Even a couple of years later, I'm still in love with L.O.R.D. Critical World because it pushed so many of my buttons.

Not only did it feature Zhang Mingen in a fantastic main part but it also showed something I've never seen done anywhere before: a soul bond between the two male leads that wasn't just a by-the-by thing but an important part of the main plot and of their characterization. And when that bond was broken at one point, the stoic one in that relationship went absolutely ballistic.

And also, it showed the progress of several disciples from complete nincompoops to awesome Lords where they young'uns became the movers and makers of their world. Like, we saw the actual path they took to reach their position, all the highs and lows. That was just so fascinating!

I wish there were more fantasy dramas like this one. I do like me a romance driven xianxia/wuxia but lately, they all seem the same...

You're telling me the Ice Fang who can turn innocent people to ice with his breath, instantly decides to shoot flying saws at the enemy trying to fight him instead of freezing them. Episode 2, you're telling me the person trying to protect his disciple blows Ice Fang directly at his disciple. Oh man...

Hmm looking at @xcziel's tags:

I can't help but think of a story where they really are OLD and have been together for a very long time until Hei Xiazi got cursed and the curse causes Zhang Rishan to forget him and everything that has to do with him, which is basically his whole life and in the end the only thing he remembers is his own name. And for some time it works that Xiazi tells him who he is and they make new memories until the curse starts over. And over. And over.

Until Hei Xiazi gives up and lets Rishan make new memories without him which has him end up with Fo Ye and as long as Hei Xiazi is just keeping tabs on him but not getting close to him the curse stays dormant and he suffers. He keeps himself busy, tries to live his life and falls in love with other people, but it's never the same, the only one that gets close is Xie Yuchen and he is the first person Xiazi tells the truth. About his very long, very cursed life. Cue Xie Yuchen trying to find a way to fix both curses.

So it would only be one of them weighted with the long life and the regrets and all that (until the curse gets lifted).
