Hell Bent On Revenge
People can do wrong to other people. I remember in the 90’s watching kung fu flixs where a brave warrior goes into battle to avenge their dead master. They go on an outrageous journey battling foe after foe. All because the antagonist killed the hero’s favorite person. Now the hero is hell bent on revenge for their master. I can still hear the hero’s voice saying “You killed my master.” There are…

You run the best kung-fu movie / choreography blog that I have found on Tumblr. I'm not even a fan of old kung-fu flixs but I like the sceens you find.
You’re not a fan of old school kung fu?
Just kidding. Thank you for the compliments. I really, really appreciate the love. And hey, if you have any suggestions as to what you want to see on my blog, just send them my way.

Samurai Cop
(dir. Amir Shervan, 1991)
Recognizably operating in the idioms of buddy-cop movies and kung-fu flix, this glorious Z-movie gets every beat, every cue, and every mood wildly, perfectly wrong. Movies that are this brazenly inept are even rarer than the Citizen Kanes of our world—and infinitely more watchable. My theory: there’s a flickering kinship between the truly great film and truly godawful film, a bizarre overlapping of excess, absurdity, and profundity that can only be explained by the mania of creative invention. Both kinds of film baffle but in very different ways: while watching Citizen Kane, you realize that you’re experiencing art that deepens your capacity for empathy and teaches you something serious and real about the human condition; while watching Samurai Cop, you realize that human instincts can be—and usually are—completely at odds with the idea of a shared reality or any communal standards of acceptable behavior. Yet in the mysterious alchemy of inscrutable direction, nonsensical dialogue, and clumsy acting, it’s possible to perceive—however dimly—that whatever cosmic force created our world has a sense of humor and It Is Good. And that’s really something. A must-watch.

大腳娘子 Revenge of Kung Fu Mao (1977)
My DVD copy from Far East Flix was only VHS quality so it was blurry as you can see above. I barely recognized Wang Yu as the Mayor. He did not have a very big part & even aside from the blurry picture, he was unnoticeable. However, it is a good movie and managed to make an Angelo Mao Ying fan out of me. She kicks ass! It’s quite the convoluted story, so I won’t explain it here, but Angela Mao Ying goes through a series of tragedies all the while learning kung fu from watching others practice it. She uses what she learns to get back her husband who has gone astray and exact revenge on the bad guys. She’s very convincing when watching her fight and you can’t help but cheer her on. It would be nice to see this restored.

Friday Flix: January 1992
Friday Flix: January 1992
1992 in general was a big year, it was the first year I lived on my own. I moved away from a small town in the Midwest to the bustling metropolis of Denver, Colorado. One thing the bigger city offered was tons of movie theaters! As a movie buff I loved it. The best theater I found was a small, rundown theater in the seedy part of town that showed old martial arts/Kung Fu movies! It was heaven. I…

Ugh!
Another hour of sound-sync and I should be ready on the Morgan vs. Kim fight.
THEN we livestream some editing. :|
In the meantime, Shaolin vs. Lama's opening fight scene - don't mind the bad dub, trust me, when you get to the good stuff in the battle you'll be hooked.
