a different type of affection | a. miya
throughout your relationship, there were times where atsumu had questioned your love for him.
your expressions seemed almost… ‘smaller’ than his. your words lacked the sweet sayings that his sentences would often have.
the way you’d glare at him whenever he did something annoying, (did you not find it funny? he only meant well..)
the amount of times you’d tell him to get off of you whenever he would be drenched with sweat after practices, (when all he wanted to do was hug you after a long day!)
or the fact that you get too hot when cuddling and eventually let go of him, (is it so much of a hassle to stay in his hold?)
but the more that atsumu stuck around, the more that he had noticed the details.
the quiet chuckle and relieved smile that you’d silently give after staring at him—indicating that whatever ridiculous thing he did was the first thing to leave a positive impression on your tiresome day.
the way that, even with the amount of times you’ve complained about him being ‘dirty’, you were always the first one to throw yourself onto his sweaty figure after every game, hugging him regardless of if he had won or not.
the light kiss that you’d plant on his forehead whenever you left his hold, purposely not putting too much pressure so as to not wake him—and how you’d slightly panic when he’d grumble to himself even just a little bit.
and if anyone were to tell him that there would be so much more realizations about you and your ways of showing love, he would’ve felt like less of an idiot in the long run.
so much things became clearer to him.
the way his baby picture was the main picture in your wallet.
the way your onigiri started to ‘coincidentally’ taste exactly how osamu’s did—just how atsumu liked it.
the way his favourite toothpaste suddenly became your toothpaste after he once commented how he didn’t like the taste of your old one.
the way how, when once passing by a room in your house, the sound effects of the video game he had excitedly introduced to you was suddenly being heard, despite the fact that you both had to stop playing the other day because of how bad you were.
and how you were oddly decent at it the next day when you told him you wanted to “try playing a second time”.
honestly? this wasn’t even the whole of it. not even close.
if there was ever something atsumu regretted within the course of your relationship, it was the fact that he was once in the belief that it was solely him ‘putting the effort’.
there was never a need to question your love.
not at all, not ever.
and atsumu made it an everyday vow to make sure you would never doubt, either.
— “i love you.”
“eh?”
“what? i love you.”
“that was random.”
“can’t i profess my love?”
“we’re quite literally in an insurance office…?”
“so?”
“…”
“i love you too.”
made this in honour of the fl’s whose display of love is never talked abt by the fandom bc the ml overshadows them 🙏🏽
guys are u tired of me making atsumu imagines yes or no (don’t say yes pleas)
I WANNA WRITE FOR A DIFFERENT CHARACTER SOON💔.. after exams guys trust.

While I enjoy The Owl House for its captivating plot, fascinating characters, accurate and respectful representation of the LGBTQIA+ community, and strong character development, I find that the ending leaves something to be desired. Specifically, I would like to address Belos’ death. His character is fascinating, complex, and significant to the narrative, so I feel that, although he obviously deserved to face the consequences of his actions, his death should have been treated with more gravity and significance rather than mockery.
To me, Belos has always been an example of a well-crafted, complex villain, marked by internal conflicts, fears masked by a stern façade, regrets, and a flawed worldview. His delusional belief that his monstrous actions serve a noble purpose sets him apart from the typical villain, whose sole motivation is an insatiable desire for power and chaos.
Even the smallest glimpses into Belos' backstory reveal his complexity, making him… painfully human despite his desperate attempts to project an image of divinity and power. While his actions are undeniably inhumane — marked by obsession and unwarranted hatred toward witches — his backstory exposes a vulnerable, sobbing child, and a young man consumed by envy and fear of abandonment by his brother. This perspective shifts him from a mere cruel Emperor driven by a thirst for power, to a mere human full of insecurities.
While Belos’ past doesn't excuse his horrific actions, it sheds light on his motivations and twisted worldview, which would remain opaque without this context. Exploring more of his backstory would allow us to uncover vital details about the way his past influenced his future life, his mission to spread the “Titan’s Will” across the Boiling Isles, and so much more.
If only Belos’ vulnerable, human side had been explored more deeply, we could have seen the stark contrast between his imposing exterior and his inner loneliness and misery in more detail. This exploration would suggest that his public persona wasn’t just manipulation to gain the witches’ trust, but also the act of self-deception in an attempt to convince himself that his actions were for the greater good, while also trying to fill the void within him.
This being said, the scene of Belos’ death was quite the opposite, as it was treated as nothing more than a comic relief, completely undermining his character journey. After his entire body melted, he was casually stepped on by Luz and her friends, which felt jarring given the weight of his character, and was simply unnecessary. I believe that even if Belos’ death stayed the exact same, but the last part was removed, it would’ve been so much more tolerable.

It never fails to amaze me how much El is compared to Will throughout the show in general and how it affects both these characters’ relationships with Mike specifically. Here’s some thoughts as I wait for the new year:
Similar characteristics, both outside and behaviour-like, aside (saviour complex, immense trauma, tons of guilt, being deemed different and a freak and feeling like a mistake because of it, hell even their connection to the upside down etc) the duffers have never shied away from openly comparing them.
Even from episode one, ever since Will goes missing, whenever Hopper is searching for Will, he’s actually following El around. We see some guy at the police department reporting El as strange activity, thinking she was a boy and specifically Will. Now El’s general outlook in season 1 resembles a boy (Brenner, you tasteless son of a bitch) and that’s definitely an interesting choice concerning the person who ends up taking a liking towards El.
That’s right, Mike. Mike who is constantly looking for Will ever since he went missing and meets El because of it, who keeps El around in hopes she can help them find him(at first at least), whose breakdown we focus on the most, who goes against every logical explanation and even a seemingly dead body of his said-friend to prove to everyone else that Will is indeed still alive and needs their help. Mike who has never left Will’s side ever since kindergarten and who puts protecting his friends and Will specifically above all else. Mike, who Lucas claims hasn’t had any sort of meaningful relationship with girls because they are grossed out by him and who is the only one that defends Will against Troy’s homophobic comments actively and physically. Seeing a pattern yet?
And because life is funny like that (duffers I am watching you) Mike’s first words to El are and I quote: “That’s not Will”
Taking into account that later on, El and Will end up becoming literally family, their similarities cannot be denied. That being said, let’s focus on El’s and Will’s relationship with Mike.
First things first, let’s face a truth. Mike had never had to deal with both Will and El and the feelings that are associated with each person at the same time up until the very end of season 2(I would say season 3 but okay). And why is that important, you may ask? Well, because in each season we can clearly see his priorities and how they affect his behaviour.
In season 1, in the absence of Will, Mike never stopped looking for his friend, constantly coming up with ways to help Will directly (searching in the woods with Dustin and Lucas) or indirectly (using El to try and contact him). His first and foremost concern and sole purpose is finding Will and making sure he’s safe. No easy task, as it turned out. Meanwhile his behaviour towards El differs and is based (on some level) on her growing importance in finding Will. Of course, there is genuine affection as well and it’s obvious by the end of the season that Mike cares a whole deal about El.
Now there is an interesting shift in season 2. Although we see how much Mike is affected by El’s absence and we see Mike still seeking her out through the walkie talkie, he never actually actively looks for her, even though he isn’t convinced of her “death”. Again Mike focuses on Will as he struggles through his newfound connection to the upside down and later on his possession, without ever leaving his side, even if he was scared and/or in danger. Once again he takes on the role of Will’s protector and exceeds in it (if I may say so). Those days he’s being very affectionate and vulnerable towards Will and he isn’t afraid to open up and talk about his feelings and issues (one of them being El’s absence, mind you).
The tables are turned in season 3 where for the first time Mike has to “choose” between Will and El in a way. As we see from early on, the friend group has complicated feelings towards Mike’s and El’s relationship and they especially have a lot to say about how Mike’s attention is focused for the first time mainly on El, causing conflict between the friends (“it’s romantic” “it’s gross” “it’s bullshit”). Meanwhile, Mike is ignoring his other friends, especially Will, running late for dates and refusing to play dnd. He is particularly hurting Will (“it’s not my fault you don’t like girls” ouch) who is trying to come to terms with his stolen childhood and the fact that everyone around him seems to have moved on. We notice a more angry and regretful version of Mike, one that stumbles over his words and says the wrong thing at the wrong time. He goes on his own personal arc from the start of season 3 (I think), one filled with guilt and shame that has yet to be resolved (I think).
The important thing is that in both seasons 3 and 4, Mike struggles in prioritising his relationships and can’t seem to choose between his best friend and his girlfriend. In season 4, we get a grande display of miscommunication between the happy couple and once El has gone to retrieve her powers, Mike once again confines in Will and restores their bond(not to its full potential but we are getting there, trust). Mike doesn’t seem to even be able to spell the word “love”, let alone communicate it to El when she needs it the most (although he doesn’t seem to struggle opening up to Will, just saying). El is Mike’s proclaimed superMAN, so I am just gonna leave it at that note.
In conclusion, Mike’s got a hell of a challenge as the heart of the group and he’s gotta accept what his own heart tells him, whatever that is.
Will and El, no matter their similarities, are not the same but they deserve the absolute best nonetheless. Best badass sibling duo EVER.
-
Happy new year, everyone! Best wishes to all<3

Justice for Raphael
I'm very new to Tumblr, I created an account here a few months ago after I discovered all the amazing Bg3-related art content that this place has to offer. Since then, I've never posted a single thing and barely left any comments, I'm not a very social person...but today I was scrolling my favorite bg3-related feed, when I stumbled upon a post of someone who received a rather rude ask from an anon whose sole purpose was to mock their works and insult their (possibly) favorite character Raphael, who was referred to by that anon as a "100% canon two pump chump bottom cringe clown".
It is saddening to get yet another confirmation that some people out there aren't capable of respecting others' likes, not even in a fictional/virtual environment...but I guess that's to be expected. Besides the obvious, what made me decide to write this wall of text as my very first post is that Raphael happens to be my favorite too, the one and only fictional character I've ever felt invested in, and probably the reason why Bg3 will leave a life-long lasting impression on me.
So here I am, trying my best to point out some facts that (apparently) are easy to go amiss for some people out here: First of all, there's nothing canon regarding what Haarlep says of Raphael, as a character's opinion about another isn't a fact to begin with. Especially if said character is (proved by facts) very unreliable as a source: him being an incubus whose standards are undoubtedly different from any mortals' and the fact that he hates Raphael are but the most obvious. Not to mention that "Speak with the dead" isn't 100% reliable either by D&D 5e rules ("the corpse is under no compulsion to offer a truthful answer if you are hostile to it or it recognizes you as an enemy"). Besides that, even if everything Haarlep says is to be considered true, the mocking words the players can say to Raphael before the fight are NOT, as Haarlep never gives such info to the player (he only responds with a "no" if asked about the matter). That line we can say before the fight is but the player's guess/ childish mockery, certainly it's not a fact.
From a purely objective perspective, the only info Haarlep gives to the player that isn't merely his opinion is Raphael's obvious selfishness and narcissism (the HoH is covered with images of him) and the fact that he likely only sleeps with himself (he has his incubus wearing his shape, even his name). By no means does that make Raphael a "cringe clown", nor would it even in the case where Haarlep spoke entirely the truth. Honestly, it never ceases to baffle me how some people can be so shortsighted and shallow. But perhaps those people are yet to grow up and come to learn that there can be much hidden beneath someone's (fictional or not) behavior. There's nothing to mock about the "Raphael only wants to sleep with himself and only loves himself" statement.
How could it be otherwise? How, when the only person who ever loved Raphael, the only one he could trust and rely on since his birth, was himself? How could he crave someone's affection and so, be seen as weak? How could he care for another or their feelings when he never got that care or respect, to begin with? Despite his theatrics and his facade, Raphael was born Cambion, a half-breed never to be considered more than the lesser of the devils in the hierarchy of the Hells. Cambions cannot rank up, no matter their blood ties, yet Raphael managed to achieve all that he has...his palace, his many souls, and his power. None of that was gifted to him, he fought hard and earned every last bit of it with his claws, his wits, and his determination. I admire Raphael for that, for striving to become something greater than what he was supposed to be...something better than his father's "half-devil" son.
To reduce Raphael, who's most certainly one of the deepest and most complex characters we can encounter in the game, to a "100% canon two pump chump bottom cringe clown" is beyond low, very immature, and a rather shallow view, more so if it comes from someone who hasn't even had the guts to show their name...
Well, that's all. I doubt someone will make it this far, as I wrote a veeeeery long paragraph. But for once, I wanted to have my say ^^

yj season 3 spoilers
honestly i’m going to be so real.. as captivated as i am by the season 1-2 character dynamics, i wish i hadn’t watched season 3 of yellowjackets. it just didn’t feel faithful to my image of the show, which is okay that doesn’t make it bad in itself. that being said, i’ve waited until the finale to talk about this because i didn’t want to get ahead of myself. if you’re mutuals of mine who are also fans of the show, i hope you won’t unfollow or anything even if you did really like this season! i’m more rambling about some frustrations. there are plenty of things to like, just not enough for me in comparison to previous seasons which were just fantastic in my opinion.
i don’t know to the fullest extent why but everything in this season has just felt very anticlimactic for me. the adult timeline feels like it’s inconsistently oscillating from drama to comedy rather than a cohesive synthesis of the two. i think what’s kept me into it (and keep in mind i’ve never been one of those “skip the adult timeline” people in any of the seasons. it’s just this one) is that the actors are phenomenal at working with what they’re given.
tai’s character has become so flat for me despite the fact that they are exploring darker tai to such a large extent. it’s like they tore away all of her ambition once van returned to the picture. no desire to be in government anymore. they just glossed over the fact that she crashed her car and put her wife into a coma… traumatized her son.. and they only have them play little bit roles in this season? tai is not the type of person to just jump ship and act like her family doesn’t exist. at least in my mind. it feels like such a massive disservice. she was such an intriguing character when she had to balance her life as a politician, a black, openly lesbian one at that, who has this deep seated trauma that is tormenting her and keeping her awake. why is it that she, as an incredibly powerful character, specifically one of the few black characters on the show, diminished to “van’s girlfriend”?
lottie’s death just felt so random. i honestly am not unconvinced that the writers just didn’t know what to do with her character. also, what happened with lisa? it would have been so cool to see lottie trying to hold herself accountable, not just for trying to kill shauna again in their adult lives, but for exploiting vulnerable people as a cult leader when she knows how it feels to be vulnerable. why couldn’t they have given her a greater purpose involving repentance for all of those she’s hurt as a hurt person herself? this could’ve even tied in earlier laura lee visions. despite loving her character, i felt nothing at her death scene, knowing it was coming, and knowing simone kessel herself has qualms with how her character left the show.
melissa being the one to survive all of this is just laughable. i liked her character quite a lot in the younger timeline this season, yet it reads as a writing decision made solely for the sake of having her be a survivor as hillary swank. love her, but why couldn’t it have been mari or akilah, whose characters have been continually developed, who are also poc by the way, and who provide such unique roles in the group? why why why did you have shauna take mari’s hair? it feels tone deaf. the entire thing seems like it’s meant to be dehumanizing to show shauna’s devolution, but it honestly just leaves a bad taste in my mouth that the victim is mari specifically. she strips her and drags her across the ground. compare that even to javi’s death.. the humiliation is far worse.
skipping the cabin fire with a time-jump to them having these ornate natural shelters they’ve created.. almost broke the immersion for me off the bat. plus, the goats and pet rabbits (that are easily distinguishable from wild rabbits) also just made me confused. wouldn’t it have made more sense to corral deer and cgi in some hares or wild rabbits or something?
this next part is much more subjective and personal, so take it with a grain of salt. i’m not saying this is indicative of bad writing..
i’m glad to have jackieshauna confirmed in some ways, those ways mostly being a “stick it” to the people who claimed that anyone who ships it is just trying to make everything gay and there is no such thing as queer subtext blah blah blah. on the other hand, i don’t feel like it was done the way i would have liked it. i think part of the appeal was also the fact that their visible love (and yes season one really spells it out for most people who can read a glance even slightly) felt so untouchable, like it was just for them despite being written on their faces. it felt like it was something shauna had to mourn subconsciously along with jackie’s death itself because of all the things left unsaid. i think the tragedy of that remaining the case added to the appeal of the pairing. maybe this part is a bit ridiculous. it just came off as fan service. i don’t think many people complain about their “ship” being confirmed in canon, but i just wanted to express some of my lingering feelings.
sorry for the disjointedness of this post! anyways, i’ll still be interacting with plenty of yellowjackets content. i love the characters still, and the remaining cast.

december devlog!!!
the devlog can be found here!!
look at themmm!!! cutie pies!! this has instantly made its way to be one of my favorite pictures of them!! 🥺
the background here is so so pretty!! if it weren’t for the red leaves on the ground and the broken path, i would’ve thought they were in the real world!! idk, maybe they are… maybe it’s like minecraft? lol. i believe this is the tower we saw in the previous devlogs/progress reports, maybe the one with the unreachable stairs, but definitely the one with the handsome fellow:
no andrew to be seen in these pictures, but he’s around somehwere. doing… stuff?
next, nemlei describes the process of creating tcoaal!! copied and pasted:
For a few years before The Coffin of Andy and Leyley, I had been dabbling in making visual novels as a hobby by entering visual novel jams. These were month long jams with no specific goals other than to create a visual novel from start to finish. I entered maybe once a year for... uhhh?? four years? I don't remember, and you don't care. My point here is that it was enough so that I noticed a pattern...
If a jam allowed additional gameplay in the visual novel, the entries utilizing it were often among the most played ones. "Huh." thought little ol' me, and schemed a wicked scheme. The next jam that came around (and I had time to enter) was Nanoreno, and time had come to test my hypothesis.
I only had a month, so I knew from the start the story had to be a "bottle episode", as in the whole story must be contained within one location to save time, and limit how much art I needed to make.
So who were the characters, why were they there, and why wouldn't they switch locations? The easiest answer was the classic "they're locked in and must escape" which is a story everyone and their dog has written at some point. Whatever, it's just a game jam I thought, and carried on.
Then came the characters, at first Ashley was going to be a silent protagonist named Player (yeah, you read that right). I wanted to toy with the idea that players tend to do the most unhinged things when allowed. So there'd be the Player, and one support character whose sole purpose was to spout exposition, and react to the player doing player things. Oh, the humor that would ensue.
There is one small remnant of this idea still in the game. It's at the very beginning when the player wakes Andrew up. He explains something, and "Player" responds with an emoji bubble thing, and Andrew then says "Quit your complaining!" despite the fact that Ashley hadn't really complained out loud. Now, imagine if the entire game was like this........... It would've sucked so bad. I dropped the concept pretty much right away.
This original concept is also why the narrator addresses "you" (the Player), instead of being in pure third person or first person point of view. I did enjoy this game master type format though, so even after making Ashley an actual character, I kept it.
Since Ashley was now a character, she needed to have a story. Cue the whole childhood incident (again, generic, but whatever it's a game jam). This also elevated Andrew to a character status, rather than a mere exposition spouter. Great! Now I knew who they were, and had a story to tell other than "unhinged room escape". (Which is a game I'd still want to play, as long as it isn't made by me.)
This is the first ever sketch I made of the two. Almost final design straight out the bag lol.
This was me still figuring out the UI. I don't remember what was the idea behind having the names off to the side, but thankfully I decided against it.
I drafted rather lengthy character sheets for the duo, as the more I wrote, the more they revealed themselves to be curious little jerks, with a lot going on between them. The story formed almost on its own after that. I knew I couldn't go too in-depth though, as the game jam imposed a hard time limit. So I shelved most of it thinking "well maybe I'll tell this story later on my own time", and left a sequel bait at the end of the story, to give myself an opening to get back to it "one day" that I assumed would never come. And also to give myself time to see if there really even was an interesting story to tell, or if this was one of those "really cool idea!!!"s that emerge out of the blue, but rot away as soon as you sit down to write them. If you're a fellow storyteller, you know what I'm talking about.
Leaving an "in" to continue later is something I've done plenty before. I might very well get back to my other game jam novels one day, which is part of the reason I took them down. For now though, there is no room for such endeavors, as The Coffin of Andy and Leyley must be completed, and will remain the sole priority until then.
Back to my "visual novels with gameplay perform better than pure visual novels" -hypothesis! I entered the game jam with my corny-ass bottle episode organ harvesting edgelord romp, and lo' and behold!!
It did gain more attraction than my other (gameplay-less) visual novels! In fact, it gains enough momentum to leave the visual novel scene. The new influx of people turns my data useless, and the hypothesis goes out the window. So in the end, was it the gameplay that attracted people? Or was it purely the oh, so scandalously unhealthy relationship the duo has? You tell me.
Somehow the game got caught in a shitflinging contest between the self-appointed morality police, and the people sick and tired of being told what kind of fiction they're allowed to read.
Suddenly, life gave me two choices, much like a visual novel would.
Do I take the game down to appease the people telling me to kill myself?
Or do I create the story I already wanted to create and get paid for it?
Boy oh boy, what a dilemma. I contemplated it for all of two nano seconds!
I dug out all the stuff I had shelved, and soon had the draft of the full story all ready to go. I went over it a few times, deemed it to be a lot of fun, and begun production of the full game. Episode 2 released on Steam in October 2023, and The Coffin of Andy and Leyley wrecked havoc across social media! And I thought there was a shitstorm before? HAHAHHAHAHA!!!!
And here we are now.
I want to thank you, my dear audience, for all your support. And I also want to thank the people who tirelessly pissed and moaned about some crappy indie game for months and months and months, helping it gain popularity beyond my comprehension. I would've never, ever gotten this far if it wasn't for you! The kinder thanks goes to the audience though, obviously. Thank you for weathering the storm with me, I hope you'll like the terrible little story you've helped to subsist.
The development continues, unchanged. I can't wait to show you the next episode. It's just awful, I really like it! Hope you will too.
Have a wonderful end of the year,
- The Author of The Coffin of Andy and Leyley, Your Least Favorite Person.

“Did you hear about that mother broke her daughter's legs in two?”
Do you want me to tell you a secret? Just don’t tell anyone. Actually, you know what? Go ahead and tell everyone, let them all hear and know!
Parallels between Ryunosuke Akutagawa (from the BEAST universe) and Oda Sakunosuke. Or yet another divide between two identical situations.
To all fans, Oda Sakunosuke is seen as a kind, understanding character who wants to protect and take care of orphans. He is the “mafia member who doesn’t kill” (remember this phrase—I’ll remind you later who it was originally used for). Of course, a series of unfortunate events led to his friend being murdered, and the children he cherished being kidnapped and killed as well. He goes to avenge them and dies a “noble” death, leaving Osamu behind.
Undoubtedly, who even cares that Osamu, his feelings, and the fact that Oda was the most important figure in his life—the only friend he had—are now solely his problem?
But listen carefully, ladies and gentlemen.
There’s also Ryunosuke Akutagawa, who left his injured (but not fatally wounded) little sister behind to avenge the children he saw as his family, whom he also cared about and deeply worried for, whom he tried but failed to protect, whose deaths he witnessed in the most unjust ways. They froze in his arms, starved to death. And he decided to avenge them—because in their world, it was customary to seek vengeance for one another. He was consumed by emotion; he felt truly alive. Because his blood was boiling from the cruelty and injustice of the world, from his fate, and the fate of those children. He could have died right then and there, but miraculously survived.
And even then, he was robbed of the last and most precious thing he had—his younger sister. He was left completely alone. And throughout the entire manga, people constantly remind him that it was his fault she was left behind, that he abandoned her, that he was blinded by revenge and didn’t think about what would happen to her. That he didn’t worry or care about her for all 4.5 years (even though that was the entire purpose of those 4.5 years). That he never even tried to find her. They break him mentally, torment him, set him up to fail, literally crush him, yet he still keeps going. And then, in one of the most devastating moments—not even in the manga, but in the movie—she finally appears before him. He can finally see her in person. And she plunges a knife into his stomach before immediately leaving, making his situation even more miserable.
In the main manga, it is Ryunosuke whom Osamu refers to as “the mafia member who doesn’t kill.” But, ladies and gentlemen, let’s be objective. Oda Sakunosuke was never truly a hero. And he didn’t even die avenging those children’s honor. He wanted to make a grand exit, but did he really? He abandoned everything, gave in to his emotions, left behind all that was still alive, left those who needed him, and those who he needed. And yet this man is remembered fondly by fans? This irresponsible, reckless, problem-escaping man is seen as good? Meanwhile, a young boy, experiencing emotions he had never even known before, dared to take a risk—and everyone shoved obstacles in his way. They even managed to drill into his head that he was a monster, undeserving of companionship, born evil.
Compare a fully grown, developed man to a miserable little boy with a shattered psyche and no childhood. Even then, Akutagawa’s actions are far more justifiable than Oda’s.
And yet, Oda Sakunosuke is seen as a wonderful parental figure, despite the fact that even his orphans called him “big brother.” To Dazai, he was never a father figure, but rather a true best friend.
But was he really such a good person? Or just a spineless coward who dumped his responsibilities onto others?

IMO the biggest sign of the shittiness of Miquella's writing is the fact that his actions between the Caelid War and Mohg's death are so inconsistent and unexplained that half of the "lore fandom" still believes he's a selfish power-hungry godhood seeker even though he explicitly has to abandon his fears and doubts to go on that path, his own mind describes godhood as eternal torment, Ymir and Trina both describe him as making a terrible sacrifice out of guilt, and he sounds absolutely terrified of his inevitable godhood in the final cutscene where he's kneeling in resignation (literally stuttering and baby-talking in Japanese and sounding like he's going to cry in the English voice acting). There are three entire characters who exist for the near sole purpose of saying "Miquella really doesn't want to do this but is resigned to having to to atone for his mother, making a noble but misguided sacrifice" and it still didn't drown out the obvious questions like "wait so what was the vow?", "what was the timeline and reasoning for Mohg's kidnapping, and was that his or Mohg's idea?", and "why didn't he tell his sister and her army anything and leave them to rot in a dead tree and blow themselves up?". One of the most popular interpretations is that he really really just wanted Radahn's bussy (probably because "Radahn is my consort" is literally all he says when he's actually on-screen).
Honestly people praising Miquella's writing in the DLC (especially anything having to do with Mohg and Radahn) feels like gaslighting. This is easily noticeable when you notice that the people praising its "brilliance" have completely contradictory ideas of what actually happened or what the story was trying to say. I've heard everything from "Miquella is tragically noble but misguided" to "Miquella is mentally handicapped" to "Miquella is a victim of fate who is cursed to fail no matter what he does" to "Miquella was an evil scheming mastermind whose nobility was a carefully crafted facade" to "Miquella is a dumb, impulsive, spoiled little brat and cautionary tale against nepo babies", and all of these are supposed to be Genius Writing[TM] despite all these directions being so underbaked that people can think his story is literally the opposite of any of the above…
it also killed the fan interpretation. i used to really really like the idea of it being a misunderstanding where mohg kidnaps miquella for his own dynasty and malenia attacks caelid thinking he stole miquella and you cant even argue that i just "wanted my own au to be canon" no. i just wanted it to make sense 🙏
also the "character existing for the sole purpose of X" in the case with the DLC being just to say something about miquella is so fucking dumb. i get fromsoftware never had very in depth characters but its getting far too obvious to the point its comical;
SOTE also does screw up the entire timeline because the writers didn't know their own lore as proven by me many times on this trashy account whoops
also I agree on the "glazing miquellas writing" part because if you can take so many directions with a character that contradict each other, thats not even interpretion anymore that's straight up having your fans make the character for you 😭
getting a monthly anon rant is always a good thing. sorry if this post is as underbaked as sote's writing its the middle of the night cause my insomnia is always awake

Ozaki Kōyō — Bungo Stray Dogs Analysis?
Kōyō appears as an incredibly graceful, mature and elegant character who holds herself with dignity and stateliness. With her persuasive speech, she frequently regards people and their personal growth through life identical to flowers.
The major stages of the flower life cycle are the seed, germination, growth, reproduction, pollination, and seed spreading stages, when the seed has everything that it needs to live it will 'wake up' and sprout, or germinate. Germination is the process by which a plant grows from a seed into a seedling. All seeds need water, oxygen and optimal temperature to germinate.
Ultimately a flower only has one purpose, which is to bloom, even when snipped or picked off it only encourages more flowers, the plant will continue to form flowering growth and keep on blooming till it reaches its demise. They simply follow their genetic coding and behave as how the DNA dictates them to respond in said environment.
Comparable to a child, when a seed is exposed to the proper conditions, water and oxygen, it has the ability and chance to grow in the most ideal way, the outcome being a beautiful variety of hardship, cohesion and completeness.
For all that, Kōyō believes that some are meant to be born in darkness and some are destined to wilt in time, which reflects her jaded and dulled view against things like hope and love.
[“Why do flowers bloom knowing they are destined to wither? Their time of beauty is so short-lived.“] — Merlina the Wizard; Sonic and the Black Knight 2009.
When she was young, she tried to leave the Mafia together with a man whom she „admired.“
Nevertheless, they both were caught and the man was killed. Kōyō’s love was shattered and turned into an indescribable, one-sided sadness and sorrow. Since then, she has held a bitter resentment, but only against the Mafia’s former leader who did those heinous acts. Filled with bitterness and despair she devotes her life to the Mafia, which gradually turns her into a ruthless and faithless being afraid of change. Exhibiting the state of mind which someone can get to after tremendous disappointment and heartbreak.
“A flower that blooms in the darkness can only thrive in the darkness. If it still seeks light, it will only be burned to a crisp by the blaze”
This gave her a somewhat disillusioned and cynic perspective, making her occasionally question what the purpose of life is since everything is destined to wither and die. Guided by her desire to ‘protect’ what she has left as well as what is in her power to sway, she became solely committed to making each thing she comes in contact with eternal and preserve its beauty turning her into a desperate inadvertently extremist; to her, every crime and action was a necessary ‘evil’, any manipulation was an end that justified the means, and the sacrifice of countless lives was for the greater good and an ideal poisoned life.
For all her grace, Kōyō’s intense mindset leaves her prone to lashing out with inhuman and brutish words and violent attacks. Her plot was less about preserving the beauty of someone like Kyōka for noble causes and more of a selfish attempt on her part to escape her own sorrow as she related to Kyōka, having the same powers and having a similarly tragic past, and such started caring for her deeply.
Unlike most other antagonists, whose ambitions are driven through a lust for power and recognition, Kōyō does not consider herself evil in the same sense, as her stratagem’s were motivated to protect what she cherished the most. She’s merely an old-fashioned flower stuck in its growth avoidant of any light, not seeing any trace of boundary between the self and not-self.
“LISTEN TO ME, KYŌKA. I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL. BUT... SOME THINGS ARE SIMPLY IMPOSSIBLE. NO MATTER HOW MUCH A NATURAL-BORN ASSASSIN LIKE YOU SEEKS LIGHT... A FLOWER THAT BLOOMS IN THE DARK CAN SURVIVE ONLY WITHIN THE DARK. IF YOU PURSUE THE LIGHT, ITS HEAT WILL BURN YOU UP IN THE END.”

How does writing pot boilers work? Everything I hear about publishing makes it sound like even if you have a masterpiece it's insanely hard to get repped and published and then you have to have your own website and build a huge social media following and do lots of events just to break even because there's so much competition and it's hard to make your sci-fi/fantasy/YA dystopia/Vampire Romance/genre book stand out from all the rest. So how do people make money off genre books that are intentionally generic, formulaic, and written fast and carelessly without much substance?
I'm choosing to believe this was asked in good faith and not be insulted. (Like how should I know how people make money off shitty books? MY CLIENTS DON'T WRITE SHITTY BOOKS!)
So, OK. How do people make money off shitty books? Well, I hate to break it to you, but THEY USUALLY DON'T.
I'm not saying that "money" is not a factor in many people's writing -- yes, of course, writing for publication is a job, not a hobby, authors should be fairly compensated, etc etc. But if you are thinking of writing novels solely for $$, let me tell you, you could pick a better job out of a hat. And you SHOULD.
It IS extremely difficult to get published, the field is beyond competitive. It isn't unusual at all for an author to try for a decade before they break through. It is unusual that somebody's very first book they ever try to write would be published. It's extremely unusual that a given author would make enough money to quit their day job from the sale of a single book, when and if it does happen. And even if you happen to luck out and get a six-figure deal off the bat, that money could take years to actually wend its way into your pocket.
So you really should love what you are writing, and care about it, and all that stuff. If money is the only motivating factor, do yourself a favor and learn a trade instead of (or in addition to) writing. I can almost guarantee that you'd make way more money, faster, as a skilled electrician or plumber.
As for quality of the books that are published -- well, it's subjective, isn't it? Let us say that there are a lot of popular books published that you personally think are dreck. It may shock you to know that the authors of those books probably DON'T think they are dreck. They probably didn't set out to write "an intentionally generic, formulaic book without much substance" -- and the book probably wasn't written "fast and carelessly" -- I would imagine that many/most of those authors actually worked very hard on their "dreck" and, fun fact, though obviously it isn't for you, probably LOTS AND LOTS of readers think that "dreck" is fantastic.
Sidebar, true story: An older person of my acquaintance told me once of a meeting they had with the author Jacqueline Susann, rich and famous in the 1900s for having written "potboilers" like VALLEY OF THE DOLLS. He said that when he met her, she had been typing away, *crying* at her typewriter because she just loved her characters so much and she was putting them through it. She wasn't trying to write campy or bad books (though lots of readers today, and maybe even at the time, think they ARE campy at best, actively bad at worst) -- she was putting her heart and soul into those campy, bad books, and they resonated with A LOT of readers. Do with that what you will.
MIND YOU: There ARE books published that are "fast and nothingy" on purpose -- and there are people whose job it is to write things quickly that they don't really personally care about. Ghostwriting for celebrities, or "work for hire" type projects that leave little scope for innovation. BUT. Those people are usually extremely professional writers who are actually superb at writing their own books and are hired by publishers because they know they will meet deadlines. So fast, yes. Careless? No.
How do you get hired to write books like that? Well, they usually hire already-published authors with a proven track record of turning around polished work quickly and always making deadlines. (And also, you probably aren't gonna make a ton of $$ doing those kinds of jobs -- they are usually flat fee or sometimes very low royalty and you aren't keeping the rights, they may not even have your name on them. So it's fine to do them as an "in between" type deal if you are good at it and enjoy it, but you'd likely want to ALSO write your own "books of the heart" as well!)
I have literally zero idea if that even answered your question but I'm shutting up now.

beating hearts [l'amour ouf] by gilles l ellouche
i had the opportunity to see l’amour ouf in advance, with the cast in attendance, but unfortunately, my experience was far from positive. after only 30 minutes of q&a, i had to leave the theater. benoît poelvoorde's personality disappointed me so much that i preferred to leave.
the film has two major characteristics: it feels like a script straight out of wattpad, and the production resembles a typical netflix movie. if you’re not a big movie fan, you might find some enjoyment in it, but for a cinephile, it’s a complete waste of time.
script and writing the screenplay is disappointing, bordering on caricature. the writing feels rushed, with characters whose motivations lack depth. i enjoyed the romance between the young jackie and clotaire(though the names are a questionable choice), but everything deteriorates quickly once the characters become adults.
as the protagonist, jackie is simply incomprehensible. as a teenager, she had a promising future, but as an adult, she becomes a character without purpose, focused solely on an uninteresting romance with a man. it’s frustrating to see a female character reduced to so little when she had potential. her only obsession seems to be clotaire, with no hobbies or personal goals.
in contrast, clotaire has a bit more substance: her objective is clear (to find jackie or take revenge). but again, the development remains weak. the overall writing of the characters lacks subtlety, which is particularly frustrating for fans of well-crafted narratives.
acting while mallory wanecque and malik frikah bring a refreshing energy to the younger versions of the characters, the adult performances by adèle exarchopoulos and françois civil leave much to be desired. i found their acting flat and devoid of nuance. furthermore, i don’t understand why they made adult jackie so foolish. this abrupt and inexplicable shift in her character's portrayal makes the film hard to appreciate.
positive aspects the only positive thing for me is the visual quality of the film. the images are beautiful, and it’s clear that careful work was done on the aesthetics. however, this is insufficient to compensate for the shortcomings in writing and acting.
conclusion in summary, l’amour ouf is a film that lacks depth, both in its script and its characters. if you’re looking for something light and mindless, you might find it enjoyable. but for a cinephile expecting complexity and realism, this film is a real disappointment. modern french films sometimes suffer from a lack of quality, and l’amour ouf is a glaring example of this.

IT'S FICTIONAL.
WHY ARE THERE SO MANY LINES THAT NEED TO BE DRAWN.
IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE OG FANDOM FUCKING LEAVE. YOU'RE MAKING US FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE.
With more elegance; being respectful of others' space is important, yes. Everyone always has been. It was more so, "Hey, I don't want to talk about that, can we not?" and that was that.
I suppose I can be thankful that the fandom hasn't died yet, but that's only because of knock-off 'side quest' comics that most can appreciate. There are good and bad things about it, haha, that's what a lot of people used to do though:
Cherry picked what they liked about the comic. It didn't matter if you were a hard-core cannon whore or a diehard character slut whose sole purpose was to swim in the waves of lore, fics, and art of them. Everyone was welcome with open arms all the same. No one was left out.
Original characters are basically banned and shamed, I think? That also makes me sad. You either have to make an entire Homestuck based comic that people can wade through. Otherwise, it's not worth their time or a glance.
It's okay. Time changes everyone and everything. Didn't mean to text-yell, not going to change it.
B33< I can at least say there are people still keeping OCs and trollsonas and such alive thankfully. I have too many :,33. But yes Anon, I share this sentiment.

Background HC's for W&G characters:
Wendolene has few vague memories of her mother as the two are bitterly estranged: Due to the 1900s not being well educated in PPD and treatment, shortly following her birth, the young mother returned to her own familial home, where she resides to this day, having inherited it from her own family. She divorced Wendolene's father soon after and only maintained low contact per the request of her own mum and dad to know of their only granddaughter's wellbeing, but weren't bothered enough to actually be involved in her childhood. Wendolene was primarily raised by her father, his parents and eventually, Preston, his robot variant. Currently, the Woolshop owner prefers to keep to herself and maybe communicate with secondary relatives and friends. -- Albert Mackintosh/ Albert REDACTED (we already know his main HC is Wallace's brother, the eldest of his siblings and most lawful) lives on the edge of West Wallaby Street beside his wife of 30+ years, Cassandra/Casse-Luv. He's a retired father of two boys, about to be a great-grandfather thanks to the youngest of his grandsons being a bit of a lothario, who spends his days on the local canal, pretending NOT to run the beat or risk a slipper smack from the misses. During his time on land, Albert attempts shoe cobbling and a bit of unpaid tutoring for rookie officers. He is usually told to go home because he tends to make them all cry. -- Lady Tottington is the sole beneficiary of the Tottington Hall estate, the only 'Legitimate' child of her father, Hector Caleb Tottington the 8th and his 'arranged' young bride Clarissa Montishem, a French baroness (Totally not smuggled into the family to cover for his numerous indiscretions and shady behaviour). She is (Unofficially) the 4th youngest in a brood whose birth records remain lost to the great (totally not set on purpose) Crumbberry Manor fire of 1983. Campanula is aware of her siblings and has a close relationship with her 2nd eldest brother, Louie, a French politician and her 6th/7th youngest sisters, Mari-annia and Rebenirnese, the most recently documented members of their own family's estate (They all have long, foreign names because MONEY). Lady Tottington's mother committed suicide when she was 3 by leaping from the balcony following a heated argument with Hector, locals are never really sure if she 'Fell' or if Campanula's grandmother played a part in covering for her son's explosive behavior, leaving the child to be cared for by the Montishem's until her 18th birthday where she was promptly returned to England to take over the property. She's obviously fluent in French, Italian, indian and some Latin. Lady Tottington gets her love of nature from Clarissa, and being raised in the French countryside, surrounded by community and family members wanting to use their wealth to help their town, the embodiment of "Put your money where your mouth is". She is a bit of a homebody, enjoys artistry, classical music, crochet and gentle sports, makes her own preserves from the vegetables grown in the rooftop garden and sells them under an assumed name to local farmers' markets. No current plans as of yet, is busy mothering Hutch and pushing through a bill to insist that unused land become protected to allow certain species of mushroom to become dominant and create an alternate food source.
(I'm gonna do more later, obviously hit me up with specific characters you wanna know about!)

Ok. Let's talk about why Lin Quishi reacted the way he did towards Gao Dawei becoming popular/saving the others during the earthquake (At least I think it was an earthquake, it's been a while since I've watched the Spirealm so there might be some mistakes in my recollection, and I'm basing this off the show alone. )
First keep in mind that the both of them are still in college. They're very young and very early in their young adulthood. And they're complete loners.
From what we know in the show, Lingling was heavily bullied before Gao Dawei came along. He was alone. His mom leaves him and his dad and then his dad dies. So Gao Dawei has been the one and only constant in Lin Quishi's life and he is his only family at that point.
When the earthquake happens, Gao Dawei hurries to save Lingling first, but hears a larger group of people scream for help. And so, he faces the trolley dilemma: A runaway trolley is headed towards five people tied to the tracks. A bystander has the option to pull a lever, diverting the trolley to another track where only one person is tied. The question is: should the bystander pull the lever, sacrificing one person to save five?
I have to point out that there's no right answer here, I know a lot of people will say sacrifice one person for five, but when the one person in question is someone who is as close to you as Lingling is to Gao Dawei and vice versa, the answer becomes much more complicated.
Gao Dawei makes the choice to save the larger group of people first, again, he's not wrong for doing this, there's no right answer for this situation.
Now onto Lingling. He is being crushed underneath the rubble from the earthquake and is in a tremendous amount of pain from it and barely conscious. He doesn't comprehend that there are other people screaming for help as well over the roar of his own pain and discomfort.
And the last thing he sees before passing out (thinking that he's probably gonna die) is his best friend turn away from him and leaving without helping him. And seeing that, with all the history they have, must have stung like hell.
And after all this, when Lingling does wake up, his best friend has suddenly become crazy popular (even though Gao Dawei didn't exactly want to be popular) and doesn't hang out with him as much anymore because he gets whisked away by the popular crowd. He probably felt hurt, abandoned and left behind.
Logically, I think even Lingling knew back then that Gao Dawei wasn't entirely wrong, but he was too hurt to want to think that way. It stems from that possessiveness of having only ever had one person in your entire life you can call your own (in whatever capacity you want to see it; romantic or platonic) and hating to share them with anyone and Lingling's assumption (however wrong) that he was not as important to Gao Dawei as Gao Dawei was to him. And then Gao Dawei leaves for good, effectively severing their relationship.
And for what it's worth I don't think the Lingling we saw with Ruan Nanzhu and Obsidian held any of the same resentment towards Gao Dawei anymore, because he's matured (pre frontal cortex and all that) .
And we saw how regretful Gao Dawei was for the whole situation. And I believe he made Ruan Nanzhu to be what he couldn't be for Lingling. A character who looks exactly like what Lingling wanted and whose sole purpose is to protect, help and be there for Lingling. An apology and an olive branch.
I do wish that we'd gotten some kind of a reunion between these two or atleast seen what Gao Dawei actually fully looked like, all I know for sure is that he doesn't look like Ruan Nanzhu because Lingling would've recognized him immediately. But this post is also me trying to further my 'Lin Quishi is demisexual' agenda because In my head, Lingling was in love with Gao Dawei (he falls in love with Nanzhu later but I do think Gao Dawei was his first) .

sorting the moving (무빙) parents into the sortinghatchats system - a quick character analysis
(if you’re new to this theory, your primary house is about why you do things, while your secondary house is about how you do things. you can take the quiz here — it’s fun!)
[!!! spoilers below !!!]
jang juwon: [hufflepuff primary / gryffindor secondary + hufflepuff model]
“boss, was it about money in the end?” “what else would it be? being a gangster is a job. (…) aren’t we all here to make money?" “no. i did it to protect our boys"
juwon, juwon, juwon, steel-skinned, soft-hearted monster of a man, who uses 존댓말 and doesn’t see jihee any differently because she is a person like any other, who’s in a gang for the sole purpose of protecting his boys. jang juwon is a hufflepuff primary because he treats people fairly and he belongs, he does not own. hufflepuff primaries value community, and bond to groups, rather than solely individuals, which you can see in his mentality regarding his gang. they’re his people, like he is theirs. they are together, and they are home, what do you mean you aren't here for nothing else but each other?
of course, the ones he considers his end up betraying him, and he loses his way. (his hufflepuff primary burns, if you will. it is now safer to be alone.) where does he go when he has no home anymore? he does not know. but he finds jihee, and for the first time it feels like he knows where to go. (it does not solve everything, not really, but it is close enough.)
in the end, he feels the most at home when he is part of team. and when the NIS is shut down and he is put inside walls in front of a screen that never listens, and a keyboard too small for his clumsy fingers, he feels lost again. this is not people, this is cold, lifeless walls, none of them he can run through. the team of superpowered people he later gets put in doesn’t feel exactly right, not really, but he is using what he is good at to help people, and that is the closest he can get to that feeling.
his secondary is a gryffindor; he runs into walls until the walls break, for it is the only way he’s ever known to get through things. (gryff secondaries meet their problems by charging at them, by responding directly to situations.) he has only ever chosen the easiest way, after all, and for a man whose body doesn’t break, simply running into things was the obvious easiest way. why change, why think, when he can simply push through and get through it anyway?
(he does model a hufflepuff secondary, once it's only him and his daughter. he does it for her, gives up everything to build her a better life. it's about doing the work, about showing up. it's odd jobs but honest jobs, moving constantly but still putting in the effort to show steadiness and consistency, to give his daughter a home despite the possibility of the NIS finding them at any moment.)
hwang jihee: [slytherin primary + gryffindor model / gryffindor secondary]
jihee is a healthy slytherin primary if i’ve ever seen one. she advocates for herself, (and she has to, doesn't she? or else nobody else will. not in the line of work she is,) puts herself and her dignity first despite it all. she does have a sense of justice (“that car hit and ran? did it hit you? do you want me to chase it?”) but it doesn’t eat her whole ("but if we find the culprit we split the money:)”) — it’s a nice gryff primary model she likes being in when her slytherin loyalties are not threatened.
juwon is the first person to see her fully as a person, and not a coffee lady. it softens her up immediately. — it doesn't make her fall for him, of course, nor does it get him into her circle. (if it did, she wouldn’t be a slytherin primary). she is a smart girl who advocates for herself, after all. but once he does, he does not leave. she will run into a mob of gangsters and disregard the police for him, will tell him to put himself first, even if it means having a more difficult life for both of them. because putting yourself, and the people that are yours, first, is what matters in the end.
she has a gryffindor secondary she shares with her husband. she can hold her tongue and be perfectly polite, but in the end her problems will be met head on. what other house would throw itself in 100+ mobsters without a plan? she said to hell with it, she’ll figure it out on the way.
gryff secondaries’ honesty is part of their personality and morality — jihee has seen the men play the sappy part only for their own selfish gain, and hates it deeply within her core. once she sees juwon isn’t pretending to be anyone but himself (he is also a gryffindor secondary after all) — a simple man who reads books on stories where men are bloody but loved, who is willing to buy a ticket to simply share conversations with her — she finally lets him in, slowly but surely. (her slytherin recognizes that he is also someone the world has shunned for who he is, for the labels they have stuck on him, and she embraces him warmly. he is hers now. and she is his.)
their kid is a gryff/gryff btw . she houseshares with her bf’s dad n i think that’s rlly cute . (her bf houseshares with her dad so . soulmates or whatever)
lee mihyun [gryffindor primary / ravenclaw secondary]
lee mihyun lee mihyun lee mihyun, who uses her powers like she uses her gun, carrying them around and doing the maintenance of each part every night. some would call it overdoing it, but she calls it a habit, calls it being prepared. (and amidst the very real danger that looms above her, can you blame her?) they're all tools she has on her, and years of training have taught her when to use which to get out of a situation with the upper hand. she's a ravenclaw secondary, the house that collects knowledge, tools or skills and then picks them up in times of need. she scouts for danger daily on social media, assesses the situation from a vantage point to collect intel; and yes, she's an agent, at this point it's probably second nature. but this is where she's most comfortable, pulling out from her pocket the information she gathered and the problem-solving systems she’s built whenever she gets tossed into danger.
lee mihyun’s specific brand of claw secondary has her being an adaptable problem solver — understandable, considering her tool set includes her heightened senses (six: her five senses and her common sense) and her gun (make that seven), as well as her general training as a black op agent. however, ravenclaw secondary tools are task-specific. sure, she can take out several enemy agents on her own with nothing but a gun and the strap of her handbag, but have her son bring a new pretty friend home and you’ll have her like a deer in headlights. (...the NIS did not prepare her for this)
her primary is a gryffindor, and it’s what makes her turn away from being an agent even after everything that’s on the line. it doesn’t matter, that she’s running away from the most powerful government agency, not if it’s the right thing to do. (it tires her, after losing her husband and having to do it all on her own. but she doesn't burn, not fully —she can't, not with her son still by her side.) now gryff primaries believe in trusting yourself and your gut, in doing so even if the whole world (or several hundred government agents) is against you. at the end of the day, the most important things is staying true to what’s inside of you.
so in that fateful moment when the mission was clear, the orders indisputable, she turned away from her organization, her boss, her colleagues, to do what she felt was right. gun in her hand, she said to hell with consequences, i have to stay true to what i believe in — these people are enemies, but they are people and what we’re doing right now is wrong. (from afar, her future husband will see her act upon everything he had been feeling until then, will see a braver reflection of his own gryff primary, and he will fall in love.)
kim dooshik [gryffindor primary/gryffindor secondary]
kim dooshik is a bit harder to sort; we really don’t see him as much as we could have. he has a gryffindor primary he shares with his wife; their whole story is about finding someone who believes in the same thing they do, stuck in an organization that tells them otherwise. he can look hufflepuff, in the way he values people and fairness — but the core of gryff primaries is about trusting your beliefs and doing your best to live by them. it’s about the bravery to pursue them, even if it leads him to a life of being chased, and captured, and tortured (…literally).
he has a gryffindor secondary to go with it. that time he tried to diffuse the bomb on a civilian plane under no orders but his own? no orders, no plans, just him flying and trying to save people? very gryff/gryff of him. he also shares a lion secondary with his partner and they play off each other very well. (dooshik casually just letting juwon fall several hundred miles from the sky into where the enemies are and letting him figure it out… #justgryffsecondarybrosthingz)
sure, sure, one could argue for a ravenclaw secondary — but i think that’s just him being an agent. of course he would train and strategize. of course he would have backup plans. but at the end of the day, the method he falls back on is his charging, making it up as he goes. most of all, it’s his blunt honesty, his genuineness that we see shine in his actions. (even in the way he pursues mihyun — not a single disingenuous bone in his body)
at the end of the day, he’ll rush into a problem when he believes it is right, no matter the consequences. he’ll fly into the enemy’s hands to protect his family, spend years imprisoned in a cave not faltering in his beliefs. a gryff/gryff through and through.
#sortinghatchats#moving kdrama#character analysis#hyperfixation is slowly dying down i’m moving (no pun intended) on to another kdrama#but i already had half of this typed up so might as well post it#this is lit so niche so the chances of someone knowing abt shc AND moving are so slim but yolo#the amount of times i’ve sorted characters n done nothing abt it: a crime . too many random headcanons in my brain#got too lazy to write abt the kids but technically mentioned their sorting anyway#(not kanghoon . sorry kanghoon) ((he gives idealist vibes tho))#one could argue bongseok is a puff/puff . actually that person would be me . need more thots#yeah his gryff secondary is probably a model he acquires way later . anyway

Minette watches Medici, part 18 (The Ten)
-*sigh* Do I have to? You know the drill. The writing is poor, there's too much exposition, Lorenzo is Gary Stu, the show worships the ground Medici family walks on, Riario is a villain with little nuance or charisma... Man. I am so tired of this show, you can't even imagine.
-First I'd like to note that there are a lot of things where I have to just nod along and be like "sounds legit", particularly when it comes to war tactics. I am not a military history person, what can I say. I absolutely do not understand that shit.
-Riario isn't exactly endearing himself to me. Oh, he thinks he's cute with his requests to turn over one's own dagger. Oh, he folds after one well articulated argument from his wife and possibly the sight of her not even that well showcased tits. Oh, he still acts aggressively towards her while admitting her arguments are valid because he's an insecure manbaby. Oh, instead of shanking Lorenzo en route to the country villa, he sends the assassins to said villa to massacre the whole family, because that's totally necessary. I remain unamused.
-On the other hand, I cherish every appearance from Caterina Sforza, not because she's that great of a character, but because the historical person was pretty dope and Rose Williams is insanely hot. I still hope she'll do at least something cool in the remaining episodes.
-The attack on the villa was laaame! Five minutes of cheap tension and action that makes an average Michael Bay flick look coherent. I am still baffled where the dudes that helped out Lorenzo came from and how many there actually were.
-Equally eyeroll-inducing is Bernardi, whose sole purpose seems to be acting as the bad angel on Lorenzo's shoulder. I mean, at least he has an interesting personality and the decency to be subtle in his relative villainy, but still. He steals some of the moral ambiguity from Lorenzo, and I for one think that's an unforgivable crime. I still don't know what to make of his crush on Lucrezia T, let's just wait and see where they are going with this...
-Speaking of Lucrezias - Lucrezia D came back... Only to ineffectually appeal to her husband (who apparently STILL has no idea she's been banging Lorenzo in the past?) and also inadvertently make Clarice jealous by, like, talking to Lorenzo. I am living off of scraps here, people. Doesn't help that Clarice isn't doing anything that interesting either, like yeah, her charitable activities are cool and all, but that's basically it as far as her character goes so far.
-Giulio leaves me kinda cold. I still don't get what this boy's deal is, other than him being sad and feeling like he doesn't belong. What I mean is that he's a character that has the potential to be interesting, but the show so far doesn't bother developing him. I do hope that we get more of him bonding with Carlo, though. That could be fun.
-Obligatory Leonardo da Vinci cameo! Yay! *deep sigh* Well, at least they portray him in a semi-interesting way and try to showcase his unconventional opinions. Still, this kind of cameo makes me greatly appreciate the complex characterization of Sandro Boticelli. Honestly, Sandro in general is slowly growing on me as a character, the whole "raised by the Medici" nonsense notwithstanding.
-Lorenzo's Ivan the Terrible gambit was admittedly pretty clever, even if it did reek of a man who just absolutely cannot stand that he's not getting his way, which again would be a nice character flaw if it was intentional, but it isn't, so again, fuck this godforsaken Gary Stu. I can't even properly enjoy how much he suffers in this episode, because so does the rest of his family, including my baby Clarice. For shame. And oh God not again the shit with "maintaining the republic"... *sigh* Okay, I ranted about that all the damn time in the previous Minette watches Medici instalments, let's move on.
-Bianca cameo! Yay! ...I would say if I gave a shit about Bianca, or if she did something interesting, but I don't and she doesn't, so. Her lame husband isn't anywhere to be seen, presumably because he's running around Middle Earth trying to fuck Morfydd Clarke.
-People, I really want to say something positive about this episode, but every one of my opinions that isn't outright hateful comes off kinda half-hearted. I am so, so sorry.
-The one thing I like so far was Savonarola's story, which is surprisingly nuanced and relatively well-written (even if the whole "keeping an infected man in my own apartments" thing is a bit dumb). Even if I am still a bit butthurt over the absence of Pico della Mirandolla. Again, where the fuck is humanism in this renaissance and humanism show?
