K'inich Janaab' Pakal ("Radiante ? Escudo o Escudo Solar", "Escudo Ave-Janaab’ De Rostro Solar" o "Escudo Radiante De Flor De Maíz (?)"): K'inich ("Radiante o Solar") + Pakal ("Escudo")

Throne with two lords in the eyes of a mountain. Artists: K'in Lakam Chahk and Patlajte' K'awiil Mo[…]. Guatemala, Piedras Negras, Petén. 785CE. Museo Nacional de Arqueología y Etnología, Guatemala City.
"This throne... shows two figures silhouetted in the eyes of an animate mountain, perhaps portraits of King K’inich Yat Ahk III and a courtier named in the text at the top of the throne back."
"... the king was captured in 808 by a rival lord from Yaxchilan, likely responsible for the intentional destruction of the throne. (The blows were aimed at the heads; the present ones were reconstructed in the 1930s.)"

Secondhand Embarrassment About Midwit Spergs
This is an extremely off-topic post, but it's something I need to get off my chest.
I'm an autistic woman. My diagnosis is ASD, but I disagree with this categorization, so I will refer to myself as a sperg, short for Asperger's syndrome-- ik, controversial, die mad about it. I may do a longer post about this in the future.
I'm in two classes this semester that have been causing me to internally expire. I will go from least awful, to worst.
I'm taking an Epic Literature course, and I sit next to a Classics major who is on the spectrum. We have similar types of Aspergers. I think if we were in another context, we would get along great except for the fact he reminds me of my ex-boyfriend, which is not his fault. He feels he is extremely qualified to talk about the Iliad, which in many ways, I am certain is true. But he expresses this certainty though interjecting the professor (who is my favorite), going on long, only semi-related tangents in the middle of discussion, and reading manga in class with full brightness, presumably because he believes he's gaining nothing from the lectures.
My classmates in my major have told me he's annoying, and that they can't stand people like that, and that they bet that's the kind of student professors hate to have in class.
The second course is a Middle Eastern history course, and there are four variously-functioning spergs who sit in the front row. The one in the middle greeted the poor Ashkenazi professor with a butchered ~"Al-Salama Lakam"~ on the second day because he "felt it would be appropriate for this class,"; the one on the left adds personal, completely non sequitur anecdotes to his rambling questions; and the one to the right seems completely checked out, asking questions and making comments so insulting to every possible demographic I'm not sure how I'm surviving.
For instance, this guy on the right asked if the Umayyad Caliphate was why there were so many [muhammadean] terrorists. He said he couldn't really believe the Quran promotes peace because he sees so much Terrorism on the news. He interjects the most obvious comments as if they are world-stopping revelations. In other classes I've had with him, he once described a portrait of Queen Elizabeth as looking "so Victorian."
I know, in my mind, that this is just a section of the spectrum that has either not learned to sufficiently keep a lid on it or deal with verbal incontinence in a way that is not socially hazardous, or people on the spectrum who are just averagely intelligent. I cultivate a social group of almost exclusively autistic people-- that is who I get along best with-- and I make sure that group is exclusively people I think are brilliant. I am not used to being around spectrum-ey people who are only as smart as your average person. That is why I find it so jarring. I should just let it go and trust that this encounter doesn't alter the impression of spergs or autistics in the minds of other people.
But that is not how my foolish little brain works. In my brain, I am melting from embarrassment. In my brain, everyone can see that they and I are alike, and that we share something in common. I am just like them. In my brain, I am as ignorant and interrupting as they are, my every contribution less than useless, my every word arrogant and annoying. It makes me not want to speak in these classes at all out of fear I sound just like them.
I don't know if I want comfort or advice, but I just had to express this. I'm sure it's some kind of internalized disorder.

Israel's Culture Ministry and The Operative
Israel’s Culture Ministry and The Operative
One frequent question I get asked is how the state sponsorship of popular culture (especially movies and TV) works in other countries aside from the US, since most countries don’t have formal entertainment liaison offices within their government branches. The most common answer is through the use of film commission and ministries of culture, who provide funding, promotional support, distribution…

some fanmade designs of dreamescape!adarna and celeste/ lakambini and sova for the very wonderful @nesssblog because i wanted to draw em! lil bit of exposition (also fanmade ahakdhak) - Lakam has a separate bird form, however her human appearance is tainted due to erratic instincts. She wears a mask to hide her beak. Her hair is accented orange cause it’s the color of her feathers. She has intense stage fright but manages to hide her anxiety. The flowers on her dress are camellias. - Sova has some frostbite on her face and hands because of the cold climates she lives in and hides most of her fur behind her clothing as to not draw attention to herself. She’s quite lonely in reality, but she wouldn’t ever admit that. She’s actually a lot more monstrous than her appearance is in the photo, but unlike Lakam she mostly has herself under control. Her flower is an icy orchid.

Ajpach’ Waal
Study of Maya ambassador reveal new insights in maya culture - new in history (2/?)
Ajpach' Waal was an important Maya-man who lived almost 1.300 years ago. His life was both marked by privileges and hardship. As a diplomat, he helped forge an alliance between two powerful dynasties, but his bones indicated that he lived an impoverished life as a child. As an ambassador, he collected a fortune, of which he could build a ceremonial platform. When the alliance he helped instate, broke apart, he lost his wealth and probably died in relative obscurity.
Under the floor of the temple next to the platform, there was a grave of a male skeleton. The place of the grave would indicate the person buried there, was the ogists, lead by Kenichiro Tsukamoto of the University of Califronia Riverside, discovered there a staircase, adorned with hieroglyphs that leaded to a ceremonial platform. The hieroglyphs tell us the story of Alpach' Waal, who traveled to the king of Copán to forge an alliance between Copán and the king of Calakmul; a Maya-city close to El Parlmar.
These discoveries shed a new light on the role of the communities from the periphery played in the making of alliances between the families in power during the late classic period (600-850 CE).
Ajpach' Waal was a lakam, which is a standard bearer. So he held a diplomatic position and was responsible to carry a banner when he was on a diplomatic mission between different cities. Ajpach' Waal took over this position from his father. His mother also belonged to a elite family. To Ajpach' Waal, the alliance between Copán and Calakmul as the highlight of his career because it was this alliance he decided to portray on the ceremonial platform he built himself.
Under the floor of the temple next to the platform, there was a grave of a male skeleton. The place of the grave would indicate the person buried there, was the owner of the temple and platform. However, he was buried with only two colored clay pots. This is very different than the usual gifts for the afterlife in Maya-culture, which often contained jewelry.
In a new study, Tsukamoto and Jessica Cerezo-Román explored the interesting life of the discovered bones. While the hieroglyphs seem to tell a story of privilege, the bones seem to tell a different story. By studying the bones, there are indicators that the man (probably Ajpach' Waal or his father) was underfed in his childhood.

Palenque - Mexico

C. (at Palenque, Chiapas, Mexico) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cg0i8lNAV5K/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The Rise and Fall of a Maya Bannerman
June 24, 726 CE, Ajpach ‘Waal met with the great 18 Rabbit at Copan in Honduras. Ajpach ‘Wall was from El Palmar 200 miles away over rugged terrain, a month on foot away. The meeting was memorialized on a monument at Copan and on a monument at El Palmar. Ajpach ‘Waal’s title was “Bannerman.” He may be buried near the monument. The monument was constructed on September 14 CE. There is a staircase with 164 limestone block glyphs, unusual for a site so small. The ruler of Calakmul is depicted, belonging to the Snake dynasty. Ajpak ‘Waal went to Copan on behalf of the king of Calakmul, perhaps to broker an alliance against Tikal.
Ajpjk ‘Waal was a royal diplomat or Lakam. The possible burial site of Ajpach was very modest. The bones found indicate the life of a man who had malnutrition and possibly scurvy. He had shin injuries possibly related to playing the ball game, and ballplayers are depicted in the glyphs. He had severe arthritis like a Lakam you have hiking long distances over rugged terrain. He had jade and pyrite teeth inlays.
On May 3, A.D. 738, 18 Rabbit was captured and beheaded by rebels from Quiriguá, supported by Ajpach’ Waal’s patron, the king of Calakmul. Calakmul itself then fell to Tikal. After that Ajpach’s standing fell, and he could not pay for a missing tooth with an inlay. His burial place was celebrated with a fire ceremony and maintained by his family.
