Neom: A Novel from the World of Central Station by Lavie Tidhar
The city known as Neom is many things to many beings, human or otherwise. It is a tech wonderland for the rich and beautiful; an urban sprawl along the Red Sea; and a port of call between Earth and the stars.
In the desert, young orphan Elias has joined a caravan, hoping to earn his passage off-world. But the desert is full of mechanical artefacts, some unexplained and some unexploded. Recently, a wry, unnamed robot has unearthed one of the region’s biggest mysteries: the vestiges of a golden man. In Neom, childhood affection is rekindling between loyal shurta-officer Nasir and hardworking flower-seller Mariam. But Nasu, a deadly terrorartist, has come to the city with missing memories and unfinished business. Just one robot can change a city’s destiny with a single rose—especially when that robot is in search of lost love.
My Review: Lavie Tidhar is one of my favorite write and he could write a shopping list and my review would sort of “tought provoking, gripping, original, entertaining”. I love his alternate historical novels, his fantasy novels, and his work as editor of world sci-fi anthologies. That said NEOM is a great story, it made me think of a mix of dream and dystopia. A place for the young and rich which is not far from the reminder of a far away past. A novel that kept me reading, moved me to tears for an old automaton being destroyed, love the characters. I enjoyed it, found it entertaining but it also made me think as the descriptions of NEOM are so similar to those of our world. It can be read as a stand-alone but I would recommend to read Central Station to appreciate all the nuances of this story I strongly recommend it, many thanks to Tachyon Publications for this digital copy, all opinions are mine
The Author: British Science Fiction, Prix Planète, and World Fantasy Award winning author Lavie Tidhar (A Man Lies Dreaming, The Escapement, Unholy Land, The Hood) is an acclaimed author of literature, science fiction, fantasy, graphic novels, and middle grade fiction. Tidhar received the Campbell, Xingyun, and Neukom awards for the novel Central Station. In addition to his fiction and nonfiction, Tidhar is the editor of the Apex Best of World Science Fiction series and a columnist for the Washington Post. His speaking appearances include Cambridge University, PEN, and the Singapore Writers Festival. He has been a Guest of Honour at book conventions in Japan, Poland, Spain, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, China, and elsewhere; he is currently a visiting professor and writer in residence at the American International University. Tidhar currently resides with his family in London.

While Lavie Tidhar's new sci-fi novel "Neom" is set in the same universe as his novel "Central Station," in this exclusive Q&A he explains why "Station" is not required reading for enjoying or understanding "Neom." 📖🖋

Pawns are such fascinating pieces, too...So small, almost insignificant, and yet--they can depose kings. Don't you find that interesting? A couple of reviews
The Circumference of the World by Lavie Tidhar
Caught between realities, a mathematician, a book dealer, and a mobster desperately seek a notorious book that disappears upon being read. Only the author, a rakish sci-fi writer, knows whether his popular novel is truthful or a hoax. In a story that is cosmic, inventive, and sly, multi-award-winning author Lavie Tidhar (Central Station) travels from the emergence of life to the very ends of the universe.
Delia Welegtabit discovered two things during her childhood on a South Pacific island: her love for mathematics and a novel that isn’t supposed to exist. But the elusive book proves unexpectedly dangerous. Oskar Lens, a science fiction-obsessed mobster in the midst of an existential crisis, will stop at nothing to find the novel. After Delia’s husband Levi goes missing, she seeks help from Daniel Chase, a young, face-blind book dealer. The infamous novel Lode Stars was written by the infamous Eugene Charles Hartley: legendary pulp science-fiction writer and founder of the Church of the All-Seeing Eyes. In Hartley’s novel, a doppelganger of Delia searches for her missing father in a strange star system. But is any of Lode Stars real? Was Hartley a cynical conman on a quest for wealth and immortality, creating a religion he did not believe in? Or was he a visionary who truly discovered the secrets of the universe?
My Review: This is not the best Lavie Tidhar but the level is usually so high that I loved it. A homage to classic sci-fi, a book about a book, multiple POVs and threads. It's a book that can be confusing at times, a lot threads with a lot of jumps but will converge in a solid solution at the end. There's a fascinating world building, questions and an excellent storytelling. I was enthralled and had to finish it even when I felt a bit lost as there was always something that kept me coming back. Highly recommended. Many thanks to Tachyon Publications for this digital copy, all opinions are mine

A Stranger in the Citadel by Tobias Buckell
From powerful storyteller Tobias Buckell (Crystal Rain, The Tangled Lands), a complex novel of humanity’s passion for the written word. At the revolutionary crossroads of magic, betrayal, and long-forgotten truths, a naïve, compassionate royal and a determined, hunted librarian discover a dangerous world of mortal and ancient menaces.
The life of the youngest musketress of Ninetha has been one of hard training. But Lilith’s days have also contained many pleasures, the royal privileges of her family’s guardianship of the Cornucopia, a mystical source of limitless bounty. Lilith has never seen a book, and she never expects to encounter one within the safety of the citadel. When Ishmael, an outcast librarian, shows up outside the Afriq Gate, Lilith saves him from immediate execution by her father’s second-in-command, the zealot Kira. As Lilith’s curiosity draws her to Ishmael, she lets slip her family’s most dangerous secret to Kira, sparking a deadly rebellion and an unexpected journey full of stunning revelations.
My Review: Sometimes you start book and you feel enthralled by the plot and the storytelling. It happened with this book, I was in love with this story since the moment Lilith sees her first book as we are introduced to this complex and intriguing world building. There’s a very original magical system, strong characters and emotions, it’s one of those cases you would be happy if this was a series and you could learn more about this world. Tobias S. Buckell can writes and I want to read some of the other series as I thoroughly enjoyed this story Highly recommended. Many thanks to Tachyon Publications for this digital copy, all opinions are mine
