Happy 80th Birthday to Pepe Le Pew
Tumblr media
The world famous French skunk Pepe Le Pew now hits the big eight zero!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Created by director Chuck Jones and writer Mike Maltese, Pepe was inspired and based on famous womanizers of the 1930s and '40s, such as Clark Gable and Charles Boyer (with Pepe's name directly taken from Boyer's Pepe Le Monko (1937)), Pepe became an exaggeration of this characteristic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like many LT characters, Pepe started in as a prototype character named "Stinky" in Odor-able Kitty (1945), faking his French accent and revealed by the end that he is married and has kids.
Afterwards a couple more experimental shorts, such as Scent-imental Over (1947) and Odor of the Day (1948) (the only Pepe short directed by Arthur Davis), he would develop into the character that we know today. His most iconic for being oblivious to the fact that his odor is turns the "skunks" off. His relentless optimism, overtly romantic advances and overconfidence is part of what makes his character humorous and charming.
Tumblr media
An interesting story to note is that while Jones adored the character and would continue his series well-after Mike Maltese left in 1953 during Warner Bros. Cartoons studio's brief shut down during the rise of the then-new and revolutionary 3-D in film, Maltese stated that wasn't too crazy about Pepe, according to Mark Evanier (animation historian and head writer of Garfield & Friends).
With the change in attitudes as times went on, the character has slowly garnered controversy in later years for being perceived as "problematic" and perpetuating assault. Interestingly, even as early as the 1990s, in Tiny Toon Adventures, this became one of the main reasons why Pepe's was a female counterpart, Fifi La Fume, is indeed a female, and why Pepe doesn't chase after Penelope that much in later Looney Tune productions or why Pepe is rarely seen in much merchandise. Though, despite this, Pepe still has his legion of fans to support him to this day, which resulted in his comeback after WB's brief decision to discontinue the character.

Foghoron Leghorn with Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner - Pepe Le Pew and Penelope Pussycat - Looney Tunes - Cartoons
In order not to draw only ducks and only related to Disney, I drew related to one of my favorite cartoons, Looney Tunes, and two drawings.
The first drawing is related to sadness by Wile E. Coyote and Road Roadrunner, the famous non-speaking duo that Coyote wants to capture and eat Roadrunner but succeeds and becomes one of the most unlucky characters overall. Yes, it is confirmed by the fact that the company that created Looney Tunes canceled the broadcast of the movie Coyote vs Acme, which is really a big stupid thing in my opinion. And that's why Coyote is very sad and is comforted by his rival Roadrunner. And because of the current meme and the fact that he likes to talk all the time, I added Foghorn Leghorn, the famous rooster from Looney Tunes who advises and criticizes his people with his accent from the American South and for his speeches he has become famous. Yes, here Foghorn is pitying Coyote and criticizing owner Warner Bros for treating them badly, so Disney isn't the only one who treats their characters badly. And they are all together in the area of the Grand Canyon.
For those who can't see what my drawing says, here's what Foghorn says: "Boy, I say boy, what did I tell you? Y'see, that the main director won't let you make your movie at any price because he is an big asshole and we are just like mascots for children. Can you dig it?"
The second drawing I drew is one of my favorite couples, Pepe Le Pew and Penelope Pussycat. And before anyone even attacks me that it's not true that they love each other, look at the last cartoons before they banned Pepe for stupid reasons, where the two really love each other. Yes, in the old cartoons, Penelope avoided Pepe, because Pepe is a skunk and stinks, but there are times when Penelope wanted to hug Pepe. However, one approach is to old cartoons, and the other is more recent. They certainly don't do that anymore, and I love them together no matter what and I'm very sad that they banned Pepe from appearing anymore. I wish he could come back. That's why I drew the usual them in my own way in my own style, the two of them who are really underrated characters. Also this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APH4kmx-sAI
Pepe, Penelope, Wile and Road were invented by Chuck Jones, while Foghorn Leghorn was invented by Robert McKimson.
I hope you like these drawings and I hope these Looney Tunes characters get their justice. Feel free to like and reblog this if you're a fan of these characters!

In my Pewnelope stories, I assume that Penelope (like the other toons) wouldn't dare tell Pepe that he smells bad. But despite being a blind fool, Pepe must sometimes notice that Penelope has a funny accessory on her nose…
Also, sometimes I won't draw it and sometimes I will… I get the impression that Pepe's stink is very random.

Building a Building (1933)
Mickey is a bit of a bumbling construction worker who keeps hurting Peg-leg Pete at their work site. The cat snatches Minnie to get even but Mickey saves the day. Very polished short that's well animated, but the plot is a bit boring and doesn't do much with the construction setting. Mickey is cute though, they've really streamlined his design by this point.
