MODERN VERSE
VERSE TAG: ;;modern: i look to the stars and it feels like something is missing LOCATION: Varies [thread dependent] AGE: Default is 30 [otherwise, thread dependent]
Basic Information
X. Ben was born to Senator Leia Organa and high profile actor and model Han Solo. Due to their high activity schedules, Ben was left with various babysitters for much of his childhood. X. When he was ten, he was kidnapped by one of those babysitters and held for ransom. Ben has blocked out much of what happened while he was held by Snoke. Shortly after rescue, Ben was sent to live with his Uncle Luke in New York. (Note: While these memories are repressed, they are responsible for a later depersonalization disorder on top of various anger issues and chronic depression.) X. Growing up after Snoke’s kidnapping was difficult for Ben. He often felt different than his classmates and it was hard for him to make friends. His uncle caught on to this and tries enrolling him into various after school programs. He was often asked not to return due to his anger issues. X. As he got older, Ben expressed a deep desire to move out of his uncle’s house despite having nowhere to go. Seeing his father on television and in movies knowing that he wasn’t around was enough to make him irritable the rest of the day. Sharing his name and being stopped on the street by fans looking for photos only made things worse. X. In order to find something to get his attention, Ben took to technology and developed a fascination with graphics and coding. In freshman year, he started taking band classes. He can play trumpet, piano, and guitar. X. He tried getting in contact with his mother for a good part of his senior year of high school. When neither of his parents showed up for his graduation, he enlisted in the marines.
X. He tried getting in contact with his mother for a good part of his senior year of high school. When neither of his parents showed up for his graduation, he enlisted in the marines.
X. The day he left for basic training, Ben and Luke had an argument. Luke blamed him for taking off just as Han did and felt that the military wasn’t where Ben should have been going, that he was running away. Ben did nothing to him but he did become quiet enough to absorb what was said. The argument escalated and Ben threw terrible things at his uncle. It was nothing new. In the process, he shut down and focused on his basic training - started 2008.
X. Thirteen weeks basic training and no contact with his uncle made Ben flourish. He was one of the top recruits at the time, specializing in ballistic weaponry with melee and hand-to-hand combat as close seconds. While the training was exhausting, he began finding his confidence and backbone. At the same time, he was starkly reminded that he had little to no place in the slowly crafted groups of various other marines. This distance was justified for him in the way that distance would make loss easier later on. He started college soon after.
X. 2008, E1. Started college in New York as a reserve - two-day monthly and two weeks of annual training.
X. 2010, E3. During a training exercise, he engaged in unusual tactics to protect him and his men during a mock shoot out where they were pinned on location. First emergence of Kylo Ren in a non combat situation. Due to his quick decisions, Ben was commended by the officers overlooking his training.
X. 2011, E3 (Age 20). Grandmother died. Ben attended the funeral but didn’t speak to his family. All of his belongings were moved from the home and straight to a storage facility in Queens. Ben pays monthly for storage.
X. 2012, E-3 to O-1 (Age 22). Graduated fluent in Arabic and Urdu. Attended a ten week officer training class in Quantico, Virginia. Deployed on active duty near December. Ben was involved in protecting and evacuating civilians during a battle in an Iraqi city. Afterward, he was part of a search and rescue team to recover the injured and the dead.
X. 2014, O-1 (Age 24). From 2014 onward, Ben was deployed to Iran for multiple operations. At one point, he started to rethink his goals. Beginning of Kylo Ren starting to emerge, started brutal interrogation tactics of captured prisoners.
X. 2015, O-1 TO O-2 (Age 25). Promoted from rank O-1 to O-2.
X. Bought his own home and vehicle in New York state. Found out through his uncle that his father knew of him and was keeping an eye on him. Ben didn’t tell his mother but she informed him months later that she already knew. Most of the Solo family knows who he is and what he does. While he doesn’t have a target on his back, they do keep tabs on him.
X. 2015. Ben was employed by his mother mainly because he was needed for translation assistance as well as his unique but effective interrogation techniques. He was given full reports and was only allowed to translate small pieces at a time for confidentiality sake, but what information was given to him via questioning was unfiltered.
X. 2015-2017. (Verse dependent)
(Option 1) - multiple failed attempts at dating men and women alike. Very few could handle his constantly shifting lifestyle. Two girlfriends cheated on him, three boyfriends ghosted him.
(Option 2) - multiple PTSD induced nightly issues. Sleeps away from his partner to keep them from having to deal with his inability to sleep at normal hours and/or long periods of time. Snappy, irritable, and quite easy to set off. Would never hit his partner conscious but he does have issues where waking may cause him to choke them. Attempts many different therapists and rarely sticks to a single one until the end of 2016 - failed by mid 2017, Kylo Ren scared the therapist by revealing her address, phone number, and threatened to skin her family alive.
X. 2017 O-2 (Age 28). Early in the year, January through May. Ben began making efforts to finish his education on Spanish and Russian, and finished Spanish. Listed the course completion on his files. He went from performing operations to preventing loss of life on the ground by translating messages sent from opposing forces. Begins to feel he has his issue with Kylo under control (except he doesn’t).
X. 2017 O-2 to O-3 (Age 28). Late in the year, May until early 2018. Promoted to O-3 mid-May. Deployed to Afghanistan again. Captured by enemy forces in early June. Ben remained with them for almost a year before he was freed by a US Air Force pilot (Verse Dependent - Could be any SW Resistance or First Order Pilot.)
X. 2018 (Age 29). Ben spent the majority of the year in recovery. The first few weeks was touch and go but he was allowed out of the hospital within two months time. Because of the various injuries, he not only had to have physical therapy to recover (which he took on easily) but narcotic painkillers to manage his chronic pain. He didn’t allow many people to see him while he was recovering and took to staying at home alone unless friends showed up without mention. Partners were automatically allowed near him but instructed, by him, not to try to coddle him.
X. His injuries include; the long scar down his face, a bullet wound to his left shoulder, and a near fatal wound to his abdomen.
X. Late 2018. Leia has him reassigned to a position in intelligence.
X. 2019 O-3 to O-4 (Age 29-30). Officially diagnosed with PTSD, depression, and general anxiety disorders. He refused additional therapy and any medications prescribed to him. Managed to pay his home and vehicle off, does freelance translations in his spare time. He remains at home for the most part and works on his abilities in the backyard, surrounded by a privacy fence. Chewbacca (gift from vuuelo and service dog in training), his dog, remains with him for the most part along with any romantic partners.
X. As a safety measure, Chewbacca will alert anyone in the home to Ben’s depersonalization disorder acting up. He will bark and growl, then attempt to put himself between the other person and Ben in order to keep Ben from harming them.
X. He has a home in New York City and another in D.C. and frequently travels between the two. Because of his position, he often sees his mother and works with her but rarely speaks to her on a personal level. He hasn’t seen Han much at all since he was young and he actively avoids Luke if he can help it.
Important Note: Due to Ben’s high amount of emotional and mental instability after spending a year as a POW, any romantic relationships may be highly toxic. He does not take medication for his mental conditions and can endanger himself and anyone in his home with him. While Chewbacca will growl at him if ‘Kylo Ren’ is at the forefront, this does not mean that other people in the house will be safe.

omg please write Kylo and Hux having an argument and fox!Hux hiding on the roof but Kylo freaks out because he can't find him
Kylo has been on the phone with his boss for at least 30 minutes, Hux notes. His mate is angry, shouting down the phone about unfair deadlines and coworkers who aren’t pulling their weight.
There’s a final, snarky ‘whatever!’ from Kylo before Hux hears him slam the phone back into its holder, and he’s storming out of the kitchen and to the front door.
“We’re out of milk,” Kylo says, huffing.
Hux looks up as best as he can manage from where he lies upside-down on the couch, legs over the back and the tips of his ears almost brushing the floor. Kylo is already putting his coat on, a solemn look on his face.
“I’ll come with you,” Hux says matter-of-factly, flipping himself around until he’s the right way up, climbing up to his feet.
“I’ll go on my own. It’s only down the street,” Kylo says, grabbing his scarf. “Just stay here.”
Hux shakes his head.
“It’ll only take me a second to get my clothes,” he says, looking down at himself, having learned that going outside in just a sweater and his underwear–with his tail and ears out– isn’t acceptable.
“You don’t have to follow me everywhere, Hux,” Kylo mutters, sighing. “I’m capable of going to the store on my own.”
“I’m aware,” Hux says, shrugging. “But you’re my mate. I want to be with you, act like real partners do, like I’m not just your pet–”
“Then quit acting like one and stay here!”
Hux freezes, his ears immediately dropping. He feels a strange welling sensation in the pit of his stomach, rising up to consume his chest, and only when the tears are in his eyes does he realise that it’s sadness; a feeling that’s alien to him, experiencing nothing but joy and contentment since his relationship with Kylo began.
Kylo says nothing, just averts his gaze from his distraught fox and leaves their top-floor apartment, leaves Hux standing alone and staring at the place where Kylo had been only seconds ago.
His mind reels in turmoil: does Kylo truly just see him as a nuisance? A pet that follows him around to the point where he’d rather be rid of him? Not a lover, not a partner, not a mate. A bothersome pest.
Hux blinks hard, causing the tears to start to fall as he turns and walks into their bedroom, shedding his clothes on the way, summoning the natural magic that’s weaved into his soul to shift into his animal body. Usually, he doesn’t think twice about changing his form; a fox is a fox, regardless of its skin or its fur, it’s woven into his soul, but as he catches his reflection in the mirror, Hux growls at himself.
What he’d give to have been born a human.
Having explored the area around his new den when he first met Kylo, Hux knows the quietest spots without venturing too far into the unknown. Putting his two front paws on the big window in their bedroom, Hux pushes it open and hops out onto the balcony, and he’s hit by the cold September breeze, but he doesn’t dwell on it. An animal belongs outside, doesn’t it?
He leaps up onto the railing, knowing that he can make the jump from here to the ledge of the roof, though he does frighten himself when his back paws land in the plastic gutter and part of it snaps off, making him yelp in surprise.
Quickly scarpering up to the flat part of the building’s roof, Hux settles himself down in the closest corner, hoping the raised edge would shelter him from the wind at least a little. He wraps his tail around himself for extra warmth, wanting nothing more than to be curled up in bed with Kylo, blankets wrapped around them, his mate’s heavy breath on his skin.
Hux whimpers. He should’ve known the life of a human could never work for a wild animal like him.
Kylo returns home feeling absolutely rotten.
With his job potentially lost because of a failing on his part, he knows that the rent this month is going to be tight, as is his usual grocery shopping, and there’s no way he’s allowing himself to neglect his fox’s appetite. Hux deserves all the nuts and berries and meats that he wants; Kylo is certain he’d be in a bad place if it weren’t for his relationship with Hux.
And now, he’s pushed him away out of fear.
“Hux?” Kylo calls out, opening the door to their apartment, feeling a chill in the air. “We need to talk. I’m sorry.”
But his words are only met with complete silence, a word that doesn’t really apply to Hux; always chattering to himself, always making comments about the complexities of the human world to Kylo, always making a noise somewhere in their home.
“Hux? Come out, okay? I’m sorry, I swear,” Kylo says, walking around the apartment, looking in the spots that Hux usually likes to sit in when he’s in his fox form. Under the coffee table, in the closet, on top of the pile of fresh towels in the bathroom, on Kylo’s desk chair, but he finds nothing. Until, that is, Kylo finds the grey sweater and grey underwear that his fox had been wearing before he left him. That, and the window being open.
“Fuck,” Kylo whispers, turning on the spot. “Hux? Hux!”
His mind can only focus on the possibility that Hux has left him for good, run away because of Kylo’s words. He goes out onto the balcony but doesn’t find Hux there either. Kylo closes his eyes in defeat; he’d compared Hux to a pet. The man–fox, whatever–that’s brought unbelievable happiness to his life, and Kylo calls him a pet, implies he’s a pest.
He turns to go back into the apartment but frowns when something snaps underneath his boot. Lifting his foot, Kylo sees bits of black plastic on the floor and he immediately looks up, seeing pieces missing from the gutter above their balcony.
“Hux?” Kylo calls out one final time and he hears the softest of growls in response.
Carelessly ignoring the risk, Kylo stands on the balcony chair and climbs up onto the roof, his gaze immediately latching onto a ball of freezing fur snuggled into the corner. He can’t see the fox’s face; he’s buried his nose in his tail, either hiding his grief or protecting himself from the wind. Either way, Kylo feels his chest ache.
“Oh, Hux,” Kylo says, approaching him slowly. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it–”
As he reaches his hand out, Hux snaps at it, bearing his teeth, reminding Kylo of the first time he’d brought the injured little fox into his home, afraid and angry.
“I deserve that,” Kylo says. He begins taking off his coat, shrugging it off, never breaking eye contact with Hux. “Change for me? I need to talk to you.”
Hux blinks at him, twitching his ears.
“Yes, you can listen to me whilst you’re in this body but I’d rather you be able to talk back. Please?”
Kylo shuffles closer and stretches his hand out again, and Hux allows him stroke his head, scratching the sensitive patch behind his right ear. Hux hums seemingly happily, and Kylo feels the familiar change in the air as Hux changes into his human body right in front of him; fur changing to skin, paws becoming hands, eyes remaining the same.
As soon as he’s shifted, Kylo hands Hux his coat and the fox puts it on, fastening it tightly around his lithe and pale body.
“Well. Go on then,” Hux says, kneeling opposite Kylo. “Tell me what I already know.”
“And what’s that?”
“That I’m a pet, not a partner. Just a pest and not a lover.”
“I was upset, it was wrong of me to take my anger out on you,” Kylo mutters, shaking his head, hand grabbing Hux’s and holding on tightly. “I’m sorry. It’s not true. You’re my mate, aren’t you? Just as I’m yours.”
Hux looks down at their hands, tail subconsciously curling around his bare legs.
“I’ll stop following you everywhere,” he says.
“No, don’t,” Kylo replies quickly. “I don’t want you to. I want to be the one to show you new things, I want to spend every second of my time with you…I’m sorry, Hux. I am. My job–we need money. Or we’ll lose the den.”
Hux looks saddened for a moment before looking up, green eyes shining. He shuffles forward, climbing into Kylo’s lap, wrapping his arms around his mate’s neck, kissing his cheek.
“Kylo,” Hux begins, stroking his fingers through his mate’s dark hair. He presses his forehead against Kylo’s temple and sighs. “We could live in a box in an alleyway and I wouldn’t care. I…love you. My ridiculous human.”
Kylo smiles, and nuzzles himself against Hux, having learned that such a natural show of affection is what soothes Hux the most.
“I love you too, my mischievous fox.”

#5 + Modern!Kylux pretty please??? Maybe they're at a bar or something?? Idk up to you, I love your work!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you nonny:) Here you go, I hope you don’t mind the slight shift:)
“Wait a minute. Are you jealous?”
Hux walked through the gym glass door into bright sunlight, tilting up his head and sighing at the caress of warmth on his face. His Monday yoga always left him feeling relaxed and energized at once, all the tension of previous week of work and fatique of more work at home on weekends washed away - at least for a while.
Bowing down his head again, he opened his eyes just in time to catch a glimpse of familiar hair quickly disappearing around the corner. Hux smiled inspite of himself. Kylo would make a terrible spy.
“Saw you!” he called out, grinning. Kylo reluctantly stepped into the open and made his guilty way over the street to him. He looked half-annoyed at having been caught and half-relieved that the hiding was over.
“I don’t need you walking me home every time,” Hux pointed out even as he linked their arms together and set a leasure pace, intent on enjoying the nice afternoon stroll with his ridiculous husband. “It’s literally three blocks between here and home, and broad daylight.”
“I was just wrapping my last installation and was on my way home when I ran into you,” Kylo said. Hux snorted. The gallery in question was a long way from here across the city.
“And last week you just happened to be grocery shopping here when there’s not a single grocer to be found and the week before that you had an appointment with a doctor across the street - except that doctor is an obstetrician, Kylo.”
Kylo muttered something unintelligible and wound himself tighter along Hux’s side.
“I can take care of myself,” Hux chided him. “And there wasn't a case of street criminality around here in ages.”
Whatever was it that Kylo was about to mumble this time got swallowed by the cheery “See you next week, Huxie!” and a rather forceful pat on the shoulder as their instructor, a twenty something boy with a perpetual smile and inability to take anyone and anything seriously breezed past them, turning just to give him a saucy wink and then hurrying away.
“Huxie,” growled a deep voice next to him. Hux blinked and realised that Kylo was gripping his arm so hard it hurt.
“Ow!”
“Sorry.” Kylo softened his death grip immediately but didn’t let go. If anything, he kept himself even close than before. Looming. Threatening anyone that...
“Wait a minute. Are you jealous?”
Kylo froze.
“Were you seriously waiting outside every time just to see if I would come out alone?”
“No!” Kylo blurted out, too quickly. He looked so crestfallen that Hux almost pitied him. Almost.
“I trust you! I just... don’t trust them!”
“Them?”
“Them watching you like a piece of cake! Watching you stretching in that tight outfit and–”
So Kylo must have found a way to get a look inside through one of the windows. Incredible.
“You are more than welcome to join me on the lessons,” Hux pointed out, hiding a smirk. “Maybe then you’d understand how little sexy it actually is.”
“I’d look ridiculous,” Kylo muttered, defeated by his own design.
“Another case in point,” Hux beamed. “everyone would be too busy laughing at you to be able to ogle me.”
“I am sorry,” Kylo repeated, red to his ears now. “I know I’m awful, I know you’d never–”
“Hush,” Hux stopped him. “Actually, next time when you’re picking me up you could give a little scare to that idiot of an instructor. He calls me Huxie one more time and I swear I won’t be responsible for my actions.”
