you never figured out how
to fit into this world.
How to carve out a spot

i apologize to myself daily,
but i rarely accept it.
i am still learning how to look myself
in the eyes and say you did okay.

I move from one ache to another,
not knowing how to breathe in the moments between.
I think I'm more obsessed with longing than love.
More interested in dreaming of lovers
than actually holding them in my arms.
I think I've learned to define myself by being empty,
by always craving and never having.
A heart that doesn't know what to do
when it gets what it wants.

The ability to surround myself in darkness...
0 notes
Healing wasn't rosemary baths and candles and tea;
it was ugly crying in the shower.
It was finally wrapping my arms around my knees and admitting defeat.
Healing was no longer trying to hide that my eyes were always swollen;
it was ignoring the churning of my stomach
and forcing myself to eat.
Healing was going through the everyday motions until the nights felt shorter.
It was crying and falling and rising and trying until the walls of an empty house
no longer scared me.

instead of finding. Replacing instead of gaining.
They call it blossoming, but it feels more like spilling out.”
