We're almost at the end of three straight months of genocide, 30k deaths, nearly two million displaced and starving. If you're still calling the situation "nuanced" and "complicated" I'm going to beat you with a shovel.

The 50th anniversary of AIMs (American Indian Movement's) occupation at Wounded Knee is coming up, so the Lakota People's Law Project is leading another push to free an AIM activist who was wrongly convicted of killing two federal agents in 1975- Leonard Peltier. He was convicted on false evidence and false testimony and sentenced to two life sentences. He is now 78.

One thing that gets me everytime is that Stoick would have absolutely LOVED Zephyr. And Nuffink of course but I have this weird feeling that he wouldve doted non stop on Zephyr specifically. She wouldve been spoiled rotten by her grandfather, taken everywhere on top of his shoulders or the crook of his elbow. He would be reading her stories before bed. He would have learned to braid her hair and sat down with her on tea parties. He wouldve gone with her troll hunting. He would be there for her and her brother in the way he never got to be with Hiccup because the times were different now and then. He would absolutely be her best friend and Im SAD they never got to meet.

had an odd dream that i was reading a comic book. sketched a couple of the pages i could remember.
Tumblr media
#i might adapt this into an actual story because i am SO SO SO mad that it isn't a thing i can go back to reading#oc#im definitely keeping the concept of save-bot i fucking love save-bot he's just doing his best. i love a robot who wants to help people#im not equipped to be writing about underground rebellions with any sense of real tact though#besides its in a superhero universe/story so you know it would just be so sucks lol#sketch#god the colors were so interesting. the teal parts were all very precisely crosshatched and the fire was this gorgeous brush pen looking#colored inks that just seemed like they were MOVING#and i mean some of that was because i was dreaming but god even in my halfhearted copy you can see some of the movement#it was a bad scene but a really really REALLY fun dream. i love when a book can *get* to me so i was really enjoying it#put it aside so i could take a break and woke up. instant fury at the universe for not having it be a real book instead#ill reblog with details if anyone's curious. i can explain this scene but i dont feel like it#the green people are in a secret basement though. hiding from the government. blue jacket guy is a speedster robot named save-bot who does#rescue stuff with every fire department so fire suppression technology is not very good because save-bot "can just save you''#however they're badly over their legal occupancy and the secret basement has One (1) exit so everyone is like really fucked here.#includinig save-bot who is going to do his job until he dies because he is an ai without any sense of self preservation and he cares#which i didn't even CATCH until i woke up and started tryin to frantically note everything down#and then i was like wait. the glitter on that last page before i realized i needed a glass of water to keep reading... what WAS that...#(it was tears suspended in midair because save-bot goes so fast and also knows he's so fucked LOL)#seriously i'm so mad someone else didn't make this.

Third countries can be held accountable in international courts for collaborating in or contributing to genocide.
The ICJ's 2007 ruling on the Srebrenica Genocide affirmed that states, not just individuals, bear responsibility for such crimes.

my absolute favorite person in the world right now is a rich white suburban mom who has come to every protest, rally, and vigil for palestine in my city and who brings more and more of her friends and neighbors to each action.
she doesn't know any of the big legal terms, but she knows children are being killed and that's enough to mobilize her. queen.

The proposed crackdown on silica follows a fraught history of the mine safety agency's decades of failure to protect miners from the toxic dust. The proposal also overlooks a history of overexposure at coal mines.
Again, this downplays the need and justification for action.
The rule notes that 93% of silica dust samples have been in compliance with existing silica dust limits since 2016. But the remaining 7% of samples amount to 5,300 instances of excessive exposure to the dust based on the newly proposed limit, according to MSHA data analyzed by Louisville Public Media and Public Health Watch.
In the 30 years leading up to 2016, agency data analyzed by NPR and Frontline found 21,000 excessive silica dust samples based on the existing limit. More than twice that many dust samples — 52,000 — exceeded the newly proposed limit.
This means that coal miners worked amid dangerous levels of silica dust — which is easily inhaled, easily lodges in lungs and can lead to severe disease and death — tens of thousands of times in 30 years.
During those three decades, the risk of silica dust exposure increased, as mining consumed the thickest coal seams, leaving thinner seams embedded in rock. Cutting those thinner seams generated more fine silica particles.
Also, during that period, the agency did not respond effectively to the threat.

…oh good, Devin, I see you spent Gotham Knights #20-21 making the racism around Dick’s adoption worse on TWO further angles.
(This set I did already know about) (I hate it here)
Ok while I attempt to forget this whole plotline, let us instead enjoy this particular panel and the hilarious suggestion that No Man’s Land was “forced cessation”.
Tumblr media
Forced cession, you say? THAT LAND WAS NEVER CEDED. (Sorry, knee jerk habit there)
Ok time to consult Blackstone’s Commentaries as to the correct legal system and land ownership of Gotham.
If the United States did cede Gotham, who was it ceded to? The remaining inhabitants? The gangs and criminals it imprisoned inside? In that case, if it was ceded, the USA could not simply resume the land by executive order, but yet they did. Suspicious. The inhabitants have grounds to now sue the US government for stealing their clearly established connection to the land (Cobblepot (No. 2) incoming) AND for overruling the existing legal system on their illegal return (Dent v United States to adjudicate on whether any changes or charges under the NML legal system should be upheld. Legality of the Dent v Gordon trial is at stake!!)
Now can we instead call No Man’s Land ‘desert and uncultivated’ and consider whether ownership passed by settlement? No, and let’s all say “thank you Pamela Isley”, as Robinson Park demonstrably was cultivated land supporting the islands. It was not desert. The US does not have grounds to simply resettle Gotham. The existing inhabitants were civilised, despite any allegations or slurs by the US Government to the contrary when they blew the bridges.
The final consideration is whether ownership of Gotham as of 31 December 1999 was now held by the Blue Boys via right of conquest, given you can’t unilaterally uncede land and No Man’s Land did involve intra-community warfare of the local inhabitant, with the Blue Boys and the Bat holding the largest share of the land in the final days. Does the GC ex-PD hold title to Gotham by conquest and did THEY then cede the land back to the US? Also potentially Gotham held multiple overlapping contradictory legal systems given Penguin and Two-Face’s territories not observing US law. Given the compromises made by the Blue Boys could they be considered to have enacted additional local laws that now need to be distinguished from the outside US largely system? Is vigilantism now legal in Gotham?
In this essay I will…
