okay, these aren't in any particular order, just as they occur to me:

-"okay. i'll play." first moment i knew there was something intriguingly fucked up about this guy. he appears on a skull throne framed by fire having strung the plucky heroine's antagonist-turned-ally up with strange meat tentacles and now he's acting fun casual and friendly about having a friendly little game of magic tag with her. this whole scene was a fantastic introduction to him, because it very quickly established that there was a lot more going on under the surface

...as a sub-answer to this, the fact that his actual first moment appearing onscreen was when he sat there wheezing like a dying animal and then brightly said, "just a moment, Lilith!" like it was nbd is SO funny to me

-the whole conversation he and Hunter have in s2e9 but especially the part where Hunter outright asks him if he's being punished for failing and Philip spends that second or so just utterly blank-faced as his brain visibly buffers to come up with a response to Hunter going so off-script

-disguising himself as a baby version of himself in order to make Luz and Hunter trust him and also get Luz to feel sorry for and try to take care of him. special shoutout to the specific bit where he sets some shit on fire and can't contain his spooky haunted doll glee about it.

-when he for real on screen told Kikimora "kys lol." most iconic Philip bitch moment. he had been holding that one in for decades and he was so happy to finally be able to just be awful to people again. Peepaw needed this.

-getting hit by a car in the human realm.

imo ducktales, even in the reboot, is really lacking in asian representation. if i remember correctly, most of them are one off characters/villains. while im glad that the few asian characters that are in the reboot aren't just gross stereotypes (like the dragon lady duck...eeugh), i wish that the asian characters had a larger role in the story.

yeah, like liu hai in particular feels like he couldve come out of the 80s show lol like especially considering we had an entire ep in japan you’d expect a little more than the creepy villain and the anime cop

*edit: i forgot gandra cuz i was specifically thinking east asian which is my bad and i guess gandra’s va being pakistani/indian means she could be both or either (or neither technically) but her coloring definitely makes her seem south asian

dt17 was rly good for giving us more latino characters but other than that its not exactly a shining example of representation. i dont hold it against em cuz obviously disney wouldnt let them change any major/iconic characters too much

do you know anything about honey the cat? she was in one of my favorite tiny toons episodes.

i actually had to look this up, i had no idea they made her a cat (thank god they did LOL)! honey the cat is based off of honey, bosko’s love interest and minnie  mouse ripoff. they were the first stars of the studio, from 1930-1933! if my memory serves correctly, she was voiced by rochelle hudson?

i’m really glad they changed her into a cat, because she (and bosko) were actually both blackface caricatures initially. (they phased out the stereotypes pretty quickly, making them both mickey and minnie clones, but the designs speak for themselves.) hugh harman and rudy ising left WB in 1933 and headed off to MGM, where they redesigned bosko and honey to be more humanlike (and thusly more caricatured)--i’m not sure of the exact year they both got faded out, but i don’t think they ever made it to 1940.

though i’ve reviewed all of the bosko cartoons, i don’t think i have a very large repertoire of videos... i did manage to find this though if you’re curious to hear what she sounded like (literally just minnie mouse)

that’s interesting, i completely forgot tiny toons ever referenced bosko and honey in the first place!! their designs are much cuter

im okay with the finale. i didn't like the clone thing much.

but i hated the scene where may and june start arguing with webby about how scrooge and the mcducks aren't webby's 'real family'. it feels pointless now that webby is confirmed to be a scrooge clone, and is considered his heir. why did they have to have that the scene in there if they were gonna do that anyways? it just felt very mean spirited to me. it reminded me of when i would talk about my own family, and people would get super invasive.

i mean may and june were under orders from bradford to specifically try and convince webby to come with them, so it was definitely intended to be mean spirited (especially in contrast to how scrooge and the boys have referred to webby as part of the family since s2). they were being purposefully cruel and manipulative which is sad for webby cuz she really wanted them to be good

may and june didnt really get a proper redemption but i guess donald and daisy will rehabilitate them on this several month long boat trip. teach them about morals and selflessness and whatnot. donald is a good choice for that
