MOVING
GENRES: Sci-Fi, Drama
SUMMARY: A handful of superhuman parents refuse to keep working for the government and instead lay low to protect something more precious than national security: their children.
THIS SHOW HAS EVERYTHING: Superheroes on stage, skipping class, bullying, black ops, fried chicken, ceiling nets, college entrance exams, tonkatsu, young love, getting lost, 404 computer errors, city bus chases, justice, North Korean terrorism, revenge, bullet souvenirs, and parental monsters.
HOT TAKE: I. Loved. This. Show. There, I said it. I have so much to say about this show I can't possibly fit it all in this pithy review. I laughed, I cried, I gasped. I fell in love with these characters immediately, I rooted for them, and felt their pain when they faced personal defeat.
This show is honestly for everyone. It's got slice of life high school drama, adorable romance, sci-fi superpowers, government corruption, well-staged action [Trigger Warning: there's a lot of blood, wounds, and flesh-squelching sounds along with the action scenes], and a little bit of mystery to tie the whole package together. And I would totally sit through Zo In Sung in several 'John Wick' style movies without batting an eye.
WATCH THIS SHOW.

TV Shows/Dramas watched in 2023
Moving (2023, South Korea)
Directors: Park In Je & Park Younseo
Writer: Kang Full
Mini-review:
I enjoyed this so much. I must admit I struggled a bit with the first few episodes, but once the show gets its setup process out of the way, it becomes a very engrossing drama. It's both a superhero story with a big heart and a espionage thriller, and I just love how Moving manages to mix those two genres. The whole cast is great, both the veteran actors and the newcomers, and the production values are fantastic (although the CGI has some iffy moments here and there). The ending felt a bit rushed, but it was also very satisfying. There are also a few scenes that point to a possible second season or spin-off, and I really hope we get some sort of follow-up. After spending seven weeks with these characters, I know I'm gonna miss them.

Chemistry between actors was amazing, but the storyline tho... in KDrama
Kang Sora as Oh Hara and Jung Seungjo as Goo Eun Beom in Strangers Again: the story ruined everything
Lee Jaewook as Baek Kyung and Kim Hye Yoon as Eun Dan Oh in Extraordinary You:only if Baek Kyung wasn't written as a red flag by the manhwa writer
Jeon Doyeon as Gil Bok Soon and Koo Kyo hwan as Han Hee Seong in Kill Bok Soon: the storyline was good for a crime thriller but unfortunate for them
Moon Sangmin as Lee Jihan and Jeon Jong Seo as Na Ah Jung in Wedding Impossible :they get happy ending but the storyline was messy imo
Lee Jaewook as Han Tae Oh and Choi Hee Jin as Kang Hee Joo in The Impossible Heir : yall know why. Everything in this drama was messed up except the chemistry between these two actors
Ki Do Hoon as Yangcha and Kim Ji Won as Tanya in Arthdal Chronicles: basically Kim Ji Won has chemistry with everyone she acts alongside
Lee Jae In as Lee Yoon Seo and Cha Woo Min as Ko Kyung Jun in Night Has Come: honestly I didn't even consider them before I saw all those edits on YT
Go Youn Jung as Jung Jisoo and Seo In Guk as Kim Seong Hyeop in Death's Game: even the smallest moments between them was enough to establish how beautiful chemistry they had
Lee Dohyun as Go Chang Myung and IU as Jang Man Wol in Hotel Del Luna: one of the best pairings in a KDrama to exist

NCT x Hunger Games: Tributes and Training
This AU marble has been rolling around in my brain since I rewatched all the movies, the obsession slowly creeping its way back into my subconscious. This is a very niche crossover so I'm not expecting the Venn diagram intersection to be that large, but for those of you who live for things like this...CZENNIE THIS IS FOR YOUU
I've taken creative liberties in order to flesh out each of their backgrounds. Likewise, I've adjusted their ages into eligibility for the games while maintaining their age gaps. Any alliance/friendship talk is strictly platonic.
This particular Games is a Quarter Quell in which two boys and two girls are selected from each District to compete in separate arenas.
WARNING: naturally, this is a Hunger Games AU, which can be heavy subject matter for some people. The AU deals with things like death and weapons and fighting. Likewise, this is a work of fiction. This is not meant to reflect at all on the real-life members of NCT. I don't believe any of them are capable of the horrors of a fictional Hunger Games. I focus more on the Arena/survival element of the Games and the challenges created by the Gamemakers. Please proceed with caution.
Dong Sicheng (Winwin) 17 yrs old
Hailing from a prestigious family, Winwin has had many years to hone his skills for the Hunger Games. He would not consider himself a Career as his focus drifted to other skills growing up, but he is well-loved by the District and the most likely candidate for doting sponsors.
Quiet, mild-mannered, swift—Winwin is a capitol favorite for a reason. He knows how to conduct himself in front of a crowd and has the wisdom of age on his side. Although he is the inheritor to immense wealth, he appears humble.
His chosen skill is hand-to-hand combat in the form of tae kwon do, disarming his opponents before they can attack. Winwin is agile and quick in the heat of the moment.
He forms an official alliance with Chenle (District 1) and an unofficial alliance with Ten Lee (District 8).
Winwin receives an evaluation score of 9
Zhong Chenle 14 yrs old
Son of one of the oldest legacies in the Capitol. He’s not much interested in fighting and wishes he could study instead, but there is an honor owed to his family who has won in the Hunger Games for generations. At 18, he would be required to volunteer, but it is considered a stroke of fortune that his name was chosen while he was still so young.
Chenle is polite, but he can be brash and impulsive, especially when he feels as though he’s been insulted. His youth is at his detriment, he is prone to complaining and moping rather than problem-solving.
His chosen skill is sword-wielding due to his experience in fencing. His survivalist skills, however, are low, and he grows weary quickly.
He forms an alliance with Winwin (District 1).
Chenle receives an evaluation score of 5
Jeong Jaehyun 17 yrs old
A Career Tribute from District 2, Jaehyun is the betting chip on everyone’s mind. Having grown up in gladiator rings and training facilities, he is prepared for the viciousness of the Arena. The District has been talking about his year in the Games since he was a young boy, so he volunteered in hopes to win before his father passes away from his illness.
Stern, stubborn, and realistic, Jaehyun is the face of a District in the business of war. But he has a sensitive side and tends to see much of himself in younger Tributes, a dangerous underbelly to have in the Arena.
Jaehyun does not form any official alliances, but he seems to get along well with Johnny Suh (District 7) and has sympathy for Park Jisung (District 10)
His chosen skill is combat by swords as a result of his gladiator training. He is well-versed in other forms of combat as well, especially close-combat.
Jaehyun receives an evaluation score of 11
Na Jaemin 15 yrs old
Another Career Tribute from District 2, Jaemin volunteered after Jaehyun did. Though he has been training just like Jaehyun, he is significantly younger and seemingly too eager to get out to the Arena. He craves the glory of winning it all and scoffs at the work that it takes to get there. His District is divided in their feelings about him: some commend his fighting spirit in volunteering so young while others believe he took the chance from older, more deserving Careers.
Voracious, greedy, and quick-witted, Jaemin is nothing short of a wild card in the coming Games. No one knows whether he’ll tap into his formal training or fly off the handle in a desperate attempt to win. However, the consensus remains that there is no way he will be able to beat Jaehyun if it comes down to the two of them.
Jaemin does not form any alliances.
His chosen skill is knife-throwing, a form of distance combat that can easily turn to close combat.
Jaemin receives an evaluation score of 8
Lee Taeyong 18 yrs old
Taeyong is the son of the president of District 3. As a showing of solidarity with the people of the District, his name was inserted into the drawing one hundred times. Thus, he anticipated the Games and began to study. He is neither beloved nor despised by his people, but his father hoped his son’s sacrifice in the Games would spur public support. Whether it has or not might determine his success.
Taeyong is intelligent, but he is also timid and hesitant, untrusting of his own decisions. Likewise, he is sensitive to extreme temperatures and dehydration which could prove deadly if he is not careful.
Taeyong forms an alliance with Doyoung (District 3) and Kun (District 6)
His chosen skill is survivalism. His intelligence can help him, but he must live long enough to put it into effect.
Taeyong receives an evaluation score of 6
Kim Doyoung 17 yrs old
The son of a wealthy and successful family in District 3, Doyoung is another strong contender. What he lacks in brute strength he makes up for in unprecedented genius. Doyoung’s family is well-known for their contributions to the District and the Capitol, which meant his name was only inserted once this year, but the odds were not in his favor. Even so, there are high hopes for his success.
Rational, brilliant, and thorough, Doyoung is a likely contender for the Game. Yet, his brusque nature and high odds make him a target for more inexperienced players. If they let him out of their sight, it could spell trouble for everyone.
Doyoung forms an alliance with Taeyong (District 3) and Kun (District 6)
His chosen skill is primitive trapping and rigging technology as well as plant/animal identification. He is learning as much as he can about all the possible terrains so that he might have the highest chance of success in each.
Doyoung receives an evaluation score of 9
Moon Taeil 18 yrs old
In his last year of eligibility, Taeil was reaped from his forty-three entries. He is from a widely-known family in the district, notable for their many children and need for tesserae each year. Although he is not a strong fighter, he is a beloved icon of the simplicity of District 4, the residents of which support him enthusiastically.
Taeil has age on his side, imbuing him with a strong responsibility and loyalty. But his skills are lacking and he may not have what it takes to even compete in the games. He is strong in the upper part of his body from helping with the fishing nets, and he has nimble fingers from the various repairs that needed to be made. His District loves him, but they are not hopeful for his return. He is far too self-sacrificial.
Taeil does not form any alliances.
His chosen skill is wound care and herbal remedy brewing. He may not be able to fight, but he can tend to wounds inflicted by other Tributes. His fingers are skillful and his recovery time is quick.
Taeil receives an evaluation score of 6
Huan Guanheng (Hendery) 16 yrs old
Hendery volunteered in place of his ill, feeble younger brother who would stand no chance in the Arena. His District and the Capitol commended his bravery, but he is tight-lipped in interviews and hesitant to speak too highly of himself. He has a sort of whimsical mysteriousness that keeps people intrigued, but he suffers on the front of gaining sponsors.
However, Hendery is crafty and resourceful. He would do well in a hot tropical climate with bodies of water. His senses are heightened; he can hear and feel what others cannot. However, he is extremely trusting which could cause him trouble with the other Tributes.
Hendery forms an alliance with Xiao Dejun (District 11) and Huang Renjun (District 11)
His chosen skill is spear-throwing, hoping to extrapolate his knowledge of spearfishing into combat. He does best at a distance. He has incredible stamina when running.
Hendery receives an evaluation score of 7
Lee Haechan 15 yrs old
Haechan was reaped for District 5, the youngest of his family and last to still be eligible for the Games. He promised his District that he would win during one of his historic Capitol interviews which has garnered a good bit of sponsorship buzz for him in the preparatory period. He has a mischievous and playful air, even knowing his fate.
He is somewhat petulant in training which makes him an instant target of some of the more skilled tributes. He doesn’t seem all that interested in preparing for the games and much prefers to joke around. His lack of preparation could prove fatal even in the face of his raw stamina. However, he never doubts himself and is quick in deciding what to do.
Haechan forms an alliance with Mark Lee (District 5).
His chosen skill is trapping. He focuses in training on creating primitive trip wires and explosives to hopefully stay in the trees while his opponents fall for his games. He can go many days without food, making his plan a promising one.
Haechan receives an evaluation score of 8
Mark Lee 16 yrs old
Mark hails from a modest District 5 upbringing. His mother and father work in the factories. His older brother died as a Tribute in the previous Hunger Games. His story is compelling to Capitol-dwellers as he seeks to ‘avenge’ his brother’s death. However, Mark is not what they expect him to be, much more soft-spoken and amiable. This disappointment costs him a few precious sponsors.
Mark is good-natured. He wants to live, but he is haunted by the thought of witnessing the death of any of the other Tributes. Haechan tries to encourage him to get into it, but he’s far too nervous. His temperament dampens his odds of winning.
Mark forms an alliance with Haechan (District 5).
His chosen skill is survivalism and climbing. He has significant experience in scaling battery towers in his district. He plans to stay in the trees with Haechan as long as he can.
Mark receives an evaluation score of 6
Qian Kun 17 yrs old
Kun is reaped as the one boy rather than two to be sent to the Quarter Quell because of the District's contributions to the Capitol in the past year. He comes from a dependable family and is the grandson of a former victor. He hasn’t had much training, but he has traveled around the districts and experienced a variety of terrains. He camps and hunts and fishes occasionally. His kind face makes him an attractive option for sponsors.
It is not just Kun’s face that is kind. He, too, is soft-edged while still being determined and calculating. He takes on a leadership role with some of the younger tributes but reminds them that he is not their protector in the Arena, as much as the idea hurts him. Kun’s comfort in the great outdoors is his greatest asset.
Kun does not form any official alliances, but he is well-liked by most of the tributes.
His chosen skill is combat with a sharp sickle. He trains with other weaponry too, showing little partisanship.
Kun receives an evaluation score of 9
Johnny Suh 18 yrs old
In his last year of eligibility, Johnny Suh is reaped for the Games. Though he is not an official Career Tribute, his skill is similar to that of one and he becomes one of the top bets for victory. His aunt was a victor some years back. His older sister competed but was the second to last Tribute to be killed. He and his family are well-known in the District. He is strikingly handsome as well, garnering him some adoring sponsors.
While Johnny is the recipient of such adoration, he is rather serious and grave when it comes to the games. He has an assuredness about him, but it didn’t come easily. He trusts his own skill and strength. He is a bit of a lone wolf, however, despite getting along with the other tributes.
Johnny does not form any official alliances, but he gets along well with Jaehyun (District 2).
His chosen skill is combat with dual axes. He can engage both in close combat and climb trees and cliffs with the tools.
Johnny receives an evaluation score of 10
Lee Jeno 15 yrs old
While younger than Johnny, Jeno seems far more eager to be a Tribute in the Games. He is an only child and has never had his name in more than five times. Even though his odds of entering the Arena were slim, he continued to prepare by studying the performance of other victors and committing the various traps, landscapes, and dangers to memory. He is just as handsome and appealing as Johnny, but his sometimes abrasive personality drives sponsors away.
Jeno is not as level-headed as Johnny. He is ambitious and bold but likewise brash and unfeeling. He wants to succeed after having trained for so long, but the pressures of representing his District begin to weigh on him as he trains. He wants to be in alliances, but has a hard time getting to know people without remembering what he will have to do to them. He develops a fleeting friendship with Jaemin (District 2), but they part ways officially the night before the Games begin.
Jeno does not form any alliances.
His chosen skill is axe-wielding. He is not as experienced as Johnny, but he is strong and capable.
Jeno receives an evaluation score of 9
Chittaphon Leechaiyapornkul (Ten) 17 yrs old
Nearly to the end of his eligibility, Ten is reaped from his handful of entries into the Games. There is nothing particularly interesting about his upbringing. His parents are like many others, factory workers in textiles. His has an older sister who successfully avoided the Games.
Captivating, elegant, and verbally venomous, Ten receives a good bit of attention from the Capitol thanks to his television appearances as a child. He knows the games to play to put people in suspense and keep them coming back for more. He becomes a conditional favorite, always teetering between pandering jabber and cutthroat critiques of the Capitol.
Ten forms an alliance with Winwin (District 1).
His chosen skill is stealth and sleight of hand. He practices hiding in different terrains as well as pickpocketing other Tributes.
Ten receives an evaluation score of 8
Nakamoto Yuta 18 yrs old
Yuta is happy to have helped thousands of other children evade Reaping, or so he’s said as much in his interviews. His parents died in a factory fire when he was young, and he has no siblings to care for or return to. He is essentially the Game’s perfect candidate—a perfect sacrifice.
Yuta loves to perform for the people. He is charming in conversation and always impeccably dressed, thanks to his stylists from District 8. He seems unaffected by the reality of the Games and wants to lift everyone’s spirits, even the Tributes. He gains a small following of sponsors, but they are wary to support him since he has seemingly no reason to make it out alive.
Yuta does not form any alliances.
His chosen skill is survivalism, particularly shelter-building and knot-tying. He has a bit of training in hand-to-hand combat, but not much. However, due to growing up in a landlocked District, Yuta cannot swim.
Yuta receives an evaluation score of 8
Yangyang 15 yrs old
Because the previous victor of the Games was from District 9, the Quarter Quell only requested one boy from the District to compete, still chosen by the Reaping. Although he is young, he has been living away from home learning herbal recipes and remedies from a mentor in the mountains, so he has skills that would otherwise be undeveloped in his region.
Yangyang is immature on the surface but tireless and perceptive when it comes to healing. His affinity for plant identification makes him an interesting Tribute for the Capitol to follow, especially after allegations that the Gamemakers rate this sort of skill unfairly in the evaluations. In interviews, however, Yangyang can be somewhat oblivious, missing smaller social cues from the interviewer and answering questions in a dizzyingly straightforward manner.
Yangyang forms an alliance with Shotaro (District 12) and Sungchan (District 12)
His chosen skill is flora/fauna identification as well as herbal healing remedies.
Yangyang receives an evaluation score of 7
Kim Jungwoo 16 yrs old
Reaped right after Jisung, Jungwoo finds himself at least psychologically tasked with his protection. He doesn’t know Jisung or his family, but it hurts him too much to go into the Arena without at least keeping an eye on the boy. However, he is counting on his own survival so that he may return to his ailing parents and care for them.
Jungwoo is principled, he doesn’t like to do what is against his personal values. He is sweet, earning him positive attention from many sponsors. However, he comes off as weak-willed, bringing a wave of disapproval from both his District who expect him to protect Jisung and those in the Capitol who are betting on him.
Jungwoo forms an alliance with Jisung (District 10).
His chosen skill is survivalism, especially killing and cooking his own food thanks to his vast knowledge in livestock rearing. He is not very skilled in combat, but he can stay alive if he is not found by other Tributes.
Jungwoo receives an evaluation score of 6
Park Jisung 13 yrs old
This year’s youngest Tribute, Jisung is chosen from just three entries in his second year of eligibility. He has a younger sister who needed food for the year, thus his extra entry. His mother is despondent, claiming that the entry for the tesserae was the one that got him Reaped. Many sponsors feel bad for the young boy and want to at least see him make it past the first day.
Jisung is quiet and shy. He is young, small, and fast which gives him advantage in distance combat, but he cannot defend himself in any other way. As he was walking up to the stage, his mother grabbed him and told him to hide and never come out. He is expected to do just that.
Jisung forms an alliance with Jungwoo (District 10) and an unlikely friendship with Jaehyun (District 2).
His chosen skill is camouflage and hiding. He is practicing his climbing and running stamina. His survivalist skills are low, but he knows his way around animal temperaments.
Jisung receives an evaluation score of 4
Xiao Dejun (Xiaojun) 16 yrs old
Xiaojun was born to a well-off family in District 11, strictly in comparison to others in the area. His mother died when he was very young, so he and his father didn’t need as many tesserae with just the two of them. Thus, Xiaojun was raised on a family farm, usually hiding in the reeds with a crossbow to shoot off crows from the crops.
Xiaojun is strikingly beautiful. He almost has a Capitol-like face which makes him an instant favorite. However, he is shy and nervous, especially in interviews. He takes his family and his home very seriously, growing visibly irritated whenever someone speaks poorly of them. He doesn’t like the fancy clothes he has to wear for televised appearances; he finds them uncomfortable.
Xiaojun forms an alliance with Renjun (District 11) and Hendery (District 4).
His chosen skill is archery/crossbow because of his experience in the crop fields. He is highly skilled and good at sneaking up on his prey.
Xiaojun receives an evaluation score of 7
Huang Renjun 15 yrs old
Renjun comes from a very poor family with many mouths to feed, hence his heightened odds in the reaping. He is very close to his family and dependent on them, so he takes on a rather sorrowful disposition once he is in the Capitol, unable to enjoy any of the preceding festivities. In an interesting twist, his unusual air gains him a good following from those in the Capitol. They suspect he will be a dark horse in the Games.
Prudent, uncomplaining, Renjun has a leg up on other Tributes his age simply because of his wisdom and maturity. He knows when to keep quiet and when to speak his mind. He is straightforward in all of his interviews and in his evaluations. He assures people that his size will not impede him in the end. He will do everything he can to live.
Renjun forms an alliance with Xiaojun (District 11) and Hendery (District 4).
His chosen skill is hiding and attacking from a distance with poison blow darts. He’s been practicing his aim and accuracy during his sessions as well as the best way to hide after he’s been spotted.
Renjun receives an evaluation score of 6
Osaki Shotaro 15 yrs old
It is widely uncommon for two chosen Tributes to know one another, much less to be childhood friends. But for Shotaro and Sungchan, this is exactly the case. Though they weren’t standing side-by-side in the crowd due to their age difference, they were doing so on stage once the Tributes had been announced.
Shotaro has a soft and understanding personality. He becomes known in the Capitol for his encouraging smile and sweetness towards the other Tributes in training, but some believe that his vulnerability will hurt him in the Arena, thus costing him a good bit of sponsors. But it might just be his high spirits that help him endure the hardest moments of the Games.
Shotaro forms an alliance with Sungchan (District 12) and Yangyang (District 9).
His chosen skill is machete-wielding for survivalism and self-defense.
Shotaro receives an evaluation score of 7
Jung Sungchan 14 yrs old
Because of their friendship, Sungchan and Shotaro tend to keep to themselves in training and interview preparation. Their partnership is appealing to Capitol-dwellers, most of them curious about what will be done if they are the remaining two Tributes where only one victor can emerge. Their mentor advises them to play up their friendship for the crowds.
Sungchan is more outgoing than Shotaro and gains the most attention during his television appearances. He tells well-times jokes and knows when to step back and reassess. His skills tend to extend to training, but he is still young and sensitive to the intensity of the whole ordeal. Shotaro is protective over him, especially around other Tributes.
Sungchan forms an alliance with Shotaro (District 12) and Yangyang (District 9)
He does not choose a skill. During training, Sungchan practices a little bit of everything, and during his evaluation, he simply creates an altar of rocks dedicated to his father who was killed in the mines when he was young.
Sungchan receives an evaluation score of 2

Death's Game (2023-24)
This is a smartly written show based on a webtoon that I have not read. The acting is top notch, and overall it is very effective and a quick watch. A few choices they made left me with some lingering questions...
What Worked
I liked the cast, especially the portrayal of Death by Park So-dam. I wouldn't say it's my favorite portrayal (*cough* Discworld *cough*), but the way Ms. So-dam managed to be both playful and pitiless, with a touch of someone weary of existence was interesting to watch.
And the way the clockwork pieces of the story came together at the end was also very satisfying, with the last two episodes making a touching coda.
What Didn't Work
I have quibbles. Not because the bad outweighed the good, but because the good parts made the "not so great" parts of the show stick out.
Much of the CGI was janky-af. There were goo-gah problems. The showrunners either didn't know how to use the effects budget properly, or they didn't have the right tools to do the job because there were scenes that threw me out. I assume (generously) that they were homages to something the webtoon did that the showrunners liked, but the CGI was not up to the task.
I also didn't like the terrible child abuse plotline. It was off-putting, and it didn't really add anything to the show.
Also, the metaphysics left me scratching my head in a few places. The overall message of the show is pretty good / standard existentialism, but trying to match that up with the "fire and brimstone" aesthetic they had going for Death frustrated me. It feels like they wanted to say that—even through suffering—existence is still worthwhile. But there was this fear of judgement and eternal damnation hanging over the main character the entire show that seemed to undercut that message. If existence is enough by itself, why do we need an afterlife of torment?
Maybe the webtoon fixes that problem, but the show did not.
Also, there were times when their message around suicide was confusing and a bit preachy. It's definitely a touchy issue in Korean culture though, so the fact that they're talking about it at all is something.
The Performances
Park So-dam as Death. The best part of the show, and that's saying alot because they brought in some good talent. I would have liked a few moments at the end of the show with some compassion or empathy from this character. Or at least having them show Death acknowledging the overall purpose behind their actions, but the performance itself was still great.
Seo In-guk as ("Confused Protagonist") Choi Yi-jae. Overall, the lead did a good job. I had some issues with the way Yi-jae was characterized at the beginning: he was angry and almost prideful towards Death, but somehow meek in his first life? How does that match up? This was more of a writing / show problem and could probably have been fixed if we'd had more time to get to know the character (which means more episodes).
Kim Mi-kyung as Yi-jae's (Tired) Mother. This is nothing new for Kim Mi-kyung, but still a good performance. This is another case where it would have helped if we had gotten to know the character before everything started to go bad, but a touching performance overall.
Go Youn-jung as ("Writer / Girlfriend") Lee Ji-su. I liked her alot in Moving and she was good here in a very different role. They gave her one solid episode where we got to know her, and it was really great. Again, more time at the start with her and Yi-jae would have made the show even better.
Lee Jae-wook as (MMA / Prisoner) Cho Tae-sang. Always fun to see this guy on the screen. I especially enjoyed the humor he brought to the crazy situation he was in.
Oh Jung-se as ("Old Detective") An Ji-hyeong. Another great actor knocking it out of the park. Oh Jung-se was the anchorman for this relay race, and he did a good job.
Kim Kang-hoon as ("Teenager in Crisis") Kwon Hyeok-su. This guy did such a good job that he legitimately felt like a younger version of Choi Yi-jae. Really good to watch, even if the situation / setting was kind of bleak.
Lee Do-hyun as ("Pretty Boy") Cho Tae-sang. Really good performance that walked the line in terms of story. Could easily have veered into off-putting territory. I won't spoil what happened, but there were layers to what he had to do to get the character to work, and he managed to hit all of them.
Kim Jae-wook as ("Creepy Painter") Jeong Gyu-cheol. Another actor that's just fun to watch. His character was terrible, but I couldn't take my eyes off him.
Kim Ji-hoon as ("The Worst CEO") Park Tae-woo. Very effective and menacing. The fact that I was actively rooting for the creepy serial killer, instead of the CEO, shows what a good actor he was. I feel like the writers could have made him a little less "mustache twirling evil", or else played up how he was evil as a businessman in addition to being a mass-murderer, but you can't have everything.
Everyone else. The teenage bullies did a good job. The Evil Parents of an Infant were very effective and I pray their agents got them another role ASAP so people can forget they did this. All the other side characters and minor roles were good. Basically, good casting + good acting across the board.
TL; DR:
Grimdark to its core. The acting overall was great and there are some hidden depths as far as the writing goes. Not a perfect show, but definitely give it a try if you find the premise even a little interesting.
