Rewatching build, I love how much of it is one character going ‘I am genuinely worried about you but I know if you knew that I was trying to protect you, you’d throw yourself into danger anyway, so I’m going to pretend I’m being an arrogant jerk and keeping you from getting stronger for the sake of my own ego’ and another character going ‘I know you’re putting up a front, dumbass, and I know you’re trying to deal with everything by yourself, and I know you’re lying to protect me, but I’m going to do the exact same thing and do whatever you’re trying to protect me from so I can get stronger but I’m also going to pretend it’s for my ego. idiot.’

I was thinking ‘huh, geed’s soundtrack really reminds me of build, wonder if it’s by the same composer’ & it is! I’m a fan of kawai kenji’s work

Kazumin in hazard arc really shows off his cool sides. just a very successful vibe of pretends not to care, cares a lot, is fine setting himself up as The Villain but still offers unambiguous words of comfort to the people he’s supposed to fight. It’s a pretty interesting blend of being more grounded than sento’s idealism, but still retaining a lot of compassion (however it’s expressed). It’s just interesting how controlled he’s portrayed without it ever diminishing how much everything affects him. Also while he has his catchphrase what I really like is the dialogue quirk of shouting out that set of three nouns because it’s really… hot-blooded! Describing it sounds dumb as hell & I can’t look up quotes but when he’s shouting stuff like passion! heat! fury! I can’t help but get hyped by his energy

we’re rewatching build and we’ve gotten to hazard arc which is THE most build per build. it’s good drama… “he cares about you” “I know, so much it hurts” and the part where sento goes “it has to be you, we made build together” it’s just SO tasty. I also feel like I notice a lot of really good silences. they do just let characters sit without a monologue. also there are so many scenes where you can point at the screen and go. Dishonest Men. the MOST build per build.

thinking about how gentoku got a redemption arc and went full Like That because the actor’s daughter was scared of his character and he was like. can I be a goofy character now I don’t want my daughter to be scared of me

the beginning of build throws a lot at you and dunks you straight into the heated drama between men, but I find it less overwhelming than the beginning of exaid. I also feel like mid-build just absolutely nails The Vibes… hazard/proxy battle arc is coming up soon and I’m excited to rewatch it ^^ Please Watch Build You Get So Many Vibes

also the gai thing. like he’s not an antagonist who can bounce back to goofy character. I wanna say if he’s gonna have that role he needs to start out as more ineffetual team rocket type of villain, like the vice president squad, rather than uhhhhhh manipulating a crisis to sell weapons to civilians in order to generate profit. or there needs to be a longer arc and a lot of inentiontion behind it. like... gentoku from build is very, spoilers, unlikely candidate for redeption but even beyond the extenuating circumstance of mars gas there’s still accountability and consequence and him actually having remorse that isn’t tied to. a robot dog. I liked gai’s role in yua’s arc. he exists to treat her as a tool and then she breaks free and punches him in the face.

I wish I had a good way to describe these kinda stories because like... the first thing that comes to mind is ‘manly’ or ‘hardboiled TAIKO DRUM GAME HAS BE THE ONE KAMEN RIDER BUILD FUCK YEAH

I know there’s some interview from a a director or writer or someone - honestly it might’ve been muto for build? yeah I just looked it up it was for build and ok it was talking about heated drama between men but I always remembered it as. hot drama between men. which is hilarious but you know what that’s what I’m after all the time, It’s That Heated Drama. I don’t care about action or politics or worldbuilding or any of that, all of it is just a vehicle to get me where I want: The Drama

build was the first kr I followed as it came out and zero one is the second one... feeling some kinda way about kamen rider.... love folks in suits kicking each other’s ass and fighting for freedom and to protect people..... yea
