You ever get the urge to just-
Faceplate can open like in the actual sets. Also made the Krana space compatible with GWP plates and generally 2x2 plates. Haven't successfully added the necks yet.

Wait i just realised why there isn't a canon Bohrok of air. Cause like. It wouldn't be as effective for cleaning it all etc as acid is. Can you tell I'm tired.

This is a nice little throwback. I gave up Bionicle collecting a decade ago, haven't gotten any G1 sets since 2014, but I couldn't resist these Japanese bagged Bohrok Va I found unopened for cheap. I never owned any Va before, and this is also the first time I got a Lehvak claw piece.
These little guys briefly opened up a tiny window reaching back to 2002 (a very special year to me personally, both for good and bad reasons) and to the old feeling of getting pristine new Bionicle pieces for the first time.

Okay so Bionicle plot bunny that I’m surprised no one’s done anything with: What if, instead of burning up on atmospheric re-entry... Lehvak-Kal survived his descent to Spherus Magna and just like
has to deal with the fact that not only is it the last of the Bohrok-Kal, and quite possibly the last Bohrok full stop
but also the fact that what it was built to protect now lies in ruin
What does a sentient Roomba do when the surface it was built to clean is irreparably broken? Is a Bohrok capable of finding its own purpose in this strange new world? To what measure can the Bohrok-Kal achieve true sapience?
I dunno, I like the Bohrok-Kal and I think it’d make for a fun bit of worldbuilding

Which Krana-Kal do you think each of the Bohrok-Kal used?
We see several of their Krana physically during various events in the story, for example, we know that Tahnok-Kal was using a Za-Kal at the time Onua and Pohatu defeated it, and Kohrak-Kal and Nuhvok-Kal had the Su-Kal and Xa-Kal respectively during their attempt to free the Bahrag.
While they likely started switching Krana based on the situation at hand once they had the support of the Bohrok-Va (honestly, I’d love to see the Bohrok-Kal being accompanied by a whole squad of Va carrying their alternate Krana-Kal so they can switch out as necessary), I do think it’s possible to determine which carried what.
Tahnok-Kal, being the leader, likely used a Za-Kal most of the time. Za-Kal’s power was Telepathy, the same as its non-Kal counterpart, though it gains the added ability to sense strong emotion.
Among normal Bohrok, Krana Za was used by squad leaders (which is probably why it was the one used to control high-value targets like Matau and Lewa), while Xa commanded entire swarms, but Xa-Kal is now the key to awakening the Bahrag, so Za being promoted to the “Overseer” rank makes sense, and it’s probably thus the leader’s Krana of choice.
Maybe Tahnok-Kal lost access to this Krana after Onua and Pohatu took it, I’m not really sure if there were multiple copies of each Krana-Kal made.
Kohrak-Kal having Su-Kal makes sense too. Su-Kal is another Krana-Kal that shares its power with the default Krana version, adding endurance and temperature-resistance to the extant super-strength. Kohrak-Kal had to operate in Ko-Wahi (though either Greg messed up the powers or the Kal were together when they took Kopaka’s symbol, because Matoro is defeated by Gravity, not Sonics), and, like its counterpart among the Toa Nuva, it was also the lone wolf of the Kal.
Unlike Kopaka, of course, this was less by choice, and more because its teammates legitimately couldn’t stand it. Kohrak-Kal was so powerful that its sonic abilities were actually dangerous for the other Kal to be around.
With that in mind, it makes sense that Kohrak-Kal would usually have Su-Kal as its choice, it would need superior physical might if it was to operate alone.
Nuhvok-Kal is the bearer of Xa-Kal. Xa-Kal is the most important of the bunch, being vitally necessary for their mission, though it wouldn’t surprise me if multiple Bohrok-Kal used Xa-Kal during their attempt to free the Bahrag, just in case one or more of them were disabled.
Still, Nuhvok-Kal is one of the more powerful Bohrok-Kal, and using it as the vessel for the key would be a smart choice.
So that’s half of them, but can we work out the others? In my opinion, yes, at least partially.
Pahrak-Kal is the easiest one. Pahrak-Kal was the member of the team that found the Bahrag, and hey, look, they had a Krana-Kal for exactly that. Ca-Kal is the “Seeker” Krana-Kal, trading out its counterparts shielding power in favour of a new one that links it mentally to the Bahrag and allows it to track them. And it doesn’t give the user headaches to tell them they’re getting closer, sucks to be you, Hahli.
Greg is inconsistent on how great the range of the Krana’s power is, but given that Pahrak-Kal specifically was the one to do the exact job that the Ca-Kal was made for, I’d say that it did so by using Ca-Kal.
From here, it’s more vague, but there’s some conjecture that could suggest an answer for Gahlok-Kal.
During the theft of the symbols, it was Gahlok-Kal and Nuhvok-Kal who took Lewa’s symbol. They both escaped very quickly, and Gahlok-Kal in particular went all the way from the southern reaches of Le-Wahi to Po-Koro in the north, to take Pohatu’s symbol and cover him in goats.
With that in mind, I’d suggest that Gahlok-Kal used the Vu-Kal, which grants the user super-speed, both on the ground and through the air, to get from one location to the other at such a pace.
That leaves only Lehvak-Kal, and while normally the answer would just be “Whichever one’s left,” unfortunately we have eight Krana shapes, and there are actually three remaining unclaimed Krana-Kal.
So what does Lehvak-Kal do in the story? It’s described as relying on ambush tactics, disappearing into the jungle to evade its opponents, and is the one that took Onua’s symbol. And frustratingly, all three of the remaining options fit at least part of that role. Bo-Kal gave it night vision and x-ray vision, Yo-Kal allowed it to actually tunnel through the ground at an accelerated rate, and Ja-Kal gave it radar and enhanced senses.
Fortunately, there’s an answer for this, because Lehvak-Kal was one of the three that fused into their Kaita form. Kaita for all three forms of Bohrok are named for the Krana that controls them, and in this case, the Kaita is named “Ja”, and as Lehvak-Kal is the only one without a confirmed or speculated Krana-Kal, and as it also forms the head of the Kaita, I think it’s safe to say that Lehvak-Kal had the Ja-Kal. The same is true of the opposite Kaita, having Tahnok-Kal form the head, and being named “Za.”
I’ve typed -Kal so often that it’s lost all meaning.

So like, it's no real secret that the Bohrok were inspired by the Xenomorphs from Aliens right? The way their nest looks, the Exo-Toa/Power Loader, the Krana pull double duty as both facehuggers and as the human skull you can see in the Xenomorphs head under the right angles and lighting, the way the Bohrok head snaps forward to knock your mask of is similar to the Xeno's little mouth darting out to bite your face off, and ofc the Lehvak using acid (like the Xenomorph's blood) rather than air as it's element, even though the other breeds matched theirs up with the main six elements. The references are all very obvious in hindsight, though probably went over most of our little kid brains.
With all that in mind however...
...was this literally just another fucking Aliens reference?

I really hate to be “that guy”, but the presented methodologies here are all-around flawed.
The Jerusalem Post article says the Asteroid is the size of 33 armadillos, not the mass of. And unfortunately, the article does not even provide a tangible estimate of mass, only stating ambiguously that “In captivity, [nine-banded] armadillos have weighed as much as 80 kilograms, but undoubtedly a large asteroid is going to be much heavier.” (https://www.jpost.com/science/article-735473)
While indeed true that such an asteroid is unlikely to be composed of armadillo meat, but rather some manner of much more massive asteroid meat, it is unclear whether they are suggesting a single nine-banded armadillo or a collective 33 armadillos can weigh “as much as 80 kilograms”, but in either case they’d be wrong. According to Wikipedia, the average range for a nine-banded armadillo’s weight is 2.5–6.5 kg, and the largest specimens weighing in at 10kg (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nine-banded_armadillo#Description), far undershooting the suggested 80 kg weight. However, if we do the math, then the minimum collective weight of 33 nine-banded armadillos is 82.5 kg, which overshoots their apparent maximum calculation of “as much as 80 kg” by an entire armadillo’s worth.
This is especially egregious when realizing that they are using the (correct) maximum length of a nine-banded armadillo when measuring asteroid 2023 FL2′s diameter: “[The nine-banded armadillo] can grow to as much as 107 centimeters in length provided it isn't rolled up into a ball.“
It is also worth noting that, although stating they are using the unrolled length of the nine-banded armadillo, it is not one of the only 2 species of armadillo that can roll into a ball (both of which are three-banded armadillos). This disappointingly makes the leap from armadillos-as-unit-of-measure to “very good” condition Bohrok Lehvak (green)-as-unit-of-measure slightly less apt.
However, we could perhaps mitigate this disappointment by instead using Lehvak-Kal, who canonically spent the time between its defeat and the reformation of Spherus Magna in space orbiting Aqua Magna (https://biosector01.com/wiki/Lehvak-Kal#Biography).
For convenience, I will be referencing the largest of Lehvak-Kal’s dimensions as listed on Brickset, 15.7 cm (https://brickset.com/sets/8576-1/Lehvak-Kal), and the actual diameter of asteroid 2023 FL2, 35 meters.
35 m / 0.157 m = 222.93, or approximately 223 Lehvak-Kal orbiting Aqua Magna in size.
33 armadillos weigh…
… about 396 lbs (12 x 33 = 396). Which means…
that if a “very good” condition Bohrok Lehvak (green) is 6.2 oz then we can say Asteroid the size of 1,022 “very good” condition Bohrok Lehvaks (green) to Pass Earth Sunday

The Consequences of Bibs
Bohrok are cool. Their combiners are not. They don't even have names, look it up.
I was messing around with the Bohrok Kaita builds a bit and noticed something funny with the instructions.
The combination of Lehvak, Gahlok, and Kohrak, the Ice Bohrok, which will be referred to as Kaita A, clearly just uses most of a Lehvak for its head. Its such a reuse that they literally just tell you to go back to earlier in the book and reread those instruction pages, rather than reprint them, as this part of the instructions was in Lehvak's book.
This has the result of the Kaita A instructions being 80% of a bohrok shorter than the other one, so they have more pages left than the other combiner!
They make use of this with 4 pages with lots of nice story renders, 4 per page.
Now the second combiner, composed of Pahrak, Tahnok, and Nuhvok, referred to here as Kaita 1, has a bit of a difference. Much of the build of Kaitas A and 1 is identical, the main differences being in the arms and the upper torso. Kaita 1 also embeds Tahnok's face shield inside of Nuhvok's body.
This means that they can't just reuse parts of the main Bohrok instructions like Kaita A, which leads to the instructions overall being longer. To keep things simple they most likely wanted the instructions for all 6 sets to be the same length, so this led to a reduction in the number of pages devoted to the story renders, having only two.
They're much smaller also, they manage to squeeze 9 per page compared to Kaita A's 4.
But you may notice something odd there. 4x4 is 16, but 9x2 is 18!
That's right, despite having smaller images overall, and less pages, the Kaita 1 instructions actually contain MORE images. The hive cell about to burst and Onua and Whenua meeting at the Amaja Nui are exclusive to these two books.
Yes I said two. For poor Nuhvok, after the first two books cover the legs and head, has to show everything else, and thus only gets a single page of renders.
It shares the same format as the others of Kaita 1, but is super abbreviated.
So on this day let us all take a moment to appreciate little Nuhvok, the Bohrok that had to shoulder the bulk of its Kaita instructions due to the addition of a silly little bib, and as a consequence contained the least story renders of any of them.

In response to "grey areas of the Toa Code" in relation to the Bohrok-kal specifically, i thought their Krana survived? I could be remembering it wrong, but i thought there was a sentence or two stating that while the robotic bodies were destroyed, their Krana all jumped ship and scuttled off
Well, except for Lehvak-Kal who's just
It's kind of unclear (at least to me) whether the krana-kal were the mind of the Kal or whether the machine body itself was sapient. The story seems a little inconsistent on that...
