my last drop of the year is here! here’s what’s available:
𖦹 4 new shrimp mini acrylic charms
𖦹 spotted lanternfly and octopus enrichment shaker charms
𖦹 isopod phone charm restock including one new panda king isopod (and a springtail!)
𖦹 raccoon and bowerbird sticker restocks
this year has been a huge success thanks to all of you! when i was in middle a school, I looked up to SOOOO many different merch designer/convention artists but didn’t know how I could make that work. this spring i started designing stickers on a whim (thanks, brood x cicadas) and now I’m here! and I’m so thankful. i love you bug people and fish people.

Pyrops gunji - Pyrops effusus - Pyrops whiteheadi - Pyrops synavei
These bugs don't have common names but if I were in charge of naming them I would call the first one the Starry Lanternfly :]

Spotted lanternflies could cost NYS grape industry millions
Researchers estimate that, if left unchecked, the spotted lanternfly – which decimated vineyards in Pennsylvania when it arrived in 2014 – could cause significant economic losses to the New York state grape industry. Using data from two key regions – the Lake Erie region, the largest Concord grape producer in the world, and the Finger Lakes region, the largest wine producer in the state – researchers found that losses could reach $1.5 million, $4 million and $8.8 million in the first, second and third years of infestation, respectively. The study, published Jan. 20 in the Journal of Integrated Pest Management, underscores the importance of proactive management and preparedness, as well as continued research on best practices for controlling the pest. “It might seem like spotted lanternfly is not as big a problem as it seemed a few years ago,” said first author Allan Pinto, an agricultural economist for New York State Integrated Pest Management (NYSIPM) in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University. “This reminds people: It might not be bad if you do something, but if you don’t, it could be really bad.”

7 Sinful Bugs Crowdfunding Campaign
Today is a bit of a different announcement- and one I have been both super excited and very anxious about.
I Will Be Launching My First Kickstart!
This will be a collection of 7 enamel pin designs based off the 7 deadly sins: wrath, sloth, lust, envy, greed and gluttony.
A direct opposite to the Biblically Accurate Bugs- which are still in the works! (And will be stretch goals for the campaign)
This kickstarter will launch on March 18th, as part of a collaborative collection titled Oddities and Obscura with several other artists starting their own projects. I will also be partnering with one particular artist- but I will reveal that closer to the time ;)
For now you can sign up to get emails when the campaign launches, as well as get news when there's any kind of announcement about the project.
Spreading this around and sharing would be greatly appreciated <3 It is my first ever crowdfunding campaigns so any little like or share or whispering to your friend will make a world of difference.
Stay tuned for more info being revealed on each design in the coming weeks!
Link to the campaign in source!

Penthicodes farinosus is a lovely lanternfly I saw in Sarawak, Malaysia. its specific name means “floury,” in reference to the white waxy bloom on its forewings and thorax. lanternflies never disappoint with their color schemes, and the individuals I saw contrasted egg yolk eyes with a deep teal bar on their wings.

what’s more, I got to see one of my favorite insect interactions later that night. most of you might have heard of ants eating honeydew from aphids, but all sap-drinking hemipterans excrete excess sugar, and many different animals will feed on it! in this case, a moth sat behind a Penthicodes, waiting to catch droplets of honeydew on its tongue.

Going to be polishing up my list of businesses to send my Faire direct link to in the coming days and weeks, but just wanted to celebrate here that I have successfully moved the majority of my item listings to Faire marketplace after months of indecision and general life busy-ness. If anyone has a local artsy nature or stationery store that you think my items would fit in with, please let me know. And if you are a retail person reading this, here’s my Faire Direct link so we both save on fees 😉
All items pictured are currently in stock!

People often ask me about my favorite bug and honestly it's hard to choose favorites bc all bugs are so good, but I do have a favorite: lanternflies! Here is one species, Pyrops candelaria from southeast Asia. I love their long snouts and vibrant colors :]

Should I draw more lanternflies? What is your favorite bug?
