Tiffany & Co.- Rich History & American Staple of Quality
Widely regarded as the “Diamond Authority,” and today’s trusted location for luxury gift-giving, Tiffany & Co. is responsible for a lot of firsts for America. The brand would change standards and traditions for years to come. The brand has a rich history of impacting both the jewelry and design worlds, inspiring tastemakers today with over 200 stores worldwide.
Charles Lewis Tiffany and John B. Young first established their New York City Stationary and gift shop in 1837, with a small loan from Charles’ father of only $1000. They deemed it a “Stationery and Fancy Goods Emporium,” selling stationary, glassware, porcelain, cutlery and clocks. In 1841 the shop began to expand, and would specialize in Bohemian glass and porcelain. The two quickly gained a lot of prestige for their work, often credited as selling the finest quality goods.
Eventually the two would enter the world of jewelry manufacturing. Their style was simple, clean and sophisticated, a departure from the classic Victorian style, which boasted a lavish and opulent appearance. By 1850, the company's continued expansion prompted a name change to Tiffany & Co., the brand we know and love today. They opened branches in London and Paris and relocated their New York City location to 5th Avenue.
The Atlas clock was installed above the 5th Avenue location in 1853 to accompany the Art Deco style of the building. The clock itself is represented as the world upon the shoulders of Atlas. It was credited as being the most accurate clock in New York City and the term “New York minute” is a reference to its exactness. People all over New York would set their watches to match, proof that Charles Tiffany had established himself as a distinguished watchmaker. In 1873 he opened an 80,000 sq ft. factory in Geneva, Switzerland, combining his simple clean American style with luxury Swiss craftsmanship.
Charles Tiffany was known for his silver work as well. During the 1867 World Fair in Paris, Tiffany & Co. was prized with the gold medal for silver craftsmanship and was the first American company to apply the British Standard of metal work, using 92% pure metal. Tiffany fought to make this the norm in America, even working to enact a Federal Law that requires a 925/1000 standard for items to be eligible to be marked “sterling silver.” Tiffany & Co. silverware and silver products are all authenticated with a Tiffany & Co. stamp and date, indicating the time period.
Another of the brand’s celebrated commodities is their extremely detailed and finely crafted lamps. The very first Tiffany’s lamp was displayed in 1893, designed by one of their master designers, Clara Driscoll. The lamp shades are made of glass and the base is typically made of brass. In some rare cases, the base is either enameled or mosaic. These finely crafted pieces of home decor are all made by hand, in an arduous process with a painstaking attention to detail, carefully selecting each piece of glass from thousands of sheets. The bases and lamp shades are interchangeable. The Pondi Lamp, pictured below, was made in the early 20th century and originally retailed for $400. In December of 2018 it sold for $3,372,500.
Although Tiffany & Co. is known for it’s silverware and handmade lamps, they are best known for their jewelry, pairing timeless luxury design with the hue of their infamous Tiffany Blue. In 1845, the first Tiffany Blue Book was published. It was the first product catalog to be distributed in the United States. The cover was embellished with what is now the iconic Tiffany Blue®. They copyrighted the color and use it for all their advertising and branding. Boxes, shopping bags and catalogs would all be draped in the color. The hue was meant to symbolize the importance of the experience and create a unique source of recognition between the consumer and the brand. Receiving a light blue turquoise box signified a moment of joy and anticipation. The color added significant depth to the shopping experience. One could oftentimes expect an engagement ring in the light blue box. In 1886 Tiffany introduced the Tiffany setting. The concept was to lift the diamond high off the finger, allowing the light to shine and the diamond to glimmer.
The brand was at the forefront of Jewelry making and acquiring precious gems. The most noted purchase being the French Crown Jewels and the famous yellow Tiffany Diamond. The Tiffany Diamond is the world's largest yellow diamond. The 287.42 carat stone was cut to 128.54 carats with 82 facets by gemologist Dr. George Frederick Kunz. This rare gem cost $18,000 and garnered Charles Tiffany the title “King of Diamonds.” It was only worn by only 3 people, the first being Mary Whitehouse, who wore the diamond for the Tiffany ball in 1957.
Audry Hepburn was the second to wear the diamond in the heavily acclaimed romantic comedy, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” In 1961 she was adorned with this gem, set in a ribbon style necklace sparkling with white diamonds for the promotion of the film. The latest public figure to wear the diamond was singer/songwriter, Lady Gaga, during her 2019 Oscar debut.
Whether it be silverware, handmade lamps, or fine Jewelry, if it has the Tiffany & Co. branding, it’s sure to stand out. What was once a stationary gift shop is today an international brand. Shop our gallery’s selection of Tiffany & Co. goods in both the “Decoration” and “Jewelry” sections of our website!

99% Invisible Response
Episode 347 "The Many Deaths of a Painting" explains the tragedy of an abstract painting by Barnett Newman. The painting was displayed in a museum and received constant criticism to the point where visitors would feel physically sick by just looking at it. A visitor at the museum went as far as to attack it, and it would not be the last tragedy this painting would go through.
The episode changed my view on abstract art; initially, I thought abstract art was too simple and lacked substance to make the viewer feel something. However, abstract art can make people feel lost or even anger - the most common emotion people tend to have when looking at abstract art. Additionally, I felt hurt when I heard that someone attacked the painting - even though I do not particularly like abstract art, it is still art. Problem solving is a skill we are going to learn and improve in this class, and I think this episodes highlights the problem solving skills required when a painting needs to be restored.
Episode 205 "Flying Food" outlines the behind-the-scenes of filming for food commercials. When food advertisements first began, it was hard for filmographers and photographers to make food look appetizing on camera. Over time, food ads went from being conventional with little movement, to more dynamic shots where food bounced and cracked open.
It was interesting to hear about the machinery and attention to detail food stylists must have in order to make food ads more appealing. Attention to detail is not only a skill you need in advertisements but in art as well - so I can see this skill applied to our projects. Food styling is also about innovation - coming up with creative solutions to problems. I think that is another skill we will be learning and applying to this class.
Three People that Inspire Me
Fran Meneses aka frannerd
Fran inspires me because of her art journey. She has a YouTube channel where she talks about being a freelance artist, her style journey, etc. Something I have always struggled with was finding a style - my drawing style was inspired by anime for 5+ years, and she has been through that style as well. Her stylistic beginnings were the same as mine, so I find inspiration and hope that my style will change over time like her style did.
Minnie Small aka semiskimmedmin
Minnie also has a YouTube channel where she talks about being an artist. She started off working in a grocery store but realized she wanted to pursue art as a career. She kept her job to maintain financial stability and continued to build up her business and following. Similarly, I want to pursue art as a career, but I can’t quite do that yet; she inspires me to continue with my career.
Stefan Kunz aka stefankunz
One style of art I would love to do would be hand lettering, and Stefan is great at it. Like the other inspirations listed above, Stefan started off as a small artist - he was originally a banker but decided to pursue art as a career. What I take away from most if not all of my inspirations is that if want to pursue something, you can with hard work and dedication.

How I met Michael Kunze
Back at home! Sorry for the late reply but I didn’t have an access to my computer earlier.
Perhaps you saw my short post about meeting with Michael Kunze. @merinathropp asked me to tell the whole story, so here it is!
10 years ago I „infected” my friend (let’s call him Tomek) with love for Kunze’s works. Not that long ago he got a grant to write a book about Michael Kunze’s musicals. Tomek made some interviews with Vereinigten Bühnen Wien dramatists, costume designers, and so on, and finally he asked Kunze via email if he and his friend (that’s me) could talk to him. Kunze agreed and invited us to his house. We came there, both quite nervous and excited. We gave him DVDs with 2 Polish musicals to advertise our country a little. I told him that his works made me decide about my future and that I wrote my own musical because of it (and it’s actually played in a real theatre). Then we talked with him for almost 3 hours in his home-office.
On the wall was hanging a big board with drama-musical scheme. There was a lot of books about his musicals, the posters, the Broadway CD of Tanz der Vampire (I joked I thought he would burn it) and small mannequin in Mozart’s outfit.
We talked about a musical theater in general, history, nationalism, Elisabeth, Mozart!, Tanz der Vampire, Marie Antoinette, Lady Bess and other topics. I don’t know if those things appeared in other interviews, but here are some TdV informations that may interest you:
- Magda was supposed to be a Bertold Brecht-ish character. She shouldn’t be that emotional in the “Tot zu sein ist komisch” scene. - He once again confirmed that the whole „die Unstillbare Gier” is fake. Actually, this song is a parody of Faust and its I-would-give-anything-for-one-happy-moment message. - Krolock is like Freddy Mercury - he uses a lot of pretended theatrical pathos, he is a showman. We know it, but we still think it’s amazing. - I asked him my very-fan-question: how does relationship between Herbert and Krolock looks like. He said he never thought of it and that they are just father and son (obviously). - The falling castle in the old ending is like a beehive. When someone destroys it, the bees - or vampires - spread all over the world. - He said that he likes the old TdV version better, because it is more Polanski’s than the new one. - Herbert appears in Carpe Noctem just because they needed his kind of voice in the song. - For now there is no actor who would be able to play Krolock as the author intended. The ideal actor should play a vampire who only plays his dramatic sorrow and the audience should get it. Kunze tells this to all Krolock-actors but they just can’t do this OR they can’t resist the temptation of being tragic on stage.
At the end we took some pictures with Kunze and said goodbye.
What can I say? I still can’t believe I’ve met the man whose works literally changed my life :)
PS. Tomek’s book will be released in Polish AND English so if you are interested, I may let you know when it happens.

Ethanol can be made in a variety of ways. The hydrolysis and sugar fermentation processes can generate bioethanol, an environmentally benign and renewable variation of ethanol. As bioethanol is made entirely of biological sources, it produces cleaner emissions when it is burned (carbon dioxide, steam, and heat). Due to this new creation and energy combustion cycle, bioethanol has the potential to be a carbon-neutral fuel. Bioethanol can be used to replace petroleum-based products. Several countries use bioethanol mixed gasoline. Ethylene obtained from petroleum is also used to make synthetic ethanol. Both bioethanol and manufactured Ethanol have the same chemical formula and are chemically indistinguishable.

Staff Perspective: Sober Curiosity
Originally posted on Futures Recovery Healthcare
vimeo
Futures’ Outreach and Community Liaison, Laura Kunz, describes sober curiosity and its benefits. Kunz suggests that one of the most positive aspects of the sober curious movement is that it encourages people to mindfully consider how alcohol affects their health, mood, and relationships. Mindfulness plays a significant part in lasting recovery. As behavioral healthcare practitioners, the Futures Recovery Healthcare team commends those who choose to pursue abstinence and make thoughtful choices about using substances.
SOBER CURIOSITY, MOCKTAILS, AND MINDFULNESS – IS SOBRIETY TRENDING?
Written By: Laura Kunz
I made the decision to live sober in 2008. With the help of a community support group and a series of great outpatient therapists, I began changing myself and my lifestyle. I remember my last drink. I was at a PF Changs in Cincinnati a few days before Thanksgiving having dinner with my best friend since the third grade. We both ordered a glass of wine. After about halfway through the glass I started to feel what had once been the warm and fuzzy feeling of the beginning of a buzz. After years of highschool, college, and early 20-something alcohol misuse, that feeling was no longer a comfort. It was more like the doors of a jail cell being slammed shut and locked for an indefinite period of time. I pushed the half-full glass of wine away. I was done with alcohol.
I cannot say learning to live alcohol-free was easy. There were many times when I wanted to use alcohol to numb, celebrate, participate, or distract. At around three months sober, I was having a career and family-of-origin induced mini-meltdown at a gas station in Fort Lauderdale, where I was living at the time. As I pumped gas into my car, I remember thinking “I’ll just walk inside, buy a bottle of wine and a 12-pack of beer, go home and drink.” I immediately called a sober support and shared my plan. I screamed, “I just want to drink!” She calmly said “okay, then drink.” It was in that moment that I realized how committed I was to living this new way. Despite the way that I felt, alcohol would not improve my mood or circumstances. If I chose to walk through it all sober and feel and process my feelings, I had a chance to positively influence the outcome.
Ironically, when I pulled away from the gas station that night, I’d accidentally left the pump in my gas tank. As the gas sprayed everywhere and the attendant ran out to collect a hefty check, I laughed hysterically. I was living fully present in a moment of total chaos and surrender and I felt truly alive and grateful.
Fast forward eleven years. Mindfulness and living in the moment are household phrases and gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free, and now even alcohol-free are on-trend. If you’d told me back in 2008 that sober curious and abstinence would ever be a “thing,” I truly wouldn’t have believed you.
I believe sober curiosity, also known as mindful drinking, is an incredibly important and enlightened movement. It encourages awareness of the reasons why we drink as a society. “Am I trying to change a feeling or circumstance?” “Do I not want to feel or deal?” “Am I bored?” “Do I not think I can connect and build relationships without alcohol?” “Do I need to make changes in my life but don’t know how so I numb the feelings of doubt and fear?”
It also encourages awareness of the effect’s alcohol can have on the body and the mind. “I need to keep my gut and body healthy to achieve my fitness goals.” “When I drink, I focus less and I am less productive.” “I sleep better when I don’t drink” “I connect with the world and with people in a deeper way when I am sober.”
Sober curiosity increases self-awareness, self-control, and may help prevent the development of substance use disorders, which are rapidly on the rise in this country year after year.
Speaking of substance use disorders: Do I think sober curiosity or mindful drinking is enough for someone who is battling an active addiction? No, I believe abstinence is the best solution once a substance use disorder and problem drinking pattern has been developed. Due to the way addiction acts in the brain, the only way to change addictive patterns and behaviors is proper treatment, abstinence, and a consistent program of recovery.
Yet, the sober curious trend is certainly helping progress the recovery movement as a whole, which greatly benefits individuals who live abstinent or who will eventually live abstinent. It normalizes living alcohol-free and promotes conversation about health and wellness-centered lifestyles. Additionally, it has prompted many sober celebrities to speak out publicly about the benefits of recovery and popular national brands to launch products promoting sober curious and abstinent living. For example, Coca Cola’s new brand Bar None advertises “spirits without spirits” and many popular restaurants in major US markets are adding a variety of alcohol-free mocktails to their menus. Sober bars are also increasing in popularity such as the Sans Bar in Austin, Texas or Listen Bar in New York, New York.
Perhaps, a decade from now sober will not only be “sexy,” but it will be a fully integrated part of societal norms.

Tanz der Vampire St. Gallen - Act 2 Spoiler Review
I am back with Act 2 of the St. Gallen production! Oh wow, to be honest, I never actually expected the previous one to be THAT long. But oh well, let us see how this one works out. Act 1 actually has even more changes than Act 2 and I actually happen to like quite a lot of them. But then there are some, where I just have to facepalm and think to myself: WHY? But what am I saying? Let’s get into details. As in the previous post, this review is full of spoilers, so for everyone who would like to see the St. Gallen production totally without any knowledge, you can turn away right here! Everybody else...let’s go :D
Totale Finsternis: The second act starts in the most neogothic, Twilighty way possible. Remember that dark overview of the castle in the original production? Well, get ready for shaky cameras in a forest, crosses, lightning strikes, RED EYES, UUUUUHUUUUUU! Another unintentionally funny moment for me XD Then we FINALLY get rid of the screen and make way for the stage. And boy, IS THIS A DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE. And I don’t mean this in a bad way. I actually found that a lot of this Totale Finsternis posed some interesting creative decisions, some of which I actually support. So, first thing, the stage: There are two areas: A gallery-esque thing with one big painting that sings the “Sei bereit...” chorus. This is where Sarah is. Krolock on the other hand is high above her in a second area. This area has a gazillion load of candles. Krolock sits at a piano and actually plays the tune of Totale Finsternis while singing to Sarah. Thomas Borchert really gets to show off his piano skills in this scene XD The entire first part of Totale Finsternis comes from him playing it in-character. He is also dressed in a red coat that looks similar to Krolock’s movie costume. And Krolock looking older in this version really does remind a bit of Ferdy Mayne in this scene. There is also a small staircase through which Sarah gets to Krolock. He rises up from his piano and is about to bite her. This is a place where I would really have welcomed a script change again. Because in this version, Krolock sounds like he almost doesn’t want to bite her, but then he talks about all of the lust and how he needs to be patient and all. So yeah, Totale Finsternis was actually really not that bad :D
Carpe Noctem: This is where the leather costumes actually make more sense because the vampires do actually seem more dangerous like that. It actually starts with the bed being somewhere in the background, with the first Nightmare Solo crawling out of the floor. The bed later gets moved and dragged around the entire stage. What I DO like about this version is that Alfred is much more the focus here. He is always there, trying to save Sarah, who at some point I think even goes away from the stage for a few moments. This Carpe Noctem genuinely feels like a nightmare of modern day vampires. Unfortunately, this is the case for the Nightmare Solos. While the first one sounds fantastic, the second one...I really don’t like that singing style. But overall, it was a good Carpe Noctem rendition.
Ein perfekter Tag: Nothing really changed that much here, at least nothing that’s worth mentioning. It’s the same scene just with modern clothes and a younger professor.
Für Sarah: Due to the show’s direction with Sarah, this song kinda has a bittersweet feel to it. In this version, it is REALLY obvious that Sarah is not interested in Alfred at all, but Alfred doesn’t see this. Therefore, he is basically singing for a lost cause. He clearly loves her. She is annoyed with him.
Die Gruft: Alright, people, brace yourselves, for here comes the biggest change that this version brought with it! First of all, Abronsius gets HEADLAMPS, making him and Alfred look like cave explorers. For a brief period, this is also the only source of light on stage. Then they finally find the crypt, which looks a bit underwhelming here, to be honest. The gigantic stone sarcophaguses are replaced with smaller coffins. However, this is nothing compared what happens next. First of all, Abronsius gets stuck in such a position that he ACTUALLY CAN’T SEE the coffins this time. Wonderfully solved here. But then comes the thing: Alfred advances to the coffins, prepares to open them...except Krolock and Herbert are not in them. How do we know this? Because father, son, and Koukol are standing on the other side of the stage, watching how Alfred makes a fool of himself. Krolock was prepared for this situation. But then the question arises...what IS inside the coffins? Because Alfred clearly sees something in them! OR COULD IT BE....that Alfred was lying to the professor in this version? He could have wanted to impress Abronsius first by stating that the empty coffins are actually full. But when Abronsius ordered him to impale them, he obviously couldn’t do it and therefore lied about not being able to do it. Or DID he mean “I can’t do it because they’re not here” and Abronsius misunderstood this as cowardice? Or I don’t know, maybe Krolock put some puppets in there or dressed up some corpses and Alfred was too dull to realise that. Then comes another change: Chagal and Magda crawl out of a trapdoor on the stage, they are not actually in a coffin this time around. I find that a bit odd, but ok, if they want to go with it, sure...
Bücher: This is some interesting staging here. The library and the bathroom are located on the stage at the same time. The library is on the upper level while the bathroom is on the lower level. They are connected by a staircase. The library is a big projection this time around with only a few books physically being there, which I think is a bit of a shame. Then Alfred advances downstairs to talk to Sarah, who is sitting in a bathtub with a pink towel on her head. She is clearly completely in the Count’s grasp here, as she barely acknowledges Alfred being there. The red dress is standing behind some sort of glass vitrine.
Noch mehr Bücher: Alfred heads back up the stairs to find Abronsius, who has been reading and walking around with books this whole time. As I said, I really like the staging of library and bathroom being on at the same time as it makes for some interesting discoveries, as we see in the next bit.
Wenn Liebe in dir ist: This is where some more great changes happen XD First of all, if one looks closely, it can be seen how Herbert advances to the bath while Sarah is still in theres, she quickly gets out and exits, he gets in and he is also wearing the same pink towel on his head XD Then he starts singing, and Alfred advances down, after singing his little part. Herbert rises up from the bathtub and he is actually naked here, as the audience can clearly see his backside. Alfred is so incredibly embarrassed that he turns away, looks for a bathrobe and hands it over to Herbert so that he can dress. Now imagine this: Herbert wearing a bathrobe and a pink towel on his head dancing with Alfred. The mirror was thankfully also incorporated here. The little break in the chase scene doesn’t happen: Herbert bites the book, Alfred attempts to run, Herbert grabs him and PUSHES HIM INTO THE BATHTUB. Then he quickly jumps on Alfred, so both of them are in the bathtub now. It can’t get any more ridiculous than that XD Abronsius appears and beats Herbert away. Alfred, feeling extremely exposed and attacked, quickly gets out and they swiftly escape. I think this was a great way of changing the scene, I fully approve of this.
Sie irren, Professor: This one is also quite interesting. Alfred and Abronsius stand on a small balcony stage right and overlook and empty stage. Then Krolock appears on another balcony stage left and starts to taunt them. Except...this time he doesn’t disappear. He stays there for the second part and visibly taunts Alfred. It’s interesting to note that while he says “Alfred’s soul is already mine” he imitates Alfred’s failed attempt of impaling him in the crypt before. Then he walks away, leaving Alfred and Abronsius alone.
Ewigkeit: Alright...this is it...this is where the bad things start to happen. First of all, there are no graves, the stage is empty. The vampires just casually walk up on it and start singing their number. Ok, positives first: Herbert and Magda are both in this scene, singing along with the other vampires. Then we have Alfred and Abronsius actually watching this scene from their position. And ok, given that the vampires are much more active in this show, it makes sense that they are not crawling out of graves here. But here comes the big negative. @kahorifutunaka , you were a witness to this and I understand how you must have felt as a History student. Basically, a part of the advertisement for this show was the following: Act 1 would have the vampires dress up as modern people. Act 2 would have them dress up according to the time period they were bitten in. That’s all fine and dandy EXCEPT THE COSTUMES ARE NOT HISTORICAL AT ALL. Ok, 2 or 3 were, but THAT’S IT. NONE of the other costumes made any sense! It looked like they came straight from a carnival store! Surely the vampires must know how their time period looked like? Come on, guys! Get it right! You had ONE JOB. It’s not THAT hard to look up historically correct costumes, but you totally missed that here! Also...this song loses a big part of his meaning due to the modern setting. In the original version, they were hiding in the dark, lurking in the shadows, waiting to take over the world. Kunze’s intention was to show at the end that the vampires HAVE taken over the world in modern times and even wanted to portray them as tax collectors, politicians and corrupt businessmen, the real bloodsuckers of today. But this song indicates that they still haven’t got there. This is where script changes would have been more than welcome again. They could have sung about how humans were falling for them all the time and how they ARE the rulers of this world. But nope, instead, we got a carnival trope running around an empty stage. Also, they don’t exit through the audience here but through the orchestra pit.
Die unstillbare Gier: I have mentioned the atrocious ball costumes, yeah? Well, here comes Krolock. Oh boy...what have they done to him here? XD He is wearing a long red cape with a ridiculously gigantic collar. Then he still wears all read and huge brown boots. This costume looks like it has been smashed together from many different time periods. It looks like “Dracula meets the three musketeers” in the worst way possible! Jesus Christ, whoever designed that costume, please, I would really want an explanation for this. But then...even though it was an empty stage and Krolock looked like he just escaped a circus, this was one of the best acted Giers I have ever seen. Krolock is not as stoic as in the original production. Here he is howling and screaming in despair. But at the end, it gets ruined a bit because again, unchanged lyrics: The original version is set before the year 2000. It made sense for Krolock to speak his dark prophecy about the next millenium. Here however it makes it look like he is talking about the year 3000. I mean, how hard can it be to change a few words. In fact, here: “Prophezeit war’s euch schon lange, doch wiederhol’ ich’s heut und hier: Nun, da endlich das neue Jahrtausend beginnt, ist der einzige Gott, dem jeder dient, die unstillbare Gier!” I’m not claiming this to be a perfect rewrite, but it makes more sense than what they did. There is also another thing I would like to add: Alfred and Abronsius watch this scene as well, which I really think is a smart decision. That way they can see all of the vampiric sides.
Tanzsaal: This is also quite an interesting one. First of all, Alfred’s “They have feelings, just like us!” and Abronsius’ “Feelings? Nonsense. Duty calls!” exchange is picked up in this one again, THANK THE LORD FOR THAT. Finally, someone uses this part again! Bravo, St. Gallen! Then another thing happens: Koukol seems to openly invite Alfred and Abronsius to join the ball. He even gives them their costumes so they don’t knock out anyone here. Herbert even advances to them to sheepishly greet Alfred with a cat-like “raawwr” gesture. Then Krolock comes in through the doors (no staircase this time), and the vampires start dancing something that looks like a rendition of Thriller in front of him. Also, Magda is in the ballroom scene in this version, so that’s a plus too :D Sarah appears on an upper level of the stage and Krolock goes up to greet her. He bites her under the moonlight, but there is something else that I found quite interesting: They actually incorporated some classic vampire lore here. I know, it was picked up by the modern vampire shows but who cares? It was a classic vampire thing: After Krolock bites Sarah, he scratches his arm and lets Sarah drink his own blood. According to lore, this is what turns someone into a vampire. So props for that! Then we have the menuett, which I think has the same choreography as the original version, so nice to see that something from there made its way here. Then we get another surprise: Remember the human dwellers of the castle? Well, Krolock has them all lined up for dinner here. Jesus, they really should have changed the script because he still talks about “two mortals” being there for them. But nevertheless, when Krolock says “Suck them dry!” here, the vampires actually advance on and suck out all of the humans, except Alfred and Abronsius of course. Alfred doesn’t have a candelabra here. No, he takes a giant board off the wall and prepares to ram it into Krolock’s head. At this moment he looked like he wanted to say “DIE MOTHERF****!!!” Anyway, he and Abronsius use the diversion that is caused by the vampires sucking out the other humans, by forming not one, but TWO crosses, by placing two boards on two of the pillars of the ballroom, actively making the castle itself a crucifix. Now, THIS is where the Stage version, where the castle crumbles down like the One Ring had just been destroyed there, would have made more sense. And again, SCRIPT CHANGE PLEASE: Krolock still shouts “Koukol! Get rid of that thing!” even though there’s two things here now. Alfred, Abronsius and Sarah make their escape.
Draußen ist Freiheit Reprise: Alfred and Sarah sit on a staircase, while Abronsius goes to the completely opposite side of the stage to make his notes, where he actually can’t see them. I find this a bit more likely. What happens is pretty much unchanged: Sarah bites Alfred while Abronsius takes notes. But then, Sarah let’s Alfred take her blood, effectively turning him into a vampire! That was great!
Der Tanz der Vampire: And this is another scene that just loses a bit of its meaning in this version. Abronsius still sings about how he will protect the world and get the Nobel Prize, which still makes sense. But then Alfred and Sarah run away and the final song starts. Now...it doesn’t feel right here. In the original production, this was a massive time skip that indicated how vampires have triumphed over the last century and taken over the world. Here they still gloat about it but it just doesn’t have the same effect. And given that this version is already in the modern world, this feels like an afterparty after a slight inconvenience in the ballroom. And again, please, consider script changes, for the vampires should have conquered the world by now and not just be about to do it. A nice little extra was that at the end, Abronsius, Alfred and Sarah, and Krolock also appear on the upper level of the stage: Abronsius alone on a balcony, Alfred and Sarah together on the other one, and Krolock in the middle in front of the door he walked in before singing the Gier. All in all, pretty enjoyable.
So yeah, here we are. This was my spoiler talk for the St. Gallen production. Now...what can I say? It had GREAT moments like Wenn Liebe in dir ist and Totale Finsternis, it had pretty enjoyable moments like Der Tanz der Vampire and Draußen ist Freiheit, and it had downright terrible moments like all of the script mess-ups that the new version brought to the table and the ballroom costumes. It feels like wasted potential to me. A modern take on Tanz could have been SO MUCH better. Why have it in an asylum? You could have had it in a castle that was surrounded by a modern city where Krolock was running the city and the vampires were collecting “blood money” from the people. This would have been a reflection of the true bloodsuckers and would also be accurate to Kunze’s vision of today’s world ruled by bloodsuckers.
Is it good? Yeah, it’s ok, definitely an interesting take. Does everything work? OH BY FAR NOT. Would I recommend it? Actually...yes, I would. Because think about it: I might not have liked it so much but the statistics speak for a huge success of this version. Think about the possibilities: This could mean that we get to see other directors attempt their own takes on Tanz der Vampire, more non-replica productions and perhaps everyone will have their own preferred version by then, and wouldn’t that be amazing? So, the St. Gallen version, along with the Finnish and the Czech versions have started something that could evolve into so much more! And I hope we get to see more Tanz productions in the coming years. Ulrich Wiggers had a risky task, and I think he did pretty well as a director!
I will do another post where I talk about the cast in more detail, but until then...thank you for sticking around :D I had great fun writing this and I hope you had enjoyment in reading this :)

25 Runners Share the Biggest Mistakes They Made as Beginners
Running seems simple sufficient: Merely grab a pair of tennis shoes and also placed one foot in front of the other? Well, any person that's had a hard time to obtain with a mile or even the very first 5 minutes (that's right, we've been there) recognizes it's not that straightforward. The concept of running for fun or also a social activity can be strange. And also establishing an individual record in a race? That looks like it's just for the pros.
If you have actually ever taken into consideration signing up with the sweaty, endorphin-fueled tribe of runners but are also the smallest bit frightened at the thought of running a 5K or figuring out what the heck a fartlek is, we're right here to aid. We asked now-seasoned runners to admit the biggest mistakes they made as newbies to the sport, so you could prevent them as you start pounding the pavement.
1. Only Running
During my first two months of marathon prep, I didn't incorporate any kind of other kind of training besides running. My legs were regularly aching, as well as I began to hate running. I realized I had to run less as well as integrate more cross-training into my routine.-- Alyssa Arnold, marathon finisher
2. Not Relocating Article Exercise
My largest regret was plunking down on the sofa as well as not moving after my very first 10K. My legs obtained so rigid I can hardly walk for a couple of days, as well as staircases were abuse. I have actually found out to keep the blood flowing by strolling, mild extending, and also foam rolling in the hours after a hard run. It's actually assisted my recuperation!-- Jen Batista, serious 5K and also 10K jogger training to overcome the half-marathon
3. Eating New Foods Prior to a Run

I was cramping after the first 45 minutes as well as threw up later.-- Christopher Lopez, multiple marathon finisher as well as co-leader of The Surge NYC
4. Being Too Ambitious
I got excited and enrolled in a half-marathon with a few more-experienced runner close friends, but I wasn't appropriately ready and also really did not educate effectively. I ended up with blisters the size of children on my feet. I could not put on shoes for 2 days!-- Cali Lavey, leisure runner
5. Forgetting to Take Day of rest
Training excessive and not relaxing enough zapped me for months. I was exhausted, and my stoke levels for running were at an all-time low. I have actually because discovered how to run, remainder, and hold your horses more compared to being remarkable as well as radical.-- Dominic Grossman, expert runner for Injinji
6. Disregarding Your Type
I really did not do adequate kind job and stamina training until I got a few injuries. Currently I proactively do a bunch of type drills and also fortifying of the hips and glutes to stabilize out my all-natural propensity to overpronate.-- Marnie Kunz, CEO of Runstreet and run trainer
7. Attempting to Race Every Run
When I first started running, I attempted to Public Relations [run a personal document] whenever I marched the door and do speed up deal with the treadmill as often as possible. It worked great for a number of weeks-- until I obtained a stress crack.-- Ron, runner for 14 years
8. Avoiding Leg (or Hip) Day
I had IT Band syndrome throughout training due to the fact that I didn't do any hip strengthening. When I aimed to maintain running with my weak hips, I eventually wound up with a tension fracture in my back. In addition to good kind, stamina training is crucial.-- Meredith Harclerode, two-time marathon finisher
9. Believing Your Tennis shoes Are Immortal
I only bought one pair of sneakers to educate for my first marathon, assuming their shape degraded based on how lengthy you owned them, not the amount of miles you run in them. On my final 20-mile training run, I had so much swelling as well as discomfort in my feet I needed to stop. After a doctor-ordered MRI, I uncovered my tennis shoes had been "dead" for over a month. I then had a choice: to run the marathon on dead footwears or purchase new ones. I chose new footwears, but following time I train for a marathon, I will have a few footwears in turning!-- Kate Barry, four-time half-marathon finisher, one-time marathon finisher
10. Choosing not to Quit
After weeks of hardly having the ability to run due to IT band pain, I aligned for the San Diego marathon. When I found myself hindering at a 20-minute each mile slog, I still chose not to stop. I thought, "Joggers don't stop, we press with!" As a result of my 'powering via' to the coating, I could not compete 6 months. Now I know that one race or run isn't worth months of stress.-- Amanda Brooks, eight-time marathon finisher, individual instructor, and also writer of Go to the Finish
11. Not Sustaining Very carefully
I ran a military-style race as well as brought a goo packet along for fuel. It took off when I opened it mid-race, which made every little thing sticky and also smelling like a sour apple for 5 miles. Gross.-- Lavey
12. Waiting to Get Pain Examined Out
I've constantly been athletic and I've never been terribly hurt, but one day I felt a mild pain in my knee. I overlooked it for a month up until I realized I was having a tough time placing weight on my ideal leg. I ultimately went to a physician and also discovered out I had an IT band issue. It took 4 months of regular physical treatment to recover. I shouldn't have actually waited as long to obtain it looked into. I put a damper on my training, and it ended up taking longer to recover.-- Arnold

I purchased minimalist shoes without understanding exactly what minimalist also was, I felt in one's bones individuals suched as the shoes. Just what occurred? You presumed it: I finished up wounded.-- User TheRunningTroll on LetsRun.com
14. Letting Your Playlist Obtain Stale
Music helps set the speed of your run and makes it a lot more satisfying. For every single race or tough run, I learned I have to update my playlist so I can anticipate brand-new songs that help press me to the coating. Whenever I fail to remember, I can noticeably see my pace and attitude decrease.-- Arnold
15. Not Moisturizing Correctly
I chose to go out for a run throughout the most popular component of the day. At the time, I told myself that it would certainly be refreshing to sweat a little, yet I really did not bring sufficient hydration. 17. Utilizing the Same Shoes for every single Run
I ran my very first and just road marathon in a set of really structured, overbuilt, as well as cushioned route footwears. I had no idea what I was doing, but I believed I required the additional security to conserve my knees. In reconsideration, I recognize why I felt slow and also sluggish!-- Joe Grant, Buff UNITED STATE Ultrarunner
18. Assuming Resting Suffices
After experiencing some discomfort in my right knee during a half-marathon, I took off for a number of weeks. When I started long-distance training again, I had the same problem. Since I recognize exactly how to extend effectively, the majority of my IT problems are fading away.-- Mary Rose, leisure jogger as well as triathlete-in-training
19. Not Familiarizing Yourself With the Route
I have actually obtained lost and also misled more times than I can recall, so if something speaks up or looks wrong-- specifically on trails-- go back to where things looked right and also begin once again.-- Michael Wardian, runner for Injinji
20. Alleviating Running Like Other Sports
My most significant blunder was alleviating running like football technique: If I had not been worn down by the end of technique, I felt as though I really did not work hard sufficient. I 'd run all my runs at 80 percent initiative, or the equivalent of just what I currently call tempo runs. I wasn't warming up to the pace or cooling down efficiently.-- Customer stadjack at RunningAhead

... particularly "down there." During the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc ultramarathon, I had to use mud in my nether areas.-- Wardian
24. Overlooking Safety and security Measures
I neglected to change the batteries in my head lamp prior to a race that required me to run in the dark. It cost me a great deal of time.-- Michele Yates, Ultimate Instructions run ambassador
25. Not Having a Leave Plan
I did a future without a train card or cash as well as wound up getting stuck in the rainfall with no way to obtain house. I had to rest as well as wait until the rain slow down enough to see. Afterward, I got lost and wound up running an extra eight miles(!) due to the fact that I neglected my train card.-- Kunz

IEOs have sprung up to find a bypass to avoid the regulators' scrutiny. Think ICO or IEO type of crowdfunding. ICOs have come under the scrutiny and attention of Government regulators for their speculative nature and many ICOs have turned out to be total scams. IEOs have sprung up to find a bypass to avoid the regulators' scrutiny.
What is an ICO?
Initial Coin Offering often in tandem with a crowdfunding or MLM offering. Basically, you put up some money and in return, you are given tokens which are promised to become coins you can trade on the exchanges. The promoters will publish all their plans as white papers and the reason for the funding is to build out the plan, the dream the construct the technology.
But…
A new study says 80 percent of ICOs conducted in 2017 were scams. With 50% of them failing to this day within 4 months and because of this overwhelming failure rate the SEC is hammering down and investors are fleeing from them.
And to make it even worse, 86% of all surviving ICOs their coins are worth far less than the investors paid initially.
Simply put ICOs were a good idea ruined by unethical shysters preying on innocent people.
What is an IEO?
An Initial Exchange Offering, as its name suggests, is conducted on the platform of a cryptocurrency exchange. Contrary to Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs), an IEO is administered by a crypto exchange on behalf of the startup that seeks to raise funds with its newly issued tokens.
IEO participants do not send contributions to a smart contract, such as governs an ICO. Instead, they have to create an account on the exchange’s platform where the IEO is conducted. The contributors then fund their exchange wallets with coins and use those funds to buy the fundraising company’s tokens.
The biggest problem of an IEO is the core problem of too few people owning a majority of the token circulation. This happens mainly because an IEO is limited to one or several exchanges. People that don’t own an account at these exchanges are excluded from the sale, resulting in a small number of people getting their hands on the tokens. Accounts at exchanges need background checks, identity verifications, Know-Your-Customer procedures, all of which takes time. So, if you don’t have an account a day or few days before the IEO, you probably don’t have a chance at participating.
The above reason’s risk is associated with price manipulation. But constricting a coin’s circulation to a single or few exchanges opens up more possibilities for price manipulations, because no one can stop the whales. This also increases the risk of pump and dump schemes. This vulnerability will sway off many investors, because of the risks it poses. That’s why when researching the projects that you want to invest in, you have to take notice of the total token circulation. If the token supply is small and/or is distributed uneven and unfair, it’s highly susceptible to price manipulation and token hoarding.
Exchanges do their due diligence when they list a new token. Risking their reputation if they fail to do so, exchanges are very precise when they list a token, examining and researching the project’s whitepaper, product, team and more so they don’t list a scam project. The sheer abundance of scam projects stays in the way of exchanges pursuing to do an IEO. If an exchange makes an IEO, then the token will be listed easier at the exchange, which opens up vulnerability and strips the project of their obligations to deliver a good product.
Centralized exchanges like most of the big exchanges own the private keys of all wallets and making a trade or a transaction only happens on the exchange and not on the blockchain. That way, investors do not truly own their tokens and most of them don’t trust centralized exchanges. This also opens up the possibility of a failure on the exchange’s part.
When an IEO ends, the token trading starts. But because of the nature of IEO crowdfunding, people that want to invest in the project have to wait for the price to drop. Because of the fact that some investors got a big piece of the pie, these whales can choose to sell for immediate profits, destroying the price of the coin and/or profiting on the expense of small-time investors, removing the incentive to trade the token.
The ILP Not based on speculation but based on performance
Markethive’s ILP means Incentivized Loan Program. Operated independently from or in tandem with crowdfunding, the ILPs comparison to the speculative nature of the ICO and IEO ends there. Simply put the ILP means you are lending Markethive money via terms within a smart contract. With attractive interest and loan repayments based on Markethive growth milestones, the ILP also offers and incentive a perk as it is, of a token. This token is based on 1 full token equals one share of about 1000 assigned shares. These shares “share” 20% of the company’s revenue. Revenue projections are based on 4 years of operations with established growth rates in membership signups, revenue upgrades, and Alexa growth. In other words, traction.
1 full share is available at $25,000 or fractions of those shares to the single unit 100,000,000th called the BIT. 1 BIT would then be valued at .00025. $100 would acquire 400,000 BITs.
These shares can be traded but more important they will pay out their share of the 20% of the revenue for 20 years based on the ILP token and these tokens will be renewable at term. These shares are also tradeable, assignable and will act similar to a promissory note.
Although Markethive is a global company and will have mining hives and crypto exchanges worldwide, its headquarters reside in Wyoming. Notably, as published in Forbes, Wyoming is the only US state that provides a comprehensive, welcoming legal framework that enables blockchain technology, both for individuals and companies. This is good news for Markethive and its community.
Matthew D. Kaufman of Hathaway & Kunz, LLP, The Wyoming Law Firm™ that was key in the aforementioned Wyoming legislation is also the Lawyer retained by Markethive, states that “…Wyoming is one of the most blockchain-friendly states in the United States…”
What Are The Benefits Of An ILP?
One of the key benefits of ILPs is the fact they are a form of a loan. These kinds of funds are not taxed as is the case with ICO funding in some jurisdictions where it can be up to 40% as it is seen as income. Due to the crowdfunding aspect of the ILP, it is considered as a loan hence it is completely and totally compliant to the regulatory and UCC code which means it is not a security. The Incentivized Loan Program ™ is within the legal parameters (UCC) that govern the mainstream credit market. Markethive Members who decide to take part in this program are assured that their funds are well protected and cannot dissolve without a trace as seen by some ICO’s (Initial Coin Offering Projects) in the past.
ILPs are also regulatory friendly, in that they can be compliant even with the most stringent regulatory frameworks around the world when it comes to fraud and money laundering. Participants are required to submit identification to show who they are. This solves one of the biggest issues that have seen regulators criticize ICOs severely.
There is no limit to the amount you choose to loan Markethive. The best part is even the small investor can participate by way of the Entrepreneur program at $100 per month. Not only does it unlock the advertising and commerce portals, it earns you a 1/10th share of an ILP for every 12 months that you continuously contribute to the program (limited to the first 1000 Entrepreneur upgrades). That is significant as the ILP will be like a Bitcoin in that it will be able to be broken down into “satoshis” ie: 1 millionth of a coin. So 1 full ILP equals 1 million ILP “satoshis”. This enables Markethive to conduct bounties, rewards, and trading on the ILP. This simply turns the ILP into a cash cow.
SUMMARY ILP:
It's a debt instrument and not subject to tax and it compliant with the USA UCC code governing debt instruments.
The company doesn't need to create tokens that are speculative and actually have no use.
It is open to individuals around the world as loans are allowed almost everywhere.
After the principal is paid you earn interest and will share in the success of the company.
Very Easy to Participate
Sign up at Markethive.com for a FREE membership and then upgrade to the Entrepreneur level (availability is limited and can end at any given time).
After every continuous year, you will receive an additional 1/10 of a full ILP and after 10 years you can accommodate a full ILP token.
Purchase an ILP outright (priorities are given to ILP purchasers)

Throughout the hundreds of years, different societies have added to the legend and legend encompassing gemstones. These uncommon results of nature have propelled savants and spiritualists to ascribe irregular forces to these unique minerals.
The best abstract of gemstone legend is without a doubt that found in George Frederick Kunz's book The Curious Lore of Precious Stones, which was distributed in 1913. Be that as it may, Kunz was no spiritualist precious stone gazer. Or maybe he was the main gemologist of his chance and in his part as the occupant diamond master at Tiffany and Co. in New York, he molded the present day advertise for shaded stones. He was likewise instrumental in assembling a portion of the best accumulations of uncommon gemstones, including the well known J.P. Morgan-Tiffany accumulation, which is currently shown at the American Museum of Natural History.
Kunz trusted that we can take in an awesome arrangement by concentrate the courses in which restorative gemstones were utilized by various societies, and the convictions that individuals at various circumstances framed about uncommon pearls. For Kunz this investigation wasn't quite recently sociological interest, it was a method for finding out about gemstones themselves: "A considerable lot of these thoughts may appear to be sufficiently bizarre to us now, but then when we dissect them we find that they have their foundations either in some characteristic nature of the stones or else in an intuitive valuation for their emblematic noteworthiness".

#Wasser #Mineralwasser #Saft #Limonade #Margon #GösselGesundbrunnen #Kommanditgesellschaft #Heidenau #DDR #Werbung #Reklame #Ostalgie #EastGermany #Vintage #Commercial #Advertising (hier: Heidenau, Sachsen, Germany)
