── .✦ intro
hi, i'm laura, but you can call me lau! i'm from brazil, and my pronouns are she/her. you'll see posts in portuguese here, although a bit rarely. i spend my days here talking about men who run or have ran around in fast cars!
i also have other interests and i LOVE reading, so if you wanna see more content specifically for that, you can go to @phonesewingcatroom !! i mostly talk about the raven cycle but i'll also be talking about all for the game and other books!
this is a safe space for everyone, even if you don't like lando. as long as you're not on my messages or on my inbox saying shit about him, we're good! i also don't like a few drivers, but i won't be in your inbox or messages if you like them. as long as you don't bother me directly with that, i won't do that to you either. this also means rude anons/asks will be deleted and the user will be blocked.
on that note, if you regularly interact with accounts that spread hate, lies and misinformation about me or any other users, you're getting blocked. it's about protecting my peace and creating my own safe space here as well. i'm not a saint, i have done my fair share of bad shit to others. if i've ever done something to you or that affected you, i'm sorry. i'm really sorry. i'm human and i make mistakes, but i'll be putting it up to not repeat those again.
this is an account with a fuckton of rpf. i write driver x driver fanfics too! my writing side blog is @lnfourmemos , and you can find my masterlist on that pinned post too. more info under the cut! ;)
Tumblr media
── .✦ overall f1 info
my favorite driver is, as you can tell, lando norris ! but i also love carlos sainz, franco colapinto, yuki tsunoda, jenson button, kimi antonelli, lewis hamilton, gabriel bortoleto and fernando alonso! i also really like mika häkkinen and ayrton senna! i'm a mclaren fan, but mostly (only) because of lando! whichever team he drives for will be my favorite. i also like williams and sauber (and i'll be forced to like alpine).
i don't like oscar piastri, charles leclerc and max verstappen. i'm not super fond of some others, but you can get the bigger picture with the tier list i'll leave below! i will most definitely have anti posts for those drivers, but as i've said before, if you leave me and my faves alone, i'll leave you and your faves alone. if it really bothers you, either block and/or unfollow me. this is my account and my safe space, too.
for ships.... fuck, it's a lot. i'll leave the ship wheel below, but my faves are carlando and norapinto! i'm also unfortunately very fond of norstappen, even though i only write angst about them, lol.
goes without saying that my favorite race in 2024 was singapore ! it's also one of my favorite tracks, along with são paulo/interlagos & belgium/spa-francorchamps.

So, in Brazilian gambling news, the playing of the betting game Fortune Tiger by children and teenagers inside schools has been growing in the country.
Tumblr media
Despite being banned in Brazil, Jogo do Tigrinho, as it's known in Portuguese, works on betting websites and apps, and went viral on social media this year.
In June, the Children and Consumption program of the Alana Institute denounced Meta to the Public Prosecutor's Office of the State of São Paulo after identifying profiles of young influencers, between the ages of 6 and 17, who promote betting sites by providing access links for children and adolescents. According to Marcelo Lau, coordinator of the MBA in cybersecurity at the Faculdade de Informática e Administração Paulista (FIAP), it is difficult to hold those responsible accountable and punish them. This is because “many of the platforms that offer this type of service do not have any representation in Brazil.”
Even students who benefit from Pé-de-Meia [a program that seeks to encourage students from low-income families to attend high school classes with an yearly amount of R$ 200, or ~US$ 36] are becoming addicted and using the money to place bets online.

U.S. approves sale of 300 air-to-air and anti-radiation missiles for Taiwan's F-16 jets
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 03/02/2023 - 14:00 in Military
Taiwan has received U.S. approval to receive HARM anti-radiation missiles and medium-range AIM-120C-8 air-to-air missiles for its F-16 jets, with which it can hit Chinese aircraft if they threaten its airspace.
The U.S. Department of State approved a possible foreign military sale to the Taipei Office of Economic and Cultural Representation in the United States (TECRO) of F-16 ammunition and related equipment for an estimated cost of $619 million.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the necessary certification by notifying Congress of this possible sale on Wednesday.
Tumblr media
Taiwan requested the purchase of 100 AGM-88B High-Speed Anti-Radiation Missiles (HARM); twenty-three HARM training missiles; 200 Advanced Medium-Range Air-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) AIM-120C-8; four guidance sections AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM; and 26 LAU-129 multifunctional launchers.
Also included are LAU-118A missile launchers with Aircraft Launcher Interface Computer (ALIC); HARM missile containers; Control sections and AIM-120 containers; AIM-120C Captive Air Training Missiles (CATM); simulated air training missiles (DATM), integration and test support and equipment as well as spares and support.
The proposed sale will contribute to the recipient's ability to provide the defense of their airspace, regional security and interoperability with the United States.
Tumblr media
China has been flying regularly with its fighters and bombers near Taiwan's air defense identification zone, in an obvious move to intimidate the small island nation.
Beijing has threatened Taipei with vigorous unification. After Russia conquered a part of southern Ukraine, fears arose that Beijing might be inspired by its former communist "older brother".

Journal Reflection 9: Biographical Analysis
Tumblr media
[Gardens as Cosmic Terrains, Green-wood Cemetery, (2022), Heidi Lau, (medium: Ceramics)]
Heidi Lau is a Chinese artist who grew up with a strict family, while her hometown Macao located on a peninsula in the estuary of the Pearl River Delta in the Southeast of China, it was under a Portuguese colonial settlement from 1557 till 1999. Due to this and her relationship with her family, the artist would often escape from her household to wonder and discover lost ruins, it was an escape from all the commotion and it’s where she captures these lost structures in her work that you could get lost into.
Tumblr media
Heidi Lau creates ceramic vessels reimaging symbolic artefacts and zoomorphic ruins as the materialisation of the archaic and the invisible, she attempts to reenact the non-linearity and materiality of the past, shaping a tactile connection to the disappearing identity of home. Taoist mythology, folk superstition, and Macau’s colonial history are her source materials for her explorations of transcendental homelessness, displacement, and nostalgia as the condition of contemporary existence.
Tumblr media
Furthermore, she explains her artistic process of working with clay as submitting to it and directs her on what to do, as if she’s medium and something is passing through her hands directed by the clay, as well every gentle touch it’s applied to the clay becomes embedded into the material, a continuous layer upon layer, for her clay acts as a conduit for spirits. A reoccurring element in her work is her ghostly hands which she models herself, rather than doing multiple castings of it, so she preserves the natural look that she gives them, their ghostly and elongated features which make it look otherworldly.

Ola, it's me again, Crista! So, for today's blog, we are going to talk about how the fiesta in Borongan was celebrated. But before that, let's get to know its history and origin.
Padul-Ong Festival in Borongan City, Eastern Samar.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Padul-ong Festival is a religious festival in Borongan City in the province of Eastern Samar, Philippines held every September 8th. A weeks-long festival, it is conducted in honor of Nuestra Señora dela Natividad, the patroness of the city. It also coincides with Borongan City Native Pig Lechon Festival.
Tumblr media
History of Padul-ong Festival.
Padul-ong Festival comes from the word padul-ong, which in the Waray language means deliver or transport. As a fiesta, it recalls the miraculous journey of how Nuestra Señora dela Natividad (Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary) became the patroness of Borongan during the Spanish rule.
According to the tale, a woman with a box as luggage was given accommodation in a Portuguese ship heading towards the Philippine archipelago. Sadly, she died in the sea voyage. When the ship arrived in the Philippines, it docked in Punta Maria of the island of Samar. The box that the woman brought was opened and revealed the image of the Blessed Virgin, which was installed in Punta Maria.
Later, stories began to spread that a mysterious lady was taking a bath in Hamorawan spring. She disappeared as soon as people would see her, but she left an unmistakable scent behind. The waters of the spring were reported to have become miraculous and had healing powers. Townsfolk believed that the image of the Lady was performing miracles and it was then decided that the image be brought to Borongan.
According to expert Lope Coles Robredillo, the belief that the spring of Hamorawan has curative potential may date back before the coming of the Spaniards. Furthermore, the story that illustrates how the installation of the image of Mary from Portugal in Borongan Cathedral, the Cathedral Parish of the Nativity of Our Lady, came to be could be an accretion of different origin stories.
During these festivities, I am with my friend, Lau. He accompanied me to that event since it was my first time attending it.
Tumblr media
As a first-timer, I am amazed at the ambiance of every place that we are passing by. The creativity of the colorful decorations really caught my attention. I can vividly see the beauty of each flower in the streets in its different colors, how banderitas are laying up there on each street, the loud music in every corner, and the lights that make the view more appealing.
Tumblr media
I appreciate the people who made it just to make it extra wonderful. I remembered I was asking too many questions because I was too curious about it and how it would go. The excitement I cannot control is visible on my face. There are also many people watching and busy doing their own stuff while waiting for the event to start.
It's kind of tiring, especially since there's a sun and it’s too hot, but I can say it's all worth it. The people who perform are quite amazing in how they represent themselves as they follow the steps in each beat of the music. Their clothes, costumes, and attire, and how they are presentable to the audience, make an impact.
I definitely had fun, and I will consider it one of the most remarkable days that I will never forget. Again, this is Crista, and have a nice day ahead!

Black Butler Characters ranked after their ability to adapt to Modern Japan (with commentary)
16. Viscount of Druitt
- just throw him out of the county, like take him and throw him at the Chinese or ban him to Deshima
- he can chase away the Dutch
- Japanese has many small islands, just put him at one and wait until a tsunami sweeps him away
- England would be so much better without him
15. Undertaker
- he's already an outcasts to the Reapers, so no chance Japan takes him
- would probably famous with the kids
- too much buddhism (actually wrote an essay about his connecting to Buddhism and the dead)
- would at some point conquer Japan with his army of corpses/bizarre dolls
14. Grell Sutcliffe
- too eccentric to survive Japan, sadly
- Japan can't handle her fabulousness
- would probably be famous on Japanese TV
13. Ronald Knox
- it's mainly just the dyed hair
- though his work ethic with slacking off and not sending in his reports in time could make it hard for him to find a job
- he's like the strange foreigner that no one knows what to do with, but they secretly admire him
12. Earl Charles Grey
- he could be like a loyal samurai, but not really sure if he counts as too eccentric
- I find him too eccentric
- naww, he should just stay loyal to the Queen of England
11. Bardroy
- he's the American the Japanese are afraid of
- like he's absolutely going to burn the town
- though firearms were actually introduced to the Japanese by China and the Portuguese
- Japan would probably still receive him well, but yeah... It's definitely his dangerous hobby
10. Finnian
- too loud and too noisy
- but he's kind
- the Japanese wouldn't know what to do with that kindness (or just his energy in general)
9. Mey-Rin
- knows how to be polite and apologises enough times to be mistaken for a Japanese
- she's actually Chinese, so chances are high, she's mistaken for Japanese
- she has actually some traits of Japanese's polite policy
8. Lau
- he's Chinese, he can do it
- he doesn't fall out of the picture, so no one would notice him anyways
- the opium, though, is a problem
- a very big problem
- no, I won't be talking about why Japanese shut themselves up in the Edo time (among various other things, it had something to do with opium)
7. Wolf
- that guy is German, he can work with Japanese (the relationship between Japan and Germany was actually good)
- I just wanted to include him, because I love the German characters
- and I really want to make fun of my country
- because Japanese once thought they could get along with the Germans well, so they built a little Tokyo there
6. Ciel
- he knows how to behave
- probably owns Nintendo and all sweet factories
- Japanese business is flooding under his control
- at the same time he can't shake off his Britishness
- he's absolutely going to detest the language, even when Sebastian and Tanaka teach him
- its the British sarcasm that will eventually kill all his relations with Japanese companies
5. Sebastian Michaelis
- i didn't want to rank him that high, buuut...
- he would actually make a good Japanese
- the bowing
- the politeness
- the loyality
- but he's a demon and he has proven to be quite eccentric, sooo...
- I would say, he's good at adapting but not good at being Japanese
- he has no nationality
4. Elisabeth Midford
- has actively tried to defy the norms of her society
- makes her a strong character but the Japanese would probably not approve
- she cries too much
- her voice is too high
- but she can fight and would make a good soldier
- probably survives Japan
3. Edward Midford
- respects the rules, knows how to adapt, I would say, he's safe
2. Just the Midfords in general
- like they are all good
- they would settle in Japan and be happy
1. William T. Spears
- the ideal Japanese man
- seriously why is he Britain when it's absolutely obvious that he's Japanese
- like the first time he appears he hands out his business card in the formal Japanese way
- he's always bowing the Japanese way
- he literally has the work ethic of a Japanese businessman and the mentality
- honestly, I want to see him go to Japan in the anime/manga
1. Tanaka
- of course, he's the winner, because he's Japanese
- and there isn't much more to say

AAPI Heritage Month: Cookbooks to Check Out
The Honeysuckle Cookbook: 100 Healthy, Feel-Good Recipes to Live Deliciously by Dzung Lewis
The Honeysuckle Cookbook is stuffed with exciting ideas for easy, approachable, Asian-influenced cooking at home. With 100 recipes, from the breakfast favorites that consistently rate the highest in views on the author's popular YouTube channel (like her Overnight Oats, 6 Ways) to original twists on one-pan and pressure-cooker meals, this book is for those of us who want feel-good meals made healthy, delicious, and quick. Dzung's recipes take the familiar and turns it ever-so-slightly on its head: Marinara sauce gets extra umami with the addition of fish sauce, while mac and cheese becomes more than an out-of-the-box staple when made fresh with kimchi. Lattes get an extra kick from bold Vietnamese coffee and sweet, floral lavender, and quinoa pilaf is mixed with a creamy curry-miso dressing. Dzung also teaches readers how to stretch groceries so they spend a little less money, how to plan meals seasonally, and how to match main courses with sides so plates look impressive and taste great. With quick snack ideas, recipe hacks, foolproof instructions, and genius tips for pretty presentation, The Honeysuckle Cookbook will be the friendly hand busy young cooks need to hold in the kitchen.
Cook Real Hawai'i: A Cookbook by Sheldon Simeon, Garrett Snyder
The story of Hawaiian cooking, by a two-time Top Chef finalist and Fan Favorite, through 100 recipes that embody the beautiful cross-cultural exchange of the islands. Even when he was winning accolades and adulation for his cooking, two-time Top Chef finalist Sheldon Simeon decided to drop what he thought he was supposed to cook as a chef. He dedicated himself instead to the local Hawai‘i food that feeds his ‘ohana—his family and neighbors. With uncomplicated, flavor-forward recipes, he shows us the many cultures that have come to create the cuisine of his beloved home: the native Hawaiian traditions, Japanese influences, Chinese cooking techniques, and dynamic Korean, Portuguese, and Filipino flavors that are closest to his heart. Through stunning photography, poignant stories, and dishes like wok-fried poke, pork dumplings made with biscuit dough, crispy cauliflower katsu, and charred huli-huli chicken slicked with a sweet-savory butter glaze, Cook Real Hawai‘i will bring a true taste of the cookouts, homes, and iconic mom and pop shops of Hawai‘i into your kitchen.
Filipinx: Heritage Recipes from the Diaspora by Angela Dimayuga, Ligaya Mishan, Alex Lau (Photographs)
Filipinx offers 100 deeply personal recipes—many of them dishes that define home for Angela Dimayuga and the more than four million people of Filipino descent in the United States. The book tells the story of how Dimayuga grew up in an immigrant family in northern California, trained in restaurant kitchens in New York City—learning to make everything from bistro fare to Asian-American cuisine—then returned to her roots, discovering in her family’s home cooking the same intense attention to detail and technique she’d found in fine dining. In this book, Dimayuga puts a fresh spin on classics: adobo, perhaps the Filipino dish best known outside the Philippines, is traditionally built on a trinity of soy sauce, vinegar, and garlic—all pantry staples—but add coconut milk, vinegar, and oil, and it turns lush and silky; ribeye steaks bring extra richness to bistek, gilded with butter and a bright splash of lemon and orange juice. These are the punches of flavor and inspired recipes that home cooks have been longing for. My Shanghai: Recipes and Stories from a City on the Water by Betty Liu
Filled with galleries, museums, and gleaming skyscrapers, Shanghai is a modern metropolis and the world’s largest city proper, the home to twenty-four million inhabitants and host to eight million visitors a year. “China’s crown jewel” (Vogue), Shanghai is an up-and-coming food destination, filled with restaurants that specialize in international cuisines, fusion dishes, and chefs on the verge of the next big thing. It is also home to some of the oldest and most flavorful cooking on the planet. Betty Liu, whose family has deep roots in Shanghai and grew up eating homestyle Shanghainese food, provides an enchanting and intimate look at this city and its abundant cuisine. In this sumptuous book, part cookbook, part travelogue, part cultural study, she cuts to the heart of what makes Chinese food Chinese—the people, their stories, and their family traditions. Organized by season, My Shanghai takes us through a year in the Shanghai culinary calendar, with flavorful recipes that go beyond the standard, well-known fare, and stories that illuminate diverse communities and their food rituals. Chinese food is rarely associated with seasonality. Yet as Liu reveals, the way the Shanghainese interact with the seasons is the essence of their cooking: what is on a dinner table is dictated by what is available in the surrounding waters and fields. Live seafood, fresh meat, and ripe vegetables and fruits are used in harmony with spices to create a variety of refined dishes all through the year.

hi shannon 💫☁️ okay so since we got talking abt catholicism ive had smth on my mind for forever now and i just wanted to talk abt it like id call my family "secularly religious" because like we dont rly practice the faith beyond my grandparents generation anymore but i was still baptized and i did my communion and confirmation and all and ive got a complex relationship with god and faith and stuff the usual but a part of me kinda still wants to baptize my potential children and give them baptismal names like the rest of my family. oh sidenote my mom didnt give me a first official baptismal name but she on accident gave my younger brother one and im kinda sad about that for some reason like ugh i think its so cool to have those yknow! anyways thank you for letting me like brabble in your inbox ^-^!
hi lau!! 💫 you can always talk in my inbox, i'm literally so fascinated by how different people live their lives + the experiences they have so i'm always interested !
I totally understand all of your above, my relationship to religion is incredibly complex too. my mum is a portuguese catholic + my dad is jewish, so i was raised in an interfaith house. I guess judaism always took the lead because my dad has a much stronger cultural connection to jewish practices than my mum does to catholic ones? we celebrated both sets of holidays but jewish holidays were way more lavish. I wasn't baptised and I didn't have an official bat mitzvah because my parents wanted me to be able to make my own choices + not force a religion on me. these days I consider myself agnostic, but i'm really interested in judeo-christian theology and i still celebrate jewish holidays. i have vague plans of doing an official conversion to judaism one day because I'm a patrilineal jew (which is...a tricky position and status lol) and I really want my children to be considered jewish. but then I'd never want my son to have a bris, just for my own moral reasons? it's complex!
anyway thank you for letting me ramble back, I hope you have a lovely day!! <3
