A6, selfended with the fanart placed on the “endpapers”. Bookcloth is silver & red, with winter soldier arm lines and the title printed on -the silver didn’t take the printing well but I think it looks ok! And I like the faded-looking title, it fits with the fic. the star on the cover is a cutout.

this is one of my all-time favourite winter soldier fics, wherein Bucky finds himself liberating and looking after a child created as an experiment with his DNA. the child is brainwashed (and beloved Bucky to be his dad) but through well-meaning but perhaps inadequate caretaking & affection they become a family unit. highly recommended!

before i knew what "no beta we die like xyz" on ao3 meant i saw this on one of the fanfics from jnh for the first time. it said "no beta, we die like lanyon" and oh boy, i loved that sentence. i literally said it to myself everytime i entered my chem class in school. no beta, we die like lanyon *opens a chemistry notebook to do homework*

The Changeling of Westminster: Intro to Dr.Jekyll/Mr.Hyde

Age: 58

Species: Human

Pronouns: He/Him

Description: Jekyll is tall, wears glasses, with dark thinning sideburns, and wide hands. Hyde is short, with long dark brown hair, acid green eyes, bulldog faced, snub nosed, with an underbite. Has long teeth, course, hairy hands, and spindly sharp nailed fingers. Everyone finds him deeply off putting and hates him on sight.

Backstory:

Dr.Henry Jekyll was from a well to do, good Christian upper class medical family. At Oxford he met Ian Griffin, including Hastie Lanyon, Gabriel Utterson, Abraham Van Helsing, Moreau, and Robur. Away from his restrictive home, Jekyll became known for practicing dark magic, heavy drinking, fighting, and beginning a relationship with Ian. On an expedition to the arctic Jekyll and Ian met Victor Frankenstein’s homunculus. Afterwards Jekyll went on the straight an narrow, cutting out his "bad associations", and becoming a respected member of the community. After years of no contact Ian blackmailed him into helping him hide the changeling, Henry, left in place of his nephew. At twelve Henry became Jekyll's apprentice. By then Jekyll had begun cracking under the pressure society and projected his issues onto Henry. Around this time he created the serum that turned him into his alter ego, Edward Hyde. Hyde has no inhibitions, is aggressive, violent, emotionally volatile, opinionated, brutally honest, promiscuous, openly gay, and practices outlawed magic. Jekyll uses Hyde as an excuse to not take responsibility for his actions. As the plot unfolds he turns into Hyde to stalk Henry's activity across London.

On the sliding scale of The Glass Scientists to the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, my version of Jekyll and Hyde is somewhere in the middle. He's not a toothless Tumblr sexyman, but he doesn't go as far the Alan Moore version. His repressed traits are a mix of genuinely awful and only evil by Victorian standards. If anything he's more comparable to Clay Puppington from Moral Orel, a repressed, hypocritical and kind of pathetic patriarch who psychologically fucks up the wide eyed hero who idolizes him.

In this AU, Hyde does not exist, this is because instead of Jekyll performing the experiment, Emerie does! I am a new writer, this is actually my first story in wattpad, i don't like Ao3 but if this does well enough, i will concede and put it on there! This will be very formal and I will try to be as descriptive as possible, I am going for Victorian society but more....accepting (of LGBTQ individuals) I HAVE CHANGED THE AGES OF THE CHARACTERS A BIT; EMERIE/JACINTA IS 15, JEKYLL IS 37, LANYON IS 38, JASPER IS 17!!!! (very off cannon, i am bad at this 😔)

Griffin and Jekyll’s first meeting

University lore time!

Jekyll and Griffin originally met each other in University (quite literally) bumping into each other in the school halls before discovering later that day that they’re classmates

Eventually they get to know each other and learn that they’re both into the strange/unusual side of science and alchemy so they start studying their special interests together outside of class

Problem is Lanyon (who is the reason Jekyll can study at this Uni in the first place and has been his best friend since they were young children) doesn’t like Griffin, and especially doesn’t like Griffin interacting with Jekyll in any capacity even if he’s ‘polite’ about it.

It’s a ‘Lanyon has a big old crush on Jekyll and is jealous of Griffin taking up his attention’ kind of deal if that wasn’t obvious eheh

Griffin eventually (unwillingly) drops out before he can finish his degree leaving poor Jekyll heartbroken without so much as a goodbye letter before they reunited again about 20-ish years later which is about when most of my drawings I do with Jekyll and Griffin are set.
