Is it just me, or do ShihoSaki and RubyLeah share similar vibes, right down to similar older siblings (the loud and overprotective secret goofball elder sibling, and the more laid-back and cheerful elder sibling)? Kinda makes me want to do an AU, featuring the Tenmas as the Kurosawas and the Hinomoris as the Kazunos, and vice-versa.

(If someone were to do art/develop my AU further, that would be such an honor!)

Both Leah and Sarah were now very used to their trips to Uchiura. They frequently helped Aqours with their physical and vocal training, and it was quite right to say they were all close friends. Especially Ruby and Leah. It was an open secret Leah had a huge crush on Ruby, everyone – or almost everyone since Chika didn’t have the brightest mind – knew about it.

Except Ruby.

And that was incredibly frustrating for Leah. Though that didn’t mean she was mad, she was just frustrated at herself for being such a disaster when expressing her feelings. Her older sister always encouraged her, even Dia made little efforts to help her by leaving Ruby and Leah as much alone time as possible while the Kazuno sisters were in Uchiura.

One day during their dance practice, Leah sat down a bit in order to rest and drink some water. She watched the others as they kept practicing, but her eyes unconsciously darted to Ruby.

Ruby was cute. Very cute. When dancing, she looked incredibly cheerful and lively, it was quite endearing to see. But it was a totally different sight for Leah. In her eyes, Ruby was light, sweetness, comfort. Ruby changed her life. Seeing how she smiled while she danced happily left her speechless, hypnotised and furiously blushed.

“You okay?” Hanamaru asked with concern when she saw Leah’s flushed cheeks. She was also aware Leah liked Ruby but preferred not to intervene in other people’s heart matters.

“She’s just drooling over Ruby again.” Yohane said from behind Leah.

“Shhhh!” Leah tried to silence Yohane by putting a hand on her mouth. “Stop it.”

Murmuring into Leah’s hand, Yohane narrowed her eyes. “Why? It’s true!”

“Stop picking on her.” Hanamaru gently smacked the back of Yohane’s head. “You know she’s trying.”

Just after Hanamaru grabbed Yohane and walked away from them, it was Dia the one who sat beside Leah. “She’s pretty, isn’t she?” Dia said, her eyes fixed on Ruby, who was still practicing her dance with Chika.

“… Very.” Leah acknowledged, her face crimson red. “I want to tell her.” She lowered her head. “But my mind goes blank and the words get stuck in my throat the moment I open my mouth.”

“Getting nervous is a normal reaction when it comes to talking about feelings. Besides, you don’t have to rush things. Take your time and face her only when you’re ready.”

Leah hugged her knees awkwardly, but nodded, her gaze on Ruby again. “Thank you. For your… advices.”

“You don’t have to thank me.” Dia gave her a tender smile. “Now, let’s get back to practice, shall we?”

“I’ll go in a moment.” Reaching for her water bottle, Leah looked up to the sky and thought about Dia’s words. She was right, there was no need to rush things, but she had been bottling up her feelings for months. And she wasn’t sure if Ruby liked her back. Would Ruby be uncomfortable at her confession? Would she distance herself from her? Would she reciprocate it?

“Leah!” When Leah came back to reality, Ruby’s face was in front of hers, and Leah fell on her back. Her face couldn’t be redder, she felt like she was burning. “You spaced out, are you okay?”

“I-I’m fine. Don’t worry.”

“Okay.” Ruby seemed worried at first, but Leah’s words were enough to convince her. “I need your help with this specific part of the dance. I’m having difficulties with it and Mari told me you could teach it to me.” Ruby explained as she offered her hand.

Leah’s widened eyes went to Mari, and the blonde just winked at her as she mouthed the words you can do it. With a deep sigh, Leah took Ruby’s hand, her pout turning into a smile.

Confessing or not, having Ruby by her side was enough to make her happy.
