[Attached: A photo of Richard M with Grant from the dinner from a news site]
I hope he wasn't too uncouth or a complete arse.
Last night was amazing. Hope you weren't too tired today.

I feel like every time I drive at night there’s someone driving with their high beams on. And I’m not even talking about headlights that are bright LEDs, I mean actual high beams. Either someone driving at me and blinding me, or someone driving behind me and retina blasting me via mirror reflection and lighting up my whole car cabin, making it hard to see the road in front of me.
And don’t even get me started on the number of people driving with their headlights off because they think their Daytime Running Lights on and they think it’s enough? But then their tail lights aren’t on and you almost run into them because they’re driving a black car.
I’m starting to believe that it’s a detriment to society that we allow people to “learn” to drive from their parents. Like if their parents are shit drivers and don’t know about cars and don’t explain how to use their cars, we perpetuate the problem. Genuinely starting to think we should move towards driving schools like Japan in order to get a license, not just memorizing road signs and then being released onto the road.
“I failed my permit test 5 times and my driving test 3 times before getting my license hehe” you should not be driving. Honestly.
And I understand this also leads to discussions of public transit (more people who don’t like driving and don’t want to should have the option of a robust and reliable network of bus and rail) and privilege (driving schools cost money, not everyone has parents who can teach them) but like … that’s for another post.

Inspector Morley, Late of Scotland Yard, Investigates: The Case of the Scarlet Letters (1.3, WGN-TV, 1952)
"Mr. Mullins, I have in my possession sixty-eight letters, none of which has begun to outlive its usefulness. I'm quite prepared to admit that blackmail is risky, but then murder has its disadvantages too - that is why I gave up murder."
#inspector morley late of scotland yard investigates#inspector morley late of scotland yard#(there's some confusion about the correct title of this series; it appears onscreen with 'investigates' but many online sources omit the#final word and it wouldn't be unique in having a title screen that differed slightly from the official name of the show; either way it's a#hell of an unwieldy name for your programme.....)#classic tv#1952#john gilling#victor m. gover#tod slaughter#patrick barr#tucker mcguire#leonard sharp#another rediscovered gem made available by the good folks at kaleidoscope#oof. ok. so the story of Inspector Morley is complicated and still semi mysterious (the show is 70 years old after all‚ there's precious#little surviving documentation). as far as it goes‚ this was a UK production intended for sale to the BBC (there existing no independent tv#company in 1952). the beeb‚ for whatever reason‚ passed on the series. 13 episodes had been made and of these about seven were cobbled#together into feature films to recoup some of the costs; those survived and saw occasional outings on rainy afternoon tv schedules here#it was thought that the remainder were junked‚ but research (not my own i hasten to add) has revealed that the whole series was in fact sol#to the US where it was shown on WGN (a Chicago based station i believe). when kaleidoscope recovered this particular episode some 6 or 7#years ago‚ it was thought to be the sole surviving episode‚ at least in its original format (ie. not edited into a feature). actually it#sounds like they might all exist and a few are even on youtube (including this one). this is very early detective tv and it shows its age#not just in its ropey visuals (it's all quite soft and fuzzy) but in its very old fashioned shape and design‚ which is closer to mid#century film than what television would shortly become. that sensation is only furthered by the presence of the immortal Tod Slaughter‚ a#bastion of early british cinema and one of the first horror icons the uk ever produced. unusually‚ it seems like he starred in most (if not#all) of the episodes of the series; unusual bc he plays the villain‚ opposite Barr's staunch ex copper Morley. having a recurring villain#must certainly have helped when editing the shows into films for cinema release but it was quite a strange choice for tv#tho perhaps a set cast reduced costs (this was clearly a budget production‚ tho it does feature some impressive early location shooting)#Slaughter is great fun‚ in full scenery chewing mode as the wicked and unrepentant mastermind behind all sorts of crimes#Barr even has personal beef with him‚ though it would require seeing the other eps to fully understand it i suspect

#horizon forbidden west#hfw#hfw photomode#aloy#passing the cursed thursday midday hour by dumping a few pics on here#(last hour before i need to leave for work which usually means i can't really get started on something big)#(but also need to pass some time)#this lighting was a stroke of luck#you know how the time of day is fixed after completing death's door#eternal late afternoon/early evening light until you finished dying lands#i tend to play burning blooms with that lighting and while it does the job admirably well#it's also frustrating at some angles because sometimes i'd like a bit of a change#(i mean generally fixed time of day is okay while you're playing because you quickly forget about the light not changing)#(but i already hated it in hzd for the obvious (photo mode) reasons)#(gprime fixed daytime area my beloathed)#(and honestly more often than not it improves the actual gameplay because it usually adds cinematic value)#(BUT I WANT TO TAKE PICS WHERE YOU CAN ACTUALLY SEE FACES)#anyway.#halfway through burning blooms this time i decided i'd abandon talanah for the time being#(like aloy does)#because i was already a little nauseous after merely three pics#and i wanted to try different lighting with the next batch anyway#so i went into cauldron mu instead#which caused an interesting overlay of effects#you always exit cauldron mu into the sunset for maximum scrounger effect#and with fixed time of day from dying lands still active#the general time of the game moved back a couple of minutes#so instead of early evening it became late evening and stayed that way#so all the cutscenes were a little darker than usual#and cinnabar sands was helpfully eternally on fire

Man. Unemployment has me experiencing imposter syndrome and second guessing my skills. Moving has me second guessing my relationships. And the two combined just had me second guessing all my life choices. I feel quite off this week and really depressed methinks. I don't feel like doing anything and I know I need to do something to get me out of this funk. I'm very much in a vicious circle rn.
