Weirdly enough, no! I didn't see Winning Time until after I started getting big on Bird and Magic, because I remember being excited thinking there was a show that was actually touching on this thing I was deeply interested in, but I was also scared to watch it because I wasn't sure if it would live up to what I wanted it to be.

Because at that point I had seen Courtship of Rivals, which had hit me like a gut punch and an epiphany. I was in love with it, i felt like it was a perfectly told documentary that felt like a Hollywood story/sports manga and I really really wanted to see someone adapt it creatively. I had even started my comic about them and then paused working on it when I finally watched Winning Time bc I felt like "well, they're telling the story I want to tell, so what's the point of me doing it"

... then it got canceled lol

Actually!!!!! Winning Time did tangentially get me started, bc I was really into Bo Burnham when Inside came out, and then there was news that he was cast to play Larry Bird in Winning Time (and then he got replaced :c ), which made me think of Larry, which led me to watch his mixtape, which got me starry eyed, and the mixtape ended with Magic Johnson calling Larry Bird his "friend forever," which made me curious about how they even became friends, which led me to a clip from Courtship of Rivals, which led me to the full documentary, and now here we are
