tron fic recs??👀

Hi there! I have to preface this by saying I mostly read (and currently write) Sam/Tron (or Rinzler depending on the fic). While I do read a bunch of just general Tron fic, I tend to have a ship I like and stick with it.

I am really enjoying Salvage What You Can by TooManyTeeth, more so the concept then some of the ideas. (I don't ship sam and quorra), but I can get over those for the concept of Rinlzer and Tron being in the same Grid and not the Same People, and Rinlzer finding out he's the 'evil twin' as the tags put it. I'm only on chapter 14, and there have been some moments that have down right broke my heart. Lots and lots of Rinzler angst.

Want some fluff about pre movie Tron and Clu learning swear words?? No Stupid Questions by bowiesinspace is the fic series for you! It's crack (in the since that it's silly, not you know. weird). and Just an all around fun time.

While this one has a bit of of Sam/Tron in it, the pov is Alan and it's not exactly about Sam and Tron, it's about how Alan feels, seeing and being around Tron, and is very very emotional. But also my second favorite fic in the fandom. And that is Mea Culpa by 2019-2020 (EnglishLanguage).

My first favorite fic is by the same author, and that is Genesis. I don't have words for this fic honestly. It's from Sam's POV, and it's about him coming back to a completely empty Grid. There are lines in this fic that literally left me gasping for air. It's almost GEN but there's hints of the fact that there will be something more between Sam and Tron.

I'll be a bit of a silly goose, and plug my own fic here, Whatever Here (That's Left of Me) part one has no shipping besides Lora and Alan, and is about Sam fixing the Grid from the other side of the screen, having a lot of family moments with Alan, Lora and Quorra and talking with Tron. The second part will be about Sam and 'Tron' falling in love. (which knowing me and my writing, means also at least two smut scenes). So if you just want to read part one that is a-okay with me!

Lastly, in this category I am recommending every single one of Solar_Siren's fictober collections. (and one Angstpirl challenge in there as well) There is a lot of different ships in here (Mostly Tron/Yori) and a lot of Uprising stuff. A lot of REALLY good fics in here.

and now the rest of these will all be just Sam/Tron.

for T rated fics,

Sam and Tron going on a first date, and it's not going as well as Sam would like but they have a good time. Falling in Tandem by bowisinspace (I also rec all their fics. they are all very nice. The kudosbot fic??? HUh?? Why am I emotional over a little ai?? *cries*)

Late Onset Digitalism by EnglishLanguage & Lobster_Emoji is not finished, but I really enjoyed this fic, and I don't think it ended on a clif hanger? I only read it the one time though. I still think it was worth the read. another Sam fixing the Grid fics, but with some fun twists.

We Are Pilots by shirozora is a CLASSIC samtron, and just Tron in general, fic. I read this fic once a year and its just. really good. Sam goes back to the Grid to try and see if Kevin left any clues on what he meant by 'Quorra will change the world' and instead finds Tron, and a Grid in chaos. (One small note is that, even though it's rated T there is some smut towards the end.)

E rated Fics:

First two are longer fics where the smut is only a scene or two. Last one is a smutty one shot.

Someone Has To Draw First Blood by dreamlittleyo is another classic. Kevin took Sam to the Grid when he was a kid, and only luck is the reason that Sam didn't go with him that night of the coup. When Sam shows back up as an adult Tron follows him out the Grid, and then they fall in love.

One Miracle at a Time by dreamlittleyo another 'Sam goes back to the Grid' fics. I haven't read this one in a while, but I remember really liking it. I should reread it soon. Maybe I'll do it tonight.

Patience, Sam Flynn by bowiesinspace (how many of their fics have i recced haha). Short one shot, it's very nice, I love the end cause they get very snuggly.

My Kudos stats are a bit skewed because I got hit by the Kudosbot on three separate occasions. That being said, here is the list according to AO3 (I will mark which ones have false numbers)

I try to respond to all comments, though sometimes I see one while I’m busy with something else and forget to come back to it later.

I promise if I don’t respond, it’s usually because of this and by the time I remember, anxiety brain tells me it’s outside of the acceptable timeframe to post a response. I know that’s not true, but anxiety wins 99% of the time in this situation.

6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Everyone that’s read my fics knows how much I love angst. That being said, I can’t end them that way. The closest I think I’ve come to an angsty ending is the way some of the chapters end in Our Scars remind Us that the Past was Real.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I want to say either The things we do for Love or Crazy for You.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not hate. The closest I’ve gotten is a ‘negative review via bookmark comment’. I’ve learned to just ignore that particular bookmark.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I made the attempt with Task Failed Successfully. I have realized that it’s not my thing writing-wise (but I still love to read it lol)

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

Not yet, though I do have a few in my Rabbit Hutch (what I call my bunny docs).

One is pure crack insanity that is basically a 4th wall breaking parody of Dragon Age Origins with the Yugioh DM cast as the main characters.

The other is a bit more serious and is set in the World of Warcraft universe with the Yugioh DM cast as the main characters.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I had one copied and posted without my consent on another platform (it still listed me as the Author though). I filed a petition to have it removed, and while it still shows up in the search results on that platform, when you click the link it states that the fic was removed.

Not yet.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No, and at one time I wouldn’t even consider it. Now I would, but I would be selective to people whose writing styles I am very familiar with.

I’m also a huge fan of the Dark/Caste/Hateshipping (it’s complicated so I just include all the variations) I have building in my longfic. I love putting those two idiots into situations.

15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

Probably one of the ones in my Rabbit Hutch that I already know will be longfics. I want to finish my current longfic before I try to tackle any of the others.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Hmmm…I want to say being descriptive? Like, the part where you paint the scene and feelings using words…if that makes sense.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Writing from a character perspective that I don’t click with. It’s not that I don’t like the character, I just find myself having a hard time getting into their mindset. * cough* Yugi * cough *

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I have done this for a few parts of my longfic, and when I say I go to great lengths of research to make sure it’s right, I mean it. I usually write the English spelling equivalent for Arabic, and for Gaelic I tend to write some of it from a phonetic perspective (I put that in the A/N at the end if it’s phonetic). Foreign language dialogue is something I primarily use to express intimate declarations (like ‘ana bahebik’).

19. First fandom you wrote for?

I’ve only written for one fandom at this point, and that’s Yugioh DM

20. Favorite fic you've written?

Oh wow. I love all of my fics to some degree, but if I had to choose one to be my fave…probably White Lady.

The comments I’ve received on it helped boost my confidence in my writing back during a time when I was really starting to doubt my writing ability. Sometimes when I need a confidence reminder, I go back and reread it and then look over all the wonderful comments.

This is ridiculous. My most kudo'd fic ever (The Return of A.C.O.T.E.R.: The Annual Conference of the Elven Realms - incredible, but true) has currently 4582 hits and 134 kudos. I have no idea what the purpose of this bot attack is. Why would somebody boost random stories in such a ridiculous manner? And I cannot correct it; I could turn off access for folks who do not have an account on AO3, but really, that goes against my grain. I guess I can just wait for this nonsense to pass.

So, no update today. Am grumpy.

Hey, about the hidden collection fics. Some authors have been doing that lately in order to hide from the kudosbot and especially from ppl harassing them in the comments and on their other social media. So it could be that the authors did it on purpose because they didn’t want to delete, but they also didn’t want ppl to have access to their fics anymore. It’s rly sad tbh.

That sucks, but hopefully that's all it is and no one's having their works hidden that they don't want to. I'll leave the post up since I know that some people don't know that works can be hidden by collections. Thanks for telling me this!

What is a kudosbot? I think, aren't kudos tied to your current session-cookie (If you're a guest). I'm guessing that kudosbot clears it's cookies or doesn't store them then refreshes the page/session?

There's some kind of bot that gives hundreds of kudos to all the works on a given author/fandom/tag/etc. page. It's probably not a bot coded to do things with AO3. More likely, it's trying to access web forms to post spam or something.

Kudos already meant little other than being a nice thing for the author.

People who sort by kudos are a plague and yes, offline friends, I judge you and think you support bullies every time you talk about sorting by kudos. Ethically, it's a terrible practice.

Also, practically, it's useless much of the time. True, the top kudosed fics in a big fandom are usually decent in a mainstream taste way, but that's because there are so many fics like that that you can throw a rock and hit one in those fandoms.

I am going to start putting my most recent stuff here, or things I want to promote. 

A Missing Branch . . . IT IS FINISHED.

 It’s from   陈情令 | The Untamed (TV)魔道祖师 - 墨香铜臭 | Módào Zǔshī - Mòxiāng Tóngxiù  fandom, the XueXiao bodyswap roadtrip no-one asked for! Future chapters will feature Song Lan and my own take on Chinese mythology.

From Chapter 2:

Xiao Xingchen couldn’t remember when he started hearing a different voice, one which was clearly there and present in the moment, rather than a product of his fractured memories. Time had no meaning, where he was. It could have been a day, an hour, or a century since he sliced into his neck, thinking that he would join his friend, that he would find Zichen again.

Except there was nothing, just this howling void, with the sheer weight of the noise occasionally broken by the voices which taunted him, telling him this was his fault, all wrong. He was just as blind as he’d been before, though he no longer felt the weight of a body.

But then, something changed. The voice still sounded like Xue Yang, but broken, nothing like the arrogant rage he remembered. In the past, Xue Yang never pleaded. Xue Yang never begged. Xue Yang took, convinced, always, that he was right.  After so much time spent in a howling void, now he was in a stream, underwater, with the current drawing him inexorably towards . . . what? Who? He fought, and struggled, and yelled, soundlessly, but there was a tiny fraction of time, a speck of a heartbeat, when he gave in, and he was caught.

So, after spending months trying to get my favourite Bucky fic read, and failing, I decided to do it myself.

So, here is my very own, home made podfic:

Stay awake and remember my name [PODFIC] - a post-Endgame, Bucky POV story, with me doing all the voices and failing miserably. Ignore what seems like a large number of guest kudos - about 60 of those are courtesy of our neighborhood kudosbot. But the rest are mine and mine alone, and I occasionally coo over them, like Smeagol with his Precious. I would appreciate a comment, though.

Someone translated one of my fics into Russian! Belca77777 finished it earlier this month, and here it is: Stay awake and remember my name (Russian translation).

My longest fic and the one I worked hardest on, aka the behemoth: The Dragon in the North.

From Chapter 1:

Soon, all the dead men lay in pieces on the plain. Some were still on fire. The clouds had vanished and it looked like a beautiful winter’s day – cold but clear. So Jon saw everything clearly, but still found it difficult to believe his eyes, and rubbed them again. There was nothing for him to fight, anymore.

The White Walker was gone. The wights were aflame. But who had saved him? Just as he was about ready to scream the question out loud into the air, his saviour landed in front of him, moving the earth all around, sending the mud up in great spattering gouts.

It was an enormous white and gold dragon.

Ao3 users, is there anything that can be done about the kudosbot leaving fake kudos on your fics? it happened to my only fic and I’m upset because I just started writing it and the inflated kudos ratio looks so phony. I changed the accessibility so only registered users can view the fic, but I’m not wild about that solution because I want it to be accessible to everyone.

just... any tips or advice from seasoned Ao3 users about how to circumvent the kudosbot in the future? thanks :,(

That annoying moment when your sweet little indie fic gets hit by the kudosbot and goes from 16 kudos to 53 overnight, most from ‘Guest Commenters’.

I would LOVE to think that several dozen people, overnight, became interested in my silly Jedi OC and her efforts to reform the New Jedi Order through administrative oversight and ethics courses.  But uh... that’s obviously not what happened, and as a librarian, I’m offended someone tampered with the stats :/

Brain too tired to do the writey thing after work. Lots of ideas, just no energy to make them into werds.

Instead I'm going to eye-twitch self-celebrate.

I know for a fact I am going to miss it when the possible perfect 50/400 ratio appears. And this is one fic that hasn't been touched by the Kudosbot (knock on wood)

This is my most successful fic to date, and I am completely baffled because I literally just saw the stupid prompt on Pinterest and thought 'This is totally something Kaiba would say', then 2 hours and a quick glance over later I had this. No plotting. Practically no editing. Just wrote and posted the original to Tumblr. Then people seemed to really like it so it ended up on AO3 and eventually FFN as well.

In my opinion, I have at least one fic that is so much better! I keep wondering if it's the length, lack of a pairing, or the connection to my longfic that keep people from reading it? Or maybe brain is just stupid and overthinking?

Yu-Gi-Oh: Tangled Web of Fate - New chapter posted!

Chapter 54 of my longfic has been posted to FFN!

For those who haven't started reading this yet, here is the first chapter link. Please keep in mind that when I started this crazy journey EXACTLY ONE YEAR AGO TODAY, that I pantsed more of this shit than a locker-room bully.

This is also on AO3 as well under the same title and author name. AO3 get's a combined multichapter update every 2-4 weeks. The reason for this is because I originally started posting on FFN and it was my way of trying to help AO3 readers catch up. I'll admit, I didn't think about the wait they would have once they were caught up.

Longfic status update

Doubt anyone is following yet that reads my longfic, but on the off-chance, just throwing out that the first chapter of 2023 (Chapter 54) will be posted on January 13th! That's right, exactly one year from the day I first began my crazy journey!

Basic premise is that after sensing something is off with the Spirit of the Ring; Marik, Yugi, and Yami all discover they are mysteriously connected through a convoluted web of Fate. OC does make an appearance, and becomes central to the story (sorry, idea was created years ago and I finally got around to writing it).

OC/Marik (sorry peeps), background Hateshipping in later chapters (Atem/Y.Bakura), Y.Marik is Malik (and an Ace!), Ka summoning instead of card duels (bc I suck at the game), lots of magic, Worldbuilt AU (because when the story idea was 1st created I had only watched Duelist Kingdom and Battle City arcs so had to come up with the rest on my own), immortality elements and children of the gods.

Editing to add (because brain is brain) that this is considered an 'Explicit/Mature reader' fic. There is lots of profanity, alcohol/tobacco use, some more 'mature' scenes, violence and gore (in detail no less), and is riddled with TW. I try my best to cover TW at the start of each chapter, but if brain is dumb and misses one, feel free to reach out and (politely) tell me.

Basic summary is Yugi and Marik notice something is off with Bakura. They soon discover that, along with the Pharaoh, they are all mysteriously connected in a convoluted web of Fate.

This is not your usual pairing fic (sorry). It is a world and character built AU, with the only canon being Duelist Kingdom and Battle City (with a bit of Season 0 sprinkled in). Primary paring is Marik x Female OC (don't worry, his fanon preference is still mentioned and not forgotten). Later chapters have background slowburn enemies-to-lovers with Atem and Yami Bakura (call it whatever pairing name you like, I prefer Hateshipping for reasons).

No card duels because I suck at the game, but there are still plenty of game references, along with a fun chess match in Chapter 20.

[Yami Bakura slowly makes his way over to Author's desk. Strangely, there is no Author]

Y.Bakura: Weird…

[Yami Bakura shrugs]

Y.Bakura: I guess that explains the lack of sound. So odd not hearing those little keys tapping.

[Yami Bakura makes his way over to Ryou’s space. Ryou is flying around gleefully with the wings Author gave him. No Author though]

[Yami Bakura hesitantly makes his way over to where Marik and Yami Marik are. They are rehearsing their lines for an upcoming chapter. Still no Author]

[Yami Bakura grumbles as he looks in on Atem and Yugi. They are playing a friendly game of Duel Monsters. No Author in sight]

[Yami Bakura wanders over to the background characters. He ignores whatever they are doing. He starts to become concerned at the lack of Author]

[Yami Bakura looks over towards ‘Them’...the OC’s. He shudders. He quickly scans through them and heaves a sigh of relief at finding no Author among them]

Y.Bakura: Okay, this is a long shot, but has anyone seen the Author?

[Yami Bakura quickly points at the group of OC’s]

Y.Bakura: Except you guys. Please don’t say anything. Better yet, don’t even look this way. You creep me out.

[The group of unloved OC’s hang their heads and wander away]

[Yami Marik approaches]

Y.Marik: I saw Author in her room. You might want to check there.

[Yami Bakura has to look up to see Yami Marik’s face because Author made Yami Marik 6’3”]

Y.Bakura: What’s she doing in there? She’ll never finish her stupid longfic lounging around in bed all day.

Y.Marik: Drowning in anxiety and depression.

[Yami Bakura snickers and grins]

Y.Bakura: Let me guess: Someone finally told her that her longfic sucks and she should delete it? Oh! Better yet! They told her Hateshipping sucks and that she should let me kill the Pharaoh!

[Yami Marik stares boredly down at Yami Bakura]

Y.Marik: Nope. Her longfic got hit by the Kudosbot for a third time. She did the math. Out of the 126 Kudos she’s received, less than 20 are from actual readers…out of 270 hits.

[Yami Bakura is visibly confused]

Y.Bakura: So…what I’m hearing is that there are approximately 20 nutjobs that actually like what she’s writing…right?

[Yami Marik uses the god-like strength Author gave him to pick up Yami Bakura by the scruff of the neck like a kitten. He carries Yami Bakura to Author’s room, where she has become a human burrito]

[Author is wrapped in her favorite blanket and staring depressingly at her phone]

[Yami Bakura feels something in his chest that people keep referring to as his ‘Heart’. He suddenly clutches his chest]

Y.Bakura: Oh no! I’m having a ‘Feelings’ attack! Quick! Fetch me the Pharaoh so I can focus on wanting to kill him!

[Author lifts her head and spots the two Yami’s. A lightbulb appears over her head as she begins to grin in a maddening way]

[Yami Bakura notices the creepy look on Author’s face. He is suddenly more terrified than when he saw her writing smut between him and Atem]

[Author casts aside her burrito shell/blanket and rushes over to squeeze the life out of Yami Bakura]

Author: You! Why didn’t I think of it sooner!?! You can get rid of the Kudosbot!

[Yami Bakura is somewhat worried]

Y.Bakura: Uh…Author? You’re doing that thing where you’re spewing out nonsense.

[Author grabs Yami Bakura by the face and appears very serious all of the sudden]

Author: Murder Fluff, I have a very important mission for you. I need you to track down a rogue webcrawler called Kudosbot…and I need you to KILL IT.

[Yami Bakura stares blankly]

Y.Bakura: Webcrawler? You mean like Spider-Man?

[Author scowls in irritation]

Author: Not that kind of web you moron! I’m referring to the internet! I need you to travel through the internet and find this thing and kill it!

[Yami Bakura is a bit worried for Author’s mental state]

Y.Bakura: I like the line of thinking you’ve obviously got going here, but there’s one problem: I don’t have the ability to actually travel through digital space and kill rogue programs.

[Author melts into an amorphous blob of anxiety and depression]

Author: Then there’s no hope…and it means my stats will probably keep getting messed up…and I know I’m writing for ‘Me’, but sometimes I just want validation…

[Yami Bakura groans as he feels to the compulsion to be ‘Nice’]

Y.Bakura: Your story isn’t…‘bad’…

[Yami Bakura tries not to vomit]

Author: It’s not ‘good’ either…

[Yami Bakura is irritated]

Y.Bakura: Screw what the internet thinks! If they think they can do better, then THEY should try writing! They have no idea the level of insanity it takes to do what you do! I bet THEY wouldn’t be able to put me and the Pharaoh in the same room and make it where I somehow want to kiss him instead of kill him!

[Yami Bakura stops to take a quick breath before continuing]

Y.Bakura: Do you think THEY could think of making an entity created from pure hatred into a 6 foot 3 asexual that is the equivalent of the Cowardly Lion with massive amounts of PTSD? Or make me into someone that can be ‘nice’? Or think up that mentally unstable and bipolar OC that just wants to be loved?

[Author blob is on the verge of tears]

Author: I know…everything I come up with sucks…

[Yami Bakura glances boredly at the reader for a moment, then returns his focus to Author]

Y.Bakura: If everything you write ‘sucks’, then why is there some weirdo reading this?

Author:...macabre curiosity?...masochism?...they clicked on the wrong link?

[Yami Bakura throws his hands up in exasperation]

Y.Bakura: I give up! I tried!

[Yami Bakura storms off to go back to creating vivid crayon depictions of him killing Atem]

[Yami Marik stares down at Author and smiles]

Y.Marik: I like your stuff. You’ve given me some great lines. I really liked the ‘Burgers are salad’ bit. I agree with the argument that if it has lettuce, it counts as a salad.

[Yami Bakura sitting in random space, giddily coloring with his red crayon while humming the tune of ‘Jingle Bells’]

Author: Whatcha doin?

[Yami Bakura continues his scribbling without looking up]

Y.Bakura: Letting the fat man know what I want for this ‘Kiss Miss’ thing. I’m all for hot chicks, but I prefer a new knife…and maybe some more red crayons. Seriously, just order a warehouse full next time. I go through a lot.

[Author tries not to laugh]

Author: Noted. So…besides a new knife and crayons, anything else you want? Something maybe someone other than Santa Clause can get for you?

[Yami Bakura lifts his head up and give the Author a dead-pan stare]

Y.Bakura: Hate to break it to ya, but his name is ‘Satan Claws’. No wonder you can’t write anything good. You obviously have that thing where the words are jumbled up.

Author: You mean dyslexia?

Y.Bakura: I’m pretty sure that’s the name of the device you shout at to Google things.

Author: No, that’s Alexa.

Y.Bakura: I guess you can hire someone named Alexa to do that for you…but you gotta make money off your work first. Spoiler alert: You can’t make money with fanfiction. I’m tellin ya, my stuff is Pulitzer material. No copyrights or trademarks, so you can earn all the coin from the publications.

[Author nods her head while still attempting to keep a straight face]

Author: You know what, I’ll just throw some candy in a stocking. I don’t know anyone that would pass up free candy.

[Yami Bakura is visibly confused]

Y.Bakura: But if you are the one putting the candy in the socks…then does that mean there’s no Satan Claws? Who’s gonna make sure all those people die from beatings?

[Author’s turn to be visibly confused]

Author: What???

Y.Bakura: You know…all the people eat a bunch of candy from a sock and end up with the curse of ‘die from beatings’.

Author: You mean diabetes?

Y.Bakura: That’s what I just said. Oh. My. Gods. You’re deaf too?! CAN. YOU. HEAR. ME? I. ONLY. KNOW. ONE. SIGN.

[Yami Bakura proceeds to flip-off Author]

[A tear escapes from the corner of Author’s eye as she still attempts to not fall on the floor in laughter]

Author: Don’t worry. There’s still a ‘Satan Claws’. I was just going to throw some non-cursed candy in your stocking. I’ll leave the cursed stuff for the fat man. You’ll know which is his by all the glitter. And I think I’ll give you your gift early.

[Author hands a copy of the future chapters she’s been working on]

[Yami Bakura quickly glances through them, a smile slowly forming across his face]

Y.Bakura: Murder? I get the opportunity to kill someone?!?!

Author: You’re welcome.

[Yami Bakura jumps up and enthusiastically hugs the Author]

Y.Bakura: It’s a Kiss Miss miracle!

Author: Riiight…by the way, it’s pronounced Christmas.

Y.Bakura: Author, since you were so nice, I’ll ask Satan Claws to give you some writing talent. Maybe some hearing aids too, so you can hear things properly. Maybe that’s your problem? You hear everything wrong so you don’t know how it should be spelled, which in turn makes it so much harder for you to be a good writer.

[Author shakes her head in amusement and walks away]

[Yami Bakura sits back down and starts scribbling on a new sheet of paper]

Dear Satan Claws,

First off, I am a huge fan of your work. Can I ask a favor from one great killer to another? Can you bring Author one of those puppies for disabled people? I’m sure you can find one that can type. Don’t worry if it can’t spell, Author can’t spell either. Spell check does most of the work in that area. It just needs some talent when it comes to writing plots. I’ve tried to help, but Author is just too nice of a person and doesn’t want to steal credit from someone as amazing as me.
