“Extreme/Ultimate/Final Tomato Plant Pruning Stage” — experimental. The idea is that once you have the final tomato fruit cluster growth of the season, you start directing water traffic, and how much photosynthesis you need to finish up the lifetime of the crop. Here, I am pruning ALL suckers and leaves, and topping EVERYTHING off (I don’t need photosysthesis anymore). I call it “plant plumbing” — send water up/down the line. Top layer of compost soil soaked thoroughly (lightly flooded), so that water continues to get in and up the stream, to the fruits. Did you know that when growing fruit trees, you choose either a central leader or an open center? I didn’t know either. lol The pear tree (apples too) for example grows with a central leader. Basically have one main vertical branch and others grow 45 degrees to it. Remove competing central leader or like I’m doing here, put a brace to make it grow outwards instead of compete with the central leader. I have to be extra careful when training branches.
