Eintrag ins Gästebuch der Stadt Neukirchen-Vluyn

Am 23. Mai 2023 machte das amtierende Klompenkönigspaar Kurt und Petra von Zabiensky dem Bürgermeister der Stadt Neukirchen-Vluyn, Ralf Köpke, seine Aufwartung, um sich ins Gästebuch der Stadt einzutragen. Dies ist für das Paar einer der letzten Amtshandlungen als Königspaar der Vluyner Klompenfreunde, bevor der Endspurt mit dem Höhepunkt „Klompenball“ für sie beginnt. Am Kirmesmontag, 5. Juni 2023, geht für das Klompenkönigpaar Kurt und Petra das Jahr ihrer Regentschaft zu Ende. Mit viel Engagement, herzlicher Freude und Spaß haben sie ihr Amt ausgefüllt und eine Vielzahl von kleineren und größeren Begebenheiten mit ihrer Anwesenheit bereichert und damit die Vluyner Klompenfreunde und auch die Stadt Neukirchen-Vluyn würdig vertreten. Mit einem lachenden und einem weinenden Auge werden sie nun beim Klompenball ihre Königsinsignien an das nächste, noch streng geheime Paar, weitergeben. Book5 | The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas – John Boyne

The Holocaust drama relates the horror of a Nazi extermination camp through the eyes of two 8-year-old boys; Bruno (Butterfield), the son of the camp's Nazi commandant, and Shmuel (Jack Scanlon), a Jewish inmate. The film has drawn criticism from some Holocaust educators for its factual inaccuracy.

Plot:

The film opens with the quote "Childhood is measured out by sounds and smells and sights, before the dark hour of reason grows", by John Betjeman. A young boy named Bruno lives with his family in Berlin, in Nazi Germany during World War II. He learns that his father Ralf has been promoted, due to which their family, including Bruno's mother Elsa and sister Gretel, relocate to the "countryside" (occupied Poland). Bruno hates his new home as there is no one to play with and very little to explore. After commenting that he has spotted people working on what he thinks is a farm in the distance (but, unbeknownst to the innocent Bruno, is actually a concentration camp), he is also forbidden from playing in the back garden.

Bruno and Gretel get a private tutor, Herr Liszt, who pushes an agenda of antisemitism and Nazi propaganda. This, together with Gretel's infatuation with one of the lieutenants, causes Gretel to become extremely fanatical in her support for the Third Reich, to the point of covering her bedroom wall with Nazi propaganda posters and portraits of Adolf Hitler. Bruno is confused as the Jew he has seen, the family's Jewish servant Pavel, does not resemble the anti-Semitic caricatures in Liszt's teachings.

One day, Bruno disobeys his parents and sneaks off into the woods, eventually arriving at a barbed wire fence surrounding a camp. He befriends a boy his own age named Shmuel. The pair's lack of knowledge on the true nature of the camp is revealed: Bruno thinks that the striped uniforms that Shmuel, Pavel, and the other prisoners wear are pyjamas and Shmuel believes his grandparents died from an illness during their journey to the camp. Bruno starts meeting Shmuel regularly, sneaking him food and playing board games with him. He eventually learns that Shmuel is a Jew and was brought to the camp with his father and mother.

One day, Elsa discovers the reality of Ralf's assignment after Lieutenant Kurt Kotler lets slip that the black smoke coming from the camp's chimneys is due to the burning corpses of Jews. She confronts Ralf, disgusted and heartbroken. At dinner that night, Kotler admits that his father had left his family and moved to Switzerland. Upon hearing this, Ralf tells Kotler that he should have informed the authorities of his father's disagreement with the current political regime as it was his duty. The embarrassed Kotler then becomes infuriated with Pavel for accidentally spilling a glass of wine and violently beats him. The next morning the maid, Maria, is seen scrubbing the blood stains.

Later that day, Bruno sees Shmuel working in his home. Shmuel is there to clean wine glasses because they needed someone with small hands to do it. Bruno offers him some cake and willingly Shmuel accepts it. Unfortunately, Kotler happens to walk into the room where Bruno and Shmuel are socialising. Kotler is furious and yells at Shmuel for talking to Bruno. In the midst of his scolding, Kotler notices Shmuel chewing the food Bruno gave him. When Kotler asks Shmuel where he got the food, he says Bruno offered the cake, but Bruno, fearful of Kotler, denies this. Believing Bruno, Kotler tells Shmuel that they will have a "little chat" later. Distraught, Bruno goes to apologise to Shmuel, but finds him gone. Every day, Bruno returns to the same spot by the camp but does not see Shmuel. Eventually, Shmuel reappears behind the fence, sporting a black eye. Bruno apologises and Shmuel forgives him, renewing the friendship.

After the funeral of his grandmother, who was killed in Berlin by an Allied bombing, Ralf tells Bruno and Gretel that their mother suggests that they go to live with a relative because it is not safe there. In truth, Elsa suggests this because she does not want her children living with their murderous father. Shmuel has problems of his own; his father has gone missing after those with whom he participated in a march did not return to the camp. Bruno decides to redeem himself by helping Shmuel find his father. The next day, Bruno, who is due to leave that afternoon, dons a striped prisoners' outfit and a cap to cover his unshaven head, and digs under the fence to join Shmuel in the search. Bruno soon discovers the true nature of the camp after seeing the many sick and weak-looking Jews, much to his shock. While searching, the boys are taken on a march with other inmates by Sonderkommandos.

At the house, Gretel and Elsa discover Bruno's disappearance. After they discover the open window he went through, Elsa bursts into Ralf's meeting to alert him that Bruno is missing. Ralf and his men mount a search. Led by a dog tracking Bruno's scent they find his discarded clothing outside the fence. Elsa and Gretel are following along behind. Ralf enters the camp, looking for him. Bruno, Shmuel and the other inmates are stopped inside a changing room and are told to remove their clothes for a "shower". They are packed into a gas chamber, where Bruno and Shmuel hold each other's hands. A soldier pours the gas inside, and the prisoners start panicking, yelling and banging on the metal door. When Ralf realises that a gassing is taking place, he cries out his son's name, and Elsa and Gretel, outside the camp but at the spot where Bruno left his clothes and dug the hole, hear Ralf's cries and fall to their knees in despair and mourn Bruno. The film ends by showing the closed door of the now silent gas chamber, indicating that all prisoners, including Bruno and Shmuel, are dead.

Kooperationsvereinbarung mit Vivawest verlängert

Die Stadt Duisburg, die Entwicklungsgesellschaft Duisburg mbH (EG DU) und das Wohnungsunternehmen VIVAWEST haben die seit vielen Jahren erfolgreiche Kooperation rund um das Quartiersmanagement im Dichterviertel für drei weitere Jahre verlängert. Aus diesem Anlass trafen sich Oberbürgermeister Sören Link sowie Carsten Tum, Geschäftsführer der EG DU, mit VIVAWEST-Geschäftsführer Dr. Ralf Brauksiepe und Uwe Goemann, Geschäftsführer der Vivawest Stiftung in der Kindertagesstätte Kurt-Spindler-Straße. VIVAWEST brachte die Zusage mit, dass die Stiftung die Quartiersarbeit bis einschließlich 2022 mit 52.000 Euro im Jahr unterstützen wird. Die Stadt Duisburg finanziert die Kooperation mit 45.000 Euro jährlich. Oberbürgermeister Sören Link freut sich über die Vertragsverlängerung: „Die gemeinsame Arbeit trägt entscheidend zur Verbesserung der Wohn- und Lebensqualität im Dichterviertel bei und soll aus diesem Grund auch weiter bestehen.“ „Als eines der führenden deutschen Wohnungsunternehmen hat VIVAWEST auch eine soziale Verantwortung. Begegnungen und Momentaufnahmen 2019 - 3 von 8 Das neue Jahr hat längst begonnen. Gerne und dankbar denke ich aber an die vielen schönen Momente, Erlebnisse und Erfahrungen zurück, die mir die vergangenen zwölf Monate geschenkt haben. Ich gratuliere @chr_ney an dieser Stelle nochmals zu seiner Wahl zum Ersten Beigeordneten, noch herzlicher aber sind meine Glückwünsche an ihn und seine Frau Stefanie zur Geburt ihrer Tochter Lina. Glückwünsche gehen auch an meine liebe Freundin Margit Drescher, mit der ich weiterhin im Gemeinderat zusammenarbeiten darf und die als Beigeordnete der Gemeinde ebenfalls einen tollen Job macht. Ich denke zurück an meine tolle Aktion mit den Kindern der FGTS, mit denen ich Blumen für Bienen und Hummeln ausgesät habe und an die Besichtigung der innovativen bifacialen Photovoltaikanlage in Dirmingen mit dem Umweltausschuss des Landtages und mit lieben Kolleginnen und Kollegen wie Sarah Gillen, Petra Fretter, Timo Mildau, Günter Heinrich und auch Ralf Georgi. Nicht weniger gerne denke ich an die Einweihung der neuen Straßenmeisterei Merzig mit meinem engagierten Kollegen und Freund Frank Wagner, die für mich zu einer kleinen Reise in meine eigene Vergangenheit als Straßenwärter wurde und bei der ich nach Jahrzehnten frühere Kollegen wie Arno Gaspers, Kurt Lackas, Joachim Krivograd und Frank Philippi wiedersehen durfte. 2019 brachte aber auch ganz tolle Moment gemeinsam mit meinen Freunden vom Hospizteam Illtal e.V. wie Vera Paul, Jürgen Doods, Marlene Busch, Stephan Schwinn, Claudia Groß-Lorang und Josef Wilhelm, denen ich für ihr großes Engagement in der ambulanten Hospizarbeit unendlich dankbar bin. Dankbar bin ich auch für die tolle Kinder- und Jugendarbeit, die die Vereine in unserer Gemeinde und im ganzen Saarland leisten. Stellvertretend für alle sei hier die Jugendwehr unserer Freiwilligen Feuerwehr erwähnt. Viel Spaß gemacht hat im vergangenen Jahr natürlich auch wieder der Besuch des Europa-Parks in Rust mit meiner Familie und meinem guten Freund Stefan Trageser, der wirklich immer da iat, wenn man ihn braucht. The taste of Rebellion - chapter 19:

[I'm finally back at it after a long time! Sorry if you had to wait sooo long, but I went through a very stressful period!]

Once again was time for Johnny to move; taking advantage of Alice's house made him feel guilty and uncomfortable.

But where could he go without anyone to trust or any direction to follow?

He even felt betrayed by his teammates and their families: how could a smart, honest and loyal friend like Ralf ignore the puzzle of facts that destroyed every certainty the young Scot had?

Same for the Majestics captain's earnest father, who kept quiet.

Trustworthy people like the Tornatores were guilty by association as well, for they never said a word about Sir Stuart McGregor's despicable action, although they were capable of smashing his reputation.

And friends underline mistakes, if they are real, just like Olivier during the match against BBA, or Gad when he triggered Liam in order to prevent him from binge drinking.

His ship went down in a sea of sound. When he woke up alone he owned just a handful of moments he wished he could change.

The Majestics were never friends to him.

If he only realized all that before.

As a child.

He knew neither where to go, nor who he was, and tried to find strength in people who never thought about a different way of life.

It seemed all but easy.

He saw no hope and no life he should have had.

He didn't have answers and questions multiplied every time he tried to solve the enigma.

Johnny left Alice's house after midnight, when everyone else was sleeping. There lived a family from Jamaica, an Ukrainian single lady and a retired truck driver who didn't seem ready to help him and other people from the street were even worse: squatters would have refused an offspring going through his edgy phase and other homeless men were half criminals. While Johnny was crossing the road Mr Ginger followed him and rubbed against his jeans: "sorry to disappoint you, but I'm feeling so confused" whispered he, accepting its company anyway. It was way better than loneliness and cats spoke no human language. Its Orange fur was a small sunset underneath a red light casting a shadow that reminded him the colour of an almost dismissed cottage...

Johnny walked, trying to remember the way to the graveyard with Mr Ginger in his jacket.

Hoping to be lucky was useless; he never believed in such things.

After a slow and apparently endless distance, he spotted those sinister gates, fearing for ghosts, zombies and creatures like the darkbladers, but he swore to visit Maryanne.

How was she? And her stone? Only her parents brought her flowers.

Johnny avoided to enter, though many of his classmates climbed up so as to get labelled as brave by Bruce Wallis. Other challenges to be his friends consisted of drinking ten shots without losing control and invade the girl's private school searching jewellery or underwear. Johnny and Bruce's rivalry began actually last year, when the redhead replied his selection was ridiculous and got accused by everyone of cowardice. They weren't beybladers, therefore he could only ignore them. Thinking about those minions climbing up distracted him for a while. Neither them nor their boss were brilliant, but Worthington Institute worked like an Italian Mafia system. Giancarlo told him about bosses'actions to buy silence and Liam believed some celebrities were purposely murdered for they didn't fit in the industry, like Kurt Cobain or Prince.

What if he shared his destiny with them?

No way

His profile was too low. He had only bitten Maroon 5's lead singer back in 2014 after some declarations that objectified Maryanne and got nicknamed "Suarez"; media and Twitter went crazy because there was blood and drama was different from the 00s.

As he continued to walk, a tiny architecture gained visibility in the dawn. Johnny's feet were damn cold and the dirt under his toe nails was impossible to remove. Fresh asphalt made him forget about every other smell and he could only hear his own steps.

The life lead by Scott and Caroline was calm enough to keep him safe from the curious ones. He jumped the fence, landing in their garden; he wasn't as athletic and fit as before. Meanwhile Mr Ginger Sat on the window shelf. A flowery curtain shifted and revealed an empty kitchen behind the glass. Johnny heard a lock's dull noise.

"Thieves?! Get oot! I'm not afraid!" A poker was pointing exactly his face. He tried to move backwards so as to leave, but daylight helped Caroline to identify him: "In the name of the wee man! Long time no see!" She couldn't resist dragging him in and ran to wake her husband up; she was definitely a morning person: "It's him! Scott, it's him! That laddie we met in front of Maryanne's tombstone!"

"Are you sure?" Scott yawned, but he was visibly shaking.

Why did he come to their house?

Johnny told them his detailed story, beginning with the night he heard his fake parents mentioning Angus and promised to help through house chores for a place to stay. He kept tight lipped about Liam, knowing the Maddens were holding grudge towards him.

He embraced the servant's role one more time, although he used to do nothing.

The following day he was already up at 6:00 am in order to rake up dead leaves and prepare breakfast for his saviours. The afternoon was for painting the wooden fence with Scott.

During rainy days he cleaned up corners that Caroline couldn't reach anymore and polished silverware. His favourite activity, however, was removing dust from Maryanne's photographs.

"Which name did she pick for her child?" Asked Johnny once.

"Jane, in case of a a baby girl; Jane Eyre was her favourite book. Or John, for she agreed with John Lennon's pacifism..." Caroline didn't talk too much so as to avoid emotional break downs, but she said enough to move something inside Johnny's brain.

He was sure to be in the right place.

El Festival de Glyndebourne va encarregar al compositor australià Brett Dean (Brisbane 23 d’octubre de 1961) una nova òpera per l’edició del 2017 i aquesta ha acabat sent un nou Hamlet de Shakespeare, en l’enèsim intent per acabar tenint la versió de referència de la cabdal obra de l’escriptor anglès. Aquesta és la seva segona òpera després que l’any 2010 estrenés al teatre de l’òpera de Sindney una versió de l’obra de  Peter Care, Bliss.

Per aquest Hamlet ha comptat amb el llibret de Matthew Jocelyn que ha concentrat tota l’acció en dos actes i 13 personatges.

A Glyndebourne no han estalviat recursos per aquesta estrena després de 20 anys de la darrera Misper de John Lunn (1997). La direcció musical ha anat  a càrrec del director musical del mateix festival des de 2001 fins a 2013, el rus Vladimir Jurowski (des de 2014 el director és Robin Ticciati), mentre que la direcció escènica ha anat a càrrec del director teatral australià Neil Armfield, responsable de les produccions operístiques de l’òpera de Sidney:  Jenůfa, The Eighth Wonder, Tristan und Isolde, Billy Budd i un nou cicle complert del Ring wagnerià.

La proposta intel·ligent d’Armfield reelabora escenes, talla, canvia de lloc i tot queda perfectament explicat, insisteixo que amb una font de inspiració tan teatralment immillorable, és difícil esgarrar res. L’acabat és elegant en el disseny escenogràfic i de vestuari, i brillant en el treballs amb els cantants i actors.

Pel que fa a l’equip vocal, reuneix un bon grapat cantants de prestigi, la sempre estratostèrica Barbara Hannigan que està en totes les estrenes de prestigi, Clayton, Connolly, Begley Tomlinson, Imbrailo (sensacional Billy Budd a Glyndebourne l’any 2010), els dos genials contratenors Rupert Enticknap i Christopher Lowrey.

La música de Brett Dean no és fàcil, però tampoc impossible, utilitza un ventall amplíssim d’efectes sonors i efectes electrònics en escenes concretes (com l’aparició del fantasma) repartits per la sala i com que la producció funciona perquè el llibret es fonamenta en una obra excepcional que sembla mentida que no hagi tingut més sort en la història de l’òpera, la música en moltes ocasions sembla una banda sonora perquè acompanya amb encert l’adaptació del llibret Hi ha moments lírics molt interessants i com acostuma a passar en l’òpera contemporània, es valora per el gran treball orquestral i l’exigència vocal, però el cant em sembla massa sovint poc interessant, deu ser per el gran bagatge operístic del gran repertori que va del segle XVIII als inicis del XX i que forma un deliciós encotillament, difícil de superar.

Barbara Hannigan brilla enmig d’un repartiment extraordinàriament ben treballat i amb resultats esplèndids. La soprano canadenca desplega els seus imponents mitjans  amb resultats enlluernadora, i la gran escena d’Ofèlia és un dels grans moments de l’òpera i tot sembla girar al seu entorn, però també estan perfectes Clayton, Connolly o el caduc Tomlinson,

Hi ha un treball imponent, en una producció important, però em temo que continuarem esperant la versió operística del Hamlet shakesperià.

Sé que molts del que visiteu el blog diàriament no sou gaire amants de la música contemporània i per tant hagués estat més fàcil per a mi parlar-vos d’una altra Carmen, ara a París amb Garanca i Alagna, però aquí sempre m’ha agradat portar l’actualitat i si no parlem de la música que es fa ara estem condemnats al fracàs.
