Similarities of Folklore in H2O: Just Add Water
Previously I did a post on Cleo's bathtub transformation and how it's a previous motif in some legends. I now want to dive into the rest of the folklore that can be fished out of the show. Many parallels are not directly the same, but still share some interesting origins. First, let's look at the powers.
Tumblr media
Edited and cropped "Sous la Vague" or "Les Baigneuses" by Nicolas Auguste Laurens in 1898.
1: Cleo's hydrokinesis can be found in many waterpeople. Almost all humanoid water deities across the world are able to bend water to some extent, many of would would be countless to name in one post. For instance, Poseidon/Neptune was said to be able to control the seas. Triton could calm and raise the waves of the sea with the blow of his conch shell. Aside from water deities themselves, other waterpeople were able to control water. According to "Scaled for Success: The Internationalisation of the Mermaid" on page 108, the Filipino sirenas were said to be able to control water "by manipulating water levels and/or create whirlpools to swamp their prey". According to "Mermaids: The Myths, Legends, and Lore" on page 180, the Filipino kataws control the waters around the Philippine Islands, namely its "tides, currents" and even the "movements of the aquatic creatures". The Asturian xanas were in charge of keeping rivers and fountains calm according to: Mitología Asturiana - Marsellaviana on Freehostia under the llavanderes or washerwomen entry http://marsellaviana.freehostia.com/mitologiaasturiana/seresmitologicos.html
One xana in particular was able to flood as she supposedly flooded the town of Gayangos and created an entire lagoon and the lakes in the area according to: La leyenda de la Xana de Gayangos - La Cantabria Burgalesa https://lacantabriaburgalesa.wordpress.com/2016/12/03/la-leyenda-de-la-xana-de-gayangos/
Asturian llavanderes, basically mythical washerwomen, were able to summon floods and create whirlpools according to the aforementioned Marsellaviana site.
Another mermaid is the seewief or seewiefken of German folklore in Minsen. She once got caught in the net of some fishermen and got tormented, yet she eventually escaped. In revenge, she cast a curse and created storm floods in the years of 1164, 1362, 1717 and 1962 that hit Minsen. This is told according to: The Minsen Mermaid Statue - a Seewief from the Middle Ages https://mermaidsofearth.com/mermaid-statues-mermaid-sculptures/public/minsen-mermaid-statue-seewief/ (This sourced some other sites, but they are gone), Die Sage from Minsener Seewiefken - NAKUK https://www.nakuk.de/wiki/seewiefken/, Seewiefken - Wangerland https://www.wangerland.de/poi/seewiefken and Das Minsener Seewiefken Vom Fluch der Meerjungfrau - NWZ Online https://www.nwzonline.de/kultur/minsen-das-minsener-seewiefken-vom-fluch-einer-meerjungfrau_a_50,6,796560382.html
Yet another is the zeemermann of the Saeftinghe legend in the Netherlands. A zeemermin once got caught by a fisherman who refused to let her go. Her husband swam after the boat, yet to no avail. He cursed Saeftinghe and flooded the land. It was said that only Saeftinghe's towers would remain. Now, the land, it's called the drowned land of Saeftinghe. This is told according to "The Mermaid Atlas - Merfolk of the World" by Anna Claybourne on page 31 and Wandelen in het verdronken land van Seaftinghe - JNM https://jnm.be/nl/activiteiten/wandelen-in-het-verdronken-land-van-seaftinghe
~~~
2: Rikki's fire power: Waterpeople can be associated with fire, the sun or warmth despite inhabiting the water. (Added note: Originally, I did not acknowledge that). In Thai folklore exists the so-called Phi thale ผีทะเล sea spirit who is able to appear as a mermaid or a beautiful woman who can lure sailors to their demise. Sometimes a Phi Thale takes form as a St. Elmo's fire, basically a weather phenomenon caused by electrical discharges during thunderstorms. It seems to appear like faint luminosity or "fire" and in context of the Phi Thale it might, for example, take place on a ship's mast as shown on the illustration, but one is not absolutely shore. St. Elmo's fire also appears in many other forms like on church towers. Phi Thale description is from: What is a Phi Thale (ผีทะเล)? - PAHUYUTH https://pahuyuth.com/en/glossar/phi-thale/ and information on the Saint Elmo's Fire - Britannica https://www.britannica.com/science/Saint-Elmos-fire
Tumblr media
Illustration from "The Aerial World" by Dr. G. Hartwig in 1886 on page 310.
Sulis is a Celtic water goddess from the United Kingdom who is still associated with the sun and is thus both a water and solar deity. She was also associated with the hot springs in Bath according to Sulis, Goddess of Celtic Mythology | Characteristics & Depictions - Study. com https://study.com/academy/lesson/sulis-celtic-goddess-mythology-history.html?srsltid=AfmBOopQslCH2QEArMfaq5VE7QDgXuMQS3z55jnppUGbVGlpA3E7ldu2.
The lakes of the Catalan freshwater-maidens called the dones d'aigua were said to boil if a stranger would dive into them, yet this is only said on Wikipedia without a source and until I do not have found any good source for this, please do not claim it as fact.
The Portuguese water-maiden Maria da Manta meaning "Mary of the Blanket", Maria Gancha namely "Mary Hook", Maria Ganta meaning "Mary of the Grid" or as in the Miranese language, Mariamanta, was said to live in wells. While her appearance varied a lot, some would say she possessed eyes made of fire despite living in the waters of wells according to: Maria Gancha - Portuguese Creatures and Legends Galore https://portuguesecreaturesandlegendsgalore.wordpress.com/2020/02/14/maria-gancha/
Tumblr media
 Illustration for "Las Supersticiones De La Humanidad" by Jose Coroleu in 1881.
Melusine from French folklore is sometimes said to grow wings when she flies away in the legend and therefore is sometimes considered to be a literal dragon-maiden either with one or two fishtails and sometimes only with a serpent tail depending on the version. She is both considered a watermaid and a dragon-maid in different versions because of that.
Tumblr media
Illustration from "Le Roman de Mélusine" in ca. 1450-1500.
An enchanted xana could also turn into a cuélebre, namely a snake-like dragon, in order to be disenchanted. Her savior must perform some tasks so that she would be able to be free from her spell, turn back into a xana or a normal human being and be freed from being bound to her lair. This disenchantment is really complex and one can find a wide sea of different methods. One source of mine is: Some thoughts on Asturian Mythology - David A. Wacks https://davidwacks.uoregon.edu/2014/12/12/asturian/. In spite of that, both of these dragon-turned watermaids didn't emit fire from their mouths. I still included them because it shares a little of the fire aspect due to their dragon forms.
~~~
3: Emma's ice power: Plenty of waterpeople live in colder waters, but do not possess the power to manipulate water and turn it into ice. The only mention one ever heard of are the Filipino kataws who can also turn water into ice according to this Wikipedia article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kataw_(Philippine_mythology) that sourced "Mga Engkanto: A Bestiary of Filipino Fairies. Philippines: eLf ideas Publication. 2003". It's probably a privately published book as I can only find a Blogspot post about its concept idea. Would like to confirm the source, but as of now one does not have the book.

"The Last of the Fairies" by Ida Rentoul Outhwaite (1888-1960)
4: Simply the moon or the full moon: Waterfolk has a relationship to the full moon. There is no moon pool or a direct moon spell affecting waterfolk, yet Catalan dones d'aigua tended to only show up on full moon nights where they would come out of their caves to dance, to comb their hair and to wash their laundry. Some would only sing on full or new moon nights, maybe they got spell-bound by the moon? Who knows. This is told according to: Les dones d'aigua - Elisenda Vilaró Móra http://www.elisendavilaromora.com/2012/03/les-dones-daigua/, Llegendes del riu i les done's d'aigua - Turisme Les Planes D'Hostoles https://turismelesplanes.cat/localitzacions/el-riu-i-les-dones-daigua/, Llegendes: Dona D'Aigua - Generalitat de Catalunya Departament d'Educació https://agora.xtec.cat/ceipcamins/4t/llegendes-dona-daigua/, Llegenda de les Dones d'Aigua - Mapes de Patrimoni Cultural https://patrimonicultural.diba.cat/element/llegenda-de-les-dones-daigua, Les dones d'aigua en la tradició popular - Mitologia Catalana Blogspot https://mitologiacatalans.blogspot.com/2016/09/les-dones-daigua-en-la-tradicio-popular_23.html and Mitologia Catalana - Isaac Baley https://www.isaacbaley.com/mitologia-catalana.html
One xana was said to be only present on full moon nights, dancing in the forest. This is said according to: La leyenda de La Xana: una historia de amor en Asturias - Crónica Asturias https://cronicaasturias.es/blog/la-leyenda-de-la-xana-una-historia-de-amor-en-asturias
Atargatis is one of the earliest waterfolk deities aside from the kullulû of Mesopotamia. She's an Assyrian fertility and mermaid goddess, yet was also described to be a moon goddess according to "Mermaids: The Myths, Legends, and Lore" on page 78.
The selkies were also said to go ashore on full moon-lit nights to shed their sealskins and dance at the seaside.

Tumblr media
Illustration by Hugh Thomson for "Highways and Byways in Devon and Cornwall" in 1897.
5: The granting wishes ability from episode 5 "Hocus Pocus" on season 2: In the Cornish legend of Lutey Curry and the merry-maid, the merry-maid was said to have given Lutey three wishes as he had helped her go back into the water from being beached ashore. He wished for the power to heal the sick, the power to "defuse wicked spells" and to have his powers passed on after his death according to "Mermaids: The Myths, Legends, and Lore" on page 102 and Curses, Vengeance, and Fishtails: The Cornish Mermaid in Perspective https://www.academia.edu/31865439/Curses_Vengeance_and_Fishtails_The_Cornish_Mermaid_in_Perspective
The Scottish ceasg or maid-of-the-wave was also said to grant one three wishes if one caught her and then released her again according to #FolkloreThursday: The Ceasg - Steampunklibrarian Blog https://steampunklibrarian.blog/2021/09/30/folklorethursday-the-ceasg/ and Gaelic Folklore (5): Ceasg - Nicovleeuwen https://nicovleeuwen.blogspot.com/2019/06/gaelic-folklore-5-ceasg_7.html
~~~
6: The shapeshifting from mermaid to human is something prevalent in folklore, but not at the simple touch of a water drop. Instead, primarily only if the lower half is fully submerged, basically when fully going into a water body. Most waterfolk only have a fishtail that they can discard and wear later on again like a piece of clothing, but some do fully shapeshift like the mermaids of the show do. According to "Mermaids: The Myths, Legends and Lore" on page 181, the fishtailed yawkyawks from the mythology of the Kuninjku people in Australia could go ashore and "sprout legs and seem to be wholly human".
~~~
Tumblr media
Edited “Unter-Wasser-Philosophie” by Erich Schütz for Mocca in 1934. Yawkyawks were said to have green hair resembling green algae in freshwater streams and rock pools, called man-bak in Kuninjku according to Yawkyawk (Ngalkunburriyaymi) - Maningrida Arts and Culture https://maningrida.com/artwork/683-23/.
As the show is set in Australia, the waterfolk of Australia is another part to consider. Here's a list of the Indigenous Australian watermaid ones. I won't skim through the entirety of their lore due to the fact that there are barely any parallels between them and the show, aside from the yawkyawks who could shapeshift into humans:
< Yawkyawks (other terms: ngalkunburriyaymi, ngalberddjenj (both possibly from the Kuninjku people) ngalworreworre (Wugularr community) from the book "Mermaid and Serpent - A Story from Wugularr Community", and ngalkodjek (Darnkolo people) as from: Owen Yalandja: Ngalkodjek Yawkyawk 2019 - ARTKELCH - Contemporary Aboriginal Art https://www.artkelch.de/en/artists/owen_yalandja_216/works/ngalkodjek_yawkyawk_1827
< The pearl-givers or the mermaids of the Keppel Islands of the Woppaburra people are found in "Among the Mermaids: Facts, Myths, and Enchantments from the Sirens of the Sea" on pages 98-99.
< The Ji-merdiwa from the Burarra people near the Blyth river can be found on: Mermaids tales appear in myths across the world- Arnhem Land included by Anna Whitfeld - ABC News https://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-06-11/mermaids-across-the-world-arnhem-land/9846210

< The karukayn of the Gurindji people as told in “The Penguin Book of Mermaids” on pages 224-225
< and the Muli Kanybubi from the Marri Ngarr Yek Dirrangara people as told in “Muli Kanybubi Tjitjuk Kawuny Na Yagatiya - The Two Mermaids’ Dreaming Place”.

Whether intentional or not, the lore is pretty deep.

Re-published and re-polished from the edited original entry on reddit via r/JustAddWater: https://www.reddit.com/r/JustAddWater/comments/1f934vx/similarities_of_folklore_in_the_show/
In the original entry, I had wanted to include these depictions that can be seen here, but it got removed. I am not shore what the culprit was, but it may have been the second or latter depiction of Melusine as I did not edit it back then since I thought it would be tolerated because no chest was directly visible. On the un-edited version of the depiction, her chest was already obscured by a light spot that looks like as if the paper had been ripped.

6. Loud Chewers: Evangeline is sensitive to sounds, especially loud or repetitive noises like chewing. She finds the sound of loud chewers distracting and irritating, preferring a quiet and peaceful environment when enjoying meals or snacks.
7. Injustice: Evangeline has a strong sense of justice and fairness, so she dislikes witnessing or experiencing injustice in any form. Whether it's discrimination, inequality, or acts of cruelty, she feels compelled to speak out and advocate for positive change.
8. Wasting Food: Having grown up in a close-knit community where resources were valued and shared, Evangeline dislikes wasting food. She believes in mindful consumption, minimizing food waste, and appreciating the abundance of nourishing food available to her.
———
—Her small story
At 15 years old, Evangeline Villanueva experienced a life-altering event that set her on a path of curiosity and self awareness.
Living in the United States at the time, she found herself amidst a heated argument at a friend's house just a week after her birthday. As tempers flared and voices rose, the chaos peaked with an overwhelming surge of emotion from Evangeline.
Unleashing a primal scream, she shattered the silence and a nearby window, sending glass shards flying and leaving everyone in shock, including herself.
Her parents, Diana and German, rushed to the scene, struggling to comprehend the magnitude of their daughter's newfound abilities. They were deeply loving and supportive but chose to handle the situation on their own, without seeking outside help. Her brother on the other hand decided to take a step towards trying to help his young sister however never found a true answer, despite all of the love he had for her.
It just wasn’t in his favor, in none of there favors it seemed.
Their efforts to normalize Evangeline's life worked for a while, but as months passed, their confidence waned, and Evangeline felt increasingly isolated.
Seeking refuge from her turbulent emotions, Evangeline often visited the beach, where the rhythmic waves provided a soothing backdrop. It was in this tranquil setting that she began to explore the extent of her abilities, start testing her control and finding moments of peace.
However, fear and confusion about her powers eventually led her to stop experimenting and focus instead on simply enjoying the calming presence of the ocean.
At 19, overwhelmed by uncertainty and the burden of her powers, Evangeline made the difficult decision to leave home. Adopting the alias Vani Armas, her great grandmother’s surname, she embarked on a journey across the world, seeking a sense of normalcy and belonging.
Despite her parents' wishes, she traveled through various towns and cities, ultimately finding a semblance of peace in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, at the age of 23.
In Rio, Evangeline found a job at a small shop that sold trinkets and also served as a café and restaurant. She enjoyed the vibrant culture, the beaches, and the music, which reminded her of home.
Here, she rarely used her powers, preferring to keep them hidden.
Occasionally, she would use a small whistle to catch a dog’s attention or subtly manipulate water in a glass, but she avoided drawing attention to herself.
One evening, Evangeline was invited to a house party by a co-worker, Lorena, near the De Costa side of the city. The party was lively until a gang of thieves broke in, seeking to steal valuables and take hostages.
As chaos erupted and Lorena was about to be assaulted, Evangeline’s fear and anxiety culminated in a piercing scream that shattered glasses and forced the thieves to retreat in pain.
Her scream, mixed with fear and a desperate plea for help, temporarily incapacitated the thieves. Some fled, while others attempted to gather what they could. The police arrived soon after, arresting the thieves and questioning Lorena’s younger brother, Hector, who seemed to be the cause of the intrusion.
The incident left Evangeline physically and emotionally drained, her throat sore from the powerful scream. She stayed home for a few days, drinking warm beverages to soothe her voice and avoiding work.
On the third night, a knock on her door brought an unexpected visitor: a tall woman with long grey-white curly hair, rich dark skin, and warm brown eyes, dressed in a fine yet casual outfit.
The woman introduced herself as Ororo, known to many as Storm.

"In the Veracruz imagination, the woman who became a mermaid has a first and last name. Her name, when she was human, was Irene Saavedra González and she lived, during the first years of the 20th century, in a small Huastecan town called Rancho Nuevo, near the lagoon. of Tamiahua in the north of Veracruz.
Irene was a beautiful young woman with dark skin, black hair and olive eyes. Her father, Abundio, had died. Her mother, Damacia, since she became a widow, had dedicated herself fervently to serving the Church, following to the letter all the uses and customs of the Catholic faith, which included hearing mass and not working in the fields. Holy days.
Legend has it that one Holy Thursday, Irene decided to go get firewood and, not happy with that, when she returned she told her mother that she wanted to take a bath because she was dirty and full of dust. Her mother warned her that it was not correct to bathe during Holy Week, but the young woman replied that at least she would go and wash her face.
It is said that Damacia heard her daughter's cries for help. When she came to help her, she saw the young woman transform into a being that was half woman and half fish. Her screams turned into a chant. Then, a huge wave covered her and dragged her down the river, towards the Tamiahua lagoon.
It is said that the residents of Rancho Nuevo wanted to help her and followed her in her boat to the lagoon. There a ghost ship appeared and Irene, now turned into a mermaid, jumped up and started shouting “peten ak, peten ak”, which in Tének or Huastec language means “turn, turn”. The animals in the lagoon revolved around her and formed a whirlpool into which she submerged. From her cry, “peten ak,” the name Petenera was derived."

How to Be a Real Life Mermaid 🌊🧜‍♀️🐚
The Look
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
🐚 Wear sea foam green, aquamarine, teal, ocean blue, soft grey, lilac, periwinkle, emerald, pale gold, white, deep blue, and turquoise
🐚 Pick flowy fabrics such as taffeta, chiffon, linen, silk, muslin, and sequined fabrics that resemble fish scales
🐚 Choose garments like maxi dresses, flowy skirts, bandeau off-the-shoulder tops, tank tops, soft scarves used as tops, shell clutches, woven bags, and pretty beaded sandals
🐚 Accessorise with jewellery made from pearls, sea glass, seashells, turquoise, aquamarine, opals, gold that resembles the sun glinting on the sea, and silver that reminds one of the metallic sheen of fish scales. Examples of accessories you can wear are bangles, anklets, layered necklaces, and pearl earrings
🐚 Makeup Ideas: eyeshadow in nudes like a sandy beach, greens and blues like the sea, or lavender and pink like a coral reef, shimmery highlight, dewy skin, coral pink lipstick, and seashell pink lipgloss
🐚 Hair Ideas: loose curls that look like ocean waves, fishtail plaits, green and blue hair dye, pearl hairclips, and sea salt hairspray. Brush your hair with a pretty wide-tooth comb.
The Lifestyle
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
🐚 Listen to songs such as Martha's Harbour by All About Eve, No Ordinary Love by Sade, Come Into the Water by Mitski, Pearl Diver by Mitski, Mariners Apartment Complex by Lana Del Rey, and Call of the Sea by Claudie Mackula (a longer mermaid playlist is here).
🐚 You can also listen to the sounds of the ocean, like whale song or waves crashing on the beach
🐚 Watch movies and TV shows such as Aquamarine, Splash, The Little Mermaid, H20: Just Add Water, Mr Peabody and the Mermaid, Miranda (1948), Mermaid Melody Pitchi Pitchi, Ponyo, Barbie in a Mermaid Tale, Barbie: The Pearl Princess, Neptune's Daughter (1914), A Daughter of the Gods (1916), Queen of the Sea (1918), Venus of the South Seas (1924), and Magic Island (1995)
🐚 Read books, fairytales, and poems such as The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen, The Mermaid Handbook by Carolyn Turgeon, Mermaids: The Myths, Legends, and Lore by Skye Alexander, A Daughter of the Sea by Amy Le Feuvre, Undine by Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué, The Mermaid by Alfred Lord Tennyson, and The Sea-Child by Katherine Mansfield
🐚 Mermaids are renowned for their beautiful siren song, so sing sweetly and brightly as often as you feel like it
🐚 Make your self smell like the ocean by using a deodorant like Old Spice Deep Sea, and perfumes like L by Lolita Lempicka, Acqua di Gioia, Salt Air by Skylar, Fleur de Corail by Lolita Lempicka, Seahorse by Zoologist, Nymphéas by Kismet Olfactive, Salina by Laborattorio Olfattivo, Alien Mirage by Mugler, Very Sexy Sea by Victoria's Secret, 20,000 Flowers Under the Sea by Tokyomilk, Nebbia Spessa by Filippo Sorcinelli, Tiziana Terenzi's Sea Stars Collection, Chant d'Extase by Nina Ricci, Sirena by Floris, Squid by Zoologist, and Orto Parisi Megamare (be aware that the latter two suit a dark siren who lures men to their deaths more than a sweet mermaid princess).
🐚 Make your home smell like the deep sea too, with sea salt scented diffusers and candles such as Yankee Candle Sea Minerals, Yankee Candle Seaside Woods, or Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt
🐚 Home Decor Ideas: silk sheets in blue, grey, and sea green, seashell jewellery trays, homemade terrariums, jellyfish embroidery, seashell candles, beaded curtains made from string and shells, paintings of maritime scenes, glass vases filled with layers of sand, seashells, and faux pearls, seashell shaped soap dishes, rattan furniture, woven baskets, treasure chests to keep your valuables in, mermaid figurines, a seashell or jellyfish mobile, a bowl filled with seashells, a glass bottle filled with ocean water or with a love letter inside to replicate a message in a bottle, mosaics with marine motifs like seahorses and shells, even an aquarium with colourful fish if you are able to care for them
🐚 Spend lots of time around near bodies of water, swimming in it to connect with your inner mermaid, or just walking in it and feeling the sand beneath your feet
🐚 Collect seashells and pretty pieces of sea glass thar wash up on the shore
🐚 Watch synchronised swimming, or even learn it yourself
🐚 Go diving, snorkeling, or mermaiding
🐚 Visit aquariums to see beautiful exotic fish and learn more about the ocean
🐚 Do your best to be sustainable; make the world a cleaner place for your fishy friends to live in. If possible, attend a beach clean-up group local to your area to help pick up litter
🐚 Carry a haircomb and hand mirror with you at all times (you can hotglue seashells and faux pearls on the back of the mirror to make it even more like a mermaid's treasure)
🐚 Watch documentaries and read books on the ocean, marine life, and nautical myths and legends
🐚 Enjoy snacking on seaweed soup, coconut water, and Guylian seashell chocolates
🐚 Take luxurious baths with dead sea salt, seaweed masks, small white bath bombs that resemble pearls, a coconut scented candle, and calming music

Luna de Xelajú
when i tell you that i am OBSESSED with this song. it’s not okay. anyways, this blurb was inspired by this song!
warnings// fem!reader, spanish might be kinda shit (i wrote this at like 1 am, sue me), miguel is probably ooc, not proofread so…, pure fluff
[name] was curled up next to miguel, her head resting in the crook of his neck. he had his hand tangled in her hair. there was a silence between them, however it wasn’t an awkward silence. it was peaceful. calming even. miguel broke the silence by humming a soft tune. it was familiar. why, he and [name] always sang that tune together. she smiled as she heard the soft tune. miguel looked at her tenderly. “nena, you’re making that smile again.” and she was. it was that smile that said a million words. one that said ‘i love you’ a million times.
“but you love it.” [name] replied with a faint chuckle. it was true. very true. miguel absolutely loved that smile. he would do anything to see her always smile like that.
“indeed i do, nena.” miguel said with a soft smile. his eyes slightly squinting even with the softest of smiles. he pulls her in just a little more closer than they already were. “how about you sing for me, yeah? tú sabes que yo te amo tu vocecita.” he pauses for a second “eres como una sirena cuando tú cantas. always so captivating, mi sirenita.”
[name] knew what song he was talking about. of course she knew he was gonna ask her to sing for him. he’ll eventually sing with her. their voices going together so well “luna gardenia de plata que en mi serenata te vuelves canción..” she started off slowly, finding the rhythm of the ballad.
miguel nodded his head slowly with each word she sang. he was completely enamored with her voice. “tú que me viste cantando, me ves hoy llorando mi desilusión.” he sang back to her. when he sang, he sang with his soul. each word, each verse was sung with passion. each little thing was genuine.
“calles bañadas de luna que fueron la cuna de mi juventud,” [name] would sing back. oh how she loved singing with him, let alone singing for him. miguel knew she was a little insecure of her singing but always encouraged her with praise and motivation. that was something [name] loved about miguel.
the couple looked at each other with so much love in their eyes “vengo a cantarle a mi amada, mi luna plateada de mi xelajú.” their voices intertwining into one song, one expression of love and affection. the two sing the entire song together, holding nothing back as their voices pour out of them, and it sounds like a melody as sweet as two lovers singing together.

Translation: Hello, could you write headcanos of what vaggie and charlie would be like if they found a demon girl on the streets of hell whose mother died during the extermination and they adopt her. But when she grows up they realize that she is a mermaid demon which she inherited from her biological mother.
gracias por la solicitud, Es realmente único. ¡Que tenga un buen día!
Vaggie and Charlie & orphaned demon reader
Tumblr media
★ Nobody knows who or what your mother was but its clear that she did care about you. If she didn't you wouldn't have made it out alive when the annual extermination started.
★ You where hidden away, probably under some random garbage so the exorcists couldn't see you. That's where charlie and Vaggie found you. In the beginning Charlie wanted to give you a name immediately. Vaggie was against naming you so soon because she thought your parent could still be alive.
★ Charlie's been around for awhile and as the daughter of Lucifer she should know about the different species in hell. However this wasn't the case. She couldn't tell what exactly you are.
★ Vaggie, on the other hand, has only been dead since 2014. So she doesn't know as much as her girlfriend when it comes to hell-born demons.
★ Mermaids, or at least something similar, exist in the world of Hazbin Hotel. As seen in the ring of Greed and the ring of Envy. Shark, fish and jellyfish demons have all been seen in hell.
★ The simplelist explanation would be that the traits associated with your species didn't start to show untill you grew up. Like a tadpole growing into a frog. (Did that make sense?)
★ So things like your tail, webbed hands and possibly gills would catch both of them off guard. Many sleepless nights where had by Vaggie trying to lean as much as she can about your species.

Fun Facts With Eva V. 🏝️🐚📕🎮
Tumblr media
~
-> Hola y’all! Here are some facts about me and my life
Growing up, I was always concerned and embarrassed about my natural appearance because I didn’t see much of myself on TV screens and in schools. Everyone’s hair was pressed and laced down, so I wanted a similar style. So I did many years of heat tools and dying my hair—I eventually damaged it! Nowadays, I slowly am getting back to appreciating my natural looks.
My favorite color is neutral blues and soft sage greens ( I adore yellow too)
My thing people always call me, “Vani”, “Sol”, “Eva”, “Lina”, “Genie” and or whatever nickname some random person calls me 🤷🏽‍♀️
I adore Reggaeton, Bachata, Urban music, Pop and R&B 🎧
When it comes to my style it’s very chill urban chic with a soft sporty tone. 🗝️ Along with my hoop earrings!
English is my first language and Spanish is my second language. ✨ Even though I speak it, to the best to my ability and can read it más o menos (which means so so in English), i cannot write it.
Oh! I am a very simple gal when it comes to what I eat or drink, even though I can sometimes be quite sensitive/picky. BUT! I do enjoy a Morir soñando 🍹and a Coca Cola
My brother enjoys gaming and whatnot, you know the video games? 🎮 But for me, i always prefer Just Dance!
Oh! I am a fangirl for shows and movies 🍿 sign me up! I’m here with the remote control in hand. Such as “Moana” and “The Little Mermaid” bring a level of vibrant visuals, storytelling and memorable soundtracks (I enjoys different types of movies & series as well)
I enjoy watching The Avengers & X-Men on TV 📺 I am biased but I think I love Storm and Spider-Man hehehe
Oh! I love food 🥘 get me a bag of chips and a nice meaty sandwich any day of the week. I love bacon in my burgers.
I am often shy and get nervous when I am being told something or caught off guard by someone. 🫣 I forget EVERYTHING in that very moment and go blank.
I often grapple with the complexities of my identity as a mutant with mixed heritage, confronting issues of prejudice and discrimination. 🎙️
Yes, I struggle with mastering my powers and coming to terms with her name given to me by a friend as "La Sirena de la Canción." Which means “The Siren of Song” in English. 🧜🏽‍♀️
I have lived in Mar Azul, New York City, and Brazil over the years. Even traveled to The Caribbean islands too once 🛫

Let me know what you think! 💭

Ship ship ship shit art--i mean, ship art!
I was doing an el filibusterismo assignment when i randomly got my ass to draw Maria Sirena and Benedict Inkwell💀 (yes, thats their spanish colonial era names XD)
Maybe drop in a some lore,
Maria Sirena De La Mar y Noche
-a beautiful yet cautious and fierce Filipina woman, she doesnt trust any of the Spaniards nor any other nationalities who come to Las Filipinas. She is also known as Maria Sirena. She has a beautiful singing voice and some colorful talents. She often spend late nights to do art. Her family has been in good contact with the town's Kura Paroko (parish priest), though, she dislikes him especially whenever she catches him staring at her. One day, a group of American friends spot her on a warm afternoon and they try to befriend her. Especially that man with a blue three-piece suit, a red bow tie and a fedora hat... (Also, if you know the story of either Maria Clara or Juli in El Fili, yk whats gonna happen to Maria Sirena, except she has a good ending compared to the aforementioned two characters)
Benedict Inkwell
-a famous artist in America who draws portraits of people in black paint and a white canvas. He also does inky portraits and pencil portraits. He didnt plan to go to Las Filipinas but his friends, Boris Connor, and his wife--which is also a friend-- Alice Connor (nee Angel) convinced him. They also tagged along the twin brothers Carlos and Manuel Blanco, and Manuel's girlfriend, Cala Maria Lithos. Benedict is often teased by his friends by calling him his famous nickname "Bendy" because he gets a lot of troubles as a child
Other characters
Boris Connor - Benedict's childhood friend and best friend. He is a married wolf. He is a Jack of all trades, meaning he can do any work and any occupation (Like Bert frlm Mary Poppins) and is also a Magician. He likes playing the Clarinet. American.
Alice Connor nee Angel - Boris' beautiful singing wife. Also a childhood friend of Benedict. She can play the piano and cooks very well. She is very friendly and open minded. American.
Carlos Jose Diego Blanco y Fernandez - the older twin brother. He likes collecting old stuff, especially vintage plates and cups. He is very good at wielding guns. Spanish. He is part of the Guardia Civil, to serve and protect the people--like his (retired) grandfather.
Manuel Alejandro Francisco Blanco y Fernandez - The younger twin brother. Also has a hobby of collecting vintage dishes like his brother. Spanish. He has a girlfriend. Good at wielding guns too, especially the sniper rifles. He is part of the Guardia Civil, to serve and protect the people--like his (retired) grandfather.
Cala Maria Lithos - A famous singer and Maxwell's girlfriend. Greek. She has strong eyes (idk how to put mataray into english lol) which sometimes makes people assume she is a bossy and rude person. But after her fame and people got to know her, her eyes became a part of her charm.
(i dont understand why spanish names gotta be so long ;-;)
Also note: all of the characters' powers here; bendy's ink manipulation, siren's mermaid tail and soul manipulation abilities, cuphead and mugman's fingerguns, cala's gorgon stare, are all REMOVED. Nobody has powers here, only guns, gunpowder, fire, knives and voices.
[[Theres a possibility they may be humanized but im not really dedicated to this lol]]
Here's the noli one (old ver)
