So, check this out!
After Shriv Suurgav was in the concept art for the Mandalorian, I was super excited because it made a connection to the book Shadow of the Sith. In the book it explains that Shriv is deep inside the New Republic machine, but that Lando Calrissian doesn't know exactly what he does, just that he is useful for digging up information.
As per Battlefront 2's second campaign 29 years later after the Battle of Jakku, Shriv Suurgav is a part of the Resistance. He is also in the book Resistance Reborn, and canon knows Poe Dameron as well as Shriv being at Leia's side from the beginning and going on adventures with Zay once Iden dies.
My point is, what if Poe and Shriv hung out a lot together. Maybe he was also a squadron leader for the New Republic Defense Fleet. He had his own Squad, Danger Squadron, and later Inferno Squadron, so why not keep doing what he was doing?
In this case, I imagine Shriv gets just as fed up as Poe with the whole "not taking the threat of the First Order seriously thing," and I want to think that maybe they bailed together to join up with Leia. Maybe it was a whole ordeal and Shriv rallied behind him, tried to convince others, them snarking and sassing each other goodnaturedly along the way.
Yes, I plan to write a fic about them one day, can you tell?
Yes, it may contain smut.
No, I am not sorry.

It suddenly becomes apparent that Calrissian is under the influence of the Empire, as he leads the group into a room where none other than Darth Vader himself greets them. Given that Calrissian had plenty of opportunities to warn the group about the Empire's arrival, he did nothing, choosing his cushy job over his ties with Solo. While he eventually makes up for his treachery, it remains a very dastardly and unsympathetic act of betrayal.
Excuse me? Did you even watch the movie? He had a fucking city full of people effectively being held hostage by the Empire! Perhaps he was wrong in assuming the Empire would actually leave them alone, but a “cushy job” is a fucking stupid take on this!

If you were to put every major Star Wars character together in one room
(This post ignores the existence of the sequel trilogy)
So, Palpatine is a scarily competent, terrifyingly powerful villain, but do you know what I love about him? He’s so terrible to people that every major Star Wars character, be they hero or villain, hates him by the end of their lifetime. Sure, most of his life, ol’ Skeevy Sheev managed to avoid people discovering his true nature before he’d finished using them for whatever purpose he had in mind. But what would happen if all the characters knew the truth?
Imagine if the Force or some other powerful mechanism managed to pull every major Star Wars character from the timeline together in one room, immediately after their deaths. They’ve all played their parts life already and become one with the Force, but the Force has one more task for them, and deposits them all, unceremoniously, in the same place. This is a lot of heroes and villains in one spot. As they start scanning the room around them in confusion and shock, they begin to note many friends they lost, but also enemies whose presence makes them itch for a fight. But then, inevitably, each character realizes they are in the same room as thEE Darth Sidious, aka Emperor Palpatine—and that’s all it takes for them to wordlessly decide, as one, to rush him first. I mean, everyone has a grudge with him, by the time of their death. Everyone:
Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader: While he switched to the Light Side right before death, he’s still pretty dang Dark-susceptible, despite his remorse. (And this man takes everything personally.) So, as he looks around, only to see tons of people he’d been on opposite sides of a war from, once upon a time, his temper begins to rise. Maul… Dooku… and ugh, that ragamuffin smuggler who seems to have a thing for his daughter… but then he sees Palpatine. The old wrinkled prune who he was forced to work for for decades, who destroyed his life and nearly killed his son, who Anakin/Vader literally just thought he’d killed. Anakin rushes him in a rage on the spot, no questions asked.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Now, of course, Obi-Wan justifies everything with perfectly justifiable Jedi reasons—Sidious is a Sith Lord, the archenemy of the Jedi, and one who has taken over the galaxy and caused irreparable harm to billions of life-forms. He obviously should, strategically, not be left living any longer than can be helped. But yet… Obi-Wan truly joins the fight to kill Palpatine because of what he did to the Jedi and to his family compatriots. All of Obi-Wan’s “infinite sadness” can be traced back to him, after all.
Ahsoka Tano: She may not have known the full story, but she saw the results—Anakin became Darth Vader under Sidious’s thrall. She’s quite annoyed, since she could have sworn the sleemo had already been dealt with, years ago—but she, too, won’t ask questions if she has a chance to take him down while he’s still breathing. Palpatine is going down.
Padmé Amidala: She lived long enough to see Palpatine proclaim himself Emperor, at the very least, though she didn’t see the horrible results. But seeing everyone else’s murderous reactions—especially Anakin’s—she figures they have a good reason and gets her blaster at the ready.
Rex: This whole situation reeks of “Jedi business” shavit to him, but he won’t ever miss an opportunity to fire at the Emperor.
(Any other clone who lived past Order 66 in possession of their right mind, for that matter: It’s the Emperor! Attack!)
Count Yan Dooku/Darth Tyrannus: His final moments still ring through his head—Sidious urging Skywalker to kill him. (Skywalker, who Dooku is beginning to realize was probably his replacement.) In an instant, Dooku sets aside all other grudges to prioritize. He wants his old master dead. Nobody likes being replaced, after all, least of all—
Darth Maul. Yes, Maul sees Kenobi, his avowed worst enemy who, in his mind, just killed him, and is about to go at him first—but then he sees the sheer number of people rushing Palpatine instead, and is caught off guard. Despite himself, Maul, for once, sees some hope—a chance to take his old master down like never before. Maul, too, can be practical enough to prioritize just this once. Sidious screwed him over, too, after all—and who is Maul to ignore a chance for sweet revenge, after all.
Qui-Gon Jinn: There’s a lot of people in the room Qui-Gon doesn’t recognize, and most look older—older by far—but as multiple Jedi suddenly launch themselves at Senator Palpatine, all he has to do ask the person he’s pretty sure must be an older version of Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan responds that Palpatine is the Sith Master—and that’s that. Qui-Gon notices Maul joining the fight, and notes that once they’re done, he’ll want to take care of that problem—but he’s a patient enough Jedi to prioritize.
Asajj Ventress: Ventress also wasn’t aware of who the Sith Master was before her death, but she’s close enough to Kenobi as the fight begins to hear his answer to Qui-Gon. Palpatine is Sidious? She joins in immediately. She has an eye on Dooku the whole time, but as a former Sith apprentice, she knows how dangerous the Sith Master must be, and that he must be taken out first.
Mace Windu: You’d better believe he has a bone to pick with Skywalker, once he’s done with Palps—dude cut off his hand—but first things first? He’s got the muthafucka who electrocuted him to kill.
Luke Skywalker: At first, he’s ever so happy to see his father, Obi-Wan, and Yoda again… but seeing the Emperor again immediately brings back his worst memories. Palpatine was the ultimate evil, and regardless of whatever has caused him to live again, he shouldn’t be allowed to continue living any longer than Luke can help it.
Leia Organa: The Emperor? Leia sees him, and she’s pissed. Palpatine was everything she fought against in her young life, until he was defeated—and then she had to spend the rest of her life trying to undo his legacy of terror and despotism. Any living iteration of Palpatine must be killed, no questions asked.
Han Solo: Leia! Hey, Leia, is that the Emperor? I could’ve sworn we defeated the Empire decades ago, what the hell is going on?…. You know what, I always wanted a chance to shoot him in his ugly face. Let’s go for it.
Yoda: Bad news, the Emperor is. Failed to vanquish the Sith before, I have. But miss the opportunity to try again, I must not.
Lando Calrissian: Lando is confused. Who even are most of these people, anyway? But what the hell? He’s always hated the Emperor.
The only major characters I can think of that wouldn’t actively try to kill Palpatine wouldn’t actively stop anyone from killing him, either:
-General Grievous: As far as this guy ever knew, Palpatine was the Supreme Chancellor of the Republic, so why’d he want to protect him? Kenobi’s in the room, and he’d be of a one-track mind to go after him instead—but it’d be a bit hard to do when everyone else is gunning for Palpatine, causing quite the mess.
- Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin: Seeing that the current situation isn’t going in Palpatine’s favor, Tarkin would prefer to sit back and watch everything play out. He’s power-hungry enough that he’d relish in the chance to have the Emperor taken out so he could take over instead.
-Jabba the Hutt: All Jabba cares is that Han Solo and his buddies just massacred his whole operation, killing him, too. Without enough cronies to form a defense, he’d want to get out of there to avoid it happening again. The Emperor is just a side note to him—he never cared who ruled the galaxy as long as he could continue making money.
So, in conclusion:

Pryde death prompt. A ficlet where Pryde dies the same as in the movie, and the writing's focus is on the feelings of Finn and Jannah as they successfully destroy the Steadfast by turning its turbolasers against the ship itself. Or, an alternate version where Finn and Jannah get into the interior of the Steadfast and kill Pryde face-to-face.
(This isn’t quite what you asked for, anon, but I hope you like it!)
The Deaths of Allegiant General Pryde, Part 7: Rebellion
Their first real conversation had been during a temporary calm, and after that it seemed like they were always on the move. First they’d scrambled to cross the raging ocean during a deadly storm to help Finn’s friend, and then they’d regrouped with the rest of the Resistance to plan an assault on Exegol, and now they were on their way to that assault...and Jannah wasn’t sure she’d expressed her thoughts about everything to Finn exactly right. Thinking back on it, it might have come off sounding like she hadn’t had a choice, like she’d been moved to act by something else. Some...Force, beyond her control.
She had always had a choice. She could have chosen to follow orders that day at the Battle of Ansett Island, could have ignored her distaste and fired on the civilians. That would have been safer than trying to convince her entire company to leave the only life they’d ever known. They’d all decided to join her in the end, but there had been no guarantee of that. She might very well have been executed instead for her refusal to fire. Maybe the Force had intervened in some way, maybe the galaxy itself wanted Jannah and her friends to be free...but it wasn’t like Jannah had known for certain that everything would work out at the time.
She wondered if Finn thought her choice had been easy.
She wondered if his had been.
“The signal’s coming from that command ship,” Finn said, sounding as sure of it as if he could actually see the electronic waves that were directing hundreds of Star Destroyers through a maze of gas and rock. Was this the Force, too? Was that energy field similar to electricity? Was electricity part of it? “That’s our drop zone,” Finn concluded.
Jannah nodded. The orbaks could handle far rougher terrain than a Star Destroyer’s surface. And as long as Kylo Ren’s command ship stayed within Exegol’s atmosphere, they’d be able to breathe. They’d just have to work quickly.
The time to talk to Finn about what this all meant—the Force, their defections, everything—would come later. If they survived this.
Only—
“Finn,” Jannah said in a low voice as the Fortitude began its descent, “do you think any other stormtroopers can be saved?”
Finn paused, his hands on his orbak’s reins. “What?” he asked.
“Did you ever—did we ever—think about ways to help them?” Jannah asked. “Did we ever try anything? I was lucky; my whole company defected, so we were able to take our ship. But how often does that sort of opportunity come along?”
Finn’s eyebrows went together. “I was lucky too,” he said. “Poe was there when I needed a way to escape. Back then I didn’t know how to fly anything.” He frowned. “Jannah, I don’t know if the Resistance has even thought about this before. I don’t know if maybe people just thought I was special or something, and that no one else wanted to defect. I...I might have thought that too?” He looked away. “I didn’t know there was anyone else like me. Until I met you.”
Jannah closed her eyes briefly against sudden frustration. “There could be a lot more like us,” she said. “But this mission won’t save them. It’ll kill them.”
“You’re right.” Finn’s fingers curled in his orbak’s hair. “We’ve gone about this whole thing wrong, haven’t we?”
“There’s still time to do something,” piped up a small but fervent voice. Jannah looked around in surprise to find Commander Rose Tico standing a little ways off to the side. “Sorry,” Rose said, embarrassment in her voice. “I overheard.”
“No, no, that’s okay,” Finn said reassuringly, and she relaxed. “What are you thinking?”
“The transmission tower,” Rose said. “It’s powerful enough to send a message to the entire Final Order fleet.”
“Of course!” Jannah said, frustration evaporating in a rush of excitement. “Instead of destroying the tower, we give it a new message!"
“Let me tell Poe there’s been a change of plans,” Finn said, jogging back up to the cockpit.
~
The assault team burst out of the Fortitude and barreled toward the transmission tower. Finn let out a whoop, boasting about his riding skills, and Jannah had to smile.
They had to dismount the closer they got to the tower, and just as they did, a troop carrier unloaded a squad of stormtroopers in bright red armor right in front of them.
“Set to stun!” Jannah yelled.
“You don’t have to fight us!” Finn called to the stormtroopers. “We used to be stormtroopers too! We’re here to help you!”
“We won’t hurt you!” Jannah added. When one of the troopers started to aim for her, she fired an arrow straight into the barrel of their weapon, disabling it.
“Damn,” Finn said admiringly, and Jannah shot him a grin.
They ended up having to stun or otherwise disable all the red-armored stormtroopers, but Jannah was still hopeful their ultimate plan would work. If nothing else, overriding the tower’s signal would stop the Star Destroyers from leaving Exegol space. She and Finn hurried ahead to the transmission tower with Rose and BB-8 while the rest of the crew took up protective positions, guarding against more stormtroopers and passing TIEs.
It took a few tense minutes, but finally Rose cried out “Got it!” She threw a lever, and the transmission tower shuddered as its signal abruptly changed.
Jannah and Finn looked at each other, eyes wide and hopeful. Now all they could do was wait. Jannah put her hand on top of Finn’s and squeezed it tightly, and Finn swallowed, and in that moment Jannah thought she could feel what Finn was feeling: excitement, joy, fear, and—want? Need? Before she could overthink it she was leaning toward him, and he was leaning toward her—and then their lips met, and the battle around them seemed to fade away.
~
Across the Final Order fleet, every holoprojector in every cockpit and training room came to life with an image of the traitor, Finn, and a woman who identified herself as “Jannah, formerly TZ-1719.”
“We were stormtroopers, just like you,” Finn said. “But we never had a choice in that. We were taken as kids, just like you. We have a choice now. You have a choice now. You can stay with the people who kidnapped you and forced you to fight and kill and die for them, or you can rise up and help stop them from doing the same thing to everyone in the galaxy.”
“Did you know that Company 77 defected?” Jannah asked. “Did they tell you, or did they hide it from you? An entire company, that’s got to be embarrassing, right?”
“We know there are more of us out there,” Finn said. “More stormtroopers who want a different life. We’re here to tell you that you can have it! There are more of you than there are of them.”
“Company 77 took the ship we were assigned to. You can take the ship you’re assigned to. They can’t stop you,” Jannah said. “You can stop them.”
“There’s a whole galaxy out there,” Finn said. “You don’t have to conquer it for someone else. You can live in it, for you.”
“You can make friends. You can live at peace. You can find...” Jannah looked at Finn, a real smile spreading across her face, and Finn smiled back and took her hand. “It’s time to tell the First Order, the Final Order, the new Empire, whatever this thing is trying to be, that its time is over,” she concluded. “That now, it’s your time.”
The message repeated several dozen times—long enough for the stormtroopers it inspired to take control of every single ship in the Final Order fleet.
~
In the end, the stormtroopers were evacuated, the Final Order officers were taken into custody, and the Star Destroyers were left to plummet back to the surface of Exegol, where they were then destroyed, along with the planet itself, by their own superlasers. The galaxy fleet brought everyone home, back to the fledgling second reincarnation of the Republic, where all those who renounced their pasts in the First and Final Order were given new lives. Lando Calrissian formed an organization to help former stormtroopers find their families; it wasn’t long before he found his own daughter, who had been taken when she was an infant. Jannah and Finn joined Rey’s new Jedi school, swiftly becoming teachers to the others: former stormtroopers, orphan children rescued from Canto Bight, and other beings from across the galaxy.
The former First and Final Order officers who did not show remorse were tried and convicted for their crimes. Their punishment was not death but lifelong service to the Republic, learning trades and helping those in need. Many thrived in their new, less stressful environments, and some even came to regret their past lives. Others, notably Allegiant General Enric Pryde, who died unexpectedly when a moisture vaporator he was attempting to sabotage blew up in his face, were bitter to the end.
With the emperor gone, a new generation of Jedi dedicated to knowledge and defense, and a more thoughtful, inclusive New Republic, the galaxy entered into an age of peace that lasted for millennia.
And Jannah and Finn lived happily ever after.

Sonny Carisi Star Wars Resistance Pilot AU Headcanons (Featuring BB16 aka “Teeny”)
Some of y’all wanted more so I am obliging. Buckle your seatbelts, this is gonna get overly detailed and super nerdy:
Dominick Carisi, Jr. was born circa 5 ABY, on Cloud City, Bespin. He was nicknamed Sonny to differentiate him from his father, and as the only boy in the family.
He came from a line of Honor Guards for the Baron Administrator (such as Lando Calrissian) and other police-type organizations in the city. His father was part of the Official Bespin Wing Guard/New Republic joint task force to clean up the city of all traces of Imperial Occupation around the time Sonny and his sisters were born.
He grew up on level 51, the lowest level of Cloud City’s upper-end housing district, due to his family’s middle class position and his father’s need to be geographically close to the casinos, shady businesses and the lower-class levels, hence how he picked up the Port Town accent. (Everyone in Port Town on Cloud City now has a Staten Island accent, since so far they don’t exist in Star Wars canon. You’re welcome.)
Initially, Sonny saw himself following in his father’s footsteps in a Guard role. However, the tales of rebel heroes Luke Skywalker and Han Solo inspired Sonny to be a pilot. And he worked his tail off to get into the New Republic Flight Academy.
BB16 was a gift from his sisters at his send-off party before leaving to flight school. Said he needed a proper droid to accompany him on his adventures, he couldn’t just take a kitchen droid and try to retrofit it (But he was scrappy and resourceful and he would have found a way if he had to!) They pooled their allowances together, and he swore he’d find a way to pay them back. They told him protecting and saving the galaxy would be enough.
Teeny, as he nicknamed her, helped ease Sonny’s homesickness tremendously and assimilate with his classmates.
This boy IDOLIZED Poe Dameron, who was probably in his last year/graduating as Sonny came in.
Sonny did really well at flight school, and quickly rose through the ranks of the New Republic Defense Fleet, earning the title of Captain.
However, when the war with the First Order broke out, Sonny instantly signed up for the new Resistance.
He and Teeny now serve as part of Commander Benson’s Squadron. He was hoping to be able to work with Commander Dameron, and was a little disappointed he wouldn’t be getting the chance to.
Benson is from Chandrila (possibly an Alderaan refugee?), meaning she grew up on a more refined planet, leading her squad in that manner. So Sonny’s culture shock/fish-out-of-water quality was still there at the beginning, but thank goodness mustaches were never in fashion in the Galaxy Far Far Away!
Sonny flies an X-70 model Resistance X-Wing that he’s painted yellow and black instead of orange and black, so it matches Teeny. Got him in a bit of hot water with Benson and the squad at first, but it’s come in handy in many a dogfight.

Finn’s Parentage Theories: Legends Edition
Clockwise from upper-middle-right.
Luke Skywalker and Lando Calrissian
Luke and Lando raise a child together, either adopted or through a surrogate. When Kylo destroys the temple, Luke and Lando are devastated when they think their child is killed in the fire. However, all children are brainwashed and recruited by the First Order.
Pros: Uses a fan-favorite ship from Legends, largely thanks to the Marvel Comics. Would give Luke and Lando both a temporary happy ending and a good reason to resign to depression for a while. The timeline would add up and it would give potentially sweet scenes for Finn, Lando, and Luke in Episode IX.
Cons: Would be really depressing. Unlikely for Disney to have an onscreen gay relationship not played for laughs or cheap diversity credit. Would cause some people to view it as Skywalker=naturally good, even though Finn wouldn’t be his biological son.
Nick Rostu
A Force-sensitive warrior from Haruun Kal, Nick Rostu was young at the end of the Clone Wars, but seemed to be about Luke’s age when they met. Regardless, in this universe, Knights of Ren took children while posing as Jedi Knights. Rostu, remembering his friends Mace and Depa, let them, believing their lies that it was for medical purposes. The adults were knocked out, and the Force-sensitive children were stolen to make an elite squad of stormtroopers.
Pros: Allows a Star Wars culture only seen in books to join the screens. Would allow Finn to have a big, loving community to return to as well. Nick’s fighting style is also unique, being a sniper trickster.
Cons: Would come out of nowhere for fans outside of the EU. The timeline wouldn’t add up well. A white director could easily default on stereotypes when designing a culture of jungle-dwellers.
Qu Rahn
Qu Rahn was a young survivor of Order 66, and lived into the early years of the New Republic. With a bit of time displacement, we could change his noble end to be at the hand of Snoke, and his defense of Finn is similar to his defense of Kyle Katarn.
Pros: Would fit with Finn being based off from Kyle Katarn. Adds a connection to one of the most popular EU stories. Would be a way for Finn to get his own lightsaber.
Cons: Could anger Dark Forces fans. Wouldn’t allow closure for Finn’s arc.
Giddean Danu
As one of the signers of the Delegation of 2000, and a founder of the Rebellion, perhaps the Senator of Kuat was imprisoned in a secret Imperial jail, along with his family. His son and his son’s wife had a child after the death of the Emperor, but the Imperial Remnant led by Rae Sloane kept them in captivity and took all Rebellion children to be First Order grunts.
Pros: Reference to the prequels. Allows a new surge of Resistance allies. Some resemblance between Christopher Kirby and John Boyega. Has ties to the Space-Prince Finn theory.
Cons: Would be a bit of a surprise. It’s unlikely Palpatine would take prisoners from the delegation instead of killing them.
Novoc Vevut
In Legends, Novoc adopted and raised the boy who would go on to marry Boba Fett’s grandfather. This version would be biological father to one of the stolen Mandalorian children that he and the new Mandalore Boba Fett have been seeking. Novoc would also have his adopted son Ghes Orade, who would act like a big brother for Finn.
Pros: Similarity to both Mandalorian Finn theory and LJ-writes-verse Sequel Trilogy. Provide a plot-based excuse to bring in Mandalorians and Boba Fett. Would be suitably epic without contradicting previous material.
Cons: Always have to deal with the “Boba should be dead” crowd. Morrison and Logan are both a bit too young to play old Boba (but makeup would fix that). Would raise the question of “where were these guys in the last two movies?”
Barney
One of Luke’s earliest Jedi apprentices, despite not having any real demonstrable Force powers, Barney is a humble, kind man from Marvel comics. He lived on Belderone, a world where AT-AT’s were built, making it a target for First Order raiders. After his home was raided, he has been working any job to pursue any lead as to where his son might be.
Pros: Barney is both sweet and determined, and would be a likable addition. Would also be poor enough to explain a lack of Galactic presence in previous films. Also provide a cute moment for Rey and Finn when she talks about living in an AT-AT, and Finn’s dad makes an instant connection.
Cons: Is named Barney, which is reminiscent of a certain purple dinosaur. Might not reasonably find Finn on his own power. Likable but potentially devoid of conflict once he reunites with his son.
Akanah Norand Goss Pell
Akanah was an ex of Luke’s, and a member of the Fallanassi, a religious organization that thought of the Force as a river known as the White Current, flowing and rippling. Akanah was absorbed into the entity Abeloth, aka Mother of Mortis, and died. However, what if when Abeloth was defeated, she and her avatars transferred to a different timeline rather than a different time period? Akanah, revived, and driven mad by the process, is unable to keep her newborn son in safety.
Pros: Bridge the old and new timelines. Provide a set-up for a potentially grand tenth movie. Add some mystery to an otherwise straightforward saga.
Cons: Somewhat depressing. Akanah would be a bit too old to have a child (but it is sci-fi). Would derail the main conflict of the sequel trilogy.
Katya M’buele
Katya was a friend of Han’s before the Battle of Yavin. In Legends, she died helping Luke fight demons in Marvel’s comics, but this version could live past the battle and become a Rebel Hero like Kes and Shara. She would be in the Resistance, as a slightly older woman, running smuggling and transport operations, always looking for her son that went missing at a young age.
Pros: Ties to the Resistance strengthened. Could appear as a young woman in a Solo sequel. Would not derail the conflict.
Cons: Underwhelming reveal. Ultimately too serendipitous to happen naturally (but there is the Force.) Not a very popular character.
Those are just some theories to rebut the idea that nobody’s thinking of some potential parentages for Finn! I might do a canon one, if this goes over well. My favorite is Luke/Lando, but I think Novoc would make for the best story. (Moth)

We drafted basketball teams made up of ‘Star Wars’ characters. Which is best?
Tumblr media
Was the Force with any of us as we made our picks?
A short time ago in a galaxy very close to here, the Skywalker saga reached its conclusion with the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Episode IX maybe the finale of the series’ third movie trilogy, but it’s far from the end of Star Wars as we know it, thanks to the limitless runway Disney+ offers and the overwhelming desire for nostalgia that is Hollywood today. (Give it a decade before we get the beginning of another movie trilogy). But it still marks a pivotal turning point for those of us invested in the saga.
So to celebrate, five diehard sports and Star Wars fans came together to do something (long pause) truly special: draft a five-man basketball team to take down a crew of alien ballers hiding out in the Unknown Regions.
There will be a substantial reward for the team who defeats these invaders. Managers were free to use any draft methods necessary, but we want this to be a fair fight. No superteams.
So, we laid out some important ground rules:
Only one Force-wielder — i.e. Jedi, Sith, etc — per team.
Only one droid per team. (Though one of the teams doesn’t have a droid).
Each team must possess at least one sentient alien. Unlike the Empire, who looked down on non-humans, we don’t discriminate.
All Star Wars canon can be considered, and by all, we mean all. (No Legends canon, though). Because of that, we made use of lots of characters from the many animated shows, The Mandalorian, and other side projects. We took this very seriously.
We’re building an actual basketball team, so chemistry matters. As the old basketball saying goes, there’s only one thermal detonator.
Those guidelines — particularly the one limiting everyone to just one force user— made for a fascinating draft. Here’s how it played out.
Allow everyone to explain themselves.
The Slamdoshans (Tyson Whiting)
PG: Ahsoka Tano (Force user) SG: L3-37 (droid) SF: General Grievous PF: Bossk (alien) C: Sarlacc COACH: General Armitage Hux
With the guidelines in place for the draft, I wanted to make sure I picked a team with players who would bend the rules as much as possible.
Some might find it “unfair” that I have two lightsaber-wielding players on my team. To be clear, Grievous may have lightsabers, but he is not a Force user. Plus, though he is mostly machine, he is technically of the Kaleesh race, therefore making him an alien pick. (My masters degree in Star Wars is already paying off). His four arms and ability to turn into a weird spider thing has the potential to surprise opposing players.
I was criticized at the time for choosing Ahsoka Tano over a Skywalker as my Force user, but she was trained by Anakin Skywalker, so she knows all his moves. She’s a great leader and showed her craftiness in tight situations during the Clone Wars.

L3-37 and Bossk are my sleeper picks of chaos. L3 will-trash talk you into submission, though I might have a problem with her on Twitter. I picked up Bossk’s nasty 7-foot-tall ass because he will walk through you, hissing and spitting while he does. I also assume he has incredible ball control with those three-finger hands.
So the Sarlacc. I know what you’re thinking: yes, I AM a genius. Sure, he (it?) can’t move, set a pick, or really leave the ground in any way. But stick this bad boy under the net and you’ll never surrender a layup or rebound EVER AGAIN.
Also Coach Hux will hit you so hard with those pregame speeches that you’ll have no choice but to win.
Tosche Station Power Converters (Caroline Darney)
PG: Cassian Andor SG: Lando Calrissian SF: The Mandalorian PF: Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader (Force user) C: Chewbacca (alien) COACH: Orson Krennic
Look at this perfect squad. Getting Chewbacca with my first-round pick (No. 2 overall) was clutch, and his big frame will dominate in this league. Anakin/Vader was a steal in the fourth round, and this is Rogue One peak-condition Darth Vader. His rage may lead to some bad fouls, but he’s been instructed not to force choke the refs.
youtube
I decided to lock down a pair of sharpshooters on the wings in the form of Lando Calrissian (Solo’s Donald Glover version) and the Mandalorian (affectionately known as Mando). They can run off of screens set by either big man (seriously, the screens are going to be so beautiful), and are both catch-and-shoot players. Mando’s inability to take his helmet off could get in the way at times, but his support of Baby Yoda makes it all worth it. Also, imagine the fits Lando will wear walking into the arena before the game. The capes! So many capes and furs!
To bring it all together, I needed the ultimate team player running the point. Enter Rogue One’s Cassian Andor. Quick, resourceful, and full of the intangibles coaches love, Andor is the perfect distributor for this squad. He doesn’t care about personal stats, but he will come through in the clutch if he has to get a last-minute bucket.
I know there may be questions about Director Krennic running the squad, but he’s here solely for the perfect quotes. Just imagine: when the defense is lacking, Krennic can hit them with “Are we blind? Deploy the garrison!” When my team wins the title, you can already hear him saying, “As we stand here amidst MY achievements.” Or, if his job is in question, hitting ownership with “your concerns are hardly warranted.”
But let’s be real. Vader is the player-coach of this team.

Dooku Blue Devils (James Dator)
PG: Yoda (Force user) SG: Greedo (alien) SF: Boba Fett PF: K2-SO (droid) C: Rathtar COACH: Watto
How did they sleep on this roster? The fools. The intergalactic fools. I’ve got Yoda running the point as my Muggsy Bogues-esque hero and distributor. I wanted my Force user touching the ball every single possession, and this was the best way to do it.
From there, I wanted to lock down the paint. I have some big basketball beasts as my enforcers. K2-SO is 7’1, and Rathtar has as astonishing 20-foot wingspan thanks to its tentacles, which will be too much for most teams to overcome.
The secret to my team is Greedo. I needed offense, and everyone knows his love of shooting first. (Editor’s Note: Please strike the end of that sentence from the record). If he needs to be kept in line, I have complete faith in Boba Fett’s “game respect game” bounty hunter familiarity.
Finally, I picked Watto to be my coach because I want a merciless cheater.
Project Harvester (Mike Prada)
PG: Bo-Katan Kryze SG: Sheev Palpatine (Force user) SF: IG-88 (droid) PF: Captain Phasma C: Jabba The Hutt (alien) COACH: Grand Admiral Thrawn
My toughest decision came in the first round. Do I wait on picking my Force user and build up the rest of the team, or do I just bite the bullet and take the most powerful being in the galaxy, personality issues and all? In the end, I gave in to my hate. Talent trumps character.
After that, I couldn’t take any good guys because there’d be obvious philosophical clashes. Jabba’s ego makes him a risky pick, but I’m gambling that he’ll be fine protecting the paint if Palpatine gives him a few post touches. IG-88 and Phasma are quality 3-and-D wings that’ll take on the tough assignments, and Thrawn is a master tactician who has the star’s trust. Point guard was tricky, but Bo-Katan has the versatility to play a secondary role while not being afraid to challenge the star if he steps slightly too far out of line. (I hope she has more respect for Palpatine than she did for Maul in Clone Wars).
Palpatine will take all the shots, which isn’t ideal. But hey, it works for the Rockets.
The Bombads (Russ Oates)
PG: R2-D2 (droid) SG: Rey (Force user) SF: Jar Jar Binks (alien) PF: Cara Dune C: Wampa COACH: Admiral Ackbar R2-D2 is the true hero of the Star Wars saga and always knows what to do in a tight spot. He’d be an excellent floor general on the court. While she is new to the Force, Rey keeps picking up points and has been able to disrupt the First Order’s offense. Cara Dune is a former New Republic shock trooper, so yeah, she’s going to grab all the rebounds. Better watch out for the claws on the Wampa, or you’ll be sorry. Admiral Ackbar can spot a trap by the opposing team.

Y’all can hate on the Jar Jar Binks pick if you want. I’ll accept the creative destruction he will cause on the court.
Which team are you taking to address this looming threat in the Unknown Regions? Vote in the poll below. The winner gets the full bounty. The loser is stuck with a bunch of useless tracking fabs. (Click here if you can’t see the poll).
