Obi-wan, 5
Duel of the Fates, but that's a freebie. ;)
For a more fun and less obvious answer to this question (what's the first song I associate with the character), there are a couple! (I will also have to be fair and say that both of these songs a) apply to many characters in addition to him and b) are contextual/work in duos.) But for post-ROTS feels: evermore by Taylor Swift (the CLASSIC lonely song); for up-the-chain mentor feels: In Case You Don't Live Forever by Ben Platt.
(I will tell you that both of these are also Legolas songs to me, so it could well be that the song comes first and the character second. Oops.)
#ask#nerdfriending#obi wan kenobi#in case you don't live forever is a legolas&laerwen song for me#thank you for asking!!!

Aerin daughter of Indor
The other words are practice for a sobriquet I was making for her, in the way Húrin is Húrin Thalion and Morwen is Morwen Eledhwen
The names I was thinking about are Laeriel or Laerwen, meaning summer daughter
My Justification in the Book of Lost Tales, Aerin does have a second name, Faiglindra, which means long tressed but which is related to the Gnomish name Aurfaiglim meaning “the sun at noon”.
I’ve talked before about Aerin feeling disconnected from her name post Nírnaeth but I imagine this second name she abandons completely,
Anyways I love her so much she is the best and deserves only good things (I say this through like 18 stories I’m writing about her that are not particularly happy)

Hello! I saw your tarot giveaway and would love to add my name to the mix. In particular, I'd really like to know about personal growth; what areas of my life need improvement, what steps I should consider taking to improve, etc. Essentially, whatever I should be aware of to grow and be the best version of myself I can possibly be. Thank you so much!
Hello @lady-laerwen
First of all, thank you for your participation! My blog is very new so I'm glad someone reached out :) In case someone else wants to participate, there are still 3 slots left, check this post to see the rules.
About your question on personal growth, it seems to be a check-in of some sorts to asses your current situation and see what advice comes to the surface and where more care is needed.
What needs improvement?
First of all, I think you're currently in a beautiful energy in your life and it's admirable that you want to dig deeper, and it seems you are being encouraged to do so. It takes a lot of courage and perseverance, and again, it's very beautiful! It seems there is indeed something precious to discover for yourself in this continuation of your journey.
I drew the archetype card the Starborn first (central column) so I think it's a good indication that an area of improvement is your spiritual life. It seems you are on the right track so nothing to worry about, but I'd say an advice would be to reconnect a little bit with your inspiration and, I'd say, blissful enthusiasm you felt when you were first starting on your journey. Being excited by the feeling of mystery, like a child full of hope for the future. It seems you may have a tendency to try to do things too perfectly and too rigidly, the way you think you need to do them rather than by following your inner wisdom. You might hold some limiting beliefs regarding that, that you need to shed. Perhaps some aspects of your practice are outdated or need some refreshment.
Which is also hinted at the left column of cards. You got very active, fiery and masculine cards, paired by an archetype card that is all about talking actions to end things in order to leave space to create something new. Which is awesome but you might be really eager to make decisions to move forward, bordering on being a bit impulsive and rigid at times. There is some type of excess in taking and cutting here, and not enough giving and feeding. What I'm trying to say is that, perhaps you are being too demanding with yourself at the moment and not giving your mind enough room to wander and breathe and find inspiration in unexpected places, and find this new thing you need to bring in. I'm not a huuuge fan of masculine vs. feminine energies but sometimes opposing concepts can be useful, and there is definitely a case here for being too active and not receptive enough. Which again is admirable and the reason you have such an adventurous spirit, but there are different ways to engage with this adventurous spirit of yours.
Right column now, there is definitely an invitation to open yourself up to your emotional side, especially when it comes to hidden emotions or ones you don't feel comfortable feeling. Again try to refrain from being too structured and constricting, instead, welcome some type of flow in your life. You don't have to figure everything out and know the exact path from A to B, it's okay to wander and let things arise on your path and within yourself. Let surprising messages come to you in due time. If your attention is too rigidly focused on one thing, then you run the risk on missing out on what's outside of your focus.
The Lovers as bottom of the deck and tying energy in a spiritual context talks about union between two opposite sides and I think it's very fitting considering what I wrote above. In order to gain a deeper connection to your spiritual self and progress on your path, you must slightly change the way you approach things, shifting from a very masculine and fiery way, to a more flowy and watery stance. But the goal here is to find balance with the two and not move from one extreme to the other.
I don't know whether you're already doing that or not, but practices surrounding dreams or spontaneous art making, or meditation that is receptive (not a focus exercise for example) could be good things to pick up for you and see where it leads you.
Steps you could take to implement this
Didn't take a picture for this part but basically you got the Tear + the Devil Rx and The Eternal Child + the Page of Pentacles Rx.
Definitely a confirmation to reconnect with your emotions, especially if they make you feel vulnerable and put you in a heightened emotional state. There is this idea of release that will help you detach from something that is constricting you. You need to learn to let go and not bottle everything up within yourself, because it makes you feel out of control or weak. It may feel difficult when you're in this process but it will be extremely beneficial for you quickly. You will feel freer and more accepting of who you are as a whole.
The second message is to embrace a wild child energy, to be playful, optimistic and full of enthusiasm. Let yourself shine and banish the austerity you feel like you have to embody. You may need to work on your need of being accepted and your fear of criticism that you learned as a child (solidified later in life), and perhaps that has to do with those tears you need to shed. So maybe take a look at emotional wounds you got as a child. Again there is a message to embrace who you truly are at the root and I think you might benefit from going back in time a bit to see what ignited this spark when you were younger, what you found inspiring and motivating, what you dreamed of embracing and becoming when you were older.
That's it for this reading! I hope it was useful for you and I'd love to have some feedback if you feel like doing it :) I wish you good luck on your path!!

For your art!! I'm going to be the tiniest bit self-centered and ask about the wedding day pics with families! Obviously I know what's up with the Legolas OCs, but what about the Gimli ones? And also, that really sweet one of Legolas riding piggyback with a joyous smile! And/or the inspiration for the Mirkwood cats? (Sorry this is so many questions but I love them all!)
the wedding day!! Yeah Gimli is getting ready with his parents. I don't have many particular thoughts on them specifically? besides to convey more of an atmosphere of formality than Legolas' family. They're very very proud of him! he's getting married! it's a lot more Ceremonial in their culture, so it's like. The atmosphere hopefully reflects that. the wood-elves take any excuse to have a party to Have a Fucking Party.
I just like drawing Legolas climbing on and/or hanging off of Gimli! I think it's really cute. Legolas flits around a lot I feel like and its like. he's so much lighter than gimli and gimli is strong and solid so he can just kind of. casually leap into his arms and Gimli will hold him.
The mirkwood elves ride giant cats because I think cats are neat. Also they have similar vibes to the mirkwood elves and they can like. sneak around in a dark forest in a way horses couldn't.
#gigolas#ehehe i love your ocs#oh also! laerwen is having a bit of a more bittersweet moment than eleniel#because she misses her wife#in the drawing

Also, I suspect I know what this title is for, so I'm hoping for some fun juicy additional tidbits from:
Mod FAV snippets
Hahahahahahaha so this one is a pure vanity project, maybe the most navel gaze-y thing I've done.
When I started working with @deheerkonijn, I absolutely loved playing around in modverse and I've continued to love it. But it's an interesting balance, working with a specific set of characterizations and situations! Our depictions of Legolas in our own work often appear on the surface to be completely, completely different. While working together, we've found a ton of points of connection and similarity, and have realized that we have a very similar view of him as a character after all, but the way that looks outwardly is - uh, quite different. Influencer!Legolas is about as opposite of FAV!Legolas as you could possibly come, you know? So just for fun, just for myself, I started playing around with what my specific characterizations and OCs would look like in a similar fusion universe. It was only for me and DHK, but it was a ton of fun (and turned into, like, a Legolas Family Drama TV Show haha).
Probably the crowning jewel of anything I wrote in there, though, was a made-up magazine profile of Gimli the architect, and since I haven't given you any snippets, I'll include a bit in here:
But if he’s been collaborating with Éomer of Rohan, does that mean we can expect to see more of his work outside the country? “I’m not saying anything about that yet!” he deflects again. “Nothing is set in stone – if you’ll forgive my pun.” No amount of gentle prodding will get another word out of him, so I return to the subject of his life. What has the transition been like – between Erebor and Minas Tirith, moving outside of dwarf-only circles, and rising so quickly to prominence? “It’s been . . . surprisingly easier than I expected, actually.” He smiles fondly. “I was lucky that I made some really wonderful friends right away, and having them has helped me both with the emotional transition and with even the finer aspects of design. I might have loved Lady Galadriel when I was younger, but having an elf as an idol doesn’t mean I really knew anything about elvish design. But since I met Legolas, I’ve been introduced to a whole new world. I find I love trying to integrate all these different inspirations and sensibilities – it’s a refreshing challenge.” Ah, yes, Legolas. The elusive elvish husband who has somehow remained such an enigma to the public eye. What about him? I can’t help asking. What’s it like being a dwarf married to an elf – especially that one? Are the rumors true? Is he really that Legolas? But Glóinul refuses to tell me anything. “That’s personal,” he says. “We like to keep our private life as private as possible.” If the rumors are true, I can’t blame him. It’s been whispered that Glóinul’s husband is Legolas Thranduilion – yes, son of that Thranduil, longtime prime minister of Eryn Lasgalen and generator of the most rumor and controversy since Thingol himself. Legolas has been much farther removed from the spotlight than his sister Laerwen Thranduiliel, former Lasgalen Secretary of State and center of a fair amount of spectacle herself – but that doesn’t mean he couldn’t step forward and claim some fame himself if he asked for it. So far he’s never granted an interview, and even Glóinul has never explicitly confirmed his identity, but my eyes keep straying back to that gorgeous antique desk in his studio. If that isn’t Lasgalen design, I don’t know what is. “Legolas is my husband,” is all Glóinul will say when I point this out. “All that’s important for you to know is that he’s my most fervent supporter, my biggest inspiration, and he makes me happier than anyone I’ve ever known. He’s been with me since before all this started, and honestly I admire him more than anyone I’ve ever met.” His fond smile says it all, but I can’t help teasing a little. Even the Lady Galadriel? “Even her.” Glóinul smiles. “But I don’t think she’d hold it against me.”
Thanks for asking! These will probably never see the light of day, so it was fun to get to share a little bit of it!

Laerwen looked at her sadly, she wished she could do more right now, but she'd have to do research to prove, without a doubt, that she belonged in the dangerous pod and wouldn't become a snack.

Million dollar question: in Northern Skies, how did the first conversation between Elladan, Elrohir, and Celebrían regarding Elrohir's fading go? When did it take place? Great question, thanks!
That conversation might have happened on Elrohir's first morning in Rivendell. After Laerwen's unfortunate intervention with the breakfast tray, Celebrían probably fed him a second breakfast together with Elladan. Perhaps on a balcony overlooking the waterfalls. She explained the concept of fading and how seriously ill he really was, and told him to take it very, very easy for the next couple of centuries. She expected Elladan to be shocked, but he was just sagely nodding along, an arm around Elrohir's shoulders. He knew well enough that something was very wrong with his twin. Elrohir didn't say much at all. He didn't trust her yet, and didn't want to risk giving insult by talking about the places and people he was missing, implying that he'd rather be there than with her. When Elrohir doesn't know what to say, he clams up. From there, It'll be months before he opens up about mundane aspects of his old life, and he won't talk about the big stuff (Hamalan!) until after the events of Northern Skies.

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love ❤️
Aww, I love this! Okay, thank you so much and thank you for the chance to do some navel gazing!
Also... my AO3 has 144 stories on it. When did that happen? For a question like this, I want to pick for quality of writing, but I'm finding myself going back mostly to the stories that either really stretched or defined me as a writer, or simply the ones that were a really memorable experience to write . . . which unfortunately means mostly my longer fics, as so many of the shorter ones were written in a single flurry that I barely remember after the fact! Even though there are some shorter fics that I think are better than the longer ones. So let's get started.
Finding a Voice - I mean, how can I not say this one? This fic, like a lot of my older work, has some passages and scenes that I think are so good I can't believe I wrote them, and some that make me cringe to look back on - but how can I not pick it, when it's the story that probably defines me most as a writer? It's the story that allowed me to stake out my own headcanons and gave rise to hundreds of thousands more in the same world. And, like all my LOTR stuff, I do want to return to it someday soon. <3
Ever Changing, Ever Climbing - still the longest thing I've ever written, and the thing I worked on for the longest time. I lived in the world of this story and these characters for almost a year, and probably came the closest I ever have to what non-fanfic authors experience when coming up with their own characters, because I got to make so much of it up! It similarly has bits that make me cringe, especially when I realize how much more deeply other people have thought about Mirkwood worldbuilding and how much lore I straight-up got wrong, but I think it also has some of my best prose and my best romance writing. And siblings. I got to write baby Legolas in this! And also I just love Laerwen so much and love that I got the chance to write her an origin story, so that it doesn't all exist only in the background of my head.
Only Through Surrender - come on, this is my current obsession; I was never not going to put it on the list! But in some ways, this is exactly the inverse of the previous story. I wrote this faster than I've ever written anything this long, and it's the most daring thing I've ever written in terms of plot. The romance is almost a subplot, which I don't know that I've ever done satisfactorily, and it's an AU, which is not something I'm great at sustaining, and even though I don't know that the writing style overall is my best work, I think that the structure and pacing of the story - and the things I did with characters - are pretty good, all things considered! The only non-LOTR fic on this list.
Velle - in terms of "fun to write," this story might be the very top of all of them. This was @deheerkonijn's and my early-covid project (we actually started it a couple months before, but I think working on it saved us in those early telework days of stress and angst); it's a form of storytelling neither of us had tried before, combining both of our skills, and it's probably the most rigorously edited and densely-packed thing I've ever written. We went over and over and over this story with a fine-toothed comb, making sure the writing and the art worked perfectly together, and we liked it so much we printed it as a physical book! *smooches my copy gently*
Having moved out of the most iconic ones, I wasn't sure what to pick for the last! This became a bit of a toss-up, but I wanted to have a shorter fic represented, so: the hunter's heart, the hunter's mouth. This is my only fic with a Richard Siken title, so I figured it was fitting given that he's everywhere right now. ;) Inspired by the title, this is one of my more deliberately poetic fics, and I had a lot of fun with the writing. It's also some of my more daringly explicit work! (still does not include any words for certain aspects of anatomy)
Thanks so much again for sending me this ask! So sorry for how much I ramble when talking about myself! ;) Off to go pass it on!

Greetings, inexplicable New Followers (and fare thee well, understandable ex-followers)!
I’m very very old. I’m very cranky. I abuse ellipses and semi-colons. I’m not good at anything and especially not at ‘people’, so I generally keep to myself and shut the fuck up... I’m not disinterested, I just have nothing interesting to add to the discussion.
The inbox is open, but not to Anons; I don’t mind messages, but Tumblr never lets me know that they are there so it takes a while for me to respond.
My blogs are relatively dormant at this point (and likely to stay thus), but I do spew out the occasional blather and idiocy. I try to tag everything to make it easy to avoid the bits that are annoying (*cough cough* all of them); some useful blog-specific tags and what they denote are
kh personal (excerpts from my sad sad life) kh fail (nothing I do ever goes as planned) kh housekeeping (’operational’ shite, like this) kh plays dragon age (me fucking up in Thedas) kh plays all the games (me fucking up in places like Nirn and Faerûn) kh mods dragon age + kh toolset fail (awful and/or useless things happen!) kh screencaps (when will someone take that Printscreen button away from me?) kh reply (are you talkin’ to me?) modded alistair (a thing I do mostly to be contrary) kh annoys everyone with alistair voice clips (3172 of the fuckers) moira cousland / nariel surana / esme amell / laerwen mahariel / kallian tabris (my uglyface fail!Wardens) ellena lavellan / emlyn trevelyan (my uglyface fail!Inquisitors) solaaaaaasssssss (*weeping*) And I throw in the odd post about music, books, and the weather. There’s a sideblog for just the modding crap, if that’s all you want, and I keep all the wordy nonsense about my toons to sideblogs you don’t want to see. (I’m a giver, by not giving...)

"I helped it get started over here. It's a company my brother started over in NYC while he was still living with our father. He wanted to open a location out here but was too busy with the one there. So I volunteered and basically did a barnraising of it and have been working here ever since." She replied easily.
"At the time it came here, it was considered innovative because we allowed anyone of any color, race, or gender work a good position, not just a lowly one. And we've always paid fairly." She shrugged.
So...how old was she again? The company's been here for over fifty, sixty years? Immortals, sheesh, can't keep their ages a secret to save their lives.
"Hi Sunni! I'm Laerwen, it's good to finally meet you. I'm the on-site coordinator. Let me just prep you for this interview and then you're in." The bright smile from the pale redhead lit up the room as she gave her a wink of those stormy blue eyes, "Don't be nervous, you've basically already got the job."
‘Sunni’ looked up at the redhead, honestly surprised by such positively. But given her luck with finding a job…its a bit refreshing. Her warm reddish brown eyes stared at the human, she was nice. Yet, humans are finicky things, so she couldn’t fully gush about her excitement.
“I- uh- thank you, Laerwen.” She spoke calmly, fixing her choker.
