한국어를 연습은 더 필요 있어요… 매일 공부하는데 한국어를 잘 못해요. ‘이거 어려워요...’ 이런 생각해요. Part of me is really tired of studying and feeling like I am not getting any better.

사실 연습은 더 하고 싶어요. (Torn between wanting to do more, feeling like I need to do more, and also feeling really discouraged by how little growth I see in my abilities.) 저는 YouTube를 보면서 “이게 연습을 좋다” 라고 그런데 그것은 사실이 아니에요. YouTube를 재미있는데 그것 안 공부해요.

스트레이키즈의 YouTube를 너무 너무 재미있어요. Of course I enjoy it, it’s a lot of fun. 맞아잖아~~ 하지만 I need to study seriously.

"why language?"

because no matter how powerless and helpless you may feel in life, you can always control what you say. you can make every word count for something. on your dimmest days, you can hear things that change your heart, or words that change your mind. and i believe that there is power in that.

that same power, the one that every one of us holds, lies within ourselves. dancing on our tongues to deliver, and through our ears it is received.

and sure, language is limited. with every sentence we speak, we rely heavily on nuance and feeling. however, i like to think that there is no better reassurance than finally finding the right words. for it is only through language that we can carefully construct the feelings we can't convey into a tangible understanding. hey, even with just a few words, you can connect with people from an entirely different way of life !

and when you learn a new language? maybe it's just me, but i feel that with every grammar structure i learn, my mind (and heart) open up a bit more. i mean, to be able to think about a new way that you can express your thoughts? It really changes your view on things, even if it is a minuscule change in the grand scheme of the days and years in which we label our lives.

Trilingual(+) with no idea what language learning goals to set for 2025 and/or no particular desire to set any? With various degrees in range of expression/accuracy in your L1-L3 and level discrepancies across the 4 skills, vocab and grammar?

Consider changing up your factory settings and shifting them after a certain time period (3, 4, 6 months...) or establish them as your go-to default for the year at large.

L1 - listening to music/podcasts & hobbies

L2 - reading/writing (including fanfiction, device language, etc.)

L3 - watching videos/films/series (and/or making them, if that's your thing)

Jp learners, how do you guys go about using a notebook? How do you practice writing? I bought a new notebook recently to practice writing in Japanese, but I don't really know how to start. I can already output a little digitally and recognize a fair ammount of kanji, but I've never really taken notes before.

I do immersion learning, so I'm thinking of attempting like, a semi daily diary for writing simple stuff? Idk I'd like to hear what other people are doing for writing practice!

j’étais au concert de whitechapel. c’était la toute première fois que je les ai vus sur scène. même si le concert n’était pas plein, l’atmosphère était chaud, les gens étaient vraiement excités. le concert était génial, je me suis sentie si heureuse après, incroyable.

peut-être je vous parle un peu du groupe whitechapel. c’est un groupe deathcore américain, mais leur son a vraiement évolué, le chanteur a même déjà chanté clean. ils ont sorti leur premier album en 2007 et cette année ils ont sorti leur nouveau album “hymns in dissonance”,JE SUIS OBSÉDÉE je vous jure, c’est un album de ouff vraiement. je vous le recommende à 100%.

November 8th Journal

Looking through my to-do lists this month, I'm realizing that part of the reason why I'm not able to cross things off my list so easily is because the points I add to my list are fairly ambiguous and don't have a clear finish point. For instance, when I would write "learn binary trees on Python"; well what does that mean? Having actual actionable and completable items on my to-do list helps to better set daily goals for myself as well as to actually complete those goals. It often get intimidated seeing such large tasks that I didn't know how to approach so breaking those down for myself has made a world's difference. Yes, yes I'm a yapper.
