October 5, 1956

An interesting week of philosophical discussion contrasting the values of optimistically living in the moment vs cynically hyperfixating on the negative aspects of the future. The kids loved it.

October 7, 1956

I don’t think I’ve ever seen time get played with like this in a comic this old. Schulz’s willingness to experiment like this really does a good job both keeping the strip feeling fresh and (somewhat) modern decades later.

Oh come on! “He’s always felt that nobody really liked me either!” is RIGHT THERE!

October 16, 1956

These kind of “kids say the darndest things” strips are starting to feel a bit out of place. For one thing most of the cast feels a bit too old these days to be having these sorts of wacky misconceptions. Second, most of this kind of humor has now been offloaded onto Lucy and Linus with Charlie Brown acting as the mature straight man. So when Charlie Brown suddenly doesn't know how pants work it feels a tad out of character. 

It kind of explains why Schulz kept introducing very small children into the cast even very late into it’s run. Eventually a character just has too much history and experience for these kind of jokes to feel authentic anymore.

First off, I appreciate that pumpkin. 

Second, Charlie Brown’s dad is either a massive asshole or having financial issues in a very concerning way.

Third, I think Shulz should have leaned more into Shermy being the neighborhood rich kid. Maybe not Richie Rich levels of wealth but giving him some more explicit “my dad makes 6-figures” energy could have been a fun gimmick and justified keeping him around.

Now onto the dogs we have owned:

Rambo: Killed by a vengeful taxi driver who drove over him twice (he had a knack for attacking anyone who got close to our childhood home) after 6 years of living with us (age unknown, we adopted him)

Lassy: Poisoned by a neighbor at age 2, we were never sure who.

Puppy: Ran over, barely a year old.

Puppy II: Stolen, barely 6 months old

Sasha: Ran over, died on the vet, 4 years old.

Tito: Ran away to die somewhere unknown after living with us for 5 years (he was an old street mutt who one day came home and adopted himself, in his final days we had to force him back inside)

Toto: Died of skin cancer after reaching 15 years of age.

Lulu: Died of liver sickness after 14 years of age

Pacho: Put to sleep after total renal failure, lived to be 18 years old.

Amy: Currently 5 years old

Charlie: An adopted mutt we found rummaging in our trash, she should be around 4 months old now.

We have had much better luck with our dogs, especially the last ones who lived long lives and more or less met natural deaths, hopefully Charlie and Amy follow on Pacho’s example and both reach the two digits of age.

wow, two fics in the same day!!! awesome ^_^ (this one is dedicated to a few people i did a roleplay with in flicker roleplay, so yeah!! i was both charlie and alab)

anyways, tw: mentions of bl00d, g0r3, g7ns, etc..

lassi was the nicest person throughout the entire game! but they weren't the most innocent either.

as charlie fell to the ground, bleeding out, trey (derogatory) had put away the gun. "gosh.. i'm so fucking sorry." they cursed under their breath. lassi smiled widely as dan stared in shock, looking at lassi. he gained suspicion of the way she smiled right after trey just blew charlie's brains out.. "who's taking the bodies?" trey asked, bringing out the bags. "me, me!" lassi jumped up and down, desperate to take his body down to the basement for some reason. trey nodded as they stuffed the body into the bag, and ordered dan to clean up the blood and brain matter while lassi brang the body to the basement. they both agreed and started cleaning the place. after a few minutes of cleaning and interacting with eachother, a loud 'ahem' was heard from the speaker. they all listened in to what the 'narrator' had to say. "alright, people.. today, we have a special guest joining us today!" well they seemed excited.. but why? no one else was, and it probably couldn't have been somebody important. "please welcome our new guest.. drumroll please!" a drumroll sound effect played. even though this was a whole ass death game, there is no way that some parts can NOT be funny. footsteps were heard as they turned to the door. there they were.. the others did not recognize who this was. why would they be so special? it seemed that the person had baggy jeans with shoes that seemed a bit.. off???? they wore a shirt that had the words 'I [heart] You'. their hairstyle was fluffy and parted, one side looking swept away to seperate from the other. there was nothing special about this person. "meet alab! say hi to them." the 'narrator' exclaimed, yet deadpan and stern when demanding they say hi to them. trey smiled and waved to alab. lassi didn't smile, wave, say hi or anything. dan got up to greet the shorter person, shaking their hand with excitement and introducing himself. alab got a warm enough welcome. but then, as soon as alab got comfortable enough, trey said "welcome to a death game." that immediately broke alab's heart, making them confused and their comfort die down almost instantly. "..what do you mean?" they questioned, their voice trembling. it was obvious they were scared. "hey hey, don't tell him yet! wait for the game to REALLY start." the 'narrator' said, worrying alab more. "are we gonna die here?!" they panicked. "no no no! you're not gonna die." lassi raised an eyebrow at the 'narrator's line, showing an expression of 'how sure are you about that?' alab looked at lassi, who immediately found out what their expression meant. their eyes pleaded and begged to not get killed, but lassi's eyes had 'no mercy' written aaall over them. then, dan got up to grab alab by the arm. they seemed surprised, but went along with it as they were brought to the bedroom. (istfg if anyone makes a joke out of this,,) he sat alab down, also sitting down next to them. "uhh.." just incase, dan closed the door and locked it. he then sat back down, looking over to them. "..are you dan?" they questioned as he nodded. "it's nice to meet you." they shook hands. "but uh.. try not to make any enemies. this place is a death trap with a murderer in here." wow, that really helped alab's anxiety. they panicked a bit, but managed to calm down because of dan's tactics. they moved on from that. "well.. who stood in the game the longest?" "me, lassi, and trey." he answered almost in the middle of alab's sentence. "..oh." they nodded. the two have formed an alliance and come to good terms, finally opening the door. "did you two lovebirds make out or some shit?" lassi joked, trey giggling after. "shut up.." alab mumbled, dan looking over to him as if they were a maniac.
