Name: I like to go by Margo on the internet! I got the idea for the name when Rebecca Sugar said she based the character of Lapis Lazuli in SU off of a character for a comic she never finished when she was younger. Anyways, I heard that and thought, ‘hm, that’s a nice name! That’s what I’ll call myself now!’

Star Sign: Taurus

Gender: Female, but I have questioned it before and sometimes think demigirl. For some reason I really like it/ find it amusing if people think I’m a guy when I dress more androgynously. (It’s happened twice)

Height: I’m not entirely sure, but around average I would say. I haven’t measured myself in awhile.

Sexuality: Lesbian, I think. But I’m also demi/grayromantic as well as demi/graysexual, so it’s kinda hard to tell, seeing as I don’t actually feel attraction that often.

What was your coolest Halloween costume: Once I dressed up as Pearl from SU, and more specifically, Pearl from Last One out of Beach City, with the leather jacket and everything. The first trick-or-treaters I ran into were all like: “Omg, are you Pearl!!??” Made. My. Fuckin. Day.

What’s your favorite 90′s TV shows: Don’t watch 90′s TV shows, so I don’t have one.

I borrowed my composition/structure from this and the Mona Lisa. It's Ginevra Benci by Leonardo, and I was tremendously pleased with myself when I realized how he did the lighting. I've probably loved this since I was 18 or so, and it has spent years at a time being a desktop wallpaper for me. I don't sew well, so I haven't tried recreating her dress, but there's a fair bit of online discussion on approaches. It's very fancy, and Leonardo really took a lot of care with her clothes so it's good reference. See, she's not sitting outside, despite the pretty scenery. She's at home, in a room with two windows facing each other, and she's between them. (Not outside, not ruining her fancy clothes and delicate fabrics). And the sunny window has curtains so the light from it isn't glaring and shiny. This is perfect for a Buffyverse vampire, since they burn in direct sun but can tolerate some light. This is a (very early) oil painting, and it predates all of what we'd call artificial pigments. It also predates commercial paint. You had 2 choices for blue pigments- grind up some expensive lapis lazuli or get your hands on a chromium blue. Grind up used advisedly, you had to grind your colorful rocks to be fine enough for paint. Greens, you also had two choices, a chromium green from malachite or a cheaper green earth/terre vert. Both kinds of chromium colors would try to poison you, and Leonardo knew this. Then there were a bunch of different iron compounds that wouldn't poison you for the various shades of red, orange, yellow and brown. And you could "cook" them to get stronger reds. You could also get red and white from lead, but again, poison and they knew it. Once you had ground up rock, you could make it into the sort of paint you needed. Watercolor was cheap to make, and could be reused. Tempera/egg paint was the basic opaque paint, but it dried fast and couldn't be reused. Oil was very new technology and could be annoying about drying, but it gave you more time to work. Fresco had weird chemistry and tricky daily prep, but worked for big murals.
