One of the things I love about Perry Mason is that they’re always eating. I think there’s at least one restaurant scene in every episode, and more sandwiches and coffee in the office than you could shake a breadstick at. I learned to make potatoes Lyonnaise because Perry and Della got them with their steaks more than once so I knew they must be good. The practice probably has a running tab with every takeout place in the neighborhood. I bet Gertie has a candy dish on her desk. Justice will not triumph on an empty stomach.

I think it’s so ironic that the Pony Express escapes a lot if not all blame in discussion. I can’t even say I am excused from it but it’s just how hard people circle back to the characters alone without considering the environment they were made to be in.
Why would they design a ship where only two of the rooms lock? Not the bathroom? Not the sleeping quarters? We assume that all the companies in the universe are this shallow and careless to their workers but we explicitly know the Pony Express in extra vile. They are fed processed slop pack they can’t even really cook and the ration of those pack is meager at best. They hired and made people with a plethora of conflicting demeanors and beliefs work together on a mission where cohesion is important if not an outright necessity and punish them for not being happy about it. There’s no social protocols, not chain of command other than Captain’s word/choice and the only way to enforce that is with a literal firearm. They don’t allow them to celebrate freely and even took away leisure activities that would make them less stir crazy. They are only allowed a few hours of sleep despite their being no other real responsibilities or work on the ship, no matter the position or its importance. With any crew, with any level of synergy, this was a powder keg waiting for a spark.
I’m not saying characters that made mistakes didn’t make huge ones, but I think part of the horror is that at least for some (this is targeting Jimathan) those mistakes are partly made by a force of the hand. There’s a running theme of lack of choice and being forced into something and the very nature of how The Pony Express expected them to function plays a big part.
#like even I forget that all actions taken in the game were people trying to remain in protocol outside of Jimmy#Anya couldn’t have jus stolen the scanner and got the gun cause she’s a sensible person and knows she’d be in legal trouble#or get everyone’s credits docked or just hoping that there’s some chain of command for this sort of thing#Daisuke only really acted in accordance to his direct superiors because he’s an intern he wouldn’t know the first thing about protocol or#what to do in any situation. like this is essentially implied to be his first real job#Curly may be the captain but he still has to follow rules and procedures and we see with the letter the Pony Express likely has very shady#and shitty ones. he gives the best not depressing or totalitarian options he can otherwise everything is just his word which aren’t even his#or like him just asserting his position with the gun which he wouldn’t do#Swansea follows the book begrudgingly because he’s trying to stay right and not fall back into who he once was#I feel like it’s not incorporated nearly enough that the environment they were dropped into heavily affected their actions#say there was a single person higher than Curly or a plan of action when a crew member is considered a danger to himself or others#I think it’s fascinating how people will stick to protocol and break when they get scared or to their limit#cause the game shows how normalcy deteriorates and I think discounting what the characters where put through by the company takes a way a#real and scary aspect of what happened to Anya because as a friend Curly didn’t do enough for her at all his comfort was there and he#appreciated but it was a distracted sort of care but as a Captain he didn’t protect her but he’s was a Captain of the Pony Express like what#if they told him to wait to? he still should’ve done something because Anya was actively suffering and Jimmy should’ve been reprimanded but#he’s a captain with orders like the Tulpar isn’t his ship in the same way like#god I wanna explain this in a way that makes sense but the Tulpar is like designed to breed animosity and work on the bare requirements one#needs to get things done that’s not how people work and if anyone deviates or interrupts that it literally has nothing to handle it#it becomes clear that if any social unrest happens why they just say fuck it and give the Captain the gun because if something happens the#blame can easily be placed on the person they put in charge despite what they put them#in charge of like this is just like work place harassment irl because often the perpetrators are not punished but the supervisors for not#stopping them with meetings or cuts or whatever but the environment the company fostered is rarely fixed or blamed#like why was this allowed to occur? and honestly that is because Jimmy did what he did#ask me about this if this is confusing cause I worded it crazy#mouthwashing#mouthwashing game#the pony express

A university janitor who turned off a freezer after hearing multiple “annoying alarms,” ruined more than 20 years of research, according to a lawsuit filed against his employer by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in upstate New York.
The janitor, who is not being sued in the lawsuit, was a contractor with Daigle Cleaning Systems Inc., who worked for several months in 2020 at the private research university in Troy.
The school is seeking more than $1 million in damages and legal fees from Daigle Cleaning Systems as a result of the incident.
The lab’s freezer contained over 20 years of research, including cell cultures and samples, to which a “small temperature fluctuation of three degrees would cause catastrophic damage,” according to the lawsuit filed with the Rensselaer County Supreme Court.
The college does not believe the janitor is at fault but instead blames Daigle Cleaning Systems for failing to properly train and supervise him, according to the suit.

the thing about the daredevil: born again overhaul is that i think it's possible the thing that wasn't working about the show is the fact that foggy and karen weren't in it. the article said that they were going for a dense legal procedural and that matt didn't actually get into the costume until episode 4, and the legal aspect of daredevil fundamentally does not work unless you have his LAW PARTNERS
#fucking crazy to me that they were going the legal procedural route WITHOUT FOGGY AND KAREN. ACTUALLY INSANE.#i feel like i'm going crazy. kevin feige i'll kill you#daredevil

Thinking about the Vishkar cybernetic “upgrade” happening as soon as a student turns a certain age (thinking something like 16 to give them time to get used to it before graduation/starting work with the company, though it could even be as young as 13). Thinking about Niran having to go through the procedure first since he’s 6 months older, and then Satya trying to swallow her growing fear as the months pass and she watches Niran suffer through the phantom pains and the emotional trauma of having a perfectly healthy part of your body cut off. While Niran wears his feelings loudly, Satya retreats into herself, plugging her ears while Niran cries in the night
#overwatch#symmetra#lifeweaver#since they’re under 18 it’s the parents that consent to the procedure#Nirans parents were desperate for him to not fail out of another school & Satya’s still believed Vishkar was her only ticket out of poverty#that’s if she even has parents at all tbh. Declassified said Vishkar prowls India scooping up orphans soo#if THAT’S the case that she had no choice at all because Vishkar probably legally owned her#(btw if it isnt obvious i do not subscribe to the ‘theyre gauntlets’ retcon.#they said Symmetra has a prosthetic. you don’t fucking go back on something like that.)

I haven’t seen it mentioned here, and just learned about it myself, but H.R 9495 Stop Terror-Financing and Tax Penalties on American Hostages Act, which was introduced in September, is on the schedule to be considered by the House tomorrow. I thought people may want to know about it.
The summary of the bill from the official site (which also includes other info including tracking it’s progress):
“This bill postpones certain tax filing deadlines for U.S. nationals and their spouses who are unlawfully or wrongfully detained abroad or held hostage abroad. It also allows for a refund and abatement of tax penalties and fines paid by detained individuals.
The bill terminates the tax-exempt status of terrorist supporting organizations. “
The full bill in pdf form - details on “Termination of tax-exempt status of terrorist supporting organizations” begins in section 4, page 10
If I understand correctly, organizations would be designated as such by the Secretary of the Treasury (with review by IRS and district courts)
#introduced by republican rep claudia tenny of new york btw#full disclousure im not legal-talk savvy i just try to skim through bill pdfs sometimes#also the schedule lists it as being considered ‘under suspension of the rules’#which based on wikipedia (since i didnt know it before) means#‘a procedure used to quickly pass non-controversial bills’

thinking about trans Julian again specifically thinking about the idea of Julian being trans but electing to not undergo any gender-affirming surgeries
like I was thinking about this the other day in the context of his line about him and Kira being the only other options for a womb when he had to transplant the baby from Keiko, because the implication that Julian has a womb also implies he's elected out of having a hysterectomy for gender-affirming purposes. I say that because we know gender-affirming surgeries- at least the more cosmetic ones- are very easy to undergo (see Profit and Lace, where they very quickly and easily turn Quark into a woman (yes I know it wasn't gender-affirming for him but its the easiest episode to use for my point)) so I feel like it wouldnt be a reach to say that a hysterectomy would be a fairly easy procedure to ask for and undergo
which as ive been thinking about it more I think this like. perfectly tracks with Julian as a character, that he would opt out of undergoing gender-affirming procedures. because I think, considering what his parents did to him and how strongly he resents it, that he would steer clear of anything he would view as "changing" himself. honestly so far in the future I think its safe to assume views of transitioning are very different, and I'd like to think that there wouldnt be nearly as much social pressure to physically transition at all, but even if there was I think Julian would be very resistant to the idea that he would "have" to change anything about himself. Julian is very unapologetically himself in every regard, so im pretty confident in saying that that would translate over to his gender identity and asserting that he is a man, and he doesnt need to change anything about himself or his body to be one
#star trek: ds9#julian bashir#I dont typically put this much thought into my trans hcs but Julian being trans is an hc that fascinates me#from a character analysis standpoint#I think he wouldnt physically transition at all!#I dont think he'd even go on hormones#'but what about the facial hair in the prison camp' afab people can grow facial hair without hormones#'but what about the lack of titty' he could be wearing a binder#frankly I dont think he even would I think he's just flat-chested#it would track with his build. beanpole man#but yeah Julian as a trans man who does not physically transition. things I am thinking about often#like I said Julian does not apologize for any aspect of himself and is very loudly himself#and he doesnt let other people's opinions of him change that#look at his friendship with Miles#Miles loves to remind Julian how annoying he is and Julian thinks its funny#I think its one of the reasons they get along so well honestly#cause sure Miles complains but he also wouldnt change Julian and Julian knows that#I dont read Julian as being insecure about himself#he hates what's been done to him but he isnt like. insecure about it. he knows it wasn't his fault#he hides it for legal reasons not because he's insecure#but I think his resentment over what was done to him ties directly into how he would resist undergoing any procedures or physical changes#frankly I think Julian hates being a surgery patient just in general#I think he hates any procedure he cant be awake for#and he fights like a cat trying to get out of a bath anytime he has to go under#but thats a whole other post and hc#anyways trans Julian supremacy

yk how like. some british people make "jokes" about school shootings in the usa which are obviously not at all funny. well not only is it not funny but also it's like. not hypocritical, exactly, but something like that. because whilst the usa's issue with violence against children is based around gun violence, the uk actually has a pretty similar issue with knife crime against children. so i think the bigger thing to focus on is "hey it's pretty fucked up that there is so much violence against children" rather than "at least we don't have guns". because whilst i don't agree with the first amendment, im not entirely sure guns themselves are the whole issue, since a similar level of knife crime exists in the uk.
basically: the "violence" part of "gun violence in the usa" is quite possibly the bigger thing to focus on rather than "gun", especially when you consider that you can say "knife violence in the uk" and it would be a comparable sentiment
#idk i was just thinking about the southport stabbings and the stabbings that happened in a welsh school this year#and of how commonplace it is for teens to die of stab wounds in major uk cities#like im sure guns may make it easier to commit those sort of violent acts#but arguably the fact that people are doing violence is more. societal.#if guns were not so commonplace in the usa people would use knives#if guns were legal in the uk there would be more gun violence rather than knife violence#anyway i always feel i need to add a disclaimer: im not a professional in this#like uk schools have more concrete lockdown procedures now - why? bc of the uptick in violence in schools#the weapon doesnt matter. the fact that people are committing violence in schools matter#obviously in some way the weapon does matter but. yeah.

ok maybe this is just me but i need to know like it’s bothering me… would maddie get in trouble for giving amir’s information to athena without verifying that she was actually on duty/needed that info? or would it be entirely on athena? i feel like there’s gotta be a verification process that you have to go through before you can give out information even to police officers especially if they’re asking outside of the official channels. like if athena had done what she was set out to do, and killed amir, would maddie have been implicated in that? would she have gotten in legal trouble for giving out his address? it’s been bothering me for days. i need to know
#911 abc#911 spoilers#911 fox#athena grant#maddie buckley#i feel like i specifically am thinking about this#mainly because one of my biggest fears is not following protocol/procedure and getting in legal trouble for it#like i am so deeply paranoid about it to the point where people find it frustrating#but like….
