astro observations 9

hey folks, I found new stuff to talk about. this is more of an outer planets and generations obs 🚀

✮⌁ when uranus conjunct pluto happened during 1964, we saw a lot of rebellious music, fashion and other forms of expression, the beatles, bowie's debut album, twiggy, bob dylan.. etc. It was an important decade for many changes and revolutions. It's why so many people are still influenced by the art, music and appeal of that era. Even though it was a relatively short period, the intense need for freedom was loudly expressed that decade. I think with pluto in aquarius we may see similar events, but on a larger scale and with a far more lasting impact.

✮⌁ neptune will move into aries in 2025, and boy when I tell you I can't wait, I terribly mean it. I think neptune in pisces wasn’t doing it for me, I had creative expectations for it but it was all about spirituality and faith practices on the internet and an unhealthy addiction to it. this was right after neptune in aquarius which we all know made the internet an addiction in itself.

✮⌁ It had its positive impact, being open-minded about different beliefs, exploring our intuition and faith and other abstract topics. but we've already seen the negative impact. It's mainly the spirituality addiction on the internet that has became almost inescapable, replacing reality, practices performed and consumed by really young individuals which could distort their view on the world at an older age. living in an illusion and assumption of everything and everyone, believing everything you hear blindly, because of your or someone else's false sense of intuition will make the world more closed-off and less likely to evolve. it can create a reversed effect, inducing fear of real life interactions, closed-mindedness and seclusion.

✮⌁ with neptune in aries, we will come out of our shells and live in the real world, we will explore the world with a new set of eyes and a fresh sense of passion and childlike wonder. We're less likely to listen to our fears and other people's assumptions and bs. It's a new astrological cycle. Our collective hopes, dreams, fantasies and passions are reborn. Now especially when uranus moves into gemini, the same year, people will be more encouraged to become social and intimate, more fun talks and activities, I hope 🥹 this will also help fuel the inventive ideas pluto in aquarius brings with it.

✮⌁ y'all there's more to astrology than just money, success and fame. you can explore the world with that tool, thousands of things to talk about. there're topics that aren't given as much attention here. if you have something interesting and new you posted or you wanna talk about and are shy plssss just share it in the comments I'm all for ittt I wanna see it.

✮⌁ last time pluto was in aquarius 1778-1798, there was an industrial revolution going on, the peak of "the age of enlightenment", the french revolution, and many other political revolutions. the battery, hot-air balloon and parachute were some of the things invented. uranus was discovered in 1781. fun fact, the airplane was invented when pluto was retrograde in gemini in 1903, which makes sense since it rules over flying and air travel, also uranus was in sagittarius which rules travel as well, so interestingly enough there was a uranus-pluto opposition.

✮⌁ when uranus moves into gemini (ruling air travel) and with pluto being in aquarius, we literally may see spaceship inventions or spacecrafts and rockets that will launch to space. we may even be able to travel to a certain planet or at least find something new about it. we may find creatures or living things in space. air travel may look different, hydrogen-powered planes, cleaner and eco-friendly energy sources. at the very least we may hear of new scientists, and keep up with them.

✮⌁ any outer planet in libra, is a timeline I'd like to skip if I ever lived in, which I won't thankfully. It's by far the least sign that has potential to bring evolution and advancement to a generation, excluding aspects, it just ain’t doing much. Idk what it is, but maybe people are less likely to do anything considered immoral or unaccepted, they're more likely to do things like pleasing the generation's expectations and opinions. It brings a sense of connectivity, an understanding of comprise to connect and relate to our environment, and a focus on relationship matters, which of course is a building brick to bigger changes like all the transits are. but for me, not an exciting time, ig it's why I'm born in neptune and uranus in aquarius gen 💀

✮⌁ many of us have parents that have uranus or pluto in libra, and tbf, they likely were closed minded, people pleasing or even racist at times. but our pluto sag ass knew how to deal with it. how many of y'all gen z's gave your mommy a lecture on lgbt+ rights and the people with other cultures and backgrounds? 🖐🏼 also butting heads over someone wearing something on the streets, I'm like "THEY CAN DO whatever they want, let them live"

✮⌁ speaking of pluto in sagittarius, I'm a little underwhelmed. dgmw we made so many changes and paved the way for future generations, but moreso, perspective wise. I didn't see many tangible changes from this gen compared to pluto in scorpio, which was wild in terms of sexual expression, experiments, conspiracies, institutional corruption, societal and medical change. pluto in sag was kinda mild, we allowed everyone's voice to be heard, explored other cultures and lifestyles, probably have friends from all around the world, we're willing to learn and are open to all sources of knowledge, we're truth tellers and we won't shut up. I guess our mission was too easy for us.

✮⌁ pluto in sag gen probably have challenging experiences relating to higher education, college years may have been dark and even traumatic for many esp if you also have it conjunct chiron 🏴‍☠️ even our sense of belief in ourselves and optimism is wounded, we put on a happy front because we see a better future for the world at large, but not for us, like we're some type of teachers or gurus raising a child.

✮⌁ if you have pluto conjunct chiron, you may feel dismissed or misplaced. things can hurt deeply with this. this also may indicate some family karma that needs to be resolved. your ancestors may have done shady stuff that cost them a lot. you are here to change that and find the light that future generations will thank you for. you got the resources to do so since conjunction is the most beneficial of all. you got a lot of healing and transformative powers. since it's in sag, it may be about clearing up nasty beliefs and perceptions of people and the world, even harmful actions and disrespect towards different individuals. you're the truth-seeker that refuses to take on outdated traditions and beliefs.

✮⌁ pluto in capricorn gen understand the value of monetary resources because they experienced a restriction of it at some point in their lives. there's this feeling of restriction coming from societal rules or memories of such repressive time, which they may feel the need to go against and prove themselves by working and gaining more power. they know how to survive in times of chaos and make the most out of what they have. they may have goals of creating some type of legacy for themselves and future generations. also maybe capricorn ruling the skeletal system is why caps give the 💀🩻🪦🏴‍☠️ impression, sry I keep making jokes about y'all, but ya dgaf 🫶🏼

I’d been standing across from this TinMan for at least an hour, trying to convince him that I was not a criminal and I did not steal the ship that I accidentally took.

“Beef-ro.”, I corrected him with a I’m-losing-my-patience-quickly smile.

Despite his covered face, the slight head tilt and hint of a digitized huff, I knew he was just as frustrated with me as I was with him.

His modulated voice cut the awkward silence. “And your chain code?”

I clenched my jaw and finally let out a sigh and hung my head, my hands clapping together to avoid trying to slap his shiny, metal face.

“Look, uh – “, I started, pointing my hands, palms together, at him, before realizing we’d been so focused on my name that we’d completely forgotten to address his, “you… I think you’re barking up the wrong tree.”

“I am not barking and there are no trees on this ship.”

I closed my eyes and muttered, “Jesus Murphy…”, then stared at him, questioning my sanity.

“Listen, you metaphor-hating trashcan, I don’t know what a chain code is. I’m really bad at Java scrip and my DOS is like… not that great. I know how to do a ping test and open a command window but that’s it!”

I wasn’t sure if what I said permeated my shiny captor’s dense helmet, until a long, tinny breath was released. I’m pretty sure I just witnessed my first full body eye roll.

I threw my hands up in the air and blurted out, “Just my fucking luck! I meet a space computer nerd with a holier-than-thou attitude at the end of the universe, and –“

“We’re not at the end of the universe…”

“Don’t interrupt! It’s rude – and it’s a fucking figure of speech, you grape!”

Hi there, Space Cadets! I'm an aspiring musician crafting cinematic multi-genre soundscapes infused with a sprinkle of stardust. My music journeys through the cosmos of human emotion, exploring themes like love, loss, family, self-discovery, and mental health, sometimes with a sci-fi twist.

“You’re right,” Peter replies without thinking as he turns to meet Caffrey’s shielded eyes. “I am a lucky man.”

His words hang in the air and Caffrey’s face turns carefully guarded. Peter can’t tell what lurks in those crystal clear eyes behind the aviators, but he isn’t sure that he wants to know. They launch into space in just three short days. Whatever bubbles in Peter’s chest, whatever sparks in his blood, whatever attraction draws him to Caffrey… he can’t afford to let it show.

He turns away to stare at the rocket. “I am a lucky man,” he repeats with a firm nod. “A dream job, a beautiful wife who loves me, a dog who listens to me sometimes -”

“And me.” Caffrey adds, and Peter feels the weight of that magnetic gaze fall on his profile.

rating lego space shuttles: eighties/nineties

this was fun with the ambulances so I’m going again

fun fact: because of the way linear time works, there are no pre-minifig lego space shuttles.

#442 Space Shuttle/#891 Two Seat Space Scooter (1979)

we’re starting off... weird. it’s got the swept back wings but other than that there was clearly no effort whatsoever to make this set called “space shuttle” look like an actual space shuttle orbiter (which did exist and was publicly known in 1979 even though it hadn’t been launched yet). given that the EU version makes no such connection I’m assuming this was just given the name for the us market to capitalize on space shuttle excitement. it’s a nice little spaceship but I’m not happy with the dishonesty. 🚀

there are a couple of other early space sets with “shuttle” in their names but the intent with them seems to be more like the shuttles in star trek and star wars rather than referring to the real life vehicle so I’m not going to drag them through the mud here.

#8855 Prop Plane (1988)

the second lego space shuttle is one of several we’ll be seeing where the shuttle is actually a secondary build for an airplane set. an attempt is being made here, and you can kind of see what they’re going for, but it just doesn’t work for me. the lack of any attempt at, you know, engines is particularly shameful. that said, while I haven’t handled this build myself, it appears that the cargo bay opens up (albeit in entirely the wrong way) and there’s even a manipulator arm inside. overall: good try. 🚀🚀

#1682 Space Shuttle Launch (1990)

much better. building techniques will vary, attempts at scale will improve and regress, specialized parts of varying quality and niceness will be produced, but this here is basically establishing the precedent for what a typical lego space shuttle set is like. you’ve got a launch pad, a support structure with an elevator (sadly immobile in this case), a little vehicle to transport the crew to the pad, an astronaut and some ground crew, and of course the shuttle orbiter with a little canadarm and a satellite inside, with two solid rocket boosters and a fuel tank attached. unusually, the astronaut has a sticker on his torso, with an american flag and a nasa logo. similar stickers are all over the shuttle and even the car-thing. this kind of specific tie to the real space shuttle won’t return in minifig-scale sets for a long time. now there are some noticeable big avoidable inaccuracies, most notably that the fuel tank needs to be longer and not gray (orange lego wasn’t really a thing at the time but I feel like red or yellow would have been a reasonable substitute) and the fact that the shuttle has an opening trunk for some reason???, and also there are some awkward bits to the design, most memorably the cargo doors that fold out in three segments each. still, very good. 🚀🚀🚀🚀

6346 Shuttle Launching Crew (1992)

aaaaaaand we’ve regressed. the shuttle is shorter now, one of the main engines is missing, the wings are generic triangles, and you can’t see it here but the surprisingly realistic representation of the canadarm from #1682 has been replaced by a generic robot claw arm from the space theme (at least the origin is appropriate). the astronaut has regressed, too, now wearing the exact same generic flight suit as the ambulance driver from #1896 (which is also suspiciously similar to the motorcycle drivers here) which made that set hilarious but this one boring. there are a couple of small improvements though: the shuttle has landing gear now, and there are a couple of tiles on top of the cargo bay doors so they open as a single unit. also, remember that red and blue striping with the =v= design, it’s a surprise tool to help us later. 🚀🚀🚀 incidentally, space shuttles have been transported by truck on occasion, and because of how big they are you really would want all these escort vehicles.

#6339 Shuttle Launch Pad/#6544 Shuttle Transcon 2 (1995)

welcome to LAUNCH COMMAND, the first dedicated town/city space exploration subtheme! the stripey =v= design returns, now accompanied by a neat little space shuttle logo. the new orbiter (identical between the two sets except for slightly different stickers) keeps the improvements from #6346, regains its third engine, and gets a new canadarm design that splits the difference between playability and looking right, plus new pieces designed specifically to accurately represent the wings and tail. unfortunately, these improvements come at the price of the oms pods, which are now just half-cylinders with no engines in evidence. the astronauts have a cool new visor piece that’s reflective gold and a specially printed torso, the ground crew similarly have special launch command uniforms, and all of them wear headsets. two near-identical versions of this shuttle (one numbered 2 and the other 3, #6346 presumably being 1) were available, one with this shiny new launch pad and redesigned fuel tank (still gray and too small) and boosters, and the other with a jet that doesn’t really look like the shuttle carrier aircraft but eh, it works. 🚀🚀🚀🚀

#8480 Space Shuttle (1996)

technic’s second attempt at a space shuttle is a dedicated set and consequently fares way better. it’s big, it’s properly colored, it’s got lots of details, and on top of that it’s full of fancy electronics. it lights up! it’s motorized! it also kind of looks like a skeleton, but that’s what you expect from a technic set from the mid-nineties. 🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀

#3067 Test Shuttle X (1999)

what the hell is this, space port? why is the tail fin a flat panel facing the direction of travel? 0 spaceships. listen, this is a tiny little shuttle and I know it seems unfair of me to rag on it, but space port deserves everything I can throw at it. it’s just not good.

#6456 Mission Control (1999)

you see? look at this shit. look at the crap lego handed us and called a space shuttle. why does it separate? this isn’t blacktron! why are the wings so proportionally small? why does the cargo bay open in three directions? why does it just launch directly from the crawler? why is the satellite just a logo with solar panels? I’ll tell you why. it’s because the only thing lego was thinking about was how much kids were gonna love the giant oversized electronics chunk. if you were a kid who tried to build around the giant oversized electronics chunk, you may be entitled to financial compensation.

the female astronaut and the new helmet/backpack earn it a pity spaceship though. 🚀

This week was insane for me🤪. How was yours? I attended an event at Vermillion❣️, a gallery space on Capitol Hill sponsored by Creative Commons (CC), on Monday. Do you know what CC is? Creative Commons is a non-profit organization that provides free copyright licenses 📝 to creators, authors📚 & artists (including musicians 🎼), which lets them share their work while retaining some rights. I was curious about the reason for the event, so I went. Was it fundraising💵? In a way, yes, similar to the “quiet phase” of a capital campaign 🤫. They were in town meeting organizations that already support them, & it gave them a chance to connect with other supporters 🤝 & gather information. The resources available via CC are not just the arts🎨, like Flickr or Unsplash 📷, or the music site Tribe of Noise 🎶. Some include data sets that can used by researchers📈. As taxpayers, we funded many of the projects. CC helps make the data accessible to the public📢. I spoke with CEO Catherine Stihler☝️. She’s passionate about CC’s purpose & helping it expand to more countries 🌏. Fascinating note: Catherine, pictured in the carousel, was a European Parliament (MEP) member for Scotland from 1999 to 2019🇬🇧. Workwise, 2 of my website projects 💻 are nearly ready to launch🚀. It has been intense & stressful to get to this point😧, but I see the light at the end of both tunnels. Still, I’m exhausted🥱! Last night, as I was tweeting about ChatGPT🐦 with crime photographer @ScotlandYardCSI 📸, our conversation was seen by Colin Baker with Aljazeera 📺. He emailed me, asking if he could interview me via Zoom 🖥️. So, at 1 AM, his producer helped get me set up, & we spoke. Very random!
