointed out that the galaxy IS big and they’ve never really done this before and i was like hmmm Points Were Made
THE FIGHT ON THE OLD DEATH STAR
KYLO DODGING REY’S SWIPES AND NOT EVEN PULLING HIS SABER UNTIL HE HAD TO
THEN ONLY FIGHTING DEFENSIVELY
and her DESPERATION
ALMOST LIKE SHE’S FIGHTING HERSELF
BECAUSE THEY ARE TWO HALVES! OF ONE WHOLE!
and then oh my god
‘you can’t go back to her (leia). just like i can’t’
and the VICTORY in his eyes and the acknowledgment of the truth in hers
because THEY ARE THE SSSAAAAAAMMMMMMMMEEEE
when rey SCREECHED and force threw finn back.... oh fuck
(sidebar the way finn was so determinedly THERE for rey this whole movie... even when she said about the sith throne... his faith in her didn’t waver im verklempt)
WHEN HE DISAPPEARED AND REY LOOKED BACK HORRIFIED
because he can’t go! because the fight is what they have and what she’s clinging on to!
AND THEN HE WALKED UP OUT THE WATTTTEERRRRRRRRR
absolute romantic nonsense.
AND THEN
SHE KILLED HIM
SHE KILLED HIM!!!!!!
SHE KILLED KYLO REN WITH HIS OWN DAMN CRUCIFIX SWORD
I COULD NOT
BE LEEEEAAAF
THIS HAS BEEN MY DREAM ENDGAME SINCE THE START AND IT’S HERE TWO THIRDS THROUGH THE FUCKING LAST MOVIE?
A GIFT. LICH RALLY A GIFT TO MEEEEE
leia gave her LIFE for her SON I...
this was the only moment in the movie where i started to get some tears cause like... IT WAS JUST SO MUCH
AND REY.... TOOK LEIA’S ENERGY THROUGH THE FORCE...
AND SHE PUT HER HANDS ON HIM
AND SHE HEALED HIM
SHE’S A SCAVENGER
SHE FIXES BROKEN THINGGGGSSSSS
HE DIED BECAUSE SHE KILLED HIM
AND HE LIVES BECAUSE SHE HEALED HIM...
WHEN. WILL. YOUR. FAVES?????????
‘I WANTED TO TAKE YOUR HAND. BEN’S HAND’
take my hand? take my whole life too
IIRENGOWENRGKLJEWNGFKJBKJBKJBKJLB
ALL THE BEAUTIFUL WINDSWEPT CLOSE UP SHOTS OF KYLO’S BEAUTIFUL WINDSWEPT FACE IN THIS MOVIE. I WAS BREATHLESS
KYLO STNADING ON THE EDGE OF THAT SEA WITH THE WIND GOING AND HIS LEG OUT LIKE THE STUPID BYRONIC HERO HE IS
HEATHCLIFF? HEATHCLIFF ON THE MOOR?
HAN’S HAND ON BEN’S FACE
HE CALLED HIM. DAD
‘kylo ren is dead’
OHHHHHH BABBBBYYYYYY
look i loved the crossguard saber but i understood why it had to go
and like ben shedding the persona he had built as a defence mechanism... rey killed that part of him? powerful too powerful
i know i have rose coloured glasses because i care about the core story of kylo/rey enough and i’m passionate enough about it but okay the way they are entwined with one another on the journey to identity is the greatest thing a silly blockbuster series has maybe ever given me
it’s tam lin. IT’S FAIRY TALE NONSENSE AND I LOVE IT
i 100% know in my bones they wanted the scene with han to be leia but they obviously couldnt have that so that was fine. when ben turned his head around and heard her and felt her.... DONT LOOK AT ME
the most emotional moment in this movie was when chewie heard about leia and broke down and collapsed and screamed
:(
us too buddy. damn
rey stealing kylo’s ship and yeeting away lmfao
and when she went back to ach-to and burned it and was like IM STAYING HERE 4EVA >:(
she’s literally the exact same stupid reckless as kylo and i love
rose was wasted in this movie. very annoying
i DID laugh when they said ‘we should pull a holdo manoeuvre’ like of course that’s the one thing jj took from tlj. ohhhh jj
loved finn meeting the ex stormtrooper lady. i always felt like the one weakness of tlj is that it dropped this thread of finn’s indoctrination that i thought was being woven alongside rey and kylo’s issues with their childhoods in force awakens. the look of wonder on his face when she said that the whole battalion defected.... and saying the force lead them to do it like it lead him... and you could see john boyega feeling that with his whole heart!!!
i laughed at palps’ fleet of star destroyers that like all have death star capabilities now? so dumb
and also, a star destroyer is basically an aircraft carrier.... do you think the people who make star wars realise the empire is america? no...??? alright imma head out
missed opportunity for a shot of jar jar or a gungan when the galaxy fleet showed up like those towboats at dunkirk. to be HONEST
where did sheev palps find that stadium of goons? are they on retainer?
yeah so palpatine’s lair is the underworld and rey is eurydice and ben is orpheus. YEAH. YEAHHHHHHHHH
LEIA WAS TRAINED AS A MFING JEDI
THAT FLASHBACK WAS EVERYTHING FUCK
LEIA’S SABER!!!!!!!!!
i have Questions about leia ‘seeing her son dying at the end of her journey’ like ?
BUT HER PUTTING AWAY THE SABER TO PROTECT BEN!!!!
THIS FAMILY
fuck. benjy solo in that jumper.... USING A BLASTER LIKE HIS DAD.....
THE X WING AND THE TIE FIGHTER PARKED NEXT TO EACH OTHER!!!!!!!!!
PALPATINE CALLING THEIR BOND ‘AS POWERFUL AS LIFE AND THE FORCE ITSELF’
NOT FOR GENERATIONS HAS THEIR BEEN A DYAD LIKE THEM!!!
FUCKING
DESTINED
BITCH
THEY ARE EACH OTHER’S DESTINY? WOW SORRY.... WOWOWOOWOOWOWOOWOWOW
ben versus his idiot knights of ren.... yeah i love my son
sorry rey had a vision of her AND kylo sitting on the throne but the throne is.... one seat? what are the logistics here? her on his lap? him on her lap? both of them sitting on an armrest like awkward kids taking a photo with santa?
I THOUGHT ABOUT THIS FOR LIKE FIVE MINUTES COMPLETELY DISTRACTED
THE LITTLE SHRUG BEN DID WHEN HE GOT THE LIGHTSABER AND WAS LIKE ‘YEAH SORRY NOW YOU’RE GONNA DIE’
I SCREAMED. IM LOVE HIM
rey giving ben the saber through the force bond!!
ACROSS SPACE??? LOVE THAT TRANSCENDS THE WORLD
palpatine taking, SPECIFICALLY, the power of rey and kylo’s BOND to strengthen himself because it is THE STRONGEST THING IN THE FUCKING UNIVERSE???????? CANONICALLY????????
REY AND BEN FIGHTING WITH LUKE AND LEIA’S SABERS

I LOVE HIM. I LOVE HIM SO MUCH I CAN’T STAND IT A LITTLE

Ways Kylo Ren could’ve been been used better and a better villain
My other Sequel trilogy wasted potential posts
Rey
Finn
Poe
Rose
Luke
Han
Leia
Captain Phasma
Hux
Snoke
Make Kylo handle the Lor San Tekka situation better. The man who has or had the map to Skywalker is right there. Show Kylo’s villainy and ruthlessness by forcing Lor San Tekka to comply. Order the village massacre right there and force Lor San Tekka to watch until he tells you what you want or just use the force probe right then and there, Poe’s interference causes Kylo to lose focus and causes Kylo to lobotomize Lor San Tekka which brings us to Kylo getting Poe. It would show how far in the dark side Kylo Ren is and what he will do to get what he wants
Instead of the tantrums, have Kylo Ren kill FO officers right then and there with his Lightsaber, it shows that he has no regard for human life and his only focus is to fulfill his mission.
Keep the mask on until Kylo faces Han Solo. It would mean a whole lot more if Kylo was masked throughout the entire movie and only takes his mask off to Han Solo. We would see through Han’s eyes, a father’s eyes that his son has been twisted into something he doesn’t recognize, but still tries to reach out to his son.
Ben Solo would fall to the dark side as a child. I feel like this would stick to the theme that Rey, Finn and Kylo are all abandoned children. This would also show that Kylo and Finn are both child soldiers, only Kylo embraced the dark side and the First Order, while Finn chose to walk away from it and embrace the light.
Reveal that Ben Solo fell to the dark side and became Kylo Ren because his family did not tell him the truth that Darth Vader was his grandfather. Leia chose to hid the fact that Darth Vader was his grandfather and did not tell him that Vader redeemed himself. The New Republic publicly spread the news that Darth Vader was Leia’s true father, so Ben could have seen that at Luke’s Jedi Temple. It could’ve been a similar situation after Luke found out the truth. “Ben, why didn’t you tell me.” “Mother…you lied to me….” this can be seen as a darker mirror of Luke and Obi-Wan’s relationship. Luke did feel a little betrayed by Obi-Wan and Yoda, but did not let the truth consume him. Ben Solo would let this consume him. He feels betrayed by his family and those feelings of resentment lead Snoke to Ben Solo. He promises a place where he would never be lied to again and valued and where he can learn more of his grandfather. So Ben betrays his family, kills the Jedi and becomes Kylo Ren because the truth of Anakin was kept from him and because of that Snoke twisted the view of Vader’s fall being compassion and Kylo idolized Vader and viewed Anakin as weakness. He wants to destroy everything his family built out of spite and finish what Vader started, which was kill his master, the Jedi and rule the galaxy.
Kylo Ren’s motivation is that he wants to kill his family and be a stronger and better Vader, one not held back by sentiment or compassion and spread The First Order’s dominance across the galaxy and bring true order to a galaxy held back by weakness and corruption.
Have Kylo Ren be sent to Darth Vader’s castle on Mustafar to complete his training. Allowing the dark side energies within Vader’s castle and what remains of Vader to strengthen the dark side within him to snuff out the light. We would later see Snoke teaching him the flaws of the Jedi and Sith and why they must destroy the Jedi and Sith. Their goal isn’t to do over Palpatine and Vader. Their goal is to end both orders and to serve the dark side to let it and The First Order reign supreme. Snoke teaching him the ways of the dark side, using torture and force lightning to draw Kylo’s rage to bring out his full potential in the dark side of the force. We needed to see Sith training. We never once got to see it, so we needed to see it with Snoke and Kylo Ren. And Snoke gives his apprentice one final test. Killing his mother General Leia Organa and drawing out Luke Skywalker.
Have The Supremacy board The Raddus and Kylo leads an attack to kill everyone aboard. Leia offers herself to be taken hostage, Kylo Ren takes his mother as hostage while The Resistance is spared.
Actually give us scenes of Kylo and Leia instead of force bond scenes with Kylo and Rey. It bothers me that there is not a single scene with Kylo Ren and Leia. No scene with mother and son and because Carrie is no longer with us, we will never get to see Carrie and Adam act together. So we desperately need to see Kylo Ren interacting with Leia aboard The Supremacy. Unlike a force connection with Rey, this provides an endless amount of interesting scenes and dialogue between two characters who have no screen time relationship whatsoever but are probably the closest people in the movie. Plus Star Wars has had no mother and son relationship since Anakin and Shmi Skywalker. We could have Kylo raging at his mother for leaving him and abandoning him, and Leia breaking down about Han and Kylo vowing to destroy everything that his family has built. Kylo will rip off his mask to show his scar and the dark side corruption. “LOOK AT MY FACE MOTHER, IS THIS WHAT YOU WANTED TO SEE? AS I TOLD HAN SOLO, YOUR SON IS GONE, HE WAS WEAK AND FOOLISH!” With his eyes pitch Sith Yellow, a single tear leaves his eye and Leia wipes it. Even in his darkest days, Leia is there for her son, as a mother should be. Leia will tell her son "Your father loved you to the very end, he never stopped searching or believing in you he was finally there for you in the end. We were so caught up with our work we couldn’t be with you as much as we would have wanted, as much as you needed. And sending you away with your uncle, when you needed us the most, was the biggest mistake of our lives. I’m sorry.” Kylo will scream and lash out at equipment after failing to go through with it.
Kylo fighting Rey while Luke fights Snoke. Kylo gets the upperhand and cuts Rey’s hand off
After Luke kills Snoke and Rey loses her hand to Kylo, we will see Luke face Kylo. This time it is more emotional and less jokey. Luke has to face his nephew who killed his students and burned his temple to the ground. He has to face the nephew who killed Han and came close to killing Leia. No matter what Ben was, he has to stop him. He has to stop him from killing Rey. An actual Lightsaber duel between Luke and Kylo Ren. Luke has his green lightsaber. Their blades clash. Their dialogue remains the same, but Luke is there. Luke is toying with Kylo, similar to how Vader toyed with him on Bespin. When Kylo makes his dramatic slut ™ lunge at Luke, but Luke dodges and cuts Kylo’s hand off. And finally Luke gives his “see you around kid” and takes Rey to escape
Cut the battle of Crait entirely. After Kylo Ren awakens. Kylo will order Hux to pullback their fleet. They needed to regroup on Mustafar with the other Knights of Ren. General Hux explodes in rage, stating that he does not take orders from the supreme leader’s dog. Hux then feels his throat closing and grabs his neck. The Imperial March plays as Kylo Ren declares himself supreme leader of the First Order. Hux barely manages to take out his blaster and shoots Ren in order to free himself. Hux threatens Kylo that if he were to die, then Kylo will never make it off of the ship alive. They will either work together or both die. Kylo releases the general and says from here on out the First Order will focus on their true mission. Kylo declares Hux as the Grand Marshal of the First Order. Hux orders his fleet to pull back, and says that Kylo better pray the force isn’t leading him astray. The Grand Marshal then leaves. The new Supreme Leader casts one last look at the planet, then turns away.
In TROS Kylo and the Knights Of Ren’s mission is to find the last known Holocron of Emperor Palpatine to guide them in their final journey of the dark side and with that, the final means to crushing The Resistance and the Last Jedi
Kylo Ren’s new outfit will look like one of the two pictures below but with the First Order insignia on the back of his cape, his newly upgraded helmet and Darth Vader’s armor on his chest, Vader styled gloves, Pauldrons and leg braces. For zooming in on the third picture
By the time his helmet is knocked off, Kylo’s eyes will be pitch yellow, showing that Kylo Ren has given himself fully to the dark side, also Adam gets to keep his glorious beard.
Kylo Ren will have a flagship of his own. The Hegemony. It will be influence from the beautiful fan concept artwork of Romain d'Escrienne. It is massive. Eclipses the Supremacy. It’s not only a Star Destroyer with a mini Death Star, but it’s also large enough to launch Star Destroyers from it’s sidebays. The Hegemony will be the ultimate tool to spread the might of The First Order and the final destruction of The Resistance.
After finding the holocron, Kylo is tasked with finding the last known kyber crystal in the galaxy in order to finish Kylo’s personal fleet, the Sith fleet. It is on Endor on the remains of the death star.
The Knights Of Ren. The Knights Of Ren will be revealed as the Jedi who followed Kylo Ren. We will see companionship between Kylo and his knights. We need to see them as being Kylo’s personal army and trump card. Unlike The Praetorian Guards who were faceless Guards who all just die. Let the Knights Of Ren be people and only unmask in the presence of their Supreme Leader and show them as Kylo’s only true family in his eyes. We know that the purpose of The Knights Of Ren will destroy The Resistance and finally destroy The Last Jedi.
The final battle will be between Kylo and the Knights Of Ren and the new Jedi, the Skywalkers who will be Rey, Finn, Poe, Rose and Jannah. The fight will take place on Vader’s castle on Mustafar. It ends in Kylo’s defeat and Rey severs his connection to the force and live the rest of his days out imprisoned for war crimes against the galaxy.
Kylo Ren ending the sequel trilogy as a disgraced and jailed war criminal seems to be the only realistic solution the more I think about it. Leia doesn't lose her son but he faces consequences for his crimes.
What they chose to do with Kylo instead
Killing Lor San Tekka. Kylo Ren’s introduction and murder of Lor San Tekka introduces a menacing villain, it also introduces the fact that Kylo Ren is a fucking idiot. You have the man who had the map to Skywalker. You could have forced him to comply. Order the village massacre right there and force Lor San Tekka to tell you or just use the force probe right then and there, but Kylo chooses to stupidly kill Lor San Tekka.
Kylo Ren knows the map is on Jakku. He chooses to let the Stormtroopers get the droid when he does not have faith in them.
How am I supposed to feel that a villain is a threat when he is throwing tantrums and destroying expensive equipment? Vader force choked Imperial Officers who failed him. Rather than do that, Kylo lashes out and destroys equipment on the ship. I’m honestly surprised Kylo has not bankrupted the First Order by now.
Kylo keeps taking his mask off. This is not an insult to Adam Driver, he is a handsome man. But it just cheapens the reveal if he shows it to Rey. It would mean a whole lot more if Kylo was masked throughout the entire movie and only takes his mask off to Han Solo. We would see through Han’s eyes, a father’s eyes that his son has been twisted into something he doesn’t recognize, but still tries to reach out to his son. I honestly feel like Kylo taking his mask off earlier cheapens the reveal. I know unmasking is supposed to showcase that he turned to the dark side at a young age….but Adam Driver is in his 30′s.
No training between Kylo Ren and Snoke. Snoke does not train Kylo. Snoke said that he would complete Kylo’s training when he told Hux to bring Kylo Ren to him at the end of TFA. Yes, he did fail him and he sensed his father in him, but I really thought we’d see Snoke sending Kylo to Vader’s castle on Mustafar to allow the dark side energies in the castle and what remains of Vader to strengthen the dark side within him to snuff out the light. Killing Han broke his spirit, but he could use the castle to complete Kylo Ren’s training. Then we would see Snoke personally train Kylo himself. Snoke begins by telling Kylo the Sith code ” Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The Force shall free me.” teaching him the ways of the dark side, using torture and force lightning to draw Kylo’s rage to bring out his full potential in the dark side of the force. We needed to see Sith training. We never once got to see it, so we needed to see it with Snoke and Kylo Ren.
You expect us to sympathize with Kylo Ren with those flashbacks....when no one was chosen to play a young Ben Solo. Adam Driver was the one to do it. He literally chose the dark side as a fully grown adult, there is nothing sympathetic about a grown ass man willingly choosing to massacre a temple full of children.
That pointless shirtless scene.
The laughable and terrible Throne Room fight scene. There is no tension in the scene and it is pointless. Kylo Ren and Rey are fighting a faceless a group of guards that we know absolutely nothing about and have literally no purpose in the entire story except for this one fight. We know neither of the characters are going to die because these are just faceless red shirts and there is still like 30 to 40 minutes left of the movie. There are times where you can tell that some of the guards are just waiting their turn to fight and in one shot the editor literally digitally removed a knife from one of the guard’s hands because it would make no sense why he didn’t just stab Rey. There are multiple times where Rey, Kylo and the guards are just doing motions and actions because they look cool but serve no purpose but to look cool. Kylo stabbing the ground? Pointless. Rey twirling her rave stick around while someone falls behind her, pointless. Another annoying thing is that both of the characters are acting like they don’t have monumentally strong force powers. Hell, both of them get into a force tug of war right after the fight. Kylo can freeze people in place and stop blaster fire in mid air. Not even once do we see them displaying their powers is what cheapens the fight. Kylo Ren is powerful enough to freeze a blaster and a person in place and Rey herself unlocked Kylo’s powers, so the two of them could have easily ended the fight sooner than it was dragged out. Kylo is powerful in the force but he SERIOUSLY could not stop a Praetorian Guard choke holding him and Rey struggled with a guard? Rey and Kylo were stronger in TFA and are just made weaker in the duel with the Praetorian Guards. Kylo could have frozen half of the guards and Rey could have mind tricked the other half into killing the frozen guards and Kylo and Rey could have finished them. They are masters of light and darkness, but they are made weaker.
A force connection between Kylo Ren and Rey. None of these characters have a reason to trust one another. Kylo should be furious. He has been humiliated and defeated by this random Scavenger from Jakku, especially after being berated and humiliated by Snoke about said defeat. Kylo has done nothing but hurt Rey. It’s obvious Kylo has been manipulating Rey all movie, but it’s just so poorly executed. If anyone honestly believed Kylo about calling Rey’s parents filthy junk traders, they are gullible. Kylo was not being sincere or truthful about calling Rey’s parents nobodies. He’s attacking her biggest insecurity, her greatest fear, that her parents were nobodies. “They were filthy junk traders who died on Jakku” we see visibly in TFA that her parents were flying away from Jakku. And if anyone actually find Kylo’s “You’re nobody, but not to me” romantic, I honestly hope you never find yourself in a relationship with someone who would say something like that. That is text book abuse 101. That is a clear example of psychological manipulation. He’s attacking her biggest insecurity, her greatest fear, that she’s alone in the universe, and using the classic abuser’s tactic of “no one else but me loves you, so you should be with me. Aren’t you grateful?” He’s trying to cut her off from the people who love her, who made her feel worthwhile, and who helped to give her purpose in life, by saying they don’t care about the “real her.” But he apparently “sees” the real her and knows who she is and that doesn’t matter to him. That is STRAIGHT out of the How to Be an Abusive Asshole Handbook! If anyone sees this as love, I sincerely hope you never find yourself in a relationship.
The worst offense about what they did with Kylo Ren is how horribly and lazily written his actual reason or lack there of for choosing the dark side. Okay by all canon sources, the reason Ben Solo turned to the dark side is he turned to the dark side, killed The Jedi, betrayed his family and joined The First Order because his family was trying to build a better galaxy for him…… Because Han and Leia chose to put their life into the rebellion and not enough time into him, that’s why he fell. “My loving parents who doted on me and gave me the best in life also wanted to help other people and rebuild a wartorn galaxy. It makes me so mad just thinking of it!” And Rian Johnson in his “sUbVeRt ExPeCTaTiOnS” edgelord philosophy decided it would be best if Luke Skywalker, a man who thought Darth Vader, the most evil man in the galaxy who has 20 years of war crimes in his life, believed the good man he used to be was alive, was willing to die for his father and was able to save his father, yet somehow Johnson thought it would be better to make Luke Skywalker, the most hopeful character to try and kill his nephew in his sleep instead of ACTUALLY TALKING TO HIM LIKE LUKE SKYWALKER WOULD ACTUALLY DO. Luke, Han and Leia are not and should not be responsible for Kylo Ren’s actions and their characters did not need to be broken down for his development, or lack there of. The lesson apparently is spend more time with your child instead of building a better world for him otherwise he’ll shoot up a school, join a fascist organization and blame his every action on his family and constantly harass and gaslight the one girl who peaks his interest.
Despite Kylo’s newly repaired mask looking awesome, it looks like it will be barely used in TROS.
Kylo will fight Rey for a final time and that’s just boring. Give us a rematch between Kylo and Finn or Rey and Finn facing Kylo and KOR already
Rey and Kylo teaming up to fight Palpatine is so...boring.
Kylo Ren is a terrible villain. When written well, Kylo Ren is a well-rounded antagonist that broke the clichés of most of modern villains. Kylo Ren was a complex and layered character who wasn’t glorified or idealized for his morally wrong actions and chose to embrace his darker side than to chose redemption. He is the Skywalker who chose to burn down everything his family built. However the problem is Kylo merely an illusion of depth, just like the rest of this trilogy. This becomes evident when you put him up against other, better villains. When compared to great villains like Loki, Darth Vader and Eric Killmonger, it just feels like Kylo is a terrible and bland villain. We understand what launched these characters into their villainy, and it builds sympathy for their situation. Over the course of the films, we learn their plan, what they believe in, and see how they carry out their vision. No such thing has happened for Kylo; he’s largely inconsistent and really we don’t know why he or the First Order are attacking the protagonists other than “Hope” or something. Even when compared to Anakin, he’s far less of a character, regardless of how you feel about his dialogue or acting. Anakin had a legitimately crappy childhood, and was told to let go of the people he loved. He does bad things, but it’s clear he doesn’t want to. Especially in RotS he tries his absolute hardest to do the right thing, but when faced with losing Padme, he changed his mind at the last minute. He shows true conflict in his actions, whereas with Kylo Ren, we have to be told that he was sad after killing Han Solo. With TLJ there is more damage done. Kylo has been so “moody” it’s difficult to take him seriously. When Snoke died, it made me feel like there was no longer an antagonist. TLJ castrated Hux, the FO is incompetent, and Kylo is a moody teenager. There’s no serious tension left. Kylo is just a whiny psychopath who has no reason to be evil, but decides to be evil anyway, but we’re supposed to believe that he’s “conflicted” about his psychotic actions because he’s teary eyed every time he slaughters innocent people, and loses his temper like a child whenever someone offends him. And what really blows my mind is how some that want redemption for him believe he will make a total 180 on a dime and suddenly become a wise, benevolent leader whom the galaxy respects. This dude hasn’t shown an ounce of political savvy, charisma, or even self-restraint, I’d be shocked if he manages to run anything properly as Supreme Leader. JJ will have my respect if he can turn Kylo Ren into an unhinged monster worthy of being afraid of

Rumor Has It: a cracky reylo ficlet wherein Rey catches the Supreme Leader reading a trashy tabloid about their maybe-bond.
Maybe they should be used to it by now—the bond that connects them through the Force. But still, each time it opens across the Galaxy, it manages to take them by surprise.
This time is no different, only Kylo is so engrossed in the article displayed on his datapad that he doesn’t realize Rey is there until she sighs—loudly and pointedly—from underneath the thin blanket that covers the steel framed bed on her side of the bond.
Kylo jumps at the sound and fumbles with the buttons on the display, dropping the datapad to the ground in the process.
Rey turns to glare at him, fully prepared to lecture him—again—on the pattern of their planets’ shifting sleep cycles, but she stops short when she catches sight of his fumbling hands and burning cheeks.
It’s a lovely shade of red, really, not unlike the spitting crimson of his saber, and it’s slowly creeping from the apples of his cheeks to the tips of his ears, which just barely stick out from under his new Supreme Leader haircut.
Rey moves to a sitting position and narrows her eyes.
“What were you doing?”
She swears he goes a shade redder as he finally manages to snatch the datapad from the floor and power the screen off.
“Nothing,” he replies coolly, a failed attempt at nonchalance. “What—what are you doing?”
- Continue reading below the cut or on Ao3 -
“Sleeping,” Rey answers dryly. “Or trying to at least. You see, different planets have different light cycles. Mine is approximately—”
“Four hours and thirty-six minutes ahead of mine,” he cuts in. “Yes, you’ve told me.”
“And yet here you are, clattering around like a luggabeast.”
“I wasn’t clattering, I was…” He trails off, eyes roaming to the ceiling and then to the floor.
“You were…” Rey prompts.
He pauses, mouth opening, then closing once before opening again.
“Reading,” he finally says, a bit faintly.
“Reading.”
“Yes, reading.”
And the flush is back in full force. Only this time, it spreads down his neck to the sliver of chest Rey can see just above the collar of his night shirt—black as space, as if he would dare wear any other color.
Rey’s gaze moves between that flush and the datapad clutched tight in his hands. He seems downright uncomfortable, fidgety even. Something she’s never seen him be before. Intense? Yes. Shirtless and unabashed? Also yes. But embarrassed? That one is new.
“Let’s hear it then,” she says, amused—and perhaps a little intrigued—by the idea of a flustered Kylo Ren. “It’s the least you could do, now that I’m awake.”
“No,” he blanches. “It’s, uh, it’s just damage reports. From Hux. Very dry, lots of numbers. Bore you to death.”
“Or to sleep?” Rey offers, an impish grin rising on her lips.
Ben’s grip tightens around the datapad and he runs a nervous hand through his hair, though his lips remain firmly shut.
“You’re hiding something,” she says, placing one bare foot on the floor. “What is it?”
“Nothing. It’s—just reports, like I said. Classified information.”
Her other foot comes to rest next to the other one, freeing her legs from the blanket.
“Liar.”
She stands.
“Really, Rey, I’d rather not do this,” he implores as he takes a step back from her.
“And I rather would,” she replies a second before she pounces, arms raised and hands outstretched.
She’s faster and lighter and she has the element of surprise, but still he manages to wrench the datapad from her grip half a breath after her fingers close around it.
He lifts it in the air, too far above her head for her to reach, so she ducks down instead, swiping one leg across the back of both his knees so that he falls to the ground in a heap. Rey snatches the datapad and darts to the other side of the room before he has a chance to move.
“Rey,” he warns with all the menace of a porg’s call as he slowly gets to his feet.
But she’s already powering up the screen, heart beating fast and a triumphant smile on her face.
She’s really quite pleased with herself if she’s being honest, but the smug satisfaction quickly dies as she reads the words written across the top of the page:
LOVE ON THE BATTLEFIELD: Are Kylo Ren and Rey of Jakku MORE than Enemies? A Star-Crossed Story For the Ages.
“What is this?” she manages to croak.
Ben sighs as he runs another hand through his hair.
“It’s an article.”
Rey’s eyes flit briefly to his.
“About you. And about me. About—about us?”
Now it’s her turn to flush. She can practically feel the splotchy redness rising on her face.
“It’s just gossip, silly rumors. You shouldn’t read it—”
“Oh, I’m reading it,” she exclaims. “If people are writing things about me, about us, then I should know what they’re saying.”
He sighs again, a dramatic thing that makes his shoulders sag.
“Fine,” he relents, crossing his arms. “I obviously can’t stop you. Be my guest.”
Rey resists the urge to roll her eyes before turning her gaze once more to the glowing datapad in her hands. And then she starts to read:
“The Galaxy’s citizens have watched with interest as the First Order has grown from a small political faction to an all-powerful war machine determined to unite the planets in our system under the rule of a singular leader, of the supreme variety—”
“Do you really need to read it out loud?” Ben interjects.
Rey fixes him with a stare. “I clearly interrupted you, I thought you might like to hear how it ends.”
Ben tips his head to the ceiling, shaking it slightly before gesturing for her to continue.
“While the regime has so far managed to secure control of most planets in the Mid Rim—only because we weren’t prepared for an attack of that size—"
“—It’s not my fault you’re using outdated tech and half-gutted speeders—”
“—Actually, it is! Or have you forgotten the fact that you destroyed our base?”
“That was Snoke’s call, not mi—"
“—As if you wouldn’t have done the same—"
“—and we’ve so far managed to avoid direct contact with your new base if you haven’t noticed--"
“—far be it from me to question the Supreme Leader’s military strategy—"
“—I don’t give a kriff about strategy, I’m trying to keep you alive!”
Rey’s next words die on her lips as Ben's seem to echo off the walls of his chambers and across the bond. She licks her lips, suddenly unsure what to say, but Ben takes a single solid breath, ribs expanding and constricting under his shirt as he gestures weakly to the datapad.
“Just—keep reading.”
Rey clears her throat and begins a bit shakily:
“It hasn’t been the smoothest of flying for newly minted Supreme Leader Kylo Ren. His opposition comes in the form of a small, but mighty group of individuals known as the Resistance—headed up by none other than the Supreme Leader’s mother herself, General Leia Organa. She’s joined by fresh faced Rey of Jakku, otherwise known as the Last Jedi.
Kylo and Rey have come to blows no less than three times, with the former scavenger directly contributing to the First Order’s defeat on Starkiller Base. There’s no denying that sparks seem to be flying between the rivals—and not only from their lightsabers.” Rey looks up from the datapad. “What does that mean? ‘Sparks seem to be flying’?”
Ben only shakes his head. “Just read.”
“Though there have been rumors of a familial connection between the two—” Rey scoffs. “What, like we’re sisters?”
Ben’s lips spread into a smile—an actual smile with dimples and crinkles around the eyes that Rey tries very hard not to notice.
“Brother and sister,” he corrects. “But yes, something like that. Just keep going.”
“—But those closest to the Supreme Leader say otherwise. ‘He’s totally gaga for the sand rat,’ says one unnamed source. ‘It’s embarrassing, really, not to mention traitorous given her allegiance to the very group of terrorists the First Order is working to eradicate.’”
“Terrorists?” Rey scoffs, choosing to ignore the ‘gaga’ comment. “The Resistance is trying to restore order, not dismantle it.”
“As is the First Order,” Ben shoots back.
“Yes, by brute force and with no regard for personal liberties or the sovereignty of already established nations.”
Ben only sighs. They’ve had this conversation before after all. More times than Rey can count.
“Okay, okay. Less talking, more reading. Got it.”
She scrolls further down on the page before continuing, “Another source from the Jedi’s camp disclosed, on the condition of anonymity, that Rey refuses to discuss the series of events which led to her presence on board the Supremacy (a Mega-class Star Dreadnought) where former Supreme Leader Snoke met his untimely end. ‘She comes back to the Resistance—new outfit, hair down, wearing mascara and tries to tell us nothing happened between her and emo space boy. Don’t let the good looks fool you, pal, this brain’s firing on all cylinders and I’m telling you something is up.’”
“I was not wearing mascara,” Rey retorts weakly, making a mental note to murder Poe in the morning.
And is she imagining it or has Ben somehow gotten closer? She could have sworn he was standing on the other side of the room when she started reading. Now he’s close enough for her to count the beauty marks on his face—not that she would. But the point is she could, if for some reason that was something she decided to do.
Ben just stares down at her and his eyes are bright even though the room is dark and his tongue slips out to wet his bottom lip before he speaks.
“Your hair was different,” he says, causing Rey to flush again at the memory.
“It came down when I fell in that creepy darkside hole,” she counters, back straight and hands clenched into fists by her side.
He steps a little closer and Rey catches his scent. Is it possible for someone to smell like the sun when they’re stuck in the endless expanse of space? Rey isn’t sure, but she breathes it in again anyway.
“It looked nice that way.”
Rey swallows. “It—it did?”
“Yes,” he breathes and Rey swears she feels it ghost along her face. “I like it this way too, though,” he continues, raising a hand to tuck a stray lock back behind her ear.
It’s the first time they’ve touched in months. Since the Supremacy, since her hand gripped around his thigh in the midst of battle. It’s barely anything, just a stroke of fingers against her temple, but it lights her nerves on fire and she shivers even though she isn’t cold.
“Are you going to keep reading?”
“What?” Rey asks, then remembering the datapad still gripped in her hand. The article—what did it say? Something about a spark?
“Right,” she clears her throat. “Yes, it seems something is up indeed. The only question is, will the maybe-star crossed lovers find some middle ground to stand (nay, lay) on? Or will this galactic will they/won’t they end in tragedy? It appears the Galaxy will just have to wait and see.”
Silence falls between them as Rey reaches the end of the article. Loud silence in which she’s sure she can hear her own heart beating much too fast. Or is it Ben’s?
“Well,” she says after a moment. “That was ridiculous, wasn’t it?”
Ben doesn’t answer. He just keeps staring down at her with an impossible look on his face and Rey has to try very hard not to step back. Or maybe she has to try not to step forward, she isn’t quite sure.
“Just gossip,” she continues, a bit hysterically. “Like you said. Silly rumors.”
Ben steps closer, closing what little space was left between them. She has to crane her neck to see into his eyes and is his skin always so warm? His hand was—that night on Ahch-To—but she can feel it emanating from his chest now. A delicious heat that jumps from his skin to hers and before she can stop herself, she shivers again.
Rey’s breath feels stuck in her throat as Ben tilts his head to the side, the way he once did when he still wore a mask.
“And what if it isn’t?” he asks. “Just rumors, that is.”
“It--,” she tries, stopping to force air into her lungs. “It would be a very bad idea.”
Ben’s lips quirk around the edges.
“The worst.”
“We’d probably end up killing each other, blowing up the other’s ship or something.”
“It does seem likely.”
“But—”
“—But?”
And he is very close now. Too close. Closer maybe than she’s ever been to another person. She waits for her instincts to kick in—the ones that tell her to fight or run or both, but they lay dormant, perfectly at ease in whatever part of her brain they live in.
So when he dips his head to brush his lips against hers, she doesn’t move away. She leans in to bring him that much closer.
His lips are warm against hers and even if they don’t quite know what they’re doing, they manage to find a rhythm anyway. A push and pull—sweet and frantic, wet and warm. Perfect.
The bond pulses, the Force hums around them, and somewhere on the floor, beneath a growing pile of clothes, the light from a datapad flickers and goes out.

Scattered Star Wars comics thoughts: - I’m trying to catch up on canon comics, because I have a surprising amount of them that I haven’t yet read and I want to at least feel like I’m less behind than I was last week. The problem is that I keep going for the ones I know I’m going to have a ton of thoughts about, so last night when I couldn’t sleep, I started on Dark Lord of the Sith again (I’m only 2-3 issues behind now!) and I got two issues done in two hours because I kept trying to tease them apart and pull out all the little things I wanted to say! And even then I feel like I only captured half of what I want to say. - I’m also reading Shattered Empire and it’s SO BEAUTIFUL. In a way, I’m almost sad that Checchetto was on this title because his art is SO STUNNING and it’s wasted on SO MANY BATTLE SCENES. His Shara and Kes are stunning, his Luke and Leia and Han are also wonderful, but SO MANY BATTLE SCENES. And they’re gorgeous! But I feel like he’s an artist I would rather see drawing people instead. For comparison, as much as I adore Camuncoli’s art, I think he’s better at non-people things. Vader’s mask, action scenes, stunning Forcescapes, all things I could stare at forever! But his Obi-Wan and even his Padme aren’t very strong for me. Anakin and Palpatine can largely get away with it, because they’re supposed to be less than beautiful now, but on a very shallow level, I enjoy his art for other things instead. Which isn’t to knock his art, I LOVE HIS WORK, he’s very good at creating a mood and creating a visually stimulating comic for me, I wouldn’t change the artist on Dark Lord of the Sith at all. Just noting strengths and weaknesses. - I’m enjoying the comic for the look at Poe’s parents and the scenes of aftermath of Return of the Jedi and how the battle’s not over yet, but only two issues in (just starting #3 now) and it does feel very much like a gap-filler, rather than something that’s it’s own adventure. But that might be just because of where my own interests lie--ie, I’m super here for those worldbuilding snippets, since I want to know so much about the aftermath of ROTJ. It is wonderful to see Naboo and Queen Soruna! Even if it’s in the middle of Operation: Cinder. I love love love the repurposing of that Padme concept art for Soruna’s Queen outfit! I love seeing her toss her wig off and join in the fight! And, boy, am I gonna have feelings about Leia wearing Naboo clothing! Looking forward to the final issue, where I know there’s a lot of Luke stuff and stuff with the Jedi Tree. - I haven’t yet finished Han Solo (2015) yet, it’s sort of in the same boat--it’s not my set of characters, so I’m slower to read it, have less thoughts, it’s not making me scream in the same way, but I definitely enjoy it and the art is SO GORGEOUS. I can’t say it’s a must-read for me, but that’s absolutely nothing against it, it’s just not my usual area.

Watching The Last Jedi Thoughts and Reactions
I’ve been obsessed with reading Reylo fan fiction since the opening night I saw TLJ. Ive seen this movie a lot but thought it would be fun to watch it again and react. I guess I had a lot to comment on Rose and Finn and also DJ. Enjoy~
Wow these opening credits are super vague…
I really love this opening scene it’s 100% my favorite Star Wars opening.
Carrie Fishers daughter is super cool. Hux looks v tired and/or on drugs.
Sansa’s insane aunt from Game of Thrones. Love BB-8, I ship Poe and Hux more then Hux and Kylo tho. “punch it!” I love that they have enough time to say cute one liners when piloting a ship. THIS SCENE IS EDITED SO FUCKING WELL THOOOO. Its literally FLAWLESSLY edited. 2nd “punch it!” When the bombers show up my heart starts beating faster, my favorite action sequence ever. Not even thinking about how theres no gravity in space. I love Paige so much! Have I ever seen a asian woman save the day in a movie ever? Why are her hands so beautiful? I LOVE THE COSTUMES OF THIS MOVIE. I wonder where Kylo is? Finn bb!! I wonder why he’s in a storage room? This movie is SO SEXUAL. Love me some beautiful island porn. LOVE that Luke throws the saber, love subverting expectations. “Master Skywalker?” is so cute I have such a crush on Rey. Wow the huts are so cute. Daisy is literally so beautiful, want to be and also kiss her. Progs, so cute. Rey literally doesn’t waste anything love it she takes the books later also. “Where’s Han?” and then cuts to Kylo love it. The fuck is a “cur”? ADAM DRIVER fuck. This room is so red, its so pretty. This movie is visually STUNNING. Ben’s hair is fucking glorious, also look at those LIPS! I just want him to be with Rey and happy. Ben is fucking loosing his mind Ryan made him look so broken I love it. “Prepare my ship!” is so sexy. Rey’s accent is so perfect. Literally what Luke said he doesn’t want to do he does by the end of the movie. Love poncho Rey! This island is so fucking cool I need more high quality pictures going around. The green milk is so funny. I love that Rey looks away from the creature in embarrassment but then not Ben’s naked chest. I need to take so many screenshots of this movie, theres so many moments people forget! Rey in the tree, so beautiful, I can’t wait to find out id those books give us any information next film. I hope the next film starts with the vision Rey and Ben saw next film. I want to see Reys dreams. I miss Carrie.
Poe is so annoying, Leia is so right. What a great line, “get your head out of your cockpit”. How does Finn know what the binary beacon is? THIS is when shit goes down. I really like that everything in this movie goes wrong. “Follow my lead” so sexy. Ben is literally crying feeling his mothers presence. And yet people thing this isn’t a redemption story. *shakes my head* Even The First Orders uniforms are so crispty its beautiful. I really like that Leia saved herself. Finn looks so good in that jacket I’m so excited for his blue pants look. Chewy and Porgs is all I ever needed. The lights in the cockpit of the falcon are really beautiful. The shots in this movie are GORGEOUS. I feel like R2 has a really dirty mouth. I can’t wait for Ben and Rey to escape with the falcon from somewhere and then takeout. IM SO READY. Luke is kinda creepy? Never liked Luke, Leia should have been the protagonist of the original trilogy. HOLDO is a BABE! Love her look and tone and everything she saids is bomb. I love that she talks about everyone else in the galaxy and the importance of keeping everyone hopeful. Why is there so much sexual tension between Poe and EVERYONE? I do feel like Poe is bi tho. Holdo is RIGHT, Poe is annoying and a dick. Sorry I don’t make the rules. He’s hot but wrong. Finn and Rose are so GOOD, it makes me so happy this whole scene. I’m sorry bb Rose I wish I could give her a hug. “Doing talking…” haha I love Kelly so much. Rose is v smart and I love that she stuns him and then drags him. DRAG HIM GIRL. All the men in this movie are making mistakes and the women are being smart this is true to life. Rose and Finn are honestly so perfect together. Its so annoying that Finn and Poe keep interrupting Rose, also true to life. Maz in the next movie is gonna be into Reylo. Also “union dispute?” what the hell is Maz talking about? How and why does Poe know Maz? I love sleepy Rey, Ben isn’t even mad when he sees her. He looks her up and down so many times throughout this movie. He’s so in love before she is, its cute. Reys outfit is perfection. What Rey said actually wasn’t completely wrong. “s tension, a balance” REYLO! I love that they go into what the force is in this movie. Porgs on the ship is so cute, so is Rey in rain. Ben with his questions, I like that Ben is actually listening to her to see how she feels about him. HE LOOKED AT HER LIPS! WET GLOVES. Finn is so distracted. Pretty cool looks in the casino, those glasses are sweet. Finn/John is so hot. Love watching Rey with her staff. I need one of those belts. An ICON. Could listen to Rey’s theme all day. I feel so bad for the locals, Reys a little bit of a dick. Right when she decides to follow Luke I need that gif! This conversation is great but all I can focus on is the fact that Luke saids “huberous” twice always makes me anxious. I love space operas. Men failing, *a theme*. “I need someone to show me my place in all this” its Ben baby! DJ is cool, why does nobody talk about him. He’s such a interesting character. BB-8 is a badass. Fathiers are so beautiful. It was unnessicary for them to crash through the window and run inside, this whole case is too long. I can’t believe that they have already filmed most of the next movie. I like that Leia and Luke are talking. Now Reys asking the questions, she’s trying to understand him, she wants to understand him. I haven’t noticed till now how inconsistent their voices are over the force. Sleeping baby Ben is my favorite, with his calligraphy set? Precious. Did he show her his past? Or does she just believe him? I want to see the other cut scenes from Reys storyline. Its really cool to see Rey mirroring herself. This is a really cool scene. I’m so happy Ben has long hair in Episode 9. Bens already crying just from her telling him about how lonely she is!! They are eye fucking rn, I know what that look is. I REALLY WANT TO KNOW WHAT THEY ARE SEEING!!! Luke fucking ruins everything. Ben must be freaking out rn. Yeah get him Rey! I love this fight in the rain. Rey is right. The thing is like how do you know someones completely evil? Who makes that judgement call? This scene is cool, love the look of Yoda. Its a lot of pressure on Rey to continue the Jedi order if she’s the one who knows all the stuff in the books, Im glad she grabbed them. “The greatest teacher failure is”, “we are what they grow beyond” GREAT QUOTES. Rose is a badass. DJ is kinda right tho. “Let me learn you something big” so funny. No one can tell me Rey didn’t wash up and get pretty for meeting Ben. Ben made sure he was the first face she saw, he looks hot. Sweet hacking skills. The iron is really fun editing, they all look really good in the uniforms. The first shot of the elevator scene is so sexual, Ben holding her lightsaber in front of him with her hands in handcuffs. Oofff. Ryan made this scene as sexy as he could. Its so intimate. They want each other so bad. Rey whispers and leans in. Ben is so soft. His trying to hard to focus on his goal of killing Snoke and saving Rey. Rose is so salty “of course you do”. I feel like everyone puts up with Poe because he’s hot, because he’s a dick. Another failed plan. Yeah Leia get him! I love that she just shoots. Her daughter surrendering is really funny. Leia and Holdo are so cute I hope they made out one night really drunk when they were younger that was ,y first thought when they held hands. I absolutely love Holdo’s hair. Reys outfit in the throne room is so cool. She’s so strong, Ben is trying so hard to keep it together in the back. Theres no way Snoke bridged their minds. Ben got so scared when he said that. “No” she’s so strong. Ben looks so sad. Oscar Issacs ass is fine! John is really good in this scene and Rose’s scream is terrifying. Murder in Bens eyes. Its really scary that Snoke has so much control over Rey. Rey with Bens saber is all I ever needed. Bens gloved fingers are v sexy. Also THAT FLICK! When they look at each other they know, there in love. THIS FIGHT IS EVERYTHING! When DJ saids “maybe” I felt that. They are so powerful together. I love watching them fight together, can’t wait for the 9! Ben fighting off 3 guards is so hot. Rey dropping her saber and backhanding ir is really hot. Wow this moment is so intense its so quiet. Im so mad Ben didn’t stop the fleet though. The way he saids Rey, why are both of their voices so hot. I need Rey to tell him off in the next movie the way he’s telling off her parents. “Please” murders me. Rey is so smart, she knows he isn’t good yet. This is Rey’s moment of “I know what I have to do” Its crazy that Rose and Finn almost died by being beheaded! The silent part is so beautiful. Why was Phasma so far away? BB-8 in that thing is pretty weird though. Finn is so powerful. He’s super reckless in this film. Rose is so good I want to be her and slide hug her. “Rebel scum” is such a good line. Snokes lower body falling off the throne is super graphic. Ben is so mad Rey left. I can’t wait to see more of soft Ben, I don’t like him choking Hux even though its Hux. Rose and Finn are very lucky they made it below that door. I think everyone always thinks of Rose and Finn as cute and funny, but they are honestly serious and smart. So many people died in this movie. I don’t understand how they aren’t wearing goggles if its salt, they would be crying right now. This run takes a lot more time then it is distance wise. Its so pretty though, so I don’t care. Rey and Chewy saving the day is my favorite thing. “Wooh I like this!” so cute. I love watching Rey shoot. The crystal creatures are so pretty. Finn no! Yes Rose! “I saved you… dummy. Thats how were gonna win, not fighting what we hate, saving what we love.” Rose is right everyone! Listen up! Why does Ben say “no prisoners”, maybe he is bad? I love Reylo I don’t understand I believe in Ben. Is he lying to himself? Could he actually kill his mother? Luke and Leia are so sweet. Also their conversation about Ben makes everything more confusing, so he’s not gone? Aw Luke kissing Leia’s forehead is really sweet. Lukes wink is funny. This music is so good. Finn taking care of Rose is my favorite thing. The editing is so beautiful. Rey in snow >>>> Also “Lifting rocks” how does she know thats what normal Jedi start training with? Ben is such a baby in this scene, he’s so upset. I love that Rey and Finn normalize intimate friendship. Ben is the truest definition of a ‘Dark Prince’ if Ive ever seen one. I’m really glad Luke died here, its time, the sunset it really nice.
Bens eyes say it all here. Chewy and Leia so sweet. Reys smile is so AWW. Finn putting a blanket on Rose is the best. Rey knows she’s thinking about Ben. “We have everything we need” I bet Leia had a big part in 9 I’m so sad Carrie is gone :(
This last scene with the kids is really the perfect ending, HOPE.

Cycle - A Reylo Fic
Written for the "First Blood" weekly flash-fiction challenge @two-halves-of-reylo. Inspired by my grandmother's schoolmate who was, most unfortunately, never told about her period and stood up in class because she thought she was dying.
All thanks go to @liminal-zone for helping me not give up on this when I got frustrated. <3 Rating: Teen & up Tags/Warnings: Fluff & hurt/comfort. Mentions of blood and cramp pain. Links: AO3 || FF
She expected the far reaches of space to be more chaotic, more dangerous, more wild. But the Rebellion's latest outpost is stationed at the edge of a crystal-clear, purple-hued lake with flowering trees lining its banks, and it's just so. . .serene.
It's strange. For the first time, nature isn't trying to beat her down. There's no blistering sun or suffocating sand. There's no pelting rain or holes that wish to swallow her. There are only cool breezes that rustle the white blossoms adorning the trees, dragging the more fragile blooms down to dance along the surface of the lake, and the mysterious sound of tinkling chimes.
Hidden away in beauty, Rey should be able to forget. When she closes her eyes, she should see the sparkling water and the rainbow scales that mark the fish she's been feasting on. Out here, she shouldn't see him on his knees in the dark, haloed in the dust of the past. She shouldn't see defeat hanging like chains around his shoulders in a cowl he forged himself.
The moment's peace she's longed for since leaving Jakku is finally at hand, and it's making her absolutely miserable.
Because no matter how much tranquility she breathes in, his please rattles in her hollow lungs in a continuous, desperate echo that begs her to not forget.
Two months go by before they finally have a space which can rightfully claim the title of medbay - a place where the newly recruited staff can do more than ration out salves for burns and wince through unsteady sutures administered by untrained hands. It's not only a place to go to for emergencies, but somewhere every Resistance fighter - green and veteran alike - is ordered to visit by General Organa for a routine physical.
"Jedi-in-training are no exception," Leia affectionately chides after Rey skips her appointment slot for the fourth time.
She's patched herself up for so long that having anyone else examine her seems useless. Her time would be better spent training with Finn, or helping Rose with repairs, or figuring out a way to retool the broken lightsaber stowed away with the sacred texts on the Falcon. She knows her body better than anyone else; she'd know if something was wrong.
Rey likes the class one droid - an ancient thing that looks as if it could use more than an oil bath - that takes her vitals. Leia, finally, granted her permission to speak to a machine rather than a person since Rey's always been more comfortable around metal and gears than flesh and bone.
After she's passed the initial tests and provided bio-samples, the droid's monotone voice cycles through a list of questions that goes on and on and on. Only one strikes her as odd.
"When did you last bleed?"
Puzzled, Rey has to think a moment. She searches her memory for the last training session where things went wrong and she ended up with stitches. "About a month ago."
Her answer ticks another question off of the checklist; after ten more, she's released with a clean bill of health and the standard send-off of, "eat well and exercise."
Finally, an order she can agree with wholeheartedly.
The warm waters of the lake are the perfect temperature for bathing. While most of the crew still prefer the privacy of the freshers, Rey doesn't have as many inhibitions; the rare water-baths she'd had on Jakku happened around a communal trough where female scavengers and Niima residents did their business quickly and without comment. Rose joins her just because she relishes the chance to swim.
"It's easier to float," Rose admits as she splashes into the water. Lingering soreness in her shoulder from her Crait injuries impedes her desire to teach Rey more than simple strokes. "But who enjoys that stillness?"
Rey sinks up to her shoulders, hardly making a sound in comparison to her lively companion. The warmth feels particularly wonderful on her aching muscles today. She's not sure what she did differently during her sparring session with Finn yesterday afternoon, but everything from her waist to her hips feels like it was stepped on by a happabore.
She turns her face toward the sun. Even with her eyes shut, she can trace the circle of light smiling down on them. For a few minutes, she tries to push away all other thoughts and channel the positive energies around her into her aches and pains.
"Uh. . .Rey?" Rose starts. Her paddling slows to a stop several feet away. "Did something surprise you?"
Rey squints one eye open. What on earth could Rose be talking about?
Rose's eyes laugh at her in a knowing way, but Rey still doesn't see anything humorous. The tech nods at the water in front of Rey, and she looks down. Dark spots cloud the space around her hips. Rey jerks back, but the cloud follows her in the water, sneaking from between her legs. Shaking, her hand slips between her thighs, then quickly brings it out of the water. There isn't much left on her hand, but Rey can tell it's blood.
"Rey?" Rose's tone goes from conspiratorial to concerned.
"W-What's going on?" Rey stammers. Did she tear something during her training session and not notice? Rey retreats toward the shore and stands at a place where the water hits her mid-thigh. Bright red rivulets streak down from her center, and it takes all of her willpower not to shout for help. "Why am I bleeding?"
Rose churns water for several seconds. Her friend would do more than blink at her if it were serious, wouldn't she? She would jump out of the water in search of aid if it were a true life and death situation, right?
"Rose?"
Whether it's her wide eyes and short breaths that snap her into action or the terror in her voice that spurs her forward, Rose wades over to Rey and reaches up to rest her hands on the Jedi's shoulders. "Oh, sweetie. We need to have a talk."
Meditation doesn't help. The pills the medbay technician gave her, among other supplies to deal with the blood, only take the edge off. Rose had collected some additional treatments, but she'd been called away to solve a duct issue. Without an explanation of what everything is for, all Rey can do is lay on one of the Falcon's cots, breathing and mulling over the information that's been dumped on her at least half a decade too late.
Every month. This crippling pain is going to happen every month, though Rose had assured her the cramps will lessen over time, had attempted to joke about mother nature catching up for missed cycles.
Rey had responded with a grimace, not a grin.
Maybe if she hadn't been such a glutton, it wouldn't have come to this. Starvation and stress, the medbay technician had told her, could have delayed her cycle all these years. Rey knows she shouldn't wish for her old life - that going hungry and hauling salvaged parts through the desert were worse than this - yet the familiar struggles would be welcome right now.
It's one thing to slice a hand open on a jagged piece of metal - a pain that ranks somewhere around an eight as it happens and a two for the next month. It's another thing entirely to cycle through minutes-long stretches of a solid five all morning and afternoon. The interminable aching is the true torture.
"Rey?"
She startles at the soft intonation of her name. Her body reacts to the intruder, ready for a fight, but it ends up battling itself - piercing her with a hot, needling sensation that makes her groan and clutch at her stomach.
Why did it have to be him?
"What's wrong?" She sees him sweep his eyes from top to bottom, seeking a source for her distress.
"Give me the dignity of going away."
She doesn't have the energy to push him from her mind like she did on Crait, to close him out of a moment of weakness she'd rather keep hidden. She's not sure if it makes it better or worse when her request isn't met with animosity, but genuine worry.
"Are you hurt?" he presses, drawing nearer.
She laughs through gritted teeth. "Up until a few hours ago, I thought I was dying." Why would she admit to that? Maker, the nagging throbs in her lower abdomen and back have started to drive her loopy.
For the first time since their connection began, Rey lets herself notice him. He's wearing a similar outfit to the last time she saw him, but the clothes don't fit him as snuggly as they used to, like he's lost the muscle she's gained over the past few months. Rey excuses her perusal as needing to discern which one of them has appeared in her space - Kylo or Ben - though she knows the two are inseparably intertwined. It's only a question of dominance.
His eyes, soft and colored by the desire to ease whatever ails her, incline toward Ben.
Why did it have to be him? she thinks again.
"Rey - "
"I'm going to be fine," she emphasizes, sucking in a breath that belies her words. "Don't you have other things to worry about, Supreme Leader?"
He doesn't rise to the bait, doesn't switch demeanor to make it easier for her to goad him into leaving. Instead, he drags a hand through his hair, smoothing out the waves in tandem with his patience.
"You're deflecting," he remarks, shaking his head and looking at the ground before meeting her eyes again. "Let me help you."
Another cruel fist clenches inside of her - a seven edging close to an eight - making Rey turn her head into the mattress and whine. Once it passes, she asks, "Why would you want to help me?"
It's a valid question. He's still the leader of the First Order; she, a Jedi fighting for the Resistance. They aren't supposed to help each other, aren't supposed to care about one another's well-beings.
"I don't want you to suffer." The last word is almost inaudible.
The suffering she's known doesn't have a number scale. It dwells in her heart, lamenting for lost causes, for things split in half without hope for repair, for months spent without speaking.
It's a suffering which can only be ended by surrender, and she's not ready to give up.
Of course, he's only talking about the accessible pain, the ones which can be soothed.
"Really, don't trouble yourself," she tells him.
He ignores her and begins to explore the space, stepping over to a metallic trunk hosting Rose's collected treatments. He assesses the contents, lifting the cloth draped over a bowl resting on the heater. "Volcanic stones?"
Rey's only response is to groan as a level nine twist and pinch causes her to gasp. She curls in on herself, but it brings no relief.
Ben glances over his shoulder as he continues on to the next item: a jar with an opaque ointment. He lifts it to his nose, then draws it away, blinking his eyes from the sting. "Methanol rub?"
She's in too much distress to deny herself from asking, "Can you bring that over? Rose said it would help."
He turns and steps over to the bunk, but doesn't relinquish the jar. "Help with what?"
His insistence is maddening, but she doesn't care anymore if he knows what's wrong. "Cramps!" she half-shouts. "Is that what you needed to hear? I'm on my moon-cycle."
"Ah," he draws out as if the pieces of a puzzle have come together to form a clear picture.
She motions to the jar. "Now hand it over."
"No."
Rey huffs loudly, expanding her lungs with enough air to launch a rapid string of her finest curses at him when he adds, "Turn over. On your stomach."
She deflates instantly. "W-what?"
"I know what to do," he says, sheepish and with a faint red tinge on his cheeks. "I can make you feel better."
If the pain didn't seem to be getting steadily worse, she wouldn't humor him. As it is, she's desperate and willing to try just about anything, including trusting him.
Rey does as he asks and flattens herself out on the mattress while he brings the bowl of heated stones over. He places them on the floor next to her bedside, then kneels down. His bare hand rests on her lower back, pressing ever-so-gently on either side of her spine, an inch or two above her tailbone.
"Does it hurt here?" he questions, voice deep and rumbling in a way that makes her heart flutter. He moves his hand again. "Here?"
"More on the left," she reports, then amends, "It all hurts. Everything hurts."
"Then we'll fix everything," he returns, a smile warming his voice. "Can I roll up your shirt? It's better for the stone to rest on the skin."
She nods, lost in his shared promise: we'll fix everything. If only he truly meant everything - the pain in her body, the suffering in her heart, the hurt that's spread across the galaxy because of the war they continue to fight.
They could fix everything, together.
He pushes her shirt out of the way, bunching it halfway up her back. Taking one of the hot stones from the bowl, he passes it back and forth between his hands to absorb the sting of the fresh heat, then places it against her skin.
Rey gasps and jerks her hips away even as Ben retracts the stone. "Too hot?"
Yes. It feels like a scalding piece of metal that's been baking in the Jakku sun all afternoon. But even the momentary heat has started to seep through and loosen the muscle intent on strangling itself, so Rey shakes her head. "No. It just caught me off guard."
He hesitates a moment longer before placing the stone back in same spot. The pause between contact lends it the perfect temperature, just hot enough that her fingers clench into the sheet beneath her, but tolerable enough that she can stay still. He waits for another stone to cool slightly before laying it on her other side, right above her kidney. Prepared this time, Rey sighs at the sensation.
Ben begins to move the smooth stones, running them over her lower back, up her spine to the rolled hem of her shirt, then down to the waistline of her sleep shorts. As they transfer their heat to her sore muscles, he replaces them with fresh stones from the bowl.
"How did you know?" Rey asks. "How did you know what the stones were for?"
He's silent a long time, and Rey wonders if she actually voiced her question or if it was all in her head. The next time he switches out the stones, he reveals: "I've seen it done. I didn't understand it at the time, but I've seen the relief it can bring."
While she wants more information, she gets the sense that it's a topic he doesn't feel comfortable elaborating on. Instead of pressing him, she snuggles her head into her folded arms and sighs contentedly. "It feels better than you can even imagine."
Ben repeats the process again and again, until every stone is exhausted and Rey is half asleep. It's the first time she's felt relaxed enough to rest since the aching started the previous afternoon. When the heat of the last stone fades away, she whimpers - actually whimpers - over the loss.
It's not that the pain has suddenly returned which drags the sound from her throat, but the absence of his touch.
Just when she wonders if their connection lapsed without her notice, Rey feels something else on her skin: his lips. They brush against her lower back, slightly parted and letting the warmth of his breath gloss over the tender spots.
There's no drowsiness in her voice when she asks, "Is that something you remember seeing too?"
"No," he answers, leaning over to caress the other side of her back with his mouth. The words are mumurmed so close to her skin that she feels them move. "They say kisses take the pain away."
"Ben - "
He clears his throat and pulls back, fumbling with something on the floor. "It's foolishness, really."
"Then why did you. . .? Oh!"
The press of his fingers is a shock that takes her breath away. There's something coating them that feels cool at first, then burns with a comforting, radiating heat.
"Sorry," he utters. "It's the methanol rub."
Rey wants to say there's no need for an apology, not when his hand sliding over her back feels even better than the rocks, but all that comes out is a quiet moan. His touch spreads the warmth of the ointment as well as his own; both seep into her and alleviate the remaining tension knotted under her skin.
She's heard Rose use the word blissful when talking about Finn's massages, and for the first time, Rey thinks she understands what it means.
"Can you do this every month?" she asks, sleepy once more.
"If you'd like," he returns. "Though it would be easier to do in person. You could still - "
"Ben."
She cuts him off not only because she doesn't want to ruin the moment with offers she'd have no choice except to refuse, but because she hears footsteps coming up the loading ramp.
He senses it too, and abruptly severs their connection.
She's just sucked down enough air to control her panicked breathing when another Skywalker calls into the semi-darkness. "Rey?"
"General Organa?" Of all her possible visitors, the Resistance leader comes as a true surprise.
"No, no. Don't get up," Leia says quickly when Rey starts to push herself off of the mattress. "I only came to see how you're feeling. Rose has been worried."
"I'm much better now," Rey assures her as she settles back into place. "Just tired."
Whenever she's in Leia's presence, be it in the command center or elsewhere on the base, a sense of calm washes over Rey. It could have something to do with the woman's Force signature that Rey doesn't understand yet, or it could have something to do with the motherly care that naturally emanates from her, but Rey revels in it all the same. As Leia comes to sit beside her on the cot, a feeling of ease floats down to blanket her.
"Would you like me to use the stones?" Leia asks, reaching down to fish one from the bowl. "Oh, they're cold."
Rey swallows, suspecting that the Force-sensitive woman can detect a lie as easily as she reads ship schematics on a datapad. What would she do if she knew about the bond Rey has with her son?
Leia saves Rey the trouble of sweating out her options. She drops the stone back into its container and picks up the upcapped jar instead. "May I?"
Rey nods, still not trusting herself to speak without accidentally revealing her secrets.
With the pads of her fingers, the general applies a small amount of balm to the half-coated side of Rey's spine, rubbing soothing circles onto her back. She takes her time, humming a scale of notes over and over to fill the silence. Even without the Force, this woman wields her own power over those around her.
Enveloped in peace, Rey begins to drift off again.
"You know," Leia starts softly, voice wading through a pleasant memory, "Han used to do this for me."
Rey's eyes crack open. Her heart stutters against its resting rate. "He did?"
Leia hums a single note - an affirmation. "Han never liked an enemy he couldn't shoot, much less one he couldn't see," she explains with a smile. "There were days he'd spend hours easing my pains with hot stones and ointments."
Finished with the application, Leia puts the jar on the floor and gently rolls Rey's shirt down to cover her back. She stands, then pulls the blanket up to cover the younger woman's shoulders, moving her hair away from her face with a delicate swipe. It's the first time Rey can remember anyone ever tucking her in.
"Rest now," Leia says, straightening up.
As she's walking toward the door, Rey can't stop herself from mumbling one last question: "Why did he do it?"
The general's hand touches the arch leading toward the loading ramp, smiling as if Han Solo still stands beside her when she's on board this ship filled with his memories, their memories.
"It was just one of the ways he showed me he loved me."

Requested by @valeriariosarevalo
Prompt: Hi!!! I saw that your request are open. Could you do a one-shot/ imagine with Poe in the last Jedi where reader is Leia’s daughter and they’re married and the reader is pregnant and Poe is just really overprotective of her. Thanks?
The only thing I changed about this fic was that it’s not taking place in the Last Jedi. I can’t write fics for this movie yet because I don’t have a solid grasp on the plot, and not everyone has seen it. Come Wednesday, I will begin writing TLJ fics for you guys.
I GOT CARRIED AWAY WITH THIS SO BEWARE IT IS INSANELY LONG
I was SO tempted to turn this into a Christmas oneshot.. but why not just go for a crap ton of fluff. I hope you guys enjoy! This is mainly composed of snippets: Ex - First meeting, first date, proposal, marriage.. pregnancy. well, you’ll see.
REMEMBER: Feedback is critical to keep writers writing. Please.. tell me something. Anything goes! I promise I don’t bite!
Age 6
Night had long since fallen upon the Resistance base, and from where you slept in the quarters you shared with your family tightly nestled under a pile of blankets, you slept on. It had been a long day of training with your mother on the schematics of TIE fighters and other cruisers, and as soon as your father had ushered you to bed, you were out like a light.
Your older brother Ben crept along the labyrinth of hallways that lead to the Solo-Organa Quarters. Most of the crew members of the Resistance base were fast asleep in preparations for early shifts, while his mother and uncle were reuniting for the first time since Luke had taken him away for his training to be a Jedi. He was anxious to see his baby sister, but the moment he saw the familiar raven curls of young Poe Dameron, he knew that you’d be more eager to see the son of Kes Dameron then himself.
“Y/n!” He hissed, peering through the door of the familiar quarters to see you tightly nestled into a pile of blankets on the bottom bunk, surrounded by stuffed Wookies and even a makeshift Yoda that Luke had given to you upon your birth. “Force, y/n.. Wake up!”
You shrieked as the pile of blankets was ripped away from you, slowly opening your eyes and grinning widely at the familiar form of your older brother. “Ben!” You cried, extending your arms in greeting to the eldest Solo child as he took you into his embrace. “That was a mean way to wake me up..”
“Well, I thought you’d be interested in knowing that Uncle Luke and I just returned home from the Temple.” He whispered in your ear as he wrapped his arms tightly around your waist, sighing as you buried your face in the crook of his neck. The love you felt for him was a constant in his life - A reassurance that someone out there still cared for him. “And when we landed, I may or may not have seen Poe.”
You wrenched yourself out of his grasps and sprinted through the base without a second thought as to how you were most likely going to be punished for getting out of bed, but you didn’t care. As long as you got to see your best friend.
It was Ben’s fault for waking you up anyway.
That day also happened to be the same day where Poe had given you an official nickname. Angel. Whether or not it was because you were pretty or you were in fact Poe Damerons guardian angel, you weren’t sure.
He’d tell you at some point, right?
Age 16
“How am I supposed to just ask her?” Poe wailed dramatically, burying his face in his hands as Leia Organa quietly ate across from him. It was nearing the end of the lunch rounds in the mess-hall, and you had yet to return from your afternoon meditation in what you liked to call The Jedi Temple My Brother Didn’t Burn To The Ground. “This is way too hard!”
“Poe, honey.. You have got to take a chill pill.” Leia coaxed. She knew you as well as she had known Ben, both before and after he had turned, and somewhere deep in her heart Leia knew that you would say yes to his inquiry of a date without a second thought. “You two have been best friends for years. I’ve known for a long time that you love her-”
The statement made him blanch, and Leia couldn’t help but laugh as she stared at the wide eyed, flabbergasted teenage boy. “Love?!” He hissed, almost as if he didn’t want anyone else to hear him. “What-”
“Call it a mother’s intuition, dear one.”
Poe ran a shaking hand through his hair as you finally emerged through the mess-hall doors, a sheen of sweat covering your forehead and your lightsaber clipped to your tunic as you snatched the bag that your mother always set by the door for when you were late. “Thank my lucky stars, Poe!” You exclaimed, grinning widely when he flashed you that signature smile that never failed to make your heart flutter. With his olive skin and stunning eyes that always seemed to be adoring you from afar, you would’ve been lying if you said you hadn’t developed feelings for your best friend. “Do you wanna see what I was doing during all that time I hid from you?”
He quirked an eyebrow as you took a seat across from him, completely oblivious to the fact that Leia had somehow managed to leave before you had noticed her presence. “I don’t know.” He drawled, smirking as you ripped open the paper bag to reveal her infamous casserole and brownies she always made as a job well done for your success in training with the Force. By yourself. “I always had this suspicion you were off hanging with someone better looking then myself-”
“Sunshine,” You interjected, outstretching a hand before you could control yourself to play with the ends of his curls. Poe felt his breathing hitch in his chest as the laughter died between the two of you, your fingers grazing the side of his face as he found himself visibly frozen by your touch. “There’s no one better looking then you.”
Leave it to him to be completely tongue-tied in front of the Generals daughter.
“Will you go out with me, Angel?”
Needless to say that you ended the day safely tucked in Poe’s X-Wing, his arms loosely wrapped around your waist and face buried in your hair as you were lost amidst a sea of stars.
Age 20
Proposing. It can’t be that hard.. can it? Concoct some sentimental, romantic speech amidst a beautiful setting, kneel on one knee, present a ring. Boom. It was that easy.
So why was Poe in the midst of nearly giving himself a coronary over the thought of proposing to you? He was Poe Dameron, the best pilot in the Resistance, and the 4 years running boyfriend of Y/n Organa - The Generals second in command and one of three living Jedi in the entire galaxy.
Force.. He had a serious expectation to live up to. You weren’t just some girl who had crossed his path and only slept with him for sex.. You were y/n. His angel, and the woman he loved more then anything in the entire galaxy.
Lucky enough for him, the base they’d moved to upon her twentieth birthday had just received its first new fallen snow in the time they had been there. It just so happened that Winter was your favorite season, and you nearly went giddy with excitement every single time you came face to face with land blanketed by it.
So of course, he enlisted the help of his most trusted friends from the Black Squadron and set to work on winning your heart with the sappiest proposal ever.
By the time you had emerged from your new training room with Jessika Pava, you were soaked in sweat and grinning so widely she was sure that your face would remain that way. “If I didn’t know any better, I would have assumed that you just got the best lay of your-”
“Jessika.” You groaned out of annoyance, completely missing her victory dance as you trudged through the hangar to the halls that interconnected the living quarters. “I’m going to sleep!! Goodnight you-”
“NO!” You gasped as she lunged at you from behind and knocked your lightsaber completely from your grasps, simultaneously knocking the air from your lungs as you collided with the cold floors. “No-I mean, you can’t! You still owe me that drink from Christmas, remember?! When I said that Poe wouldn’t make out with you in front of the entire-”
“In front of the entire base, and he did?” You questioned, gasping as she pried herself away from you and dusted off her Resistance uniform. “My mother had a fit when I got home that night. Said it was unlady like to make out with your boyfriend in front of all his friends.”
“Didn’t she do that with your father a billion times? In front of your Uncle and the Republic’s highest ranking officers?” Your face slowly broke into a vicious grin as you remembered the story that your father Han had finally told you on your sixteenth birthday. You would never forget how hard the two of you had laughed on the couch that night, how it had finally pulled you both out of your grief over losing Ben and Luke.
“Only a billion times. Maybe that’s why my uncle went into hiding and inevitably became a hermit.” You jabbed your thumb into the keypad and gaped at the sight that greeted you in your apartment - or more particularly, the steaming shower and new outfit that hung on the door. “What is this?”
“You’ve got an hour to get ready, Organa! Meet me out here when you’re done!”
After an hour of painstaking work to make yourself look presentable, you slipped on your knee high winter boots despite your confusion and took one last glance in the mirror. If this was Poe’s inconspicuous way of getting you ready for a date, then you had to accompany it by wearing the only lipstick you’d ever seen make a mans knees go weak.
“Jess? Do I get my re-” You huffed a sigh of annoyance at the sight of an empty hallway before your eyes fell on a notecard that had fluttered to the floor upon you opening the door to your quarters. Just as you had suspected, your name was legibly scrawled in what could’ve only been Poes immaculate handwriting. “Oh Dameron.. what have you got planned for me today?”
Dearest Y/n...
What was that favorite poem you used to read to me about two people who fell in love? I think it went a little something like this...
“Two things I’ll forever be sure of. The sun will always fall for the moon, and I will always fall for you.”
Follow the rose petals to the front door of the base, angel. Then meet me outside for the time of your life.
Yours,
Poe
After a trail of rose petals and grinning pilots, you found yourself just outside the front door of the base, gazing upon the winter in all its majesty. Your y/e/c softened at the contrast between the evergreens that made up the forest around you against the snow, shivering beneath your sweater and scarf as you trekked through in hopes of finding your boyfriend.
“There she is!” Poe cried, sprinting towards you with BB8 on his heels; The droid seemed less then pleased that he was having to roll through snow just to appease to his makers wishes. “You look.. Wow. I sure do pick ‘em.” Grinning widely, you lightly kissed his lips before turning to gaze at the frozen lake behind you.
“This place is beautiful.” You whispered, hands resting on his neck as the two of you intently stared into one anothers eyes. “Why have I never been here before?”
Poe inhaled deeply and pried himself away from the familiarity of your body, his trembling hands reaching into his pocket where he’d tucked the velvet box away earlier that morning. “Because it’s never been important until now, y/n.” He replied, grinning as he knelt to one knee and opened it to you. It was a simple yet stunning band, with a sapphire neatly tucked in the center and two diamonds parallel to either side of the gem. “I’ve been thinking about how to do this for months but I was so kriffing afraid-”
You couldn’t help the tears falling down your face at the sight of him. Poe Dameron - Your best friend, your rock, the love of your life kneeling in the snow despite how cold it was; The tip of his nose reddened by the blistering wind, and all for a proposal. “Poe-”
‘’But then I said to myself, who cares? Y/n isn’t fond of big romantic acts, so I’ll settle for being me.” He lifted his eyes to gaze upon your face; Your y/e/c staring so deeply back into his own, hand plastered over your mouth to silence your sobs as you waited for him to continue. “We’ve been best friends since we were kids, and it wasn’t until we were 16 that I finally realized how head over heels I was in love with you. Stubborn, hard headed, grieving y/n Organa who came to me in her most trialing times, and I to her upon the loss of my parents. I knew from the minute you said yes to our first date and how fascinated you were by the stars that I was gonna marry you. My angel..” Poe swept his hand over his face to wipe away the wetness gathering on his cheekbones, cursing under his breath as he saw Leia and Jessika duck behind the nearest tree, camera poised in hand. “I adore you. I adore all of you.. I love you, I am loving you until the day I say farewell or death takes me first. Every inch, every broken piece of your being is craving to be loved... and there’s nothing else I’d rather do for the rest of my life then make you the happiest woman in the galaxy. Y/n Solo-Organa, will you marry me?”
“Yes.”
Age 22
Unfortunately, the impending war against the First Order kept you from having the wedding that both you and Poe wanted, but you didn’t care. With your mother as your witness, you and Poe Dameron were married within the week of Star Killer Base being destroyed, and life was good. It was peaceful.
It got even better when you found yourself staring at the II signs of your third pregnancy test. Rey had gone off to rescue Luke from the island, you had only just returned from battling your brother alongside the scavenger, and you were exhausted.
But the sight of those two lines, the confirmation that you were indeed carrying Poe Damerons baby, turned your exhaustion into this exhilarating feeling that coursed through your veins until you were sprinting through the base, crying out “Sorry!” every time you nearly crashed into another pilot or staff member.
As your feet skidded to a stop in the back of the hangar, you were greeted with the sight of your husband on his X-Wing performing maintenance work after his latest mission. “Poe!”
BB8 extended his only appendage in his wiring that worked as an arm, pricking his masters skin with an electrical shock to pull him from his trance, followed by a slew of irritable beeps. “Geez!” Poe cried out, lightly smacking the droid as he tightened his grip on the wing. “BB8, can you-” His eyes fell upon you directly beneath him, eagerly rocking on the balls of your feet as you waved the white stick upwards. “Are you-”
“This is my third one, and all three are positive!”
He jumped down from the ship without a second thought, joyous laughter breaking past his lips as you jumped into his arms and hooked your legs around his waist. Rumors had been circulating around the base that you were anticipating the results of a pregnancy test, thus putting you under strict orders from your mother that you were not to do anything until you had a confirmation.
“We-We’re gonna be parents!” Poe cried out, setting you back on the ground and peppering your face with kisses as other pilots awkwardly swerved around you. “Hey-Guess what?” You grinned widely as you clung to his arm, taking note of the pride in his expression as he flaunted his new found fatherhood to his subordinates. “I’m gonna be a dad!”
“The best freakin’ pilot dad the Resistance has ever seen!”
Poes head snapped over to you as his hand subconsciously shifted to your waist, forehead pressing against your own as you tangled your fingers in his hair. “You’re going to be the sexiest Jedi Mama in the galaxy, angel.” He whispered, grinning widely as your eyes lit up at the nickname.
“I’m gonna hold you to that.”
“You better.”
Age 23
And now here you were, less then two months away from the birth of your daughter, and Poe was being more irritating then usual. Despite his reluctance to allow you to collect data on the First Order and manipulate the Force Bond that had been created between you and your brother, you were insistent on doing something other then lounging around all day.
“No!” You snapped angrily, storming out of your quarters as fast as you possibly could and down the hall to the control room where you were sure your mother was waiting for your answer to her inquiry. “I can at least gather data and talk to Kylo, Poe! You don’t.. You don’t know my brother like I do. There is still good in him!”
“He’s a snake! A First Order snake with no good intentions other then saving his own skin!” Poe cast an exasperated glance at Leia as you moved past the other pilots and sat down in her chair, leaning your head backward for her to run her fingers through your hair. “Leia, can you give me a hand here? Your daughter won’t listen to me!”
“She’s got her fathers stubbornness, Dameron. I warned you about this years ago.” Leia winked at your husband before bending her head downward to softly brush her lips against your forehead, sending a wave of ease through your aching body. “Go easy on him y/n.. Your hormones are raging and all he wants to do is keep you safe.”
You exhaled deeply and tilted your head back up to meet the concerned gaze of the man you loved, who then took it upon himself to part your knees and kneel between them. He placed his calloused hands over the growing swell of your stomach before resting his forehead against your baby’s home. “You know all I want to do is keep my girls safe. That’s all I’ve ever wanted to do.” You tucked a stray curl behind his ear as he brought his gaze up to meet your own; Y/e/c shining with an unspoken adoration and deeply rooted love for the man you had known your entire life. “Just.. for my sanity, stay near your mother, okay? Be careful when talking to Kylo. He may be Astrids uncle, but we’re not letting him near her until we are sure-”
You pressed your fingers against his lips as the smile died on your face. “You’ve got a galaxy to save, Dameron.” You chided, softly kissing the corner of his mouth. “And just so you know, we’re not naming her Astrid. That’s almost like naming your child after a pet Bantha.”
Poe turned around to gaze at your form as pilots rushed past him to return to their stations, but he didn’t dare move a muscle as he drank you in. Y/n Organa Dameron - His best friend, the mother to his child, the only woman he loved. His angel. You were the most beautiful creation in the galaxy, and he made sure that you knew it every single time he looked at you like nothing else in that moment mattered.
To say you were stunned at his next statement would’ve made you seem like a total sap. “What about Padme?”
You ran your hands over your stomach as you were greeted with a memory - A single picture of a field on Naboo that your mother had shown you so long ago; Where two men and a woman had spent a final summer together before the darkness broke them apart. Anakin Skywalker, Padme Amidala, and Obi Wan Kenobi.
The damned, the brave, and the honorable. It would be a shame not to follow the legacy of the foundation that started your family.
“Padme it is.”

The Last Jedi was far from a perfect movie; the pacing was questionable, and a lot of it just didn't line up with TFA. That said, I actually really enjoyed it for what it is. My highlights under the cut:
REY!:
Literally everything about Rey. I love her Jedi training costume, I love her being dressed in gray shades, I love her boots. I love her training on her own when Luke refuses. I love the fact that she's still using her staff, and I love that she isn't afraid of the lightsaber--but that she doesn't hold it like most Jedi. She holds it like a girl who's learned to fight with a staff first. I love it.
Rey's Murder Face (™). I love that she is so consistently brutal, that she's all gritted teeth and furious stalk. The grace in her fight scenes is nothing like what we’ve come to expect from a lightsaber; it’s what you’d expect from a cornered tiger. I fucking adore that she has a totally different fighting style
Really, this whole breakdown could be (and is) a love letter to Rey. Rey is my Absolute Fave, and while I spent a lot of the first watch-through nervous for what they'd do with her, it all played out well in the end.
Rey coming at Kylo Ren with so much malice. Rey, even so, trying to see both sides of a miserable story. Rey pulling a whole-ass Luke Skywalker in her "there is still good in him, I sense it, I can help him back"--and Rey, faced with a power-hungry boy who does not want to be saved, who only wants to burn the world down, slamming the door in his face.
Because, see, this is what I wanted. No romance, none of that "she can save him and erase his terrible decisions" narrative, but a compassionate Rey--a Rey who, like Finn, did not grow up with friendship or love or family in her life, and still craves these things, and still gives these things freely. A Rey who could have grown up into a shuttered, broken human being, and chooses forgiveness first. Chooses the benefit of the doubt. Chooses faith in the best possible option...
...but is not so naive as to think she ought to stick around for a man who slaps down her offer for help. Rey sees his classic abuse tactics--telling her she is nobody, that nobody cares except for him--and walks away, and when he tries to get at her again, she closes that door tight. Rey is a compassionate soul...but it is not her job to save a man who does not want to be better. This is exactly what I would have hoped for her character.
Also, how much do I love that she sees Finn with Rose and does not narrow her eyes in anger, does not seem to view Rose as a threat. Her body language is soft. She is, despite all the gray space in her, soft.
Poe!:
His jacket. I want Poe's new jacket so bad.
Poe being a hotheaded idiot. Switching off the comms to keep doing what he perceives to be the right thing? SUCH a Leia move! How could she even be pissed?
(Because she's got so many of those moves under her belt, and she knows better these days, that's why. Leia don't take no shit. Not from Poe. Not from the Void of Space. Not from nobody.)
Poe learning how to be a hero. Learning that heroes are not all sassing the bad guys and blowing shit up. Learning that your X-Wing is super cool, dude, but maybe the true measure of a hero--and a leader--is knowing how to sit back and listen and make the hard choices with no glory whatsoever.
Luke!:
Speaking of taking no shit: Luke "Theater Is My Middle Name" Skywalker, looking at that lightsaber and just pitching it over his shoulder. Luke "Drama School Has Nothing On Me” Skywalker just going about his old-ass business of fishing and farming and leaping around this island like Rey isn't there.
Luke, who admittedly had two less-than-stellar teachers, and manages to hold-my-beer them both. Luke. How do you manage these things, you beautiful grumpy bastard.
Luke's sassy half-assed attempts at teaching. Rey's Fight-Club determination. They are so perfectly matched for each other. I'm sorry we never got him leaping onto her back and forcing her to climb vines, but I guess you can't have everything.
Rey's Murder-Sunshine butting up against Luke's Former Innocence-Turned-Grizzled Guilt is just so...satisfying to me somehow. I know Mark Hamill wasn't thrilled with the road these movies put Luke on, but frankly, it works for me.
Also soft: Luke interacting with his sister after so long, after so much guilt and shame and running away. Luke and Leia, a bond stronger than all the distance in the galaxy. I loved that little moment between them.
As much as I loved Luke's entire third-act charade. His outfit, his not even bothering with the illusion of his green lightsaber--and why would he? Ben Solo saw that saber as a murder weapon--his perfect hair. His little wink, his sassy one-liners, his whole demeanor. I don't love losing Luke, but I do think the way he went out was clean. It was Ben Kenobi. It was Yoda. It was Classic Jedi of the highest order.
(And Yoda was a great little touch. I wasn't...a hundred percent sure about the puppet they used, but it was worlds better than the prequels!Yoda. And I always enjoy him sassily smacking Luke upside the head. Never gets old.)
Leia!:
I don’t have a ton to say about Leia--not because I didn’t love her, but because seeing her onscreen, larger than life and so, so wonderful, hurt my heart. Knowing that the finale was going to belong to Leia, knowing that she was going to have the light shining on her in the end, carves out such a loss. Leia was the first powerful woman I got to see on-screen. Carrie was incredible. I was so glad to see her in this movie, and I am so terribly sad we will not be seeing her again.
But: Force-user Leia? So here for it. So fucking here for it. Anti-mutiny Leia? So here for it. Leia telling Poe to get his head out of his ass? Give me more.
And we’re all in agreement that she had a thing with Holdo, right? Right? ‘Cuz. Yes.
(I also really loved Holdo, and I wish we could have seen more of her. Laura Dern is always a delight.)
Finn!:
Finn still trying to run away--but for a totally selfless reason this time. Finn waking up and thinking of literally nothing but Rey for the longest time. Finn, who has only just figured out what friendship and family and love are, and is holding on for dear life.
In related news: how much do I love that every major character who runs across Finn—Poe, Rey, Rose--immediately wants to protect him with everything they have. This kid who was stolen from his family and brainwashed into Stormtrooper life is so loved by everyone he meets. My heart.
Finn and Phasma! Lowkey showdown of the movie. Him being so goddamn proud of being Rebel Scum after all the running of TFA is just so perfect.
Rose!:
Rose fits in so beautifully with the new kids. She's so clever, and has such a big heart. Her not even hesitating to hand over the last piece of her sister if it meant saving everyone. I mean. Really. Rose, you are a glorious delight.
Not to mention the tongue-tied good cheer followed immediately by tazing the hero you were just so excited to meet. Talk about mood.
Domhnall Gleeson:
Not Hux; I don't particularly care for Hux in all his one-dimensional glory, although I do love how not-having-it he was about Kylo Ren announcing himself the new leader of the First Order. That moment where he's 100% ready to shoot him? Glorious. But other than that, I just love the way Domhnall carries the character. He manages to be so different than I expect.
Honorable mention to that classic banter with Poe over the speaker system. Simple comedy is perfection sometimes.
Misc thoughts:
An unpopular opinion, I'm sure: I like that Snoke was taken out. I like that Kylo Ren rose to hold the mantle of Worst Dude in the Galaxy. I like that we got a character who, like Vader, was a boy to whom Bad Things Happened--and who decided to respond in the worst possible way.
To me, everything about this movie was rooted in choice, in the power of choosing your path. Rey chooses to look into the dark, but still lean light. Finn and Poe choose to risk everything for the chance to save the Resistance. Rose chooses to give up her last tie to her sister for a cause she believes in. And Kylo? Kylo chooses to forsake Ben Solo. Kylo chooses the path of murder. The path of absolute darkness. Kylo looks redemption full in the face and raises his middle finger at it. He chooses not to be Anakin Skywalker--who overthrew his master to save his son--but to be his own man. Which is not to say he is a good man. He actively chooses not to be a good man. It makes him a very human villain. There is no universe in which a unilaterally evil character is more interesting than one with layers.
I like that this movie recognizes that moral grayscale is where the world exists. The Jedi failed because they pretended they were above human darkness. Rey represents genuine balance. I appreciate this about her. I appreciate that they let her do exactly what Luke did in Empire: go into the cave. Face your darkness. But, unlike Luke, Rey hasn't learned to fear her darkness. She simply uses it like a tool, and sets it back on the shelf until it's needed again. She does not shy from a fight, but she does not recklessly murder, either. She is the middle ground.
Another possibly unpopular opinion: I like the idea that Rey comes from no special legacy. Now, it's very true that Kylo may have been lying to her about this, trying to coax her to his side; his playbook is full of abusive tactics, and this is a classic one. Personally, I like the idea that the Force was so desperate for finally achieving balance after all those ridiculous Skywalkers failed in the journey, and just went, "Fuck it. I'm making my own." Rey: Daughter of the Fed-Up Force.
That said, if he was telling the truth, and she did come from people who truly are not part of the bigger story, people who really do not care about her...doesn't that make Rey being a strong, self-sufficient, incredibly big-hearted human so much more impressive? Rey did not come from parents who loved her, like Ben Solo did. She did not grow up with a Jedi Master uncle believing in her. She did not come from a long line of power and legacy. Rey was self-taught in every way. Rey was alone. Rey made dolls and scrounged helmets and learned to be a whole person all by herself. She's an excellent example of how you do not need a bloodline or a legacy to be an interesting, powerful person.
Chewie with the Porgs. Okay, listen. Listen. I know they're everywhere right now. I knoweveryone burned out on Porgs. But look: Chewbacca in the aftermath of his lifelong best friend dying, adopting these little bird creatures like a widower adopting a therapy animal to offset his grief? I am not made of stone, people.

I’ve seen Star Wars The Last Jedi twice now. Here’s my thoughts. Sorry it’s long, but I just have to give the glowy character review that’s been nagging at me.
Some people don’t like seeing so much Kylo Ren, but I don’t mind it actually. He’s an accessory to Rey’s story. We get to see unequivocally why he is who he is and then see him choose the dark side even when he has the chance to leave it behind. In my opinion, the question of who he is and what he wants seems answered now. He is Kylo Ren. He doesn’t want to be Ben Solo anymore. Sure he killed Snoke, but after seeing how Snoke emotionally manipulates him, berating one moment and then praising him the next, Ren turning on Snoke made perfect sense. Snoke did not win Ren’s loyalty with any need, he beat Ben Solo into submission by playing on his fears and feelings of inadequacy. That kind of emotional abuse usually yields one of two outcomes: stockholm syndrome level loyalty or unadulterated hatred. Ren turning on Snoke was inevitable. Rey just presented someone new for Kylo Ren to latch onto and focus all his need for validation. The moment she didn’t give him that he turned on her and was ready to blast her out of the sky and kill everyone she’s ever cared about.
I believe Ben Solo is dead. Kylo Ren killed him, along with his past, just as he intended.
Onto the next polarizing character: Luke Skywalker. He might not have been exactly what people were expecting, but I actually found him to be pretty believable. He’s not a hopeful farmboy anymore. He is an old man now; an old man who fought so hard to save his father, who tried so hard to continue the ways of the Jedi, lost his nephew to the dark side which is almost worse than losing him to death, inadvertently ruined his sister and best friend’s marriage, and inadvertently brought about the death of his best friend at the hands of his nephew.
Luke. Skywalker. HATES. HIMSELF. He blames himself for every bad thing that has happened to his family since Ben Solo turned to the dark side. And so he ran away. Just like Obi Wan did, just like Yoda did, just like Han Solo did. He gave up the fight, just like all of these strong men in his life did. It’s no wonder after seeing their examples that he finally gave in himself. He went to the island to die. Rey helped save him.
As for Rey. I don’t believe she’s out of character. She’s a good person. This is a girl, who when told Finn lied to her about not being part of the resistance, didn’t even blink. She just asked him not to leave. Many a person would have locked onto the lie and been done with him after that. But not Rey. She loves deeply, forgives easily, and she gives people many chances. When she found out that maybe, just maybe, Keylo Ren could see that a mistake was made and that he could come home, she gave that hope a chance.
And she didn’t do it for herself. She did it for Ben Solo, whose pain she got to feel herself. She also knew how deeply Luke was hurting. She could heal that hurt by bringing him back. Even more she hoped he could help save the rebels, people who saved her life and were taking care of Finn. Anyone who tries to boil it down to a crush on Kylo Ren is missing so many layers to her choice to try and save him. It doesn’t matter if the fans saw him as irredeemable, Rey needed to try for the sake of so many people other than herself.
As for Poe, I loved his arc. We had no real clue as to who Poe Dameron was after The Force Awakens. He had what, maybe ten minutes of screen time and it was almost never just Poe. No one can say he was out of character. Just out of fanon character. I personally loved seeing Leia teaching Poe, and the only way to teach him is to show moments of failure. The perfect student who does nothing wrong is not a character who needs their story told. It makes for a boring tale. Poe got a ton of screen time trying, failing, and learning from the Princess herself, clearly being groomed to take her place one day. If Poe did everything he was told and simply executed Leia’s orders, we wouldn’t have needed to see so much of him. Not to mention there is a massive leap to make between being a soldier and being a leader. Leia was groomed from a young age to be a leader since she was a princess. Poe has clearly been a soldier from a young age, but now it’s time for him to get out of the headspace of soldier and into the headspace of leader. Two very very different jobs.
That leads me to address Holdo and her choice not to tell Poe her plan. She obviously confided in those she trusted because they were executing her orders. It’s not like she was fueling the transports herself or even walking around the ship giving those orders to the grunts. She was giving the orders to people on the bridge and those orders were then being passed down the chain. She just didn’t confide in Poe, because being a soldier means following orders and he did not follow Leia’s orders. He was in the hot seat, had just been demoted for refusing to listen to his commanding officer. He was being punished. He had been removed from the circle of those who needed to know. Following her lead was a chance to prove that he could follow orders. Pretty normal military protocol. He failed to just follow orders for a second time, and Leia not only sided against him for it, she stunned his butt. I found that to be a wonderful progression for Poe and in the end he learned the lesson he needed to learn.
On the other side, the story of Finn is one of my favorites. He proves time and time and time again what a good man he is. I don’t care what some say, his wasn’t a tale of learning to be unselfish. That guy doesn’t have a selfish bone in his body. His tale is one completely solidifying him as the hero, the man, the best dude in the movie. Was he going to run from the rebel ship? Yes, but not for himself. Not by a long shot. He was going to make himself look like a jerk so he could protect Rey, his best friend and the person he would literally face his deepest fear for. Only Rey could make him go back to the First Order in The Force Awakens. His story in The Last Jedi shows him going back and facing the First Order for something other than Rey, proving there is more there than a potential love interest storyline. The moment Rose mentioned the tracker, Finn was ready to go to Snoke’s ship to shut it down. He didn’t have to be asked.
He’s just an amazingly good man. He is the moral compass of the movies, and he does not have to spend time with any potential love interest to further his character development.
Plus he’s just so darn loveable that anyone that spends more than five minutes with him begins to adore him. He’s the hot girl of the movies.
As for Rose, I love her. She’s loyal, she’s emotional, she’s capable, she’s strong, but she’s not exactly a fighter. Rose is everything women should want to see in a strong female character that is not stereotypically strong. I didn’t find her writing cheesy or corny and I don’t care if her character encroaches on any ships. She is a wonderful addition to the cast and I’m excited to see what will happen with her next.
All in all, The Last Jedi was amazing in my opinion. I enjoyed The Force Awakens, but The Last Jedi has already sucked me into seeing it twice in theaters and I’m pretty sure I need to see it at least one more time. I think it really showcases who the main characters are (Poe, Rey, and Finn), and gave each of them a chance for some storyline away from each other and the shipping wars going on in the fandom. Each one of them grew a little bit in the short time they were apart, and now they are ready to be the faces of the new rebellion. People in the universe aren’t going to be looking to the Skywalkers anymore, they’re going to be looking to the military commander, the jedi, and the heart of the rebellion to save them.
Bonus moments that made me squee:
-Poe and BB-8′s multiple romcom reunions where they run into each other’s arms scenes
-Poe being immediately bambuzzled at the thought of Finn being naked
-Adorable Finn and Rey experiencing new places and things (Finn at the casino and Rey with the rain)
-”If you see Finn tell him–yeah tell him that.”
-BB-8 being the true badass of the movie, his father R2D2 would be so proud
-Luke being the true, dramatic hoe we love and not only force projecting himself halfway across the galaxy, but force projecting himself in a new outfit, with a clean haircut, and then brushing fake dirt off his fake shoulder
-Leia proving once and for all that not only is she force sensitive, but she is possibly one of the most badass force users to ever live
-Women EVERYWHERE! Women in tie fighters, women working the computer consoles, women saving the day and destroying dreadnoughts, women with blasters ready to make their final stand. Just women women women in Star Wars, kicking butts and taking names. It was absolutely beautiful.
-Star Wars cementing the fact that even if a bad guy and his fascist bs seems like a joke, he can still be insanely dangerous when he gets people to follow him
-Rey and Kylo Ren wailing on Snoke’s dudes. That lightsaber fight was absolutely amazing and beautiful and so well choreographed.
-FINN AND REY’S HUG! BEST MOMENT OF THE MOVIE!
