The Oathbound/LB4 news has thrust me into a full-on Nick bender. I’m super freaking excited for blondie to turn it tf out in OB. I’m sure he has some secrets to reveal, vengeance to rain down, & a King to romance. I am ready.

For some reason this has manifested itself as writing lots of smut from his pov 🤪😆 so here you go. First chapter of 2? 3? Idk as of yet.

"Bright, Golden Eyes" - A short Natasia Kane fanfic

This is my first fanfic ever, and I decided to be really really brave and share it with you all. I was just gripped suddenly by how flippin' sad Natasia's story is, and while in that headspace decided to write this down. My repetition of the phrase "bright golden eyes" is meant to evoke that feeling of a memory that you desperately want to hold onto, but it fades over time leaving only a strong imprint. Please be nice, I'm a novice writer and shy ☺️.

Bright golden eyes that mirrored my own gazed up at me. Clever eyes. Perceptive eyes. Eyes that bore into my soul and seemed to know me more than I knew myself.

I knew I was pregnant well before the obvious signs showed up. I felt it in the aether, almost like magic was calling him when he was barely a bunch of cells.

I tried to keep him away from this world, even though he was made for it. Tried to capture those short years of innocence in a bottle and keep them safe.

But he was a precocious and curious baby. Even crawling, he found his way straight to my pile of grimoires, chubby fingers exploring the worn leather, bright golden eyes filled with wonder.

He found me at my altar during meditations. Climbed into my lap as I chanted, gazed up at me with bright golden eyes, willing me to take him on my astral journeys.

He wasn't a smiley child. Almost like he understood his mission. Understood the world of rules and rank, deprivation and darkness that he was made for.

He spoke early, wore me out with questions upon questions. So I gave him books - not "first words" books, no - real books, with big words and adult stories. I taught him everything I knew, answered all his questions.

His busy mind craved more, so I gave him music. I'll never forget the joy in those bright golden eyes when I gave him his violin. I ran my fingers through his blackest black curls as he gazed down at the instrument in its case. He looked up at me with a happy little grin, the most precious gift.

Seven years elapsed just like that. He sat in the grass on a sunny June afternoon, bright golden eyes focused on the whirlpools of aether that danced in his palms. Easy as pie, far better than some twice his age.

I went into the house, closed myself in a cupboard and broke into a billion pieces.

"Mom, why were you crying?" he asked, concern in his bright golden eyes. I wept harder - his Merlin ears had heard me from outside, and Merlin speed had brought him to me in seconds.

I was bitter. They had won.

I'd given them what they wanted - the "progeny of my carefully crafted line" - and now they would discard me. I wondered, what lie will they tell about me this time?

And so he was taken from me, not a day late.

...

Now he's been brought back.

But gone are the bright golden eyes. The curious, playful eyes.

Oh no no. These eyes are the colour of blood upon blood, hungry for misery and pain and grief. Mercurial, sly, and ever perceptive.

My most cherished dream, now my worst nightmare come to life.

Once again, I'm broken in a billion pieces. How will I piece myself together enough to bring back my boy with the bright golden eyes?

King Hastur is perfectly normal and has Totally Good intentions.

Bone Reaver Jade helps the Crone’s followers bring Kit to the Immemorial City. Quite easily one of the angstiest fics I have ever read. But for all 100k of angst there’s another 100k of fluff and that’s only vaguely an exaggeration. The magic is absolutely horrifying but it feels totally realistic to what we’ve seen in canon. Jade and Kit both need a hug.

Series still currently in the first book. Kit successfully runs away, and every attempt to rescue Airk fails. Twenty years later, the world is under the rule of the Wyrm. Kit and Jade work in smuggling, unaware what happened to the other. Until, of course, they end up working together on a job. The world is so so horrifying but so well done. Also, Kit is allies with Sarris the Troll.

I know that last user was trying to clown on us zutara shippers or whatever, but, like, as a fan of legendborn & blookmarked, I have to reluctantly agree and say check it out. Tracy Deonn, the author of the legendborn cycle, is openly an out and proud zutara shipper (you can google her name + zutara and find some of her tweets even)! She - alongside The Poppy War author R.F. Kuang - have actually cited zutara as inspo for certain couple/interpersonal dynamics in their books (rinezah and selbree unite<333)! Ms. Deonn even compared breenick - the main couple - to percabeth, if that piques your interest~ ;)

That said, The Poppy War is reaaaally dark and heavy subject wise, so don't go in just for the ship dynamic. Legendborn is a modern Arthurian story and deals a lot with racism, but I'd argue it's less triggering subject wise, so fine to dive into just for the ship dynamics. Plus, the 3rd book, Oathbound, is out next year! Perfect time to dive in :)

So yeah. A decent book rec for zutara shippers from an anti zutara. A rare W. Imagine that.

I come off hiatus to push an agenda and that is: Read Legend born by Tracy Deon. Its the YA book so many people need and so many people deserve. A beautiful take of the tale of Arthur in a modern day setting touching on racism as well as the strength it takes to be the first and the weight that comes with having a voice.

Also its like the only media that does a love triangle well IMO.

2. I personally headcannon the whole “Early College” thing in Legendborn as just normal college. Sexy situations aside I think aging up the characters it solves plot contrivances and makes things simpler where the more complicated option isn’t terribly interesting. As such, the relationship discussed between Briana and Selwyn is between two adults. Moreover, while Sel’s demonia makes an ~appearance~ and influence, this playlist is meant to be conceptualized without the looming threat of him descending into demonia and subsequent blurring of the lines between “safe, sane, and consensual”, as is in Demonia’s Descent. So like…in my headcannon/playlist AU, the power of love makes Sel better at edging his demon? Yeah. Yeah? Sure.

…look, I’m not here to make this shit actually make sense with the plot. That’s for the lovely theorists, fix-it/alt POV fic writers and resource gathering fandom members’ forte. So, Of Our Own Volition had Brelwyn making love for the first time. The earliest one could theorize it happening (with a non heteronormative definition of sex) could be Into Orbit…tho personally? It’s when The Line was clearly crossed in Virgo’s Scorpio’s Groove. Immediately followed by Sel having a damn religious ascension with Submerge: Until We Become the Sun. We get some afterglow and end on a flirty, playful, even experimental note with We Might Even Be Falling In Love (feat. Bryson Tiller for my Spotify peeps). It’s all very saccharine and tender and sweet and I love it…

This is not that playlist. They are grown and fucking fucking now. We are getting explicit. We are getting kinky. I allowed myself like one and a halfish toxic song in this playlist, since there’s more than enough excellent but SUPER TOXIC relationship songs for the TLC trio, regardless if you’re OT3 endgame or Brelwyn endgame. …A Toxic OT3 playlist will come in due time, with my softboi hours (Brickel? Nickee? Brick?) Brick Playlist along side it as a palette cleanser.

But now? I want input for what a grown and sexy playlist would be for these two!I like wording and terminology from the book—“Everything in Between” isn’t bad but feels too wordy? I think I wanna have transition songs like the instrumental tracks in O3V and DD. But my searches for “sexy violin” are not giving what I need it to.

An idea I have is to instead have shifts be denoted by a lil “Demonia Dip” as I call it. Not full on Act V of DD bad but like, compared to the rest of the playlist you’d be like “oh yeah it’s that bastard again” we’re talking For Your Entertainment by Adam Lambert and a reappearance of Tonight You are Mine by the Technicolors.

This is an R&B slowjams playlist for our protagonist and King Bree first and foremost… but Sel IS a white boy with THAT kinda playlist for his deepest, darkest desires…it’s only fair the cambion brain gets a few tracks, if only to signal “oh we are NASTY nasty now huh—“ Plus I let the white boy freak flag fly by starting off O3V with Sweater Weather. He can have a dip or two. As a treat.

Writing in Progress

Apparently my draft either didn't save or I did it wrong.... but.

Started my first attempt at writing fanfic. Or well, second, but the first one was handwritten and I'm lazy and not typing it up.

The beginning of it is underneath the cut. ~400 words, TW for child abuse. I have noooo idea how long this piece'll actually be.

The brainrot is fucking real - Cas

Nick is in trouble, again.

Lord Davis towers over him, fire in his eyes. "What is this I've heard of you breaking into Isaac's library?" He brandishes a thick, dusty tome. "This was found among your things."

I don't need to read the words on the spine to know that the book is about Merlins. About mesmers.

Nick's reckless mother no longer remembers him. She had kidnapped him; had endangered him, and for her trouble, every memory of her only son had been wiped from her mind.

The "Scion of Arthur" doesn't agree with the punishment his mother received for her crimes. Honestly, I feel that she got off easy. She tried to kidnap him. Steal him away from everything, stop his training, treat him like a normal boy.

Nothing about the Legendborn is normal. The training is necessary. The Shadowborn won't go easy on him, and he needs to be prepared for the possibility of Camlann. As the Scion of Arthur, that is his duty.

It is mine to protect him.

When Lord Davis raises his hand and brings it down upon Nick's cheek, I turn my head. Stare at the wall and keep my spine utterly straight, my feet planted where I stand. Stepping in would only make Nick's punishment worse -- Lord Davis would claim I was interfering in the much needed correction, and then turn his ire on me, instead.

At least with his own child, he stops at one, sound hit.

My stomach twists. My Oath itches along my skin, the anger and pain a momentary blight on my vision until Nick gets his emotions under control.

What kind of Merlin won't protect their charge from his own father?

The guilt rises into my throat, but I tamp down on it. Stomp it out as I look over at Nick once more. Take in the way his fists are curled at his sides, the redness forming on his pale cheek --

The tears beading on his lashes, threatening to spill over.

It's not the first time I've thought that. I'm sure it won't be the last as Nick slides through puberty with the same grace he does everything else. The girls at school have noticed; he may only be thirteen, but he is nearly as tall as his father, now. Taller than I am.

He doesn't even have the decency to be done growing. I swear I can hear his bones still lengthening.

I need motivation to write, so I’m sharing all my fic ideas with y’all-let me know which ones sound good so I have a reason to open Wattpad again and actually get started. I want to write, my brain just refuses to give the happy chemicals until I have an excuse to weave those words.

Fairly long timeskip, 4 years at minimum, and just kind of exploring how everything’s changed. (Also Willark would be 100% canon and I’d probably kill off Tor for my own enjoyment.) May or may not end with a ruby ring and our favorite Merlin on one knee.

Let’s take that fluffy energy and run with it-a mixed bag of scenes that are post-kiss and pre-Mageguard, in that perfect universe where there is occasionally time to relax. Inspiration drawn from several ‘what would they do if they had the time’ posts.

Time to ruin everyone’s lives with a Sel death and Bree pleading with her ancestors to let him in, please, do whatever magic you have to, I just need to see him again, I would do anything. Unsure if Order spirits/non-blood relatives could access Mediums in the same way, but I feel like if anyone can it would be Selwyn.

Alternative BM ending of Sel not fully succumbing-I don’t know exactly what would have to change but basically he finds out about Bree’s deal (which would still happen-in this case it’s probably something close to demanding protection/stopping the hunt for her friends, idk-) and… let’s just say Nick and William don’t do a very good job of explaining anything to a Very Emotionally Unstable cambion and it goes badly for everyone involved. Partially because there’s a lot of bloodlust once Sel learns it was Erebus that took her.

Traumafluff at an Order event-probably a Selection Gala a year or so after BM/Camlann, everyone having to pretend they haven’t seen their friends suffer at the hands of the Order, it’s very much ‘we murdered SO many demons look at us isn’t this so awesome’ so I’m sure all those traumatized teens won’t be at all upset… fortunately, it doesn’t last forever, and the physical manifestation of you’re safe here doesn’t leave her side.

Alice being Alice. Just oh my god, Matty, are you even trying to be subtle you keep running off with the damn incubus-do what you want but you don’t get to be surprised when I ask if you two are a thing now-

Chapter 3 of Raised on Little Light!

"Nick, short for Nicholas.” I startle, and see her again. Bree, the girl who can see aether and defeat mesmers. I know when she looks at me with determination flashing in her eyes that she managed to keep her memories of last night. She defeated Sel’s mesmer. For the first time in years hope rises in my chest when I think of my mother. Still, the Genetics 201 lecture hall is too public of a place to openly talk about the order. I attempt to focus on the professor instead of the wonder that is Bree Matthews. 

“I made myself remember” she hisses, her warm breath next to my ear feels almost too close. 

“Remember what?” I ask, barely keeping the smile off my lips. 

We work on the pretest together. Bree’s good at this stuff. Despite not even being in the class, she understands the content better than me. Despite everything that happened yesterday, Bree makes me feel normal. The weight of being Author’s scion, everything with my mother, Sel, the order, it just disappears. I feel myself getting pulled into this feeling more and more, and it’s intoxicating. I wonder if this is what Sel feels when he’s aether-drunk. 

Bree shoves a piece of notebook paper into my hands. Merlin, Legendborn, mesmer and more are scribbled across it, and the spell breaks. As much as I would love to pretend otherwise, I’m not normal. This world is dangerous, and I cannot drag Bree into it. 

“You are going to stop asking questions and move on with you semester, because this conversation is over. I’m sorry Bree, but that’s final” I brace myself for her reaction, for that determined light in her eyes to fall. 

Instead, she laughs. “This isn’t over. I don’t know who you think you are, but you can’t tell me what to do” Bree whispers. 

And then she’s walking out the door, like she didn’t completely change my world after knowing me for less than 24 hours. I feel something stuck in my throat and bring my arm up to cover the cough. In my hand lies rose petals. 

Roses are for romantic love, bravery, and admiration. A bit cliché but I think it matches Nick really well lol.

In this universe, coughing up flowers happens when you love someone and have yet to confess. After confessing, the disease is no longer fatal (although it can persist if the love was not requited). The flowers can be just a sweet symbol like it is here, or it can be painful depending on how requited one thinks their love is. I was gonna do this for Bree and Sel too but this is feeling a bit long for a tumblr post, so I’m gonna leave it here. I’ll have the ones for Bree and Sel up soon!
