Jeremiah's Afflictions
1 I am the man who has seen affliction by the rod of the Lord’s wrath. 2 He has driven me away and made me walk in darkness rather than light; 3 indeed, he has turned his hand against me again and again, all day long.
4 He has made my skin and my flesh grow old and has broken my bones. 5 He has besieged me and surrounded me with bitterness and hardship. 6 He has made me dwell in darkness like those long dead.
7 He has walled me in so I cannot escape; he has weighed me down with chains. 8 Even when I call out or cry for help, he shuts out my prayer. 9 He has barred my way with blocks of stone; he has made my paths crooked.
10 Like a bear lying in wait, like a lion in hiding, 11 he dragged me from the path and mangled me and left me without help. 12 He drew his bow and made me the target for his arrows.
13 He pierced my heart with arrows from his quiver. 14 I became the laughingstock of all my people; they mock me in song all day long. 15 He has filled me with bitter herbs and given me gall to drink.
16 He has broken my teeth with gravel; he has trampled me in the dust. 17 I have been deprived of peace; I have forgotten what prosperity is. 18 So I say, “My splendor is gone and all that I had hoped from the Lord.”
19 I remember my affliction and my wandering, the bitterness and the gall. 20 I well remember them, and my soul is downcast within me. 21 Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope:
22 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. 24 I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.”
25 The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; 26 it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. 27 It is good for a man to bear the yoke while he is young.
28 Let him sit alone in silence, for the Lord has laid it on him. 29 Let him bury his face in the dust— there may yet be hope. 30 Let him offer his cheek to one who would strike him, and let him be filled with disgrace. — Lamentations 3 (Part 1 of 2) | New International Version (NIV) Holy Bible, New International Version®, NIV® Copyright ©1973, 1978, 1984, 2011 by Biblica, Inc.® All rights reserved worldwide. LAMENTATIONS S.O.A.P. ~ CHAPTER 3
Thursday, 5/16
SCRIPTURE:
Because of the Lord’s faithful love we do not perish, for His mercies never end. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness! ~ Lamentations 3:22-23
OBSERVATION:
After two chapters of "woe is me" - a chapter full of reminders and reassurances...
...and the "source lines" to that old hymn, "Great is Thy Faithfulness..."
"Morning by morning new mercies I see..."
His "faithful love" - His endless mercy - new every morning - despite (or because of?) who I am...
...keeps me from perishing - because of and through Jesus...
APPLICATION:
Look for the new mercies...
Celebrate His great faithfulness
Call this to mind and have hope (Verse 21)
Probe my ways (Verse 40)
Lift my heart and hands to God in Heaven (Verse 41)
Do not be afraid (Verse 57)
PRAYER:
Great and faithful Heavenly Father - thank You for Your endless mercies through Your Son Jesus - may I rejoice in them and acknowledge You in worship, praise, and obedience in all I do for Your glory and honor - In Jesus's Name... in Jesus's Name...
Lifting my heart and hands...

Sunday Morning Coffee: Home Alone
I woke up at 4 a,m. Not my happy time. I’ve had trouble all week, cant fall asleep. Jumpy leg, restless all over. I need to find a way to get back into a decent routine. No one warned me that old age and retirement can mess with your inner body clock! You know what’s really aggravating? I’m SO sleepy now, but a nap is not an option. I HAVE to stay awake until bedtime if I’m going to get back…

Daily Prayer for October 16, 2023
Prayer: Grant to us, almighty God, a renewed sense of your presence and zeal to honor you as the alone sovereign of heaven and earth. We thank you for your infinite kindness, though we do not deserve the least of your mercies. We are sinners and fall short of your glory. Each day, we sin in thought, word, and deed. Too often we use our tongues for evil instead of good. Too often they are…

Expressing Grief (Lamentations 3:55-66)
A large chunk of society doesn't know what to do whenever they experience grief.
An engraving of the prophet Jeremiah lamenting, 1937 I called on your name, Lord, from the depths of the pit.You heard my plea: “Do not close your ears to my cry for relief.”You came near when I called you, and you said, “Do not fear.” You, Lord, took up my case; you redeemed my life.Lord, you have seen the wrong done to me. Uphold my cause! You have seen the depth of their…

The Prophet’s Affliction and Hope
For the Lord will not cast us off forever. Even if He causes grief, He will show compassion according to His abundant loving devotion. For He does not willingly afflict or grieve the sons of men.
To crush underfoot all the prisoners of the land, to deny a man justice before the Most High, to subvert a man in his lawsuit— of these the Lord does not approve.
Who has spoken and it came to pass, unless the Lord has ordained it? Do not both adversity and good come from the mouth of the Most High? Why should any mortal man complain, in view of his sins?
Let us examine and test our ways, and turn back to the LORD. Let us lift up our hearts and hands to God in heaven: “We have sinned and rebelled; You have not forgiven.”
You have covered Yourself in anger and pursued us; You have killed without pity. You have covered Yourself with a cloud that no prayer can pass through. You have made us scum and refuse among the nations.
All our enemies open their mouths against us. Panic and pitfall have come upon us— devastation and destruction. Streams of tears flow from my eyes over the destruction of the daughter of my people.
My eyes overflow unceasingly, without relief, until the LORD looks down from heaven and sees. My eyes bring grief to my soul because of all the daughters of my city.
Without cause my enemies hunted me like a bird. They dropped me alive into a pit and cast stones upon me. The waters flowed over my head, and I thought I was going to die.
I called on Your name, O LORD, out of the depths of the Pit. You heard my plea: “Do not ignore my cry for relief.” You drew near when I called on You; You said, “Do not be afraid.”
You defend my cause, O Lord; You redeem my life. You have seen, O LORD, the wrong done to me; vindicate my cause! You have seen all their malice, all their plots against me.
O LORD, You have heard their insults, all their plots against me— the slander and murmuring of my assailants against me all day long. When they sit and when they rise, see how they mock me in song.
You will pay them back what they deserve, O LORD, according to the work of their hands. Put a veil of anguish over their hearts; may Your curse be upon them! You will pursue them in anger and exterminate them from under Your heavens, O LORD. — Lamentations 3 (Part 2 of 2) | The Reader’s Bible (BRB) The Reader’s Bible © 2020 by Bible Hub and Berean.Bible. So as much as I have some criticisms for this season of LoVM, one thing I Won't criticize them for is the way they changed A Bard's Lament. I'm not saying you are bad if you did or how dare you not like it, but the thing I think of about it is: Not only did they Not have a season 4 renewal from Amazon, parts of this season were made knowing sam had cancer, Hell, he recorded the finale song shortly before going in for vocal surgery, theres *No* way the cast would've wanted the series to end the way a Bard's Lament did, even if sam was otherwise ok, he may have never been able to voice act again. Like, I'm sure they were all very positive about it and had good chances health-wise for him, but we Know it was a While he was working on speaking again just to come back to the game, and especially with no renewal from amazon and sam's medical situation, they did what they thought was best, and I cannot blame them or be annoyed with them for that decision. Outside of any opinions about how it worked narratively, choosing to end on a more positive note, with scanlan maintaining his relationships with the party, i can't fault them for it.
#also i did like the change in context of the way the series went#Sam himself has said multiple times that if pike was there to mitigate it wouldn't have gone the way it did in game#the legend of vox machina#critical role#the legend of vox machina spoilers#tlovm#tlovm spoilers#tlovm season 3#tlovm s3#tlovm s3 spoilers#a bards lament

I went into these finale episodes thinking that I'd be so disappointed if they didn't do the Bard's Lament... but I'm not. Scanlan's story is so personal to me because I relate to him a lot. He feels very insecure, like his friends hate him and I feel that a lot, it's why he's my favourite.
I know we all love the Bard's Lament because it's amazing roleplay and a build up of finely hinted at small character details within the RP, but speaking as a person... If Scanlan feels the way he said, lashing out at his friends isn't how he deals with it. That's not a healthy thing to do, and isn't really fair on his friends either.
Scanlan feels similarly to how he does in the campaign. He says that now he finally feels like he matters (with Kaylie), and he says he likes himself better with her. This is what Campaign Scanlan felt as well, the difference is now he's not angry, humiliated in front of his daughter because he's covered in pudding, or only just came back from being dead. In other words, this is essentially just the Bard's Lament if he handled it healthily, and I love that. He's telling them how he feels without accusing them of hating him-- which is the better way of dealing with it.
On another note, I still feel like I can write this One-Shot about Scanlan, Kaylie and Marion. I'll just have to tweak a few things to line up, because ultimately, those feelings of insecurity aren't just going to go away now. Part of him feels like they hate him, but another part of him knows that they love him.
And, obviously, if you're disappointed then that's valid. But I don't think that this is objectively bad or anything. It's just different and that's okay.
And you know what the best part is? This might not even be the proper adaptation for it! Given that a season 4 has been greenlit, and in my opinion it's still clear that Scanlan has some insecurities regarding his friends, they could still pull it off at some point!
