Egy gyűrű mind fölött
1954. július 29én jelent meg J. R. R. Tolkien Gyűrűk ura trilógiájának első kötete.
Tumblr media
mint a kommunizmust, a fasizmust, a II. Világháborút, a plasztikai sebészetet, a légiháborút, a tankokat, úgy a Gyűrűk urát is az I. Világháborúnak köszönhetjük.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
magyarul először 1981ben jelent meg. az első 11 fejezetet Réz Ádám fordította, de a betegsége miatt nem tudta folytatni, így a későbbi köztársasági elnök, Göncz Árpád vette át a feladatot Tandori Dezsővel, aki a verseket fordította.

Update on Wallace Harrison
I have made a lot of progress over the last several days and am SO excited to share what I've found so far. After scouring quite literally thousands of records on ancestry.com and newpaper archives, this is what I've managed to learn so far:
Wallace was born in June 1900 in Preston, Lanchashire, and moved to Auckland, NZ when he was around 11.
I did also find his parents and grandfather's names and it turns out he was named after his paternal grandfather!
He lived in California for a while, starting in the 20's.
There, he met Caroline (Carol) Wurtenberger and they got married in 1929.
They lived there until the 40s when they ended up in New York until the 50's. Carol was an art teacher/art professor in both places they lived; Wallace's occupation was listed as "painter" "commercial painter" and "unemployed" through the years.
In 1933, Wallace was shown in an exhibition at the Valentine Gallery. The exhibition catalogue for his pieces was written by writer and friend of his, Maurice Sachs.
A review of this show in the New York Times praises his works and states that the influence of both Matisse and Picasso are evident in his work.
At some point in the 40s, he taught both Helen Frankenthaler and Charlotte Park. Possibly in conjunction with Cooper Union University, though I'm still trying to confirm.
Him and Carol took a trip to England in 1930
In 1954, he left America and headed off for France, arriving in a port in Cannes.
In '56, he left France and moved to Spain. He lived there until his death in 1980 in Palma.
This little project of mine is FAR from over, there's still a million questions plaguing me (who the fuck is henriette!!), but I'm ecstatic that I've been able to even get this much. And there's even bits that aren't super important that I'm leaving out, such as where Carol was from, where she worked, her family, etc. It's very exciting and it really does feel awesome that like this has actually panned out and my efforts have results instead of it being a complete dead end like i was beginning to think.

Whilst the weather remained dry, although very cloudy, we took the opportunity to visit Hasslington Grane, where we walked around passed the quarries and continued up above the three reservoirs Holden Wood, Ogden and Calf hey. Although it proved to be a little challenging underfoot we had some good views despite the mist.

Games Design: XB1000 - Hammer Girl Brief

Creating floating text for NPCs
I will use NPCs speech to be able to add some form of story to the game and later on be able to create a new Blueprint for a Quest giving NPC.
I have included screenshots of the blueprints used to allow the Farmer NPC to talk when the player is in range, and for the NPC to then stop talking when the player leaves the range of the NPC.
I created a trigger box around the NPC which will be the range that the payer must be in to trigger the NPC to begin speech, alongside the speech animation.

In Britain in Bloom episode 6: Chris Bavin helps the volunteers of Lytham in Lanchashire with their entry for “Britain in Bloom”. They aim to decorate a staggering 50% of their seaside town with flowers and impress the judges with their key Bloom projects. BARGHEST
The barghest is the particular flavour of hellhound that stalks the ashen slops of the Bleak Eternity of Gehenna. The barghest is especially ugly, looking like a bulky mangy wolf with goblinoid facial features. This beast is capable of shifting between a fully lupine and fully goblinoid form, but primarily stays in its hybrid body.
What makes the barghest a challenging opponent is its stealth capabilities. While it can't fly, it can surpass obstacles by levitating. It naturally leaves no marks of its passage and high-level spells are needed to detect nearby individuals. Larger barghests can also render themselves and members of their pack invisible. A barghest grows by consuming the corpses of humanoid victims, eating flesh and bone so nothing is left. The scant availability of puny mortals in their volcanic dimension means that any unfortunate interloper will find themselves greedily sought after.
The Barghest is one of the many names that the ghostly black dogs of British Isles. This particular name originating from Yorkshire. Other national variants include the yeth hound (Devon and Cornwall), Gwyllgi (Wales), Moddey Dhoo (Isle of Man), Grim (Lanchashire) and just so many spelling variations of Black Shuck. Black Shuck may be the most famous of these names, but I can't be sure. All of them are large ghostly dogs, black-furred with glowing red eyes, and death omens. The Hound of the Baskervilles was inspired by these legends. The name "barghest" is the one I was most familiar with because it was in a book of mythical creatures I had as a kid. I can't remember the title though. I had a lot of these books.
I'm not sure where the whole shapeshifting into a goblin thing exactly comes from; I've only found once instance of a legend that claims that black hounds can shapeshift. My closest guess is that somebody read the term goblin-dog ("goblin" meaning "monster" rather than your contemporary fantasy Tolkein goblin) and went with that.
