please tell us about the characters in adamandi. please. i watched it a day ago and its been STUCK in my head. i want to know everything about it. im transcribing the lyrics to the songs. its bad. youve single-handedly given be so much brainrot its insane

I'm so glad you liked it! (Also, the lyrics are all pre-transcribed in Genius if you want 'em!) If you have more specific questions about the characters we are happy to oblige but here is a fun fact about each of them that didn't make it into the show:

Vincent

We experimented with a couple of historically accurate options for Vincent’s backstory, neither of which are fully explained in the show. One option was that Vincent’s parents immigrated from China before the Chinese Exclusion Act. However, most of the first Chinese students at elite universities were sponsored by missionaries, so another option was for Vincent to enter the country during the time the Exclusion Act was in effect, since merchants, diplomats, and students could still enter America. Vincent is probably living with his immediate family in the U.S. in this timeline.

Quincy

Quincy always felt a little out of place in either gender, but they were first able to articulate that feeling as wanting to use they/them pronouns after talking to Vincent about his home country and learning the pronouns in Mandarin all sounded the same when spoken aloud (and included a gender neutral option), which felt better to them than the different binary pronouns in English.

Ambrose

Ambrose's dad wanted to raise him as the perfect Kennedy-esque daughter, but Ambrose wasn't all that good at the performance of femininity despite trying his hardest. When he told his dad he wanted to transition, his parents were surprisingly supportive -- on the condition that he become the perfect Kennedy-esque son instead, which contributed to his current obsession with becoming the ideal man. They all pretend that he used to have a sister to explain away old family photos.

Beatrix

Beatrix was raised by her Abuela, who is very protective of her ever since she had a mental health scare in high school and almost dropped out. Her Abuela's watchful eye meant she didn't make the typical teenager bad decisions, but she also hasn't really had the opportunity to mess up badly before her senior year at Ardess.

Portia

Portia used to tell Quincy in the conversation after I Hate and I Love that she goes up to the roof to stargaze when she’s really stressed, and likes to feel as if she’s falling up into the night sky. Also, her sister used to struggle with self-harm, which is what leads to that conversation with Quincy on the roof.

I would like to bring your attention to two fundraisers that are near and dear to my heart.

@elhamhamdan-gaza is a young woman trying to survive in Gaza with her family. She was a top student at university until October 2023, when she and her family were displaced from their home in Khan Younis and forced to flee to Rafah. After the invasion in Rafah, they returned to their home in Khan Younis only to find it burned. They had no choice but to live in it. Elham and her family desperately need funds for blankets and clothes, because winter is here and nights in Gaza are very cold right now.

Elham's campaign is very low on funds! So far they have only been able to raise £594 and they desperately need more support. Please donate to them if you are able, and share this post and campaign with as many people as you can.

Secondly, @drdarine is a young woman who is a medical student in Gaza. Despite being displaced and suffering hardships we can only imagine, Darine is continuing her studies and helping out others in the refugee camps and shelters in southern Gaza. Her family consists of seven people, one of them being my friend @dawoudi who is selflessly and unfailingly helping many other families in Gaza by verifying their fundraisers and promoting them on Tumblr. Everyday I see more campaigns added that he has verified, providing an important service to the many families in Gaza that need our help.

Darine's family has been fundraising since February, which is almost ten months! Despite that, they have only been able to raise $5,765, 19% of their goal. Progress on their campaign is extremely slow, often needing to wait multiple days for another donation to come in. We can do better than that.

two-three years before the events of the sumeru arc, cyno is caught snooping into akademiya records, suspicious of their actions. out of fear of what he could uncover, and a need to get him out of the way without anyone questioning it, cyno is forcibly exposed to the contents of a divine knowledge capsule, driven to madness, before being dumped in Aaru village. reports say he often looked out towards the desert, almost longingly with what little sense he had left.

One day, cyno goes missing. the inhabitants of aaru village try to find him, of course, but unfortunate timing means a sandstorm rises and covers his wandering, stumbling tracks. it's concluded that he wandered into the desert that he loved so much, and perished in the sandstorm. he is grieved, the news is sent to his loved ones. but his chapter is closed.

what actually happened was the temple of silence got their hands on him again. feeling both an obligation to cyno, and excitement over the potential of uncovering how to destroy forbidden knowledge, the temple decides to try their hand at healing him...by tampering with his memories of the knowledge.

The idea is good. the execution is not. they are powerful mortals, but mortals all the same. cyno regains some of his lucidity, but traces of the knowledge remains, causing mood swings and lapses into renewed delirium. he is trapped between worlds, between lucidity and dreaming, between the past and the present, between the here and now and the dreams of 500 years ago. the temple recognizes the usefulness of this, and decide that cyno can be their link to forbidden knowledge, to the gods of old.

little do they know that someone else - or the remnants of someone else - has much the same idea.

the memory of rukkhadevata is both saddened and intrigued by the half-delirious general that fades in and out of her world. he barely knows who he is, and yet he is devoted to her in a way that is truly humbling. he clings to the memory of a god that isn't his. i want to save you, he says, and she doesnt have the heart to tell him that she is long past saving.

but he can save someone else. and it feels so much like taking advantage of him, using him, but...but he is her only link to reality. the only one who can still hear her weeping.

and so, rukkhadevata lies. she tells him that she is trapped beneath the akademiya, that she is being used to craft a new god. that she cannot fight back. that she needs him, her general, to free her.

she is a memory that cannot be saved. kusanali, however, is alive and deserves to live. and rukkhadevata will regret this for the remainder of her ever shortening existence...but kusanali could have no better protector.

and cyno could have no better god.
