(Reposting so I can link it in my pinned post)
well it looks like a couple people are are interested in podcast recommendations so:
im going to recommend Leaving Corvat first because i haven’t seen anyone talk about it and it deserves more hype.

podcasts.apple.com
I’m not really that great at describing shows so heres a description from the website (which is now shut down and idk if they have another one):
“Sleeper lived in the same town all his life, and worked the same brain dead job at the same fast food place. Until today. Today, he leaves Corvat. But the farther he travels, the more bizarre the world around him becomes.”
Sleeper encounters lots of eerie people and places as well as mysteries as he travels farther from Corvat. I caught up a while ago and am waiting for the next season, but i remember liking the suspense, soundscaping, and the plot a lot. Each episode is so interesting and well written, I highly recommend it! Seriously you guys I am not doing this show justice especially the plot please go listen and tell me what you think about it!!!!
go check it out yall. Heres the trailer

Hi friend! I’m looking for some podcast rec’s that are similar to Mabel. Ideally wlw, completely unhinged, and requires intense mental effort to understand. Have a wonderful day and tysm!
hello !! sorry for the time I took to answer this ask ♡ I have a few ideas but truly, Mabel is truly a one-of-a-kind kind of show so I hope my recommendations will live up to it
Unwell : A Midwestern Gothic Mystery - I keep recommending it, it's a wonderful show, to be fair the relationship isn't the main focus of the story but I do still believe you'll find this enjoyable

When Angels Visit Armadillo - okay this one is way more chill than mabel could ever be, not exactly the same idea but wlw and I think you could get a kick from listening to it

Alice isn't dead - you probably already know this one, it's a classic but it's great, very lesbiany, very well made, definitely not as unhinged as Mabel but the vibe is worth it

Within the wires - well known as well, not exclusively wlw but there's some of it, it does require mental gymnastics though it is not completely unhinged, I truly love it and think you could enjoy it as well

SPINES podcast - if I remember well SPINES is wlnb and not wlw but the vibe does fit imo

BONUS : shows I think you may potentially enjoy despite not being like Mabel in any way
Delivery -

Leaving Corvat -

SINKHOLE -

Forest 404 -

sorry if these are already quite well known, I've been trying for a while to find shows similar to Mabel and it's way harder than it seems :((

hello I have a couple of podcasts to recommend!!! (Also I listened to Jar of Rebuke after seeing you recommend it and I love it so thank you!)
I think these are all super underrated so I’m gonna save myself the trouble and repetition by saying that now lol
also this is a very brief description of show, definitely check them out for a better idea of what they’re about :)
The Strange Case of Starship Iris
Starship Iris is a sci-fi and adventure podcast following the crew of said ship as they travel through space and encounter dangerous situations. It’s funny, the characters are unique, and there is lots of queer rep!
Spirit Box Radio
Spirit Box Radio is so good! The plot is so interesting and unique. It follows Sam, who takes over his (technically) mother’s radio show after she goes missing and learns more about his mysterious past and magic. The show has lots of witchy, arcane magic elements and queer characters. It’s also by the person who made Not Quite Dead
Death By Dying
Death by Dying is a very funny and spooky podcast with lots of great characters and mysterious happenings, following the local obituary writer slash self appointed town detective as he solves the town’s mysteries and the mysterious deaths.
WitherBurn After School News
This one is styles more realistic and is in a local radio broadcast format about the news in the town of WitherBurn. There is lots of mystery and follows the anonymous reporter on her radio show as she tries to find out what’s really happening to all the so-called teen run aways, dealing with a corrupt police department and reporting on the normal town news.
Leaving Corvat
I finished Leaving Corvat a while ago and am waiting on the next season so I don’t entirely remember the plot of season one, but it’s a very creative show with an interesting plot about Sleeper as he tries to escape his town and escape encounters strange situations and people on his journey.
definitely check these out, they’re all super good!
(also I didn’t know where to slot this in at the beginning but I love the public fiction podcast list you posted at the beginning, it’s helped me find so many shows!)
Hello! And thank you for sending in your show recs!
I'm so glad you picked up Jar of Rebuke, it's one of my favorites and it makes me really happy that someone gave it a try because of me.
I'm also glad that the public fiction podcast list is helping people, even if some maintenance is much needed for it. (I really want to start working on this blog again but burnout and time management are my worst enemies lol )

I’m terribly inconsistent with audio drama sunday but there are so many stand-out eps this week that i HAVE to
@eelerschoice holy HECK, what a fantastic move with a blind protagonist, taking it as an opportunity to describe the world. Malevolent does it, but i think i like the way eeler’s choice does it better. Wonderful.
My beloved Steeplechase ended this week, and what a good ending. Endings are hard, and I know Justin wasn’t super thrilled about DMing, but he did such a fantastic job. I love these old man criminals so much. If you’re looking for Balance from the adventure zone, i’m not sure that’ll ever be recaptured, but if you want a good story, please listen to Steeplechase.
I am OBSESSED with the @kingmakerpod’s synechdekey (sp? i know it’s a synecdoche reference). What a fantastic plot device. This week’s ep was, as always, lovely and hilarious.
Forgive Me! was incredible. Yeah Father Ben, you punch out that scumbag misogynist. I’m so…proud of him? Yeah, proud of him.
I have a weird relationship with Leaving Corvat, because I like it, but it’s really clear to me that it’s American horror written by a European. It maybe actually adds to the horror, because everything feels very slightly…off? You know? However, this week’s episode had me feeling for Sleeper like I never have before, like he actually wants to be a good person, and suddenly I’m much more invested in his double who is married and expecting a kid. It took a very cool turn.
I’ve been catching up with four podcasts at once, as is my wont, and I just finished up Madame Magenta: Sonos Mystica. I. Love her. She’s so good. I can’t wait to start Madame Magenta Presents.
I’ve also been listening through Fall of the House of Sunshine, and if you told me which characters would survive to season three, I don’t think i would have believed you. A dozen of the songs of this show are ending up on my spotify playlists. They’re just so. So! You know? I’m on 3.8 and I’m wondering when the next cringy gross song will happen. We’ve had too many heartfelt ones lately. This is the one i keep thinking about this week:
I also just started Gastronaut! And i didn’t know what I was expecting, but I think I’m in love? More on that another day, I expect.
For personal news, I am hype for the last few weeks of Re: Dracula, especially with the miniseries we’re planning soon. We’re halfway through recording season five of Inn Between, with recording on hold for a bit while I sort job stuff. Gotta make sure you can pay people. I’m also HYPE OUT OF MY MIND for the premier of The Dead, a zombie project I’ve been working on with Bloody FM that premiers on Halloween. Keep an eye out, i’m going to show it off all over.
Speaking of job stuff, I’m currently trying to make rent before i get my first paycheck from my new job! If you liked this or like the other things I do, i’d really appreciate a stop by my ko-fi. Get a sticker while you’re there!
Until next week!

Oh, god damn.
Very vague Leaving Corvat spoilers ahead.
I absolutely, 100%, believe and will die on the hill that this whole podcast is Sleeper just using maladaptive daydreaming to cope with his day to day, crappy job, and his friend leaving. (& him not going after her. Or… maybe she didn’t leave and he just regrets not telling her how he feels?)
So, we’re having this super fantastical adventure; so much conflict and drama and danger—
— punctuated by the beeps of the sleeper station throughout.
If I’m wrong I’m wrong, and tbh it’s a very distinct possibility, but listen to the show with that in mind, and tell me it doesn’t fit perfectly.

Wonderful!! For the ars paradoxica route, I recommend SCP: Find Us Alive. It's one of the most similar in regards to vibe and listening experience that I've listened to yet. It's the longest ever yet, but there's still a decent amount out so far. I also recommend woe.begone, as they've also got complex time travel shenanigans and there's so much of it. It's also high quality and really well put together, like SCP: Find Us Alive and ars Paradoxica. If you listen to Woe.Begone and really like it, let me know because I have a whole section of recs that I think you'll enjoy.
From w359, I highly recommend Midnight Burger. In the way that w359 has hope and togetherness in its message, Midnight Burger does as well. There's also soooo much of it, and it is very well done. They do a really good job of balancing the humor, character relationships, and growth in a similar way to w359. If you like this one too and want more, I do have some shorter podcasts as well.
You would probably also like The Pasithea Powder. It's a scifi space post war one, that deals with the complicated politics that follow, and trying to handle relationships and life in the aftermath. It's got lots of brain stuff to work out like ars Paradoxica. It's also now complete, so you've got the whole story already.
From TAZ, I recommend both Rusty Quill Gaming and Dungeons and Daddies. Rusty Quill Gaming is very very good, though it takes a bit to get into. It is the absolute longest podcast I have ever listened to, and the character development has been haunting me on the regular for two years now /pos. I have yearly relistens of both TAZ Balance and RQG for a reason. If you start it and feel like it's too serious, it is a bit at first, but they do get very silly. If you do want to go the more silly route though, definitely listen to dndaddies. It is extremely silly throughout the entire podcast, and they are now getting into their third campaign. It has the most similar listening experience to TAZ that I have found yet.
I haven't listened to tsv yet BUT it is high on my list! Also, if you are interested in some shorter listens, I've got some more niche ones for you. And do let me know about the whole w.bg route, bc I can tell you more about Alice Isn't Dead, Mabel, Leaving Corvat, and others
Hi hello I have so many podcast recs. What are looking for (genre, length, story structure, examples of other ones, etc)?
ok heres a quick list of my top favs
wolf 359
taz
the silt verses
ars paradoxica
generally i prefer sci fi, longer stories are better. im pretty genre agnostic, as long as it's got good characters. the more complex the story/lore the better, as you can tell from me loving ars paradoxica
