Caitlyn Kiramman (Color/Character analysis S02 Act 1+2) 1/2

This will be a very long post, and also just part 1 of 2 so settle in we go in!

At the beginning of the season we get to see Cait in her normal outfit and also with the known color scheme:

Blue girl, blue enforcer outfit. So mostly blue. She still had that color composition during her mother's funeral and during the memorial ceremony. Then she uses the Kiramman key (still above) and finds out about the grey and the venitlation system and this is also the beginning of her turning point. Of Caitlyn going down a different path from what she was aiming for in S01. Her mothers death and the attack during the memorial changed her. Cait being in a very instable emotional state, after loosing her mother and her legacy during the memorial sullied by an attack of some Zaunites, her former optimism and hope in people vanishes. Remember in S01 when she met Ekko and Ekko wanting to use the Gemstone to have something to stand agains Piltover, Caitlyn convinces Ekko not to go down that path. The path of violence would not solve this conflict, which has been there for years already.

She still believed in people and that people could change for the better and she pureheartedly also believed in her own convictions. But after all the loss and the continuous violence Caitlyn turns away from these ideals and goes down a different path. She now chooses violence, for stopping this war, but mostly I think for her personal reasons of seeking revenge. After going through the Kiramman archives she gears up, steps up and also shows this visibly, when she announces she's going to Zaun to finally make something happen:

She presents herself like this before the council, and this is the first time we see Caitlyn with a red choker. Her first step into going down the violent path. And it's just the beginning of it all. Cause as we know, moving on, after misusing the ventilation system to hunt down Jinx, the city is in need of new leadership, which is endorsed by Ambessa. Ambessa did her entire master plan shit, to get Caitlyn to take that role (for her as her personal puppet). We also know this means further violence on Caitlyn's path, because Ambessa is all about strength and empowerment over others. We visibly see this with Caitlyn receiving a cloak from Ambessa, which inner fabric is red and the big collar framing Cait's face in red:

With that we enter the vampire Caitlyn era:

We get to see a couple of scenes with her in dim lighting or not natural looking lighting such as in Singed's lab. During the prison investigation scene there's a lot of red light enveloping her. At this point she is deep down this path and also entangled in Ambessas inlfuence. Before moving on I still want to point out one thing that I came across, when it's just Caitlyn, not having to represent the leader of Piltover, a powerful and important person in front of others to command and lead, it's just her. No armor, no uniform, no influence, just her with her thoughts and back to her colors:

In this scene at the beginning of S02E04, she reflects on her actions, but mostly on the fact that Ambessa is still around and that there's so many Noxian soldiers in the city. There's complaints about them and Cait is wondering if that's how it's supposed to be or not. For a brief moment she doubts having Ambessa around much longer is the right way to go, but then Caitlyn comes to the conclusion it's for the best, cause that way not many Enforcers lost their lives and deems it to still be the right path for her (to be the vampire leader) But then she meets Ambessa the next day and we see a disagreement between Cait and Ambessa (also visualized). Caitlyn criticises the violent proceeding of Rictus agains the Zaunites at the checkpoint and therefore also criticising Ambessa's role and influence here. In this scene Caitlyn doesn't wear her cloak and is just in her Enforcer uniform, with her red choker (symbolizing her own decision for violent acting, right after her mother's death and not Ambessas doing):

As we know she continues to go down that path with Ambessa and we later get to see her in a sparring fight with Ambessa. Caitlyn said at the beginning of S02E04 that she learned so much from Ambessa and we see that it's not just limited to leadership and tactics, but also combat skills. Which I think is something Caitlyn only started to improve, cause she was always a marksman (the perfect shot) and in the backlines. While in training under Ambessa's instructions she wears a different outfit:

In my very honest and in my personal opinion, the outfit but also the colors look so off on her. And what in the fire nation is happening? XD I get that when you train under a certain instructor and certain techniques you also have to get all in. In this case she puts on clothes and colors that are alien to Cait, BECAUSE she's training in something she's not used to. Caitlyn was never a close combat fighter, but she now even aquires this skill. The off colors and a very different outfit from what we usually see on her reinforces the feeling of something alien on her and also something being put on her externally. This also takes place at Ambessa's HQ which takes Caitlyn away from the usual places we see her. Meaning she even went into the womb of the monster, entirely being engulfed by Ambessa and her doings in all regards. Later, Caitlyn reunites with Vi and we also see her finally snapping out of it. I like to believe that Vi calling her "Cupcake" gave her push she needed and furthermore understanding why Vi is there in the first place and what she's trying to defend. Caitlyn then decides to take down Ambessa and helps out Vi. So both of them make a plan on how to take Ambessa down and save Vander from being taken.

We now get to this scene, inside Ambessa's tent, where Caitlyn claims she captured Vi and delivers her to Ambessa. As we see (which I also pointed out in another post of mine) the inside of the tent has all red. BUT Caitlyn, still only in her Enforcer uniform, facing Vi and turning her back to Ambessa. And also turning her back to the brighter tones of red in that scene, just focussed on Vi the entire time, until Singed continues with the mission on hand. Only then Cait turns around waits for the order to leave and then leaves. And with that also finally leaving being Ambessa behind, cause she knows Vi is about to take her down. I am really looking forward to Act 3 (I'M ALSO VERY SCARED AND I AM NOT READY), and to see how this continues and if I can do a follow up analysis So I think colors, lighting and scene composition are so vital to the story telling. And it's so pretty! I love the visuals of this show. AND omg I am also so normal about Caitlyn. I love her so much, and aaaah she is so my character type ASDFGHJKL Thanks for reading! I was underwhelmed by Series 1 of KIN, a by-the-numbers gloomy Irish crime drama leavened only by the presence of Clare Dunne and Ciarán Hinds. However, after enduring the agonizing season finales of FOR ALL MANKIND and MONARCH: LEGACY OF MONSTERS, I thought some basic storytelling competence would be a worthwhile change of pace, so I reluctantly put on Series 2 of KIN.

Unfortunately, I quickly realized that writer Peter McKenna had decided to liven things up with a veritable container ship load of intensely toxic masculinity, in the form of Francis Magee as newly released family patriarch Bren Kinsella, who immediately seeks to put the Clare Dunne character in her place while urging all the other male characters to outbursts of brutal macho horseshit. I guess it's livelier than S01, but if this brand of "Just be a fookin' man!" masculinity squicks you, S02 is like having diesel exhaust pumped directly into your home. Magee's character does make Charlie Cox and Aidan Gillen seem less unbearable than in the first season, but at what cost? Worse, the plot is still straight from the Planet of Gloomy Crime Drama Clichés. It might be more endurable if it had even one original idea, but I'm still waiting.

Here's the thing about Legacies

Like TVD, I think Legacies had the potential to be a supernatural power house like BTVS was before it but they were so stuck in the formula and doing what they'd always done before that they refused to take risks and apart of that was refusing to get rid of Julie Plec as a writer.

The TVDU was/is in desperate need of some new blood to actually take the series where it should've been taken.

Both TVD and Legacies biggest strengths were its female characters and how powerful they were capable of being but unfortunately Julie Plague had this disgusting habit of stripping them of their power just to hand it off to a male character to prop them up constantly.

She did this with Bonnie and Elena (& sometimes but not too much with Caroline) - stripping them entirely of their autonomy, turning them into a damsel in distress just so she could prop up the Salvatores.

I knew from the second it was announced Nina Dobrev was leaving the show that she was going to do with to Bonnie.

I'd hoped there would've been someone to stop her from this but I didn't hold my breath for it because we all know the TVDU writers room are just Julie Plex yes men.

Caroline was mostly spared from this (only finding herself in the whole damsel and distressing in the beginning of S01 and S07) but I think it's that way because Julie started using her as a self-insert for herself after S03 when she became oddly fixated with the Salvatore Brothers that creeped me out.

I think if I could change one thing about Legacies is make it more about female empowerment like Buffy always was. Get rid of all that stuff where they sacrifice all of Hope's storylines for ship stuff.

I mean, I love Landon and all his dorkiness. I mean I love Landon, all his dorkiness included.

I mean I love Landon and his dorkiness but I think these characters should learn to exist without a relationship defining them.

But characters should be able to exist on their own without there being so reliant on who they are currently dating and that's the problem with Julie Plec. She cannot write a character without them being defined by who they are dating and she completely massacre's them when their already established as being interesting on their own and removes everything until there is nothing left but who they are in love with.

It makes me so angry that she does this and it's why I don't really accept anything that happened on TVD as cannon after she became the head writer.

I have enjoyed following you for years and appreciate your curation of WoT book facts and tidbits. That being said, I think you're being deliberately obtuse about the show and criticizing the fandom response. This is directly regarding your commentary about Sanderson's commentary on s02. How is it delusional of the fandom to criticize Sanderson for being such a dweeb about a season he has admitted he didn't even watch? When he coined "another turning of the Wheel," he was watching the whole season. He was being reasonable and, as before stated, knew what he was talking about because he actually watched season one.

tl;dr Brandon Sanderson at least watched s01 before he commented on it. Criticizing s02 without watching it and claiming he needs to fix the series because it's his legacy is unhinged of him.

anyway I may regret ever sending this but I have been a happy and loyal follower of yours for years and I am disappointed in how unreasonable you have become when discussing the show and fandom response. You can never regret when there is communication. Communication is vital part and its lacking in the Fandom of No Communication is devastating. You are sending the ask based on this part and I will walk you through it.

I am deliberately restrained about the show actually. It may look otherwise only because criticism of the show is met as declaration of nuclear war around. If it was not, then we wouldn’t have that mess with Brandon in the first place as his critique was obviously mild, even bland at most parts. He could do so much worse if he really wanted to do real damage. Even such light comments by him on the show are being met with hostility on the point of declaring cancelation. Do I dare to compare what it would be then if Brandon have decided to shit on the show for real?

But again, I may seem obtuse only because I comment about incompetence which many others wish to ignore. I do not talk about actors, I do not talk about other departments. I only speak about incompetence in the writing room. By coincidence Brandon did the same thing and nothing else. The fandom’s response is obtuse and tone deaf censorship in this case so that is why being criticized.

It is delusional in the light of ignoring the other part of Brandon’s confession. He read the scripts. Why this part is being ignored? Why Brandon must watch the visual part of the show when he only criticizes the script - that part where you need reading for? This access to the scripts actually gives better claim on Brandon rather than just watching the show. Because it is delusional to not acknowledge that by reading the script Brandon has access to the bigger picture of show’s storytelling. He read all the scenes that have been deleted in the editing process, scenes which connect and explain stuff deeper and better. He wouldn’t know how good everything fits if he doesn’t watch the show? What? Exactly the opposite, he knows how good everything fits better than anybody else because it is even better explained in the script which the audience is robbed off in the editing process.

This is factually wrong. I do not remember the exact date right now, but I am 100% positive he coined it before reading the scripts of episodes 7 and 8. He got these two much much later as he couldn’t give them any notes on that before filming them.

What I can find on fast search is latest date to be 8th of January 2021 when he referenced that he already has coined the phrase before.

So when he put the term in timeframe he only had the conversations with Judkins and probably read some scripts. The phrase was coined before, not after watching season one. That’s for sure. Strange to frame this argument with fundamental factual mistake.

Brandon criticizes the writing and only this. For the writing he had all the information that he needed to base his opinion upon because he had the bigger picture in mind which we do not have. If he thinks that the writing needs to be fixed, he can express it free as everybody else. Why he wouldn't be? If he doesn’t like the effects, the actors, the music or anything else that is depending on visual medium then he would be arguably unhinged.

Also why we don’t ask the question why Brandon didn’t watch the episodes? He had the time to read the scripts and to argue about them with Judkins but do not have time to watch? He is Wheel of Time super fan and also author. Is it plausible for such person to be that busy? It is speculation and I do not know this information – I can only assume that reading the scripts convinced him to not watch.

I am always open for communication. My obtuse takes on the show do not prevent me of wishing for the bigger picture - to dismantle the miscommunication in the fandom that does not allow different opinions to be acknowledged but canceled instead.

At the end, it is your decision and I cannot hold you if you are not loyal anymore. I hope you found your happiness as Internet is vast and there is place for everyone.

I rarely read fanfics, i barely had the time to read this year, but I read a short this year (or maybe at the end of the last year), when The Witcher netflix season 2 came out, and it utterly destroyed my favourite characters. Many people hopped in and started to write fanfics to ease our pain. It was amazing and heartwarming to read them. <3

24. best episode you watched this year

I got blessed with so many amazing series this year, I really cant choose one again.

The first and the last episode of The Interview with the Vampire. I have been a huge fan of vampires, and I really like Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, so seeing a quality series out of her story is amazing. The actors, the cinematography are amazing. Just pure love. Also there is a biiiiiig reveal in the last episode, which introduces my all time fav character in the series.

Also from Sandman S01 The Sound of Her Wings, and the Lost Hearts. I had a blast watching Sandman, its amazing!

25. best movie you watched this year

Black Panther Wakanda Forever - its a beautiful one. Seeing the diverse cast, the cultures they are showing there, it warmed my heart. Also seeing how much it means this to people of the colors. Its breathtaking, its beautiful. <3 We need more movies like this one, because representation fucking matters!!

Seeing the reactions to the Black Panther. Its so heartwarming.
