see I can’t necessarily say “stick through exaid it’ll get better” because that is a very subjective statement but I will say that the first 5 episodes feels like 10 episodes and that the pacing does improve and also that nico exists and is the perfect character. keystone character. and there’s actually a lot I like about certain developments, there’s just… a lot overall. anyway with zero one I will say there were people that enjoyed the final stretch. I didn’t but some people did.

talking about kamen rider in person just hits different I was chilling with air & alicia and we started talking abt zero one & I leapt off the couch and yelled I HAVE OPINIONS ABOUT HOW ARUTO’S CHARACTER ARC SHOULD’VE BEEN HANDLED

In the end I think the biggest impedements to zero one being as good as it could’ve been have been

1) emotional isolation of the main characters (ARUTO NEVER LEARNED FUWA’S SENSE OF HUMOR??? THAT WAS WHAT I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO SINCE EPISODE 1???????) (the creation of AI as a way to like. get emotional resolution without any of the characters. talking to each other.)

2) death/identity as a revolving door; naki especially having to have a reset their SUPER STRONG character development and then having it over again was unfortunate, and jin’s deathcount is pretty excessive

3) failure to fully commitment to self-determination; this kind of ties into humagear as analogous to a labor force, and there are some strong moments like the mangaka supporting gk’s independent debut, but there really needed to be the obvious. humagear develops interest completely separate from what they were built for

4) yo. that ending. honestly I would’ve been fine with it if it was like, an amnesia/corrupted memory situation, but that’s a whole other person so it’s very uncomfy. and it’s such an easy fix, writing-wise, yall literally brought jin back like three times, and like you even have the zero two should-have-been-a-bodysharing-form (also while we’re at it that timeloop ep has GOT to go) just say there’s recoverable data from that and boom there’s your justification for izu actually being back and not just. trying to create a new person and turn them into your dead best friend. that’s no good.

also the gai thing. like he’s not an antagonist who can bounce back to goofy character. I wanna say if he’s gonna have that role he needs to start out as more ineffetual team rocket type of villain, like the vice president squad, rather than uhhhhhh manipulating a crisis to sell weapons to civilians in order to generate profit. or there needs to be a longer arc and a lot of inentiontion behind it. like... gentoku from build is very, spoilers, unlikely candidate for redeption but even beyond the extenuating circumstance of mars gas there’s still accountability and consequence and him actually having remorse that isn’t tied to. a robot dog. I liked gai’s role in yua’s arc. he exists to treat her as a tool and then she breaks free and punches him in the face.
